Rafael: Maybe I’ll Become A Midfielder

Rafael was thrown in to the centre of midfield alongside Ji-Sung Park for Manchester United’s 3-2 defeat against Blackburn.

Whilst he admits he is far happier in his usual position, he hasn’t ruled out making a move to the midfield when he’s older, although was surprised when Ferguson told him that’s where he was playing against Blackburn.

“A little bit, yeah,” he said replied when asked about his surprise. “But I’ve played there before for United so I knew what was expected of me. When the manager told me I was playing in midfield I wasn’t worried. I just thought, “I’m ready, let’s play!”. I’m a professional footballer so I’ll play anywhere. I probably did a little better when I moved back to my normal position, but I felt comfortable in midfield and would do it again. Maybe I’ll move there for good when I get a bit older. You never know! After all, look at Ryan Giggs and the way he has changed over the years. He’s even played at left back once or twice.”

  1. Costas says:

Definitely didn’t work on that day, but it didn’t help Rafa that his partner was equally uncomfortable at playing in a 2 man midfield. Who knows? He might end up as a CM when he adds more composure in his game.

  2. ricky says:

rafael at right back with fabio in right wing, that would be crazy, nightmare for opposition and ref

  3. Little Red Ant says:

I like it when players say they could play elsewhere on the park. I know I have said this before but I think Patrice would make a good left sided midfielder – maybe score a few goals as well

  4. ntinos999 says:

Rafael has the technical ability to become a real good MIDDIE, however the psychological pressures that will come of the opponent’s MIDDIES and his Brazilian ‘I’m cool look at me’ attitude will not go far.

United’s youth team have also got a huge away game on the horizon – this evening in fact, as the FA Youth Cup defence continues away to Swansea. You can watch it live on MUTV from 18:30

  6. Robbo says:

    Little Red Ant

Actually that is where he started his football – as a left MF.

  7. Giles Oakley says:

More to endear us to Rafael, such a great attitude. Actually when he and Fabio played on the wings against Arsenal in the FA Cup a year or so ago they were fantastic. They’re natural wide players, maybe not experienced enough for central midfield yet.

On Little Red Ant’s point about Patrice Evra, I think he should be tried at right back. I think the new but similar challenge would maybe help freshen up his game, and maybe eradicate the type of positional error that led to the Liverpool defeat. Many of United’s best full backs have played on both the right and left, including Tony Dunne, Dennis Irwin and Shay Brennan. A switch can be as good as a rest.

  8. Jeet says:

Question for all – do you think Fabio at his best is better than Evra’s current form?

  9. Costas says:

    @Jeet

Hard to tell pal. Personally I don’t know what constitutes Fabio’s best at left back. He had some good games at right back last season, but I haven’t seen enough of him at left back to judge. However, Evra never gets injured and that works in his favor when Fergie decides the line ups.

  10. WillieRedNut says:

RIP Angelo Dundee. Ali’s former trainer.

  11. Jeet says:

@Costas: True that – I thought Fabio was brilliant at RB in the CL final last year. But, I can’t recall a single instance when he let us down at LB either. Seems the steadier of the twins. Love Evra, and I recall seeing him run tirelessly for Monaco and wishing United got him (Fergie and I think alike LOL). But I’m a bit tired of seeing him tucked into the CB’s position when he should be blocking the winger on the left. I do believe he needs a rest. To his credit, he’s never injured and must be unbelievably tough. But these days he does look a trifle jaded. But then Fabio’s injured :(

  12. ricky says:

evras experience gives him the nod over fabio. fabios performance is much better, it was evident against swansea where evra struggled against dyer, fabio came on and handled well and made some crucial yet rash tackles. prob with the twins are they dont know how to back out of challenges hence they get injured.
evra plays cos you cant drop your most fit player and captain.

  13. Saad says:

I’d like to echo Jeet’s thoughts. There’s no doubt that Evra’s the friggin’ Energizer bunny but the down-side to that kind of high-octane football is that the player suddenly breaks down without any prior warning. That’s bad for the athlete and bad for his team.

  14. Jeet says:

@ricky: interesting point about experience. Not much good if we leak goals because of the “experience”, now is it :) ? And if you observe you will notice that it’s always the same error – Evra positioned too much on the inside. I think there can only be two reasons, apart from the fact that Fabio’s injured:
    1. The coaches have actually asked Evra to tuck in and protect the inexperienced CBs. I could be doing him an injustice here – I’ll try and notice how many attacks he DOES block because of that strange positioning. The ones where the goals fly in are obvious, but there may be many where it goes to plan and are unnoticed.
    2. Evra offers better attacking options down the left.

  15. zelh says:

I hope we’ll see 10 years bombing down the right before he becomes a midfielder :)

  16. Costas says:

    @Jeet

One thing’s for sure. Evra hasn’t been rested as often as he should and it’s starting to tell. Liverpool’s 2nd goal for example. Personally I would have gone with Fabio against Stoke just for that cause. But all in all, Evra has to be challenged for his spot. More than he is at the moment.

I hope we keep Fryers around by the way. He might be the key in increasing competition in that slot.

  17. Saad says:

    Costas

Would you rather have Fryers or De Laet? I always thought Ritchie’s a better defender, tough as steel and ruthless in the tackle. Unfortunately, neither are any good going forward, not like Evra who seems to be getting better with age (the going forward part, that is).

  18. TheLeftBank says:

    I love Fabio’s attitude.

He seems to have his head screwed on right. He thinks about the team before himself but as an individual thinks about how to get better…for the team.

    This is the United way.

Shame such a simple truth was lost on Ravel Morrison.

I hope Fabio finds his best position as time goes on. I for one would love to see the Da Silva twins rampaging down one wing together as defender and midfielder. It would scare the shit off defenders and man marking them!

  19. TheLeftBank says:

Ooops I mean Rafael not Fabio….

See how easy it is to mix the boys from Brazil up? :)

  20. Costas says:

    @Saad

Probably De Laet at the moment. He’s been aroundd longer than Fryers and I believe he can play at right back and centre back. I remember watching him in the friendly against Valencia in 2009 and I was very impressed. Seemed ok in his forward runs as well. However, that was close to 3 years ago and he still hasn’t been able to nail down a place in our squad. I hope he’s still on track because between him, Fryers and the twins, our full back berths will have a number of options for years to come.

  21. Saad says:

    Costas

Right now, as long as Evra is hot, there’s not gonna be a prayer for anybody nailing down that LB spot unless we hire Maldini’s clone.

  22. Little Red Ant says:

Thanks for the education Robbo, I didn’t realise

  23. Sandeep1878 says:

    Costas,

    what up pal..

I feel we would need pace for Chelsea game..

The players who make those bursting runs, would be glad if we have rafael, Jonesy, Smalling and Rooney..

in the last 2 games, except for 10 minutes, i m really happy with the way we have bossed the midfield..injuries aside..

We need to be sharp with our traditional counter attacking style at Stamford bridge..

Our last few results against them should give us confidence of a win over there..

    still a tough game..

and what i think Pat and Carrick wont be rested…but the lads have been playing non stop…

  24. Sandeep1878 says:

Very sad story for Egyptians and Egyptian football..

  25. redevil_83 says:

we might not know for sure, but i honestly feel the gaffer’s looking for a new LB. not to replace evra this summer, but eventually. don’t think he’s sold on fabio, fryers or de laet as long term LBs.

that said, it happens every year around spring time. evra looks like a jaded f-cked stray cat. give him some rest ffs

  26. Costas says:

    @Sandeep

Hi mate. Yeah. Evra has started the last 13 games. Carrick and Antonio have started the last 11. It’s a good thing we have a 5 day break after this Sunday.

I agree that we will need to him them with speed. That’s what Arsenal did. Fergie’s selections on Tuesday made me wonder if he’s planning to start Carrick and Giggs at SB. It’s a midfield duo that helped us beat Chelsea 3 times last season. And Valencia will definitely start on the right. So the question is whether Park will play (another player that played in midfield in those 3 wins) or if the returning Nani will start.

i’m not sure if even wazza will start. coming back from this lay off it won’t be surprising to see both wazza and nani come off the bench. and park retains his place for previous effective showings against the rent boys

  30. Sandeep1878 says:

    Costas,

Pal, i would think that Giggsy will surely start this game, he has been immense in the last 4 games against the chavs..

Fact that he dint play a minute against Stoke points at him starting the game..

I dont know, Rafael might as well start the game on left wing for this game :)

Even Park has been brilliant against chelsea..

I hope Berba starts but i have a feeling that Danny and Chicha will start..

  32. wayne says:

Park starts in a lot of big games think he’ll start the game,he very rarely disappoints, runs all day, great at breaking up attacks and making a overall pest of himself, good link up play, him and Giggs works well together and often pops up with big goals
imo Park is the most underrated player Utd has, most teams would want him.

  33. samuel - united WE stand says:

How is he not sold on fabio or fryers?. Fergie mentions them in his praises for up and coming players and although they aren’t fully experienced yet/Still need improving but there is no doubt that they’re both talented. Hopefully they’ll take chances when given to become regulars.

He has them both at the club so why would he go out and spend on another overrated player?. I think people just enjoy the thought of spending for the sake of spending.

  34. Sandeep1878 says:

Obertan , Gibson , Frazier Campbell all scored for their respective clubs. UNITED won , City lose . Great Mid week for US then :)

    everything all right pal?

where the hell have you been?

take care my friend and come back soon!!!

  37. redevil_83 says:

    @samuel – united WE stand

that’s false impression you have. i have never liked united overpaying in the first place so i’m definitely not one of enjoys spending for the sake of spending. if that was the case i’d be a bitters fan god forbid. what i shared was my perspective — fryers is holding out for a bigger contract (a la morrison) without proper justification, and fabio is too offered injured. evra while still great LB has been found wanting of late but i put that down to faituge. he is 30 now, and looking at all other options the boss might be looking for a new LB. and NOT an established, known LB…that’s seldom the case when the gaffer makes purchases. probably a young upcoming evra type player

  38. Booch says:

Hi everyone Rafel can play anywhere 4 united ok Anyone Agree or disagree

  39. samuel - united WE stand says:

redevil_83 – regarding fryers, i see that as the press (usually the daily fail) being up to their usual old tricks.

The press will do anything to destabilise united. I mean, did they know anything about zeki fryers before he made his debut? probably not. They noticed his potential and the boss being impressed with him and suddenly, he’s demanding for a huge salary in a new contract.

Zeki has barely made a name for himself yet, i doubt he’d want to hold the club to ransom. Anyone can see how ruthless Fergie can be regardless of talent when he thinks young players don’t possess the right attitudes (check ravel morrison).

fryers has only made his debut. he looks like a player with the right attitude who is willing to buckle down, work hard and then reap the rewards eventually. I think he has the potential to replace evra. He still needs to gain experience and he’s still developing but i don’t see any reason why united need to bring anyone in. Evra performance standards defensively has waned this season but he still remains a top class player. has a few more oil left in him to keep running that machine until either fabio (needs to stay fit) and fryers take over.

I’m sure the club are always out there scouting the best players but in world football right now, the best full backs are getting extinct day by day. United would be extremely fortunate to find a left back that can put in a shift as much as evra does. personally, i feel united should keep working on the two young left backs, turning potential into gold takes perseverance (obviously only applies when these players are good enough/have the right attitudes).

  40. Sparkz says:

I could be wrong, but in that game against Arsenal where we started Rafael and Fabio on the wings……….in the second half, didn’t Rafael move to central midfield? Valencia came on for somebody and took the wide right position…and Rafael played in the middle of the park, bombed forward nicely.

Also, I’m not buying this Fryers stuff, I think its the papers trying to cause trouble like they did with Welbeck.

  41. redevil_83 says:

well said. i completely agree and hope to see fryers or fabio tie that place down long term. i voiced my concern because i haven’t seen fryers offer much attacking potential down the left that a united fullback usually does (maybe i’m mistaken and despite his bigger size he can be as dazzling as smalling can be at RB). and fabio looks brittle like his brother rafael to sustain a full season in the tough english league.

  42. kanchelskis says:

Haha – Frederic Veseli being a top lad on Twitter again:

Hello tweeps! Just arrived home after a hard day at training! People, staff, players are great!! Feels good to be Here!! #MUFC

I’d like to thanx every single #MUFC fan for welcoming me to such great club!! #thanxforthesupport!

  43. LoneStarRed says:

Great attitude. That’s the fabric that sets up apart. Rafael’s got it in spades. If you noticed in Morrisson’s comments it was mostly about him and what he is instead of how to best help the team win.

  44. King Eric says:

Samuel and Sparkz – Spot on. Every fucking day its another young player who “won’t commit” to United or “holding our for more money” . That shite then gets spoken as fact by cunts like fat Darren Gough . Bore off.

  45. parryheid says:

    red_devil83

Fabio brittle? He can quickly match and even surpass Evra on the left side if like Evra he doesn’t tackle he then wont get any injuries either.Lot of people don’t seem to notice that,I still like Evra though.

  46. Costas says:

    @kanchelskis

Quite a long shot there. I think I’d pick an easier game to bring Ashley back in the side. I am curious about his status at the moment. It’s hard not to play Valencia and Nani.

  47. kanchelskis says:

    @Costas

Yeh, Young’s been out for so long it’s hard to imagine him starting.

I’m with you on Tony and Nani. Normally I’d say Park should play in a match this big. But Chelsea in their current state are there for the taking – especially with Cole suspended.

70 mins: Young to come on for Nani if we still need a goal. Park to come on for Nani if we need to see the game out.

  48. FletchTHEMAN says:

Love Rafael’s attitude, no fuss. So different from some foreign players who seem so “High Maintenance” (eg Pogba).

Somewhat related: Anyone else concerned about the new club policy not to renegotiate contracts until the last year? I think it is backfiring, if at no other level than the press jumps on every single case and makes it sound like we don’t know what we are doing. Morison, Ravel last week. Pogba Friars this week. Danny Welbeck a couple weeks back. Just alot of bad press for very little gain.

Here is a link questioning our commitment to Friars:

    Debate on Twitter:

Who deserves the No 7 shirt once Michael Owen passes it on.

    1. Nani
    2. Valencia
    3. Tom Cleverley

Valencia seems to be the early favorit, but I think it has to be Nani (to retain and improve him) or more naturally Tom Cleverly. No7ForCleverley

  53. Sparkz says:

Not sure how fit Nani will be, does anyone even know if he’s back in training yet?

@Fletch – Yeah in a way it does seem a bit worrying that we leave it so late. Alternatively, it could be down to certain players stalling over accepting terms….which means things get dragged down to the last 6 months or so.
And are you sure this is a new club policy? Let’s not forget that Smalling, Hernandez etc signed new deals when they had years left on them.

  54. Mikekelly12 says:

Funny you should mention him. Just been to a head of PE meeting and was speaking to his teacher about him. Think he’s captain tonight at Swansea. He spoke to him a month or so ago at an event the school put on and had a bit of a heart to heart with him!

  58. Saad says:

    @MikeKelly12

  60. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@MikeKelly – Please do tell about Ravel.

Said on an a earlier thread days ago that Ravel leaving makes me lose faith in our youth system, if local lads who grow up supporting the team are more interested in cash than playing for the club then whats the point in being excited about the prospects coming through.

Which leads me to Fryers? 1st Pogba, then Morrison now him. Not sure how much truth is to the rumours but leaves me uneasy at a time where we’ve ridiculed class players on here because we’ve put faith in the youth. Seems to me no difference between the two anymore. Both want lots more money.

When Kiko, Welbeck and Cleverly all came through along with the twins there were no transfer rumours going around about them. I’m hoping its just the press trying to unsettle us. However seems too coincidental of young players agents holding us to ransom after the actions of Ronney doing the same last year. This was the exact thing a lot of fans who jumped on Rooneys back were afraid of and I believe its coming true.

  61. NotoriousRedDevil says:

  66. FletchTHEMAN says:

@Sparkz Cheers mate. RE the policy to only renegotiate contracts in the last 12 months. It is a “New” policy in that the club announced it as such. Maybe in 2010 or so. Maybe Scott or AndersRed could confirm this. There are exceptions, in cases where performance clearly merits a change. Vidic becoming club captain is a good example. Smalling and Hernandez were down to phenomenal first years where they clearly made first team contributions out of all proportion to expectations. Quite right in my view, ofcourse.

@Saad. Cheers son. I like Chicharito just fine. But #7 shirt has to be on a midfielder for me. Also on someone who is in the side all the time. Chicharito asked for 14 which is his lucky number. I am fine with that unless his minutes expand exponentially. Chicharito would be a better #9 if Berba moves on. Call me a traditionalist :)

Yeah, I’m all for tradition. I would’ve voted for Cleverley but, don’t shoot me for saying this, I dont think Tom’s “awesome” enough to wear the Seven.

Nani’s got the flair but he’s not a grand enough character for the Seven. The Seven must be larger than life. That’s me being the traditionalist.

This might piss a few people off but, in my opinion, the perfect candidate for the Seven just left for friggin’ West Ham…that is, of course, if ever matured enough to break into the United First Team.

Have to disagree on that price tag, Robbo would have been priceless today. Torres was sold for 50m, so how much would a modern day Robbo be worth? 100, 200 or even 300m? I say that without any obvious bias of course! haha

Which part of the Middle East did you spend time in? My guess would be one of the Gulf states?

  78. Saad says:

    Cedars

I should’ve qualified my comment. I meant 50m quid BEFORE the advent of the Abramovich, the Abu Dhabis and the Qataris.

With Torres going for 50m and Carroll going for 35m (almost crushed my keyboard beneath my fingers), there’s no sense in football economics anymore.

  82. CedarsDevil says:

    Saad

I have bored people far too often here with my love for Robbo, not just about the goals, the drive and determination, not just about spilling blood and guts for the cause, not just about leadership qualities that we may never see again. He WAS the heart and soul of our team. a leader of men.

  92. Saad says:

    @Pratyush

Yes, that’s what i meant when i listed those players. Before Ronaldo, Becks. Before Becks, Cantona. Before Cantona, Robbo.

  93. Pratyush says:

    Thanks Willie

I have a feeling we’ll do the same with Pogba, maybe even to make him feel special.

  94. CedarsDevil says:

    Sparkz – Cheers!

    ex BBC

Liverpool’s allocation for their Premier League match at Manchester United on 11 February has been reduced by almost a thousand, to 2,100.

  96. Saad says:

    Should’ve been reduced to 1800.

  97. smartalex says:

A United spokesman said: “The safety of all fans is paramount and a detailed risk assessment of the match carried out by us and agreed by their Safety Advisory Group which includes Greater Manchester Police and Trafford Council has resulted in Liverpool receiving a reduced allocation for this specific game. This was considered necessary to allow for additional stewarding and segregation plans.”

  98. Saad says:

First let Pogba do something special then he’ll have earned the Seven. The kid is still wet behind the ears.

  99. King Eric says:

Cedars – Happy Birrthday my friend. Have a great one. Robbo is shite. As I said other week THE most over rated player ever to play for United!!!!!

  100. smartalex says:

Should have been reduced to one – Suarez

    Alone

  101. Saad says:

I’m really hoping that OT will really stick it to the Cesspool fans (minus anything about Hillsborough or Heysel). Let there ears bleed that night.

  102. CedarsDevil says:

To be fair, the scousers are very vocal away from home, probably a close second to our away fans in terms of noise generated.

    King Eric

Cheers pal, ya I remember that one, now piss off! hahaha

  103. Saad says:

I didnt know there were kennels in the south east corner.

  105. lordrt says:

Rafael as a right winger? Could do, only he’s got to be more physical, and for that he has to hit the gym more often.

  106. smartalex says:

In October United’s allocation for the reverse fixture was reduced from 3,015 to 1,965 after safety chiefs, in conjunction with Liverpool City Council, ruled the move necessary.

  107. Dillan says:

Yeah I think our future number 7 would’ve been Morrison.Neymar would be that number 7…A guy can dream can’t he? But honestly I do think Petrucci could become that number 7 we all want,no need to go look outside of the club

  108. Saad says:

Neymar’s a circus. Why would we want that prima donna in our clubhouse?

  109. WillieRedNut says:

About fucking time United returned the favour. Away fans at OT stand up throughout the game. Seemed to me, that our fans were the only ones getting punished for this. A bit of balance at last!

  110. dazbomber says:

    This ref is clueless .

Oh sorry I have jumped the gun I didn’t mean any of the above….whoops

  116. smartalex says:

    Two perhaps? A hapless mishap.

  117. Red Nation says:

Liverpools away ticket allocation has been cut LOL

  133. Saad says:

Keep an eye out for Blackett, Daehli and Van Velzen.

    Potential stars, those lads!

  134. Shebangsthedrums says:

Couple of quick fire goals for the youth team, good composed finish from Barmby.

  145. smartalex says:

    … from earlier today:

Frederic Veseli’s agent Adam Bouskouchi told Press Association:
“Freddie spoke with several clubs, here and abroad. He wants to be a top player in England and when Sir Alex spoke to him, it made such an impression. He is a difficult man to say no to and his track record was enough for Freddie to feel he was making the right choice to join United.”

He added: “First his challenge is to establish himself at reserve level, then push on for the first team. The Swiss Federation have also been in touch and they are keeping track of him. However, they have said Freddie must at least be involved at reserve-team level before they could consider him for the Olympics.”

    Ready Freddie Go!

  146. smartalex says:

    Fred? Is that you?

  147. Shawn says:

Pretty soft I wouldnt argue it, beside as well as the boys are playing they don’t need a soft gift pen

  158. JC says:

Now I WOULD argue that one he was well onside for what would have been our 5th.

  159. Lebomanc says:

Love the da silvas… Great future ahead

What’s the score so far? Still 4-1?

  160. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Cedars

No way are you 22 you sounded at least 40 on the blower the other night :-)

I will have to look after all you oldies when your out trying to drink with the young guns.

  161. JC says:

You’ve got to be f’ing kidding me, that side judge is blind.

  162. dazbomber says:

    What a goal

  163. JC says:

    What a strike!

  164. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    JC

Side judge? Haha do you mean the linesman?

  165. JC says:

Yeah lol sometimes I slip in a little American Football lingo pardon :D He’s still blind.

  166. dazbomber says:

This lad Blackett is something else , he is a giant of a lad and so skillful.

  167. Costas says:

So I take it Ioannou is playing? Nice.

    @Cedars

Oh, I’ll keep that in mind. You are closer to your silver anniversary.

  168. dazbomber says:

    1-5 to the lads

  169. JC says:

Well done boys, we’ve certainly got a plethora of up and coming talent in the youth team.

  170. Mikekelly12 says:

What the fuck is a side judge?? Haha!

That Josh Harrop ….skilful little bugger …

  172. Collyhurst Red says:

    Evening all………..

Tell you what, our youth team would have given Wigan a beating on tonight’s performance!

Really enjoyable game to watch, there was some silky skills on show.

The future’s bright, the future’s Red!

    :-)

  173. Utd4life says:

Side Judge?? LOL. SuperBowl is on Sunday mate.

  174. Collyhurst Red says:

Just reading back up the thread…………..

    Happy Birthday Cedars!

  175. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Mike

We will have to pull the same trick hide in the corner with me you, James, the king and if he is a weird fucker were off lol

  176. slim says:

There’s way too much talent at the club to hand over the manager reins to a result -driven manager ala Jose Mourinho. Nothing against the portugese man , in fact i quite like him but the talent at this club needs to be nurtured. The reserves and Academy have some fantastic talents.

Never been a fan of ex players becoming managers but God be my witness i’m keeping fingers crossed for OGS. I hope he has a good run in the champions league. I see no reason he why he shouldn’t be on his way to OT if he can keep them playing that competition for 3-5 years on the trot. He knows the club and the emerging talent inside out and is the most successful of recent ex players turned managers. Come on Ole!!!!

  177. Mikekelly12 says:

    Giggs12
Hahaha!! Yeah, keep a low profile and wait and see who orders half a shandy? If he’s covered in badges and wearing a United baby grow, we’re outa there !! Just remembered, remember that bar maid on Tuesday?! How fucking scary was she?!!

  178. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

That game was awful, lost pocession in centre field. We need to work on our offense and ensure our wide receivers are in the phase of play. The side judge definitely needs to to reduce his flags.

    JC

Love it mate, is going crazy in the states for the superbowl?

  179. Denton davey says:

From those highlights of the first four goals, Van Velzen looks like he’s a serious prospect – left-footed AND big AND skillful/composed. I’ve read a lot about Daehli -small AND highly polished. And Barmby looks pretty good, too.

  180. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

    Mike

Your not wrong mate if he is badged up to the nines he can drink his pimms on his own….all aboard the tollgate.

I thought the barmaid was joking at first but she was deadly serious haha

  181. Red Nation says:

You wanna nurture talent when The Big Man leaves…Say Hello To Mr. David Moyes….PROVEN!.

He’s got the cold stare to scare off the press.
    He’s a disciplinarian,
    brings through youth,
    Good eye for talent
    Has beaten top teams,
    nearly won cups
has been at 1 club and built it for 1 years.
    Loyal and dedicated.
    He’s scottish, he’s experienced !
All on Pennies as a Budget !

Either him or Laurent Blanc (depending on france sucess)….the job is too soon for OGS. (Ole!)
Pep or Jose are the idiots choice….we are not Chelsea or Titty.

  182. Red Nation says:

    10 years —- I meant

  183. Fred says:

Everton must have had their annual good result – people are suggesting Moyes for the United job again.

Strange that no-one was touting Moyes as Sir Alex’s successor after any of Everton’s 11 league defeats this season… oh wait, no it isn’t.

  184. Costas says:

    @Cedars

I should also pass along MG’s wishes for your birthday. You own him a piece of cake too. :)

  185. Adam qaran says:

  187. WillieRedNut says:

My sources are telling me…….Larry White is in the mix.

  188. Red Nation says:

    Fred –
This guy is a name thrown about for the last 4 years. I’d rather have him than over some Jose Knobrinho or some Pep.

As if if Moyes comes as a suprise candidate to you.

  189. Giggs12Gerrard0 says:

Talk of Fergies replacement is futile, he has bathed in thr foutain of eternal outh. They will be carrying him him out in a box before he retires.

No one is capable of taking over.

  190. WillieRedNut says:

If it was up to Fred, he’d have Ronaldo as Fergie’s replacement. ;)

  191. FletchTHEMAN says:

For those thinking Rafael could make it. Please take a look at this.
Answers the question: Why bring back Scholes? Cleaverley is the only one near this.

  192. Red Nation says:

Lol Ronnie would do a great job !

Nobody is capable…doesn;t mean the job becomes redundant after Sir Alex. Im 100% sure the plan is Jose Morecrapinho which is pathetic, YEAH we’ll win trophies with this knob but what happens after he leaves, a bunch of good kids ignored, Utd paying higher salaries to overpaid princesses and an impossible-er job for the next dude.

Hopefully the Glazers fuck off with a £1.5bn profit & the new owner backs Ferguson and the replacement just in time, because im telling you, if the Glazers are still around after Sir Alex, we’re FUCKED UP – DoggyStyle.

  193. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Mike Phelan should be the next United manager.

  194. Saad says:

It’s worth taking a look at the second goal scored by GV2 (I stay away from names that have too many V’s). Noice Mats Daehli’s run. His timing for the assist was perfect. Had he passed early, the keeper could’ve gathered himself and make a decent effort to block GV2′s shot. If Daehli chose not to cross, he could’ve botched it coz the angle got tight on him and the defender was fast approaching him. Instead, Daehli took it as far as he could, kept the keeper focused on him, and just before the defender arrived, he puts in the assist.

Perfection! You can’t teach that shit! :D

  195. FletchTHEMAN says:

Think Ole has a shot. First, he knows all the kids in coming through the youth set up and recruited some.
Second he took several united coaches with him and a couple of players.
Only think he lacks is euro experience, which he starts to get next year.

Breaking: DeGea will be fit for Chavs.

  196. iced earth says:

    hello everyone
    great news about de gea
with lindy out he must take his chance and prove his worth
    any news about cleverly?
looks like fyres want out according to the daily fail he refused our offer

  197. WillieRedNut says:

I see the papers are saying we’re stuck with De gea? Cheeky cunts.

  198. FletchTHEMAN says:

    @IcedEarth Cheers mate.

First off, Zeki is a manc.
Second, DailyFail are a cadre of WUMs.
Third, the report of 1,500 sounds like it has some room for sweetening. Particularly as the lad has had several cracks at the first team in the CarlingCup run.
Finally, Lads Twitter has 100% united stuff and 0% whinging

Think our Zeki has a future unless SAF suggest otherwise.

Early doors yet on that one.

  199. ricky says:

heard utds buying fyvie end of season, is he good?
moyes def next manager after saf dies, proven and always praised by fergie and has a great transfer record, perfect 4 the glazers

  200. brett1985 says:

HMM I see Liverpool’s allocation has been cut. Going to be a lot of fuss about Luis Suarez if he plays and press keeping a close eye on fan behaviour I’ll bet.

I know this might not be popular but can we really get away with singing ‘without killing anyone’? in the past I’d say that it is an attack on the perpetrator, not the victim but it does not appear that many rival fans or neutral observers are particularly sympathetic to that perspective.

  201. Costas says:

I agree with Notorious. Phelan to succeed Fergie. No one pops a balloon like him.

  202. JC says:

Love you guys fuck me you’re mercilous, damn! lol Yeah gettin a little close to the SB so I’ve been splitting my tv viewing between Fox Soccer channel and some of the NFL Network coverage this week , they start blending together… When I finally get my ass over there for a game (again as we honeymooned in Eng/Scotland but I was on the wife’s itinerary…) I’m ringing you guys up for a couple pints.

  203. WillieRedNut says:

Mickey P hasn’t got the balloons to take over from Fergie.

  204. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Phelan?!

  205. FletchTHEMAN says:

Mickey Phelan….. Actually that might explain perfectly why all the U19s are refusing to sign new contracts…… hmm have to think on that one. ;)

  206. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@brett1985 – Reluctantly have to agree with you about the “without killing anyone” chant. Everyone misinterprets that chant because its us and with the PC world we live in today I can see stewards well within their rights throwing people out over that one (Not that they will, majority of the stewards do not deserve their wages judging by the things I’ve seen). It pisses me off how the entire english footballing world really does not give 2 shits about what went down at Heysel.

Mickey Phelan to take over from Sir Alex.

Interesting read: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/feb/01/the-knowledge-premier-league-transfer-window – halfway down the article.

    UNITED’S CUP WOES
“Manchester United are out of the Champions League, the FA Cup and the League Cup,” sympathises Andrew Hatfield. “How many times have they been dumped out of three cup competitions by the end of January?”

This is only the second time this has happened to United, Andrew. The first came in 1980-81, the last season of Dave Sexton’s miserable reign. United were beaten 1-0 home and away by Coventry in the second round of the League Cup; then, on 1 October, Widzew Lodz put them out of the Uefa Cup on away goals. United reached the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Brighton in a replay but a 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on 24 January ended their FA Cup campaign – and their season: in those days there was no Europa League consolation, and no title challenge.

The only other time United came close to a hat-trick of cup failures before the end of January was in 1977-78, again under Sexton. Having been knocked out of the League Cup and Cup Winners’ Cup before Christmas, they lost an FA Cup fourth-round replay at West Brom on 1 February.

  209. samuel - united WE stand says:

Not expecting much from this current academy players this season but they seem to be going nicely. Can’t hype any of them yet because they’re yet to develop fully but some real talents lie in there and they are playing well in the fa youth cup, hopefully they keep it going.

  210. FletchTHEMAN says:

Brett1985 This is the year when taking the piss got a really bad rep. Song has to go I’m afraid.

  211. NotoriousRedDevil says:

As much as I despise Terry, I don’t think he should be chucked out the ingurland squad. The captaincy without question should be taken from him. He has a serious allegation over his head, I’m not sure how it works abroad but in England if there’s a serious allegation against you such as bringing the company into disrepute, sexual harassment. Some companies suspend you until the inquiry is through. During that time you may get paid but forfeit any commission/bonuses you could possibly earn whether you’re found guilty or innocent.

I see the same thing happening here, unfortunately for JT the case won’t be heard till July 9th so its just tough luck that the captaincy has to be taken from him. I think he’s guilty but just because nothing has been proven. I for on bet he was glad the trial got delayed because it meant he could stay as ingurland captain, well I bet he wishes the trial was tomorrow now.

Laughing my head of, his summer and pre-season is well and truly fucked.

  212. It's in my blood says:

    Hi all.

    Cedars, Happy Birthday mate!
Are you celebrating tonight or over the weekend?
Just got back from down south, freezing my bollocks off!

Re the youth team tonight, Tyler Blacket, rated him for some time.
He was very unlucky last year having played consistently well before an injury, i think he missed out on the YC final having played earlier rounds.
Strong, skilful and has pace, definitely better than Friars imo. As mike said, one to note.

  213. FletchTHEMAN says:

Costas Cheers mate. Very interesting read fromt he Daily fail. Several other rags are saying the FA is considering dumping JT. Only the Mail is actually saying its done. Quess we will see.

So who might be up next? Rio probably not fit enough. Gerrard? hmmm not much of an improvement then.

  214. FletchTHEMAN says:

Happy Birthday Cedars! May all things good come your way son!

  215. It's in my blood says:

    WRN

Hi mate, any further thoughts on the Cedars/Lucan/James and poss mike connection!
(Note they all conveniently avoided the subject!)

  216. brett1985 says:

Yea I tend to agree with you guys. The song though misunderstood probably has to go. It is quite a bizaree situation really. Songs about Munich can only be construed as mocking the dead. Even amongst Liverpool fans not all of them sing Munich songs. After all who could misunderstand the content. Likewise with Hillsborough songs ’96 not enough’. Obviously that is pinpointing the dead for mockery, abuse, cruelty etc.

The only song that is widespread amongst all these is at OLD TRAFFORD when ‘without killing anyone’ springs up. It is unfortunate in that the song also encaptulates our 3 European Cups so it is going to be popular. Where it differs from the other inappropriate songs mentioned above is that it does not mock the dead but rather the perpetrators at Heysel. Therefore many united fans can justify singing it where they would not sing other songs.

This leaves united fans as the only group singing widespread songs concerning a tragedy even if not mocking the tragedy or the dead.

I think it will be the biggest step of all in eradicating these types of songs for united fans to dispense with a song that is more misunderstood than anything else. Such is the price we might have to pay to be the more progressive of the two clubs and lead the way.

  217. Costas says:

    @Fletch

You are welcome. It has to be Gerrard I feel. He has less injury problems than Rio and lets face it, he’s guaranteed to start games no matter how impressive Carrick or others may be.

  218. WillieRedNut says:

It’s in my blood – A conspiracy methinks mate? If we can isolate one of them and then fill him with drink, he’ll talk. My money would be on James. He’s a shandy drinker!

  219. FletchTHEMAN says:

    ItsInMyBlood.
I like Blacket as well but I am concerned that he is not getting much of a look at the national team.
1.86m (6’1.22′) is a great size for a 17 year old. Might have another inch to go as well.
Scored the final goal v Swans today. Very impressive. Really enjoying watching the FAYC matches this year. Team has been really dominant. Think Swans were the first to score on us in 5-6 matches.

  220. It's in my blood says:

Haha! James mate, you’re gonna have to sink some of the real incredibly strong stuff to convince the doubters! ( A bit like Blackadder and his drinking contest!)

Let’s hope he gets a chance, the signs are good.
A lot of new faces in this years Youth team, they’ve done well to get the results they’ve got so far, without looking like they’ve really gelled yet.
One could argue that it’s the sign of a good team, getting results without playing at their best!
    Hmm…now where have i heard that before…?

Rooney looks to be fit for Sunday. Interesting quote from Kompany in there? He says they’ve been living with pressure for 3 years now. United have had it for 20 years ffs!

Oh the joys of early hour feeds.

Giggs12. Yes mate I certainly will be at Platts.

Willie. Ha. Neymar the lesbian. What a fucking ponce he is. Deal to Barca done by all accounts in the summer. Ballague the knob said after the club world cup he was a boy against men. Three weeks later he says when Barca get him they will become even better. Make your mind up Rafa bumboy. Another flavour of the month who is more bothered about his barnet. As for Kompany is that squarehead for real? Three years of pressure. Joker. They also keep saying how they are everyones cup final. Oh fuck off. Like you say Willie we have had that for more than two decades. Nobody gives a flying fuck about that two bob club.

Samuel. Agree mate. I didn’t expect much from the youth side this year as they just seemed so much less developed than last years side Blackett the beast and McCullough aside but they are doing fucking well. Swansea knocked the dippers out last round three nil or one. The side we beat in the fourth round despatched of the so called great Arsenal youth side. They are bubbling along nice. The only one I don’t really rate is the striker Byrne. Great goal by Blackett. Where was Junazi tonight?

Would LOVE to retain the cup.

Costas. Nobody pops a baloon like Phelan. Quality mate.

Right back to the wanking pit.

Facts and figures ahead of the Premier League clash between Chelsea and Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

1.Man Utd have won five of the last six matches in all competitions against
    Chelsea.

2.Fernando Torres has scored four goals in his last seven Premier League games against Man Utd.

3.Chelsea have lost as many times in their last seven league games (3) as
they had in the previous 53 matches at Stamford Bridge.

4.Man Utd have scored just four goals in their last 10 visits in all competitions to Stamford Bridge.

5.Wayne Rooney has scored four goals in his last seven Premier League appearances against Chelsea and also netted on his last two visits to Stamford bridge, one in the league and one in the Champions League.

Hollow. Hollow. Hollow. Chelsea’s success is fuckin hollow. All that money they took. From that big russian crook. And you’ll never win 3 in a row.

  231. Sandeep1878 says:

  238. Jeet says:

Does somebody know the extent of chelsea’s injury/suspension worries ahead of sunday? Cole is out as is the Drog. heard that Ramirez and lampard are also out? And terry is doubtful, though i imagine he will push himself for the big match. fucker doesnt realize that he would do the team a service by sitting out. And essien i guess is either injured or in the ANC?

  239. CedarsDevil says:

    Morning all

Many thanks to all those who posted birthday wishes. I can hardly remember anything from last night which means I certainly had a good time!

  241. CedarsDevil says:

Lebomanc – Many thanks, I did pick up your wishes earlier in the thread. Have a lovely day.

Willie & It’s in my blood – Yep, James would be your best bet if you want the ‘truth’ revealed, he will easily crack under pressure! haha

Mike & Giggs12 – Covered in badges and wearing a United baby grow? Bloody cracked me up the pair of you.

Giggs12 – 22 was in response to Costas, its the number of drinking years! I turned 45 yesterday my friend

  242. zelh says:

fantastic win by our youth side. What a player Daehli is. If he knuckles down he can become a top top lad.

  251. CedarsDevil says:

I was so hungover this morning that I slit my self left right and center whilst trying to shave. Blood was pouring out of my face like a Roman fountain!

    Sandeep

Thanks pal, I also picked up your earlier greeting….Cheers

  252. Twisted Fatboy says:

A very Merry Un Birthday to you CedarsDevil..!

Chelski are trying to get the game called off because of the snow, so they’re running scared. Must have heard about all the boys getting back, Young is available too apparently…no wonder they’re trying to hide.

  253. CedarsDevil says:

    Twisted Fatboy

Thanks! Always loved your moniker by the way….

If Young is also fit than the boss has the kind of selection headaches that he enjoys. I cannot for the life of me predict a starting line up however my gut feeling tells me we will win. Not taking anything for granted mind but its just a feeling!

  254. Sandeep1878 says:

    Twisted Fatboy,

we all know how they fucking called off the corresponding fixture and reschedule according to their ease…

Hollow. Hollow. Hollow. Chelsea’s success is fuckin hollow. All that money they took. From that big russian crook. And you’ll never win 3 in a row.
