Rafael: I Am A True Red

Rafael da Silva was voted our player of the month on the official website, thanks to some cracking displays in September, as well as our opening goal in the 2-1 win at Anfield.

Rafael has been at the club for seven years now and he believes he’s a proper red.

“I’m very happy to win this award, especially since I found out that defenders never win it,” Rafael laughed. “It’s just an honour to win, especially to beat Paul Scholes, and I’m very proud. It was a good month for me, very consistent, playing many games and of course scoring the goal at Liverpool was the high point for me. I think scoring at Anfield probably helped a lot with the voting! It’s great to win something voted by the fans. The supporters have helped me since I came here and I’m very happy with that. Since I arrived here, the fans have been amazing, singing songs for me or stopping me and telling me I’m a true Red! I’ve been coming here to training since I was 15 years old, a long time, so I feel like I am a true Red.”

Never been any fuss from this lad just like Tom C being patient, never any bitching about wages game time etc, signed his new contract with no issues although there were rumors Rent boys and i think Barca was sniffing around.
On the field plays with passion and heart, getting better every game, what isn’t there to love about him in a time when most young lads just want first team football and big money before proving fuck all,Rafa is a breath of fresh air

You sure are Rafael! I’m really hoping that Fabio comes back a more consistent player and we’ll have the twins bombing down either flank.

An outstanding attacking fullback now gradually working towards being a complete one. His talents have never been doubted for me but I think the way the brazil national team have mistreated him (the weak mano menezes has left him out again despite alves being out) may see united hopefully benefit as he’s playing like a guy trying to prove a point.

He has qualities but had a tendency to dive in due to an over-eagerness to win the ball and inexperience. His positioning also needed to improve, all the games he has gathered has certainly aided him now. He looks powerful and solid as a defender, his concentration has got better and his contributions going forward are impressive. He looks powerful and adds that to his swashbuckling style. The flair is there but he is a battler as wel, which gives the right blend. For me, he’s built for united and the fact we brought him in at a younger age means he’s fully imbeded to the club, exactly why fergie picks them up and integrates them into the united way early.

Look, he’s still not fully experienced but his potential is gradually getting fufilled. He needed regular games and is getting that now, hopefully it continues to bear fruit for united. Can I also add the fact his twin bro is on loan at QPR at the moment, means he’s even more focused. Fabio I hope will eventually fulfill that potential, needs to recover quickly from the injury….

Rafa you beauty! 2 goals already and his defending has improved no end.

…Just as well we didn’t sell this Brazilian after his Bayern red card aye? Now all we need is a bit more luck for Fabio at QPR. They are both class imo.

  10. Proverb says:

Yeah you are, what a daft statement lol

  11. The One says:

You definitely are, love you kid!!

  12. NBI Red Onion says:

Roaring Red Rafael – we need a new song for him.

Unfortnately, Fabio not getting much further, in some ways I hope Rednapp takes over QPR, he could help develop him.

Finally this guy gets his due respect. For me he’s always had immense potential and had shown some fantastic displays in his tender years too. Absolutely love this guy. Onwards n upwards Rafa!!

  16. Daniel says:

I think the seven years is inaccurate. He and Fabio arrived in 2008, did they not? Great player in the making. His energy is his main asset, but he’s got bags of skill too and keeps improving defensively as well!

  17. Adam says:

Definitely happiest with his defensive improvements..hope that continues..

  18. Quiza says:

    @daniel
