It’s safe to say that probably weren’t many Manchester United fans expecting us to go to the home of last season’s Champions League finalists and win, but that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night. The last time PSG conceded a goal or lost a game at home in Europe was against United back in March 2019. With several key players missing from the starting line-up, you would be forgiven for thinking we’d have a tough time against the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Angel Di Maria. But United were the better side and deservedly left with a 2-1 win, thanks to Marcus Rashford’s late goal.

Rashford spoke to the official site after the game and sung the praises of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics.

I think the manager got it spot on today. The system allowed us to express ourselves going forward and to be tight defensively, which I think we did as well as we could. Of course, it’s a big win and a perfect position to be in because we got a lot to improve on as well. It’s a good performance and a performance we have a lot to build on. I always believe in the team, as players it’s important to believe in the system the manager wants us to play. Today we did that fantastically.

It was difficult at times, especially late on it’s tough. Like I’ve said before, we kept the intensity high. At times we had to defend really deep. They have some unbelievable players, Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria. You know, player who play the ball forward. In a low block, it can be tough but the fullbacks, they defend unbelievable. When you defend like that, man to man, we can do great things.

At the end of the day we’re in a strong position now in the group. It’s the first game. The concentration and the intensity we showed today we need to take into the next game in the Premier League.
