Real Madrid Player Wants United Move

Manchester United have been linked to Real Madrid midfielder, Mahamadou Diarra, which the player has responded well to.

He was bought from Lyon for £22m in 2006 but after under-going knee surgery and missing the best part of a season, lost his number and starting place to Lassana Diarra in 08-09.

When United faced Lyon in the group stages in 04-05, Diarra scored the equalising goal against United before Ruud van Nistelrooy scored the winner.

After only playing in 18 games for Real Madrid in all competitions this season, it makes sense he would want to move on. However, with him turning 29-years-old in a few weeks, the legitimacy of the rumour has to be questioned.

“I am very flattered to be linked with a prestigious club like Manchester United,” said Diarra. “They are a top team and on a same level as Madrid. The Premier League is also the top league in the world, so let’s wait and see. I am not playing a lot and at the end of the season I will discuss my situation with all parties and a decision will be taken. I want to play week in, week out like all top players.”

I’m not to convinced with him to be honest. I’d rather we invest on younger players. I kind of fancy Catermole. He’s a good player.

  2. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

its one of these deals where the agent take a madrid “player” to an everton and say “well Manchester united want him so …..”

    No thanks.

  5. steve says:

Typical sunday shite, except on a Thursday for some unknown reason. No use even considering it until Fergie says something to the contrary…

  6. Red Dave says:

    no thanks mate, keep walking

  7. elvido says:

I agree, would rather of Cattermole, Milner… Players tried and tested in the league. And we need more of a creative influence in the center now, not another defensive mid.

  8. Costas says:

    Translation:

“4 years ago, United were interested in me, but I prefered the fascists and their money. Now that they have ruined my career, hopefulyl United will be interested in me again”.

Sorry for being harsh, thanks, but no thanks.

  9. arijc says:

I would prefer we sign Alou Diarra.

  10. Superhans says:

I kinda think its more important for UTD to sell right rather then buy right in the close season.
All the players that i see as “dead wood” are sitting in the way of young talent coming through.
Sell carrick, gibson, park and i have no doubt it will work to promote the best talent and get them in the first team squad.

Figure out if either PIG or foster is good enough to be first choice. Or has Sir alex already figured that out? If they are not then sell them both ASAP. Neither of them will be happy to be on the bench much longer.

  11. willierednut says:

arijc – You beat me to it, i’d rather have the other Diarra.

  12. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Scott this is abit strange tat you would write a post on this as united are strongly linked with Neven Subotic of Dortmund, Milner-with talk that the deal is done over oneils head that marty may pack his bags in 4 weeks and Benzema Again

  13. giggs11gerrard0 says:

Dont you just love the silly season in the media! Bull shit stories to sell rags!

  14. Gudjohnsen says:

Costas has got it exactly right.

Besides, we need a creative midfielder, not a 29 year old defensive midfielder.

  15. King Eric says:

Another midfielder with dodgy knees? No ta.

  16. brian says:

i live in spain and they reports saying the deal fpr diarra is done all ready. united scouts have being watching diarra for some tinme. they were at the lyon ganme this season watching him. the marca paper aslo said madrid would like to evra in swap for benzenma.

  17. willierednut says:

The other Diarra is similar to Makelele, think we need more of a creative midfielder.

  18. King Eric says:

Alou Diarra, this cunt,. Lassana. How many of them are there?

  19. King Eric says:

Sell Gibson and Park? Yeah top idea mate. Lets sell the only young midfielder who smashes the back of the net everytime he plays and lets sell Park. Fuck me. Some people would sell off half the team and buy who they fancy. Luckily Fergie is managing United.

  20. Costas says:

There is also a Mahamadou’s brother, Arouna Diarra. Both of them started their careers in Greece. Mahamadou showed a lot of promise. Until he did a Benzema and went to Real.

  21. King Eric says:

“sitting in the way of young talent”. Would Gibson not happen to be this “young talent”?

  22. Costas says:

    @King Eric

Gibson is lying about his age mate. He is 40. :P

  23. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    @Superhans
    Sell Carrick Park and Gibson

you have to be winding us up with that

  24. bigphil2003 says:

Is this not the same guy that we considered as a consolation prize when we couldn’t get Hargreaves first go round? I wouldn’t take any of the Diarras to be honest. “Lass” as he likes to be known nowadays is a heap of shite.
I’ve said a few times that the best thing about Anderson is his potential, but completely ignoring his “potential” and judging him purely on now, he’s way better than any of these jokers.

  25. Costas says:

    @bigphil2003

That was Marcos Senna. He wouldn’t have been a bad buy actually.

  26. King Eric says:

Off topic but I fucking hate Pat Barclay the Arsenal arse licker:

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/european_football/article7111508.ece

Yeah we may rue the day Fergie wouldn’t retire. Prick.

  27. Superhans says:

    @ king Eric.

Gibson is not young talent no. He is “semi old not proved himself yet talent” The man cant pass a ball, is insecure under pressure from an opponent. and does not smash it in the net EVERYTIME he plays. The young talent is in the reserves and academy.

and by the way i am not talking about buying anyone. thats my point!

Park can NOT play football for what i consider the best club in the world. No touch, No footballing brain, bad finishing. Running is not a footballing virtue. never was and never will be. Although good work ethic is always commendable.

  28. King Eric says:

big phil – Spot on about “Lass”. What is it by the way with this pretentious names on back of shirts in Spain “Sergio” and “Lass” and “Guti HAZ”? It just annoys me.

  29. rooney the new king says:

why in the fuck would we sign a player who is more dodgy than hargreaves, and does anyone find it a joke that the fascist can cherry pick our best players but we take their left overs, it is like we are some dogs on the streets who get what is left in the bins. If we are going to take diarra its the good one at the fascist not the one who they do not need. Who next we sign raul, wouldnt that be a kick in the balls we sign guti diarra and raul if that did happen we would seem to copy milan the club who takes the pentioners and it would show the scum want united to win things on the cheap.

  30. King Eric says:

SuperHans – Gibson is 22 mate. What did you think of Fletch at that age? Ok I may have exaggerated but he does score goals, he CAN pass the ball which I can’t see why people say otherwise and whenever the full backs bound forward who is the lad dropping back to cover? As for Park just ask Pirlo what he thinks to him.

  31. rooney the new king says:

King Eric – patrick barcley is a joke cant stand the prick, and did he see inter last night even with 11 men they were dire, at united its all about the players with the fake special one he thinks he is playing

  32. King Eric says:

“semi old not proved himself talent”. Seriously mate is that a joke?

  33. rooney the new king says:

does patrick barcley in one of his hobbies in his spare timegive blow jobs to piers retarded morgan, only the english could like him like they liked wife beating gazza, and dirty scum like cole terry gerrard when jurnolists with a brain can see through this guy

  34. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Superhans is right

    Give up on Gibson

  35. bigphil2003 says:

@Costas, Yeah I remember Senna actually, he decided he didn’t want to be anyone’s consolation prize and basically ruled us out, fair play to him for that. You’re right, he turned out to be a decent player since. But I definitely remember us being linked with Diarra that same summer before he went to Madrid, he’s not exactly set the world on fire since then though has he?

@King Eric – Exactly mate, can you imagine if Rooney turned up next season with “WAZZA” on his back?! Fucking bellends.

  36. willierednut says:

What was Lampard doing at 22? Gibbo’s the future.

  37. bigphil2003 says:

Actually, I wouldn’t put it past “JT” and “LAMPS”…

  38. Costas says:

    @GHTT

We heard the same from plenty of United fans about Nani didn’t we? In hindsight we should have given up on him.

  39. redevil_83 says:

i’m not too high on gibson. he’s a poor man’s carrick right now and to be honest, that’s not saying much really. but he’s got some time on his side (he’s 24 i believe)…so he may improve. right now his passing, his first touch required of a united CM is not tops.

  40. willierednut says:

Bigphill03 – I think Senna was named best midfielder at European championship in 08.

  41. Fred says:

Never really been a fan of M. Diarra. Not a fan of “Lass” either, who alot of reds I know seem to over-rate.

As for Patrick Barclay, he has to be the biggest cunt working in journalism today. Seems to hate United/Fergie. He doesn’t just write shite about us though, oh no. After we beat City 1-0 he wrote that they should sack Mankini and rebuild their entire squad FFS. He knows fuck-all about football.

  42. MG says:

No thanks – why the fuck do we need a reject for?

  43. Costas says:

    @bigphil2003

Yeah Diarra was rumored too. It was after Keano left us and we were linked with every midfielder out there. At the time. Diarra could have made a difference with us given time. Fergie could have turned him into some player. Now? No way.

  44. MG says:

What we need is a jnr Roy Keane – any chance of the man coming back himself – doesn’t seem to have aged

And for that matter neither has Ole

    Sir Alex sign them up!

  45. willierednut says:

Furthermore, it says a lot for Senna, when he kept Fabregas and Alonso out of the Spain team.

  46. bigphil2003 says:

@willierednut – All he does is score great big fucking screamer goals, including in really important games……. Why would United need someone who has that, plus plenty of time on his side to improve his other skills?! People wrote off Fletcher at 22…

  47. Fred says:

redevil_83 – Gibson is nothing like Carrick and he’s 22 btw, not 24. I agree that he’s not that great though but he’s a decent squad player. And as King Eric suggested, he will only get better as he matures.

  48. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

stevie me should get his prison number on his back

  49. willierednut says:

And also, He’s training with Scholsey and Giggsy most days, if you can’t learn of them two you’re fooked.

  50. bigphil2003 says:

Btw, my last post was about Gibson

  51. willierednut says:

    GHTT – Number 16 lol.

  52. Peter says:

Its funny how you hear Madrid players talking about an exit from the club (Diarra, Ronaldo). Just makes you think that its not all that sunny in Madrid.

Just having a look at some of there recent transfers
    Karim Benzema
    Kaka
    Fernando Alonso
    Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
    Arjen Robben
    Van der Vaat
    Saviola
    Wesley Sneijder
    Baptista
    Robinho
    Ruud van Nistelrooy

There are some big names that have all ruined there careers by joining Madrid. If i was a players agent and i gave a shit about my players, i wouldnt recommend them to join this fascist club.

  53. Tom F says:

I wouldn’t let these inevitable pre-summer rumours tickle you too much. The fact that Foster has been ‘linked’ with Brum and Modric with us, is all based on the reality that Hart will go back to City and Scholes will be ending is career in the not too distant future. Remember it’s the same papers that report Fergie as leaving at the end of next season – I just love where these exclusives are coming from, sheer genius!

As for our current squad, it clearly does need tweaking, in the same way other teams will freshen up and improve over the next few months, but in general I am quite happy. I wouldn’t class Gibson as ‘A poor man’s Carrick’ at all, I think he is one of the best youngsters to come through in a while, up with Johnny Evans. He’s had a good impact on our performances, more so than Anderson, who while talented, was naturally given a lot more time and respect due to his Brazilian nationality.

Like BigPhil2003 mentioned, another player, Fletcher was constantly put down by United fans for years, only recently has he been getting more praise and respect, the guy is only young and pressure should come from anywhere but our own fans. You can see in his movement that he has learnt a hell of a lot from Scholes and that is something I am sure Gibbo will benefit from.

It really is a big shame about Hargreaves, if he can come back to being near to his best, then we will have a top, top player back in our side with no need to dip into the transfer market. Hargreaves is up there with any England midfield player, great defending and quick getting forward. The last I can remember of him was against Arsenal, scoring the Free kick to help us win 2-1 and that performance was top drawer.

What Permier League players would you like to see at United, if any?

  54. Bob Koh says:

Here’s the list of those who spurned us for money & then now they’re are shitty at their club…..
    Benzema (plus the sex scandal)
    Eidur Gudjohnson
Robben (he’s be shitty again when they lose to Inter in the CL final)
    Ballack
    John Obi Mikel
..care to add to the list?

  55. Reddevil forever says:

Seriously Gibson is better than this Guy we just nées to sell carrick and brinng modric.

  56. jb says:

really dont like the abuse gibson is getting!! wtf?
he is 22!! time to wake up he is the future!!
i thought his performance against bayern was inspired!!!

  57. Superhans says:

    @ King Eric.

Pirlo would maybe say that Park cant PLAY football. And he would be right i think.

Being 22 is not young anymore. Its just like when people say Foster is a young goalie. Even for a GK he is too old not to have played regular football. (bar watford)

What if Rooney had been stuck on the bench until age 20? No he was too good to be counted out, and Gibson is NOT too good to be counted out.

The fact is that some players will be shipped off because they dont get to play. Wellbeck will be loaned out once or twice then sold because he wont get the chance to play. The same with Cleverly, Possebon, King, Cathcart, C.Evans, Eikrem and Petrucci. Mark my words. they will have the same fate one and all.

And why I hear you ask? :@)

Because the deadwood dosent get trimmed. Why did the class of 92 end up great players and legends for the club? Because they got to PLAY. thats the only thing that makes players. They can train all they want but without playing they wont become PLAYERS, just stay talents.

I personally dont understand they hype about the man. united. academy. If my son was an up-and-coming talent. I would ask him to join Everton, West Ham or Birmingham . WHY? because they cant buy a Berbatov for 30 mill. Just an example of how the club is run now.

What if gibson was some african guy with a strange name? Everyone would say he had no futire at the club. Passing sideways and backwards dosent show the creative football i want to see. That said …. I think he is better than Carrick. At least Gibson can run and shoot.

  58. Dense@Hubpages says:

Seems to me he is engineering a move away from Madrid. No thanks! Would prefer to see some of the youth players like Cleverly in the first team midfield next year. Or even Gibson. :)

  59. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    peter

put kaka in bold letters on top of that list

  60. rooney the new king says:

Peter – the players you have names how much did they cost and the wages, I said on another post if any other club apart from the fascist did that spend wrecklesly they would be put up for administration because their numbers do not add up, it is like given the keys to the ferrari to a couple of 12 year olds their buisness plan makes no sence. the spannish goverment are one smart move away from seeing that club thrown where they belong to the dogs like last weeks pork chops.

  61. rooney the new king says:

Superhans – those players you have mentioned should be pushed on and given a proper chance but they are not given a chance, it is a joke how players like tosic on his loan spell who is more productive than all our wingers combined is not given a proper chance, Cleverly, Possebon, King, Cathcart, C.Evans, Eikrem and Petrucci you all mentioned would be first team players in all the other premiership clubs.

  62. willierednut says:

And still all the top players want to play for Madrid, sickening.

  63. aladdnzane says:

@willierednut It’s less about wanting to play for them and more about getting paid from Madrid.

  64. Sayyid says:

    @willierednut

of course…they are money grabbing fascist whores…and its not like we’re bitter or anything!!!

if real madrid were in the prem, they would have done a Leeds, but the fascist spanish govt keep on bailing them out…and what does Platini say..nothing

    scum

  65. Superhans says:

    @ R T N K

    jup. i think so too.

Why is Smalling better than C.Evans or Cathcart? IS he better. I dont know.

We make excuses for ourselves all the time. We say maybe Tosic is too light for us. We say that djemba x2 was a joke. Was he much worse than M.C or D.G. ?

How big was juniniho, modric, lennon, etc. ?

FACT is that the last one to come from the academy is Fletcher. What is our academy for? Making players for other clubs?

Wes Brown and O’shea. That was ages ago. Lets stop kidding ourselves. We do NOT produce our own players. But that said. It might not be all wrong thinking about the sucess we have had.

  66. bigphil2003 says:

Did I just read that right? Tosic on his loan spell is more productive than Valencia, Nani, Giggs and Park combined?

  67. Marcwilliems says:

    Hi guys!
All the “rumours” linking united to “Madrid leftovers” really annoys me. For God’s sake don’t we have better DM around the world? I pray SAF does not sign any of the Diarras (LASS OR MAM)
Now to Gibson, i just cant understand why most United fans dont appreciate the guy’s talent. All these talk of him been one dimensional is pure bullshit.when Steven gerrard and lampard where 22yrs old, whr they as good as gibson.no! So why all these trash?

  68. Sayyid says:

    @superhans

the prem is the early 90s was so weak that we could afford to play youngsters

if we take the strategy this time, we could easily be overtaken by several clubs

just look at arsenal…playing youngsters and have won nothing in 5 years

at least SAF gradually introduces the youngesters like Fletch, Evans, Macheda, Rafa and Gibson

I hope next year we see Cleverley, Tosic, Obertan, King, Possebon, Fabio get more chance, but not thrown in the deep end

  69. musvn says:

No thanks! You missed it and passed it. I’d rather see some youngsters like C.Evans, Possebon or Norwood coming through.

  70. Noqnoq 48 says:

Just read that Rooney has been awarded the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year.

  71. Drew Vader says:

    On topic — I f’ing hope not.

  72. BabyFaceAssasin says:

Is this a joke….c’mon Mahamadou Diarra this guy is the last guy we need….I don’t even think we need a DM we need an AM….ala Luca Modric….anyway Hargreaves should be back fully fit next season…

  73. Danillaço says:

Diarra?? WTF? Why have players like that? Who are we? Let’s have Campbell and Silvestre then. Or Vieira. lol

I said this on the Untied board at BigSoccer, we don’t need to dig deep in the transfer market and make a revolution. And we could do very well with viable options:

We could really use a strong MF to pair with Fletcher, and free the Maestro in the 4-5-1 or creat a strong wall in the in the 4-4-2, allowing the wingers more space, and even go in the attack, not being shy to score goals or pop-up in attacking plays. In my mind we have a perfect candidate for the spot:

    Yaya Toure.

He’s not having the majority of chances in Barça, and is behind in the pecking order with Biscuits having the preference. We could have a great deal on him. He can pass, he can mark, have the physical presence, and the skills to adapt very well to the PL.

As for the Attacking MF we still have Scholes for a year. And we have good option inside the club to look to. Anderson is a natural AM, Cleverley is coming back more mature and experienced, and for the surprise of many Tosic is really playing well and fluid behind the strikers at Koln. Could the wonder kid play as a Maestro? May be, he’s got the goods.

We could wait a bit and see if one of them pops-up. But if we can’t there are options in the market for that too. Ireland (boos please), Modric (Berba costed 30, wonder how would that go), and my favorites Hamsik, Jovetic and Özil.
Hamsik showed he can play in a two man midfield, got talent, got vision and is young. But at what cost?]
Jovetic, maybe the most prepared and skilled, has attacking force, hell of a lot of skils and can even play as a winger.
Özil, amazing player and has one year left in the contract. Maybe is the best deal we can get regarding price and could florish under SAF’s command.

Said that, I can say that couldn’t give less of a fuck about Diarra wanting to come to United. Let Madrid fuck their carrers and make their dream moves shatter. Like Ruud, Becks, Robinho, Kaka, Sneijder, Robben, Van der Fart e etc.

  74. SteniS says:

Too old and not good enough.

  75. Superhans says:

    @ Sayyid

Is winning the only goal?? Im undecided on that question myself, so you can consider it a bit rethorical.

Thats a good point about the PL in the 90′ties.

I think i would really enjoy to see the players coming through and being Involved in the squad as regular players. I think maybe that i would even go as far as to say that i would give up a throphy or two to see it.

What youngersters are you happy about being introduced? Fletch. (26!!) marcheda (snapped up from the italians) rafa and fabio.? as much as i like them they are NOT academy players. same goes for possebon. But i agree that i want to see them in the team too.

Tosic will be sold withever getting the chance. Cleverly will be loaned out and then sold sooner or later. King is behind Rooney, Berba, Marcheda, Nani as a forward, Wellbcek. So he can forget about it. Would love to see fabio as 2nd choice left back. But oshea has that spot. Possebon wont get a chance… why would he. we already have carrick and gibson in those spots.

Without shipping dead wood out ther CAN not be new players promoted. that has been the point of my posts so far.

    Best wishes.
    Superhans

  76. Robbo says:

nowadays, expectations on the young talent is very high. everyone must be a world beater by the time they are 20. we should give our younger players more time to develop n not rush them into the 1st team. less we forget that when our ‘kids’ in the 90′s came into the squad, they we at 22-23. not everybody is like Sir Giggs who was able to hold his own at 17. dont give up on our youngsters yet. that being said, they too must be a little more patient and ride the pine a while longer. there is no shame to only having started 1st team career in your 20′s

  77. willierednut says:

I’m sure the players are well paid, but don’t kid yourself thats the only reason top players sign for Madrid.

  78. Drew Vader says:

Superhans — You forgot Johnny Evans

  79. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Some bullshit comments on here today. I personally think Hargreaves has had it, unless he can play a full season we still need a defensive midfielder way more than a creative one. Now Nani has found form there should be a lot more creativity in the side. I do find it hilarious that some respected posters are laying into Diarra calling him a reject and what not considering the fact we signed a certain Michael Owen last year. If we can get Diarra cheap I’m not against it, as for him being crocked nobody is as crocked as Hargreaves where its cost us about half a million per game hes played. Hes got one more year on his contract and I fear he will end up like Jesper Blomvquist. Lets face it if we don’t win the league this year I hardly see the cheque book coming out by our or so “noble” owners.

  80. Drew Vader says:

But i agree with your point. Unfortunately, the financial situation of the club means we can’t really afford to take a chance on players right now. If we missed out on the 4th spot like Pool it would be a f’ing disaster to the club. And i’m not saying that as a glory hunter, but just financially the club would be hit so hard by missing out on that extra champions league cash. So what do you do? Well, we load up on potential in inexpensive youth, and just hope that 1 to 2 of that come good, and then you sell the rest at a small profit or hopefully a small loss.

  81. rooney the new king says:

Superhans – djemba was bad, and carrick and gibson are far better. I was heavily criticised that I think there is the lack of quality young players coming through our academy, forget the 90s and the millennium of Fletcher and o Shea, it is the year 2010 and I do not see the club making any strides bringing through these young players, they are there but does the club have the balls to play them.

PPL can say macheda welbeck and diuof will come through I think 2 of the 3 will be sold. Say berbatov stayes and rooney signs his new deal Micheal Owen coming back from injury and united have invested in hernandez, can someone tell me who macheda welbeck and diouf are going to remove from rooney berbatov hernandes owen for the other 3 to get in, also say united continue with 433 how are they going to fit in 7 strikers you are going to have to send 2 on loan, and that in my view will be diouf and welbeck because fergie feels macheda is a good bench player who can make the difference.

in midfield I see more pieces coming and going. I honnestly believe we are letting a gem in tosic go who is productive not only has a winger but he can chip in with goals also, which players like park and obertan have not really done and valencia can have his off days where he is not really in the game like the victory over everton. I believe give tosic a proper chance he is not only 2 footed but you stick tosic on the left and nani who is by far our best wide player you put him back where he belongs wide right. and we get a better balance with rooney tosic and nani who could rip defences to shreds.

I think carthcart cory evans are better than smallen and we are spending money on a defender who is prone to making big mistakes, we are already developing johny evans all united need is an experience defender if vidic left, not another young defender when you put 2 young defenders at CB we will be leaking goals allot more. But there is no point saying they are great prospects well lets get them in the team because sometimes we do sound like arsenal talk is cheap, on the pitch is where potiental is turned into players

  82. Drew Vader says:

And it is frustrating because I would love to see some of our youth get a chance. For example, De laet looks like he could be really good. But we played him at fulham, (yes with fletch and carrick as a back four) and we shipped in 3 goals. So what happens? He gets relegated to the reserves, never to see the light of the OT pitch again (until they play villa next week). Its a shame.

I just really really really wish we could be like Spain and have our reserves play in the Championship or some such.

  83. rooney the new king says:

another question what if smallen came through the academy would he be getting a chance. I think it does give players the advantage that they were bought, if they came through the academy their chances would be more limited when they are actually better than the players signed for cash, does anyone else agree obertan should be moved on and we keep tosic instead

  84. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Drew Vader – Our reserves should be loaned out to premiership football teams and not championship ones. Although I do agree with your point about letting our reserves play professional football in a lower league.

  85. Drew Vader says:

RTNK — man i know he hasn’t really been given much of a chance at all, but yeah Obertan just doesn’t really fill me with confidence. At all. Now, is Tosic a better option? Who knows. I also question Welbeck… just because his first touch was so awful against Leeds.

    I’m a muppet.

  86. AlphaRS says:

No thanks he is too old. Would a had Wesley Sneijder of the fascists last season no problem.
Think we need a bit of creativity in the Scholes mould as we already have the steel.

  87. Fze123 says:

We don’t need a 29 year old with bad knees who ‘wants to play week in week out like all the top players’. I hope the Modric rumour is true, however without the swapping Carrick bit. Just because Carrick had one bad season doesn’t mean he has to go. He was responsible for some costly mistakes this season but on his day no one can deny his importance and valuable contribution. Who will control the tempo of our midfield then? We did cope well with his bad form and non-inclusion in the team this season because Scholesy compensated. But Scholes won’t be able to do the same again. Modric I think would be the final piece of the jigsaw for our midfield. He would slot into our midfield perfecly and we we won’t have to change to accomodate his style. Can also play in a 2 man midfield as well as being able to play on the left; not as effectivde as he is in the middle but does the job. The only problem is that Spurs will be asking too much for him.

  88. willierednut says:

I think people are forgetting the lack of English players coming through at all the clubs. Also, the one hour rule doesn’t help the clubs in attracting young english players. I think we have to accept the class of 92 was a one of and that is born out with the lack of players that have come through since then.

  89. rooney the new king says:

Drew Vader – PPL say they want david silva, well for my money zoran tosic is just has good as silva and it frustrates me he maybe moved on. well cleverly he could do just the same job has modric but the management staff do not seem to have the guts to play him.

  90. willierednut says:

RTNK – I wouldn’t go that far mate, Silva’s a very good player and a European championship winner. Tosic may well go on to be a top player, but i’ll trust the boss on this one.

  91. bchilds says:

If he was aged 22 – 26 then I would say yes but not at this stage of his career.

  92. Danillaço says:

I seriously think that we have enough quality and prospects for all positions in the team, except in CM and Goalie. We have good enough CBs, and FB. Wingers and propects for AM. Enough attackers. We just give them chances, and if doesn’t work, go the market.

I agree with Superhans, youngsters will only be great players, if they play big games. Let’em play, and grow.

    We got quality.

  93. aig alex is god says:

Not needed if his injury record is as what some people say. We need a young player who can play 45-50 games a season. moussa sissoko would be a better option.

As for transfers with real go we missed the chance not trying to get sneijder or robben in the summer in part of exchange for ronnie. they have done excellently this season

  94. rooney the new king says:

aig – where would they fit in, robbens injury record is dire and schneider what is his position, add the fact valencia and nani have both made up for that

  95. King Eric says:

SuperHans – You can’t compare Rooney to Gibson. Rooney is a freak and one in a million. Very few players make the grade before their mid twenties. It bugs me when people say “all he can do is shoot and score goals”. That is a rather good asset to have. I think he was top drawer in his last 2 games and they were hardly “small games”. Bayern and Citeh.

Also I will have a tenner wager with you that Cleverley will get his chance next season. Josh King is still only 17 or 18 so a while before he makes it yet. Don’t give up on them so easily. Anyway we will agree to disagree,

  96. King Eric says:

We do not need a defensive midfielder full stop.

  97. aig alex is god says:

    @RTNK

we could have done with a sneijder in our team this season. We have lacked creativity at times and our set pieces and free kicks have been apalling. easy fit in midfield with scholes and fletcher.

As for robben one thing is he loves taking defenders on and he can play on the right or left or as a 2nd striker because his finishing is good. Also he is another one who is lethal from free kicks. he and rooney would have worked well with their pace adn movement causing problems for defenders. his injury record isnt the best but when he is fit he is a world class player. he hasnt had too many problems this season with injuries

  98. King Eric says:

Superhans – No offence fella but your posts are a bit contradictory. You bemoan the fact we haven’t brought many players through in your opinion then say “Possebon wont get a chance… why would he. we already have carrick and gibson in those spots” . Is Gibbo not an academy lad?

  99. rooney the new king says:

King Eric – well has I see it josh king has a big ladder to climb because there is 7 strikers ahead of him and is he going to get a look in with that many infront of him, a phew will have to go on loan

  100. King Eric says:

Drew – hello mate. Perhaps young De Laet needs to chill a bit. Was sent off for the second time the other night for “nutting” a player. I say nutting it was more handbags at ten paces but even so.

  101. King Eric says:

RTNK – Hello pal. Of course he has a ladder to climb but as I say time is on his side. Perhaps a few won’t make it but that is what the manager is there for to seperate the wheat from the chaff.

  102. King Eric says:

“well cleverly he could do just the same job has modric but the management staff do not seem to have the guts to play him”

He has been on bloody all season.

  103. willierednut says:

AIG – On talent, i would sign Robben, but the problem is, you never know when his next injury is gonna happen.

  104. rooney the new king says:

has for the midfield all good players but scholes still takes the rest of the midfielders in the united squad to school and he is 35. I would trade in carrick gibson anderson hargreaves for one world class midfielder, because what I am annoyed to death is there is to many midfielders in the united squad, yea they are all very good in their own right, but imagine a dictator in midfield about 25 that can control the tempo and pattern of the united team, like scholes have done for years, like alonzo along with xavi and iniesta do for their clubs, roy keane in his prime, vierra in his arsenal days, all play week in week out not rotated. He is on there every game. Now I would rather that than a bloated squad with too many numbers in midfield who are very inconsistant with their performences, look at 1999 we had 3 midfielders not 10, look at 06/07 season it works better.

  105. rooney the new king says:

King Eric – hello is well, we will have to see but I think there is too many numbers in midfield and upfront and fergie has to get the balance because the squad is too bloated with too many changes each match, and it has made the squad too disjointed he needs to balance and get atleast 9 players who will play most games

  106. willierednut says:

RTNK – You would trade 4 players for 1?

  107. willierednut says:

There is no Keanes about, or for that matter, leaders.

  108. rooney the new king says:

willierednut – I would but obvious it would have to be one of the best, we have seen in 99 and 2007 we won trophys with 3 midfielders and the football was brilliant to watch because the changes were not huge

  109. ji says:

    Hi,

Today I have read an article in the newspaper regarding commercial shooting in Barcelona of a “popular video game”.

Where supposedly was Rooney. It is said that he was asked to perform for two versions of commercial… one in United kit and one… in facist kit…

It is said that the spokesman for the comapny wanted to have backup plan if changes will happen…

Additionally it is stated that the same took place year earlier with Benzema…

    Ihttp://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1410178

I hope this is a big big shit, and done just for kicks.

I know there is no chance Roo would wish to go… but those fucking casg grabing whores Glazers is a different story…

  110. rooney the new king says:

well not like keane but a midfielder who can control the tempo and pattern of the play, obvious alonzo would be perfect but thats fantasy but I think there are too many midfielders in the squad

  111. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ King Eric – “We don not need a defensive midfielder full stop.” You must be joking right? When Fletcher doesn’t play we’re screwed, we’ve been putting our hopes in Hargreaves for 2 years now and no answer. Gibson isn’t a defensive midfielder although we both have agreed he should play more, same goes for Anderson, the guy hadn’t even played there till he joined United. The amount of times teams walk through our midfield is pathetic especially on the basis of this season and I’m sure you don’t want 4-5-1 to continue forever either. We need another one a lot more than a creative midfielder, if we had we wouldn’t have lost half the games we did this year. Carrick isn’t finished at United by any means but he is shit when trying to defend.

  112. phaka SA2010 Red says:

Gerad Pique take a bow son, take a bow…

  113. rooney the new king says:

NotoriousRedDevil – I want uniteds formation to change back to the way it was a couple of years ago where it was a fluent 442 formation I hate the 433 or 451 its not the united way, it is a defensive formation to cover up the pethetic strength of the midfield who cant play a midfield 2.

  114. PHZ says:

    @KingEric
You’ll not win with these “sell, sell, sell, buy, buy. buy” fans, mate ;-)
Sometimes I think, they don’t want to see United on top – they just want to sell and buy – they live in a fantasy world of transer rumours.
Or they live in a fantasy world where ALL 17-years old players are mega-super-stars. If not: SELL THEM!
Gibson not good, Park – bad, blah, blah, blah. But every overpriced piece of shit from MAdrid, BArcelona, Milan or Roma is better, faster, sharper etc, etc.
Grass is always greener in Spain, Italy, Germany, France and Brazil :-)

  115. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ RTNK Chelsea at Home, Bayern Away, Bayern once down to ten men at home, even fucking leads at home were all games we could have done with a defensive midfielder. Like you said we have too many players in the centre that have to play as a 3 but 2 of them can’t defend or tackle to save their lives. Carrick is at the age now where he is not going to be able to change his game, we’re lucky to see 2 tackles from him in a game.

  116. rooney the new king says:

PHZ – what did I say the squad is bloated with too many players and it needs balancing, also united do need a midfielder simple has that and this midfielder could be the key to getting the best out of dimatar berbatov.

NotoriousRedDevil – can you imagine how better off united would be with a midfielder alongside fletcher and with velencia nani rooney berbatov does anyoen else feel that would be a sensational midfield 2 and front 4 with more goals

  117. willierednut says:

    RTNK – Gourcuff?

  118. NotoriousRedDevil says:

    Gourcoff can’t tackle either.

  119. Tom F says:

PHZ – Totally agreed there mate.

  120. willierednut says:

    Gourcoff can’t, Gourcuff can lol.

  121. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ willierednut, you know what I meant

  122. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Fuck it lets just play O’Shea there from now on. Right back position is covered time for O’Shea to be the extra man in midfield.

  123. willierednut says:

    Fulham 1 down.

  124. willierednut says:

NRD – Only pulling your leg mate. You look around Europe and there ain’t that many destroyers about, I’d go for someone like Makoun, or M Sissoko.

  125. MG says:

    @KIng Eric

    Hows it going mate

Well said we don’t need a defensive midfielder

We need a young Paul Scholes scoring goals kinda midfielder : )

I do hope Hargreaves comes roaring back – could have done with him this season big time – it means we wouldn’t really need to spend big on mids – just my opinion

  126. MG says:

Pogba looks brilliant btw – what is his exact position ?

  127. willierednut says:

MG – Center midfield, i think.

  128. MG says:

And I hope Anderson comes back bigger and better too – this infatuation with midfielders is a little bit too much – injuries have just hit us and then at the wrong times – thats what we never really had over the last three years – and this year injuries have really fucked up proceedings

  129. MG says:

    willierednut

    cheers mate

looks very good – stick him in I tell ya : )

  130. aig alex is god says:

Great finish by aquilani. if the dippers play like this on Sunday they have a great chance of getting something from Chelsea. wheteher they want to is a different story

  131. Paul Parker says:

    Evening Lads –

Liverpool doing a very good job looking like a half decent Europa League team aye :)

never heard of this Diarra, I think the RM one is waaaaaay over rated.

Anyway, we don’t need a creative midfielder, we have Anderson [waits for outrage...]

He is an amazing talent, He’s just turned 22 this month, Give him time.

AAAH BOLLOCKS !!!!! but theres still plenty time for them to fuck it up

  132. united.george says:

aquilani just scored, pool up 1-0

  133. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ MG Why don’t we need a defensive midfielder enlighten me because its quite obvious to me and the guys I go to games with thats where our weakness is. We’re playing 3 in there and the goals aren’t coming from there and in the big games we let teams come through. Having a goalscorer in there doesn’t disguise the fact that in the big games teams walk through our midfield and you can’t ignore nor deny that.

  134. willierednut says:

    Fook me, Aquaman scored.

  135. GTull says:

tickles me how C5 try and build up the Europe league…

  136. NotoriousRedDevil says:

I’m watching Fulham what a goal by Petric.

  137. aig alex is god says:

    @notorious

totally agree. fletcher is the only who likes to get stuck in. No offence to the others but no one else knows how to tackle well. we dont have a back up for fletcher and that is why he had to play in all the games a couple of months back. he looked jaded at times and understably so.we need goals from the 3rd midfielder who plays with scholes and fletcher. carrick dosent do that often, nor does anderson although i feel he can improve and get into the opposition box more. expect goals from nani in particular next season. After rooney he is the best finisher in the team.

Also its not about having a defensive midfielder,as fletcher is not an out and our defensive midfielder but a box to box midfielder who likes to get stuck in.

  138. redscot says:

On main topic of the thread,I can see pluses and minuses here. This man is 29 so I guess this brings experience and journeyman qualities, he was also a regular starter when Capello was at Madrid, so maybe we are just making Capello, feel welcome lol.The downside of course is the age and the fee(if any) that would be involved, having cost 26 euros from lyon, there is going to be a fee and there in lays the question.
Anyhow the main reason this comes up, is to stimulate interest in him because he will not be performing in the World cup, its just in my opinion agent’s sending out little feelers.
Not unlike the talk of Modric etc etc etc If I have read one name linked to one club or another today /yesterday then I have read and laughed at a hundred. On a serious note lol Its reported Liverfool are preparing a 18 million pound bid for little Carlito.
Its a media people and gossip mongers trying to un nerve each others togetherness in the final few games. Not to be taken seriously.Your doing fine Micheal and I would be amazed if I saw you again in a Lilywhites kit, or anywhere near Shit Hoose Lane.

  139. Paul Parker says:

    MG says:
Pogba looks brilliant btw – what is his exact position ?
    ___________

My point exactly! I saw the video somebody kindly put up earlier today, great finish, looked like a great game too! King played well, few others, n11 looks sharp, our whole acadamy team looks Strong. The more I think about it the more I think Ole should take over from…FUCK OFF I HATE COLLYMORE WHAT A TWAT !!!!!! Great player, once upon a time, but off the pitch? Complete and utter Cunt stick to radio you fucking muppet. There should have been a warning after the advert break ended so viewers like myself had opportunity to change the f-ing channel. CUNT.

  140. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ redscot very balanced argument there, its laughable really how people on here are having a go at Diarras dodgy knees when Hargreaves “isn’t mentally ready” as well as his dodgy knees. Hargreaves is now 28/29 as well and I believe hes finished, either that or he’ll be our version of Ledley King. Its a shame really because I’ve always rated him even when he was at Bayern but it isn’t personal its down to bad luck regarding him. If we can get Diarra for £5 million then we should do it after all we were prepared to pay £7-£8 million for a 29 year old Marcos Senna.

  141. Paul Parker says:

OyOy Redscot – your right about the rumours, altho im thinking law of averages maybe at least one is true? I think Benzema has missed his boat. Great Player, but I’d be surprised if we went back. Don’t see the value of Modric, but I don’t watch spurs much so its possible I missed it. Im climbing the walls waiting for Summer, firstly so I can see all our boys in South Africa and secondly so I can observe Alec in the transfer market. He’s had a poker face since last Summer :) I do believe him when he said there was no value, and I do believe he has whatever funds he wants. I think we’re in for a treat next Season :)

  142. MG says:

    @NotoriousRedDevil

Because defensive mids don’t really score – Fletcher does that job well – Scholes does a deep lying version of it – Hargreaves can do it – Pogba could do it – Anderson can do it – though should be more forward because thats how he started

If anything a goalscoring mid would be nice – I don’t know who that is

    It’s my opinion that’s all

  143. willierednut says:

I’m sorry, but Aguero is way over – priced on this performance, 20 million tops, not a penny more.

  144. tr says:

NO NO NO PLEASE, WE NEED THE OTHER ONE. NOT KIDDING

  145. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Essien, Diarra, Xavi all defensive mdifielders all score goals. When Fletchers out we have no plan B. Peoples enthusiasm regarding Pogba is great but reserve team football and first team football are two different things althogether. If he makes his mark great until then I’m not putting my hopes on a teenager whos yet to make his debut. Anderson seriously needs to pull his finger out his backside and start showing why we paid big money for him he’s been an average midfielder at best when playing defensively and showed little signs of goalscoring when going forwatd, the good thing is age is on his side. Hargreaves won’t be here in 2 years. We have a goalscoring midfielder and his name is Darren Gibson, we need someone to the dirty work and shut teams out because as good as Fletcher is we need a back up plan for when Fletcher is injured especially as we’ve got International Euro Qualifiers next year.

  146. willierednut says:

    Fulham 1 1.

  147. willierednut says:

    2 1 Fulham

  148. MG says:

    @NotoriousRedDevil

Essien Diarra and Xavi do not score any more goals than what I have mentioned to you

If you don’t believe me check it out

Sorry defensive mids have a certain job to do United do not play that game anymore where we have to rely upon one that is best in his position – we already have enough players to compensate for Fletcher – they have to be stand up and counted for and of course injury less would help

  149. GTull says:

    Well done Fulham…

But it’s pool I’m concerned about, i’d rather someone scored a goal, don’t want that going to extra time. Don’t need them being knackered for sunday.

  150. GTull says:

Carragher pulling his usual tricks there

  151. willierednut says:

GTull – What suits United better? Liverpoo in, or out.

  152. GTull says:

    willierednut – That’s a question i’ve been asking myself all day…

Not sure, i’ve Liverpool go through, they’ll be high in spirits come sunday… but maybe Rafa will rest his players.

If they lose, they’ll be low in spirits, but have no reason to rest players…

The worst case scenerio is extra time and then a liverpool defeat.

I don’t mind what happens really, as long as they lose the final :-D

  153. willierednut says:

    Extra time it is.

  154. MG says:

Well done Fulham what a fairytale – they should hold there heads high – big time – well done

  155. 619 says:

Worst possible scenario that I really did not contemplate. Liverpool going to extra time.

  156. willierednut says:

What a job Hodgson has done, very much under – rated manager.

  157. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ MG – The players we have aren’t defensive enough period. They can’t cut it in the big games leaving Fletcher doing the work of 2 which isn’t a good thing in the big games. I totally disagree with your concept because we’re playing 3 players in midfield which leaves a £30 million striker on the bench because 2 players can’t do the job in the centre of the park. Whilst the midfield should contribute with more goals thats not what they’re paid to, they are supposed to create chances and disrupt play in the centre of the park. Create chance they do, disrupt play they most certainly do not. How anyone can have faith in Hargreaves after 2 years out and coming into the last year of his contract beggars belief, I hope I’m wrong but I’m willing to put money to say he won’t play 20 games next year. Carrick is just a quarterback who needs someone by him to do the donkey work for him and disappears when the going gets tough, Bayern and Barcelona anyone? Nanis scoring goals again so theres an avenue that wasn’t here at the start of the season and I expect Valencia to get more too. As for the guys I’ve mentioned they score more goals than Fletcher whos our most recognisable defensive midfileder. We don’t need a player that has to stay back all the time but we need someone who has the attributes that can do so. Currently in our squad we only have one fit person. Anderson is not going to step up into that position he’s attacking by nature and it shows.

  158. united.george says:

well done fulham – hope those guys get their fairytale ending come may!

  167. united.george says:

KUYT lulz, been watching some busquets cheating for dummies videos there

  170. MG says:

    @NotoriousRedDevil

    I respect your comments;

However the point is this – out of the four goals Bayern scored against us – one was lucky – 2 were United mistakes – defensive errors – 1 was from a corner kick – player unmarked

You don’t need a def mid for that – add the sending off which was wrong in my opinion because let’s be honest Van Bommel also should have walked for all of his countless challenges – we were very unfortunate to loose that game

Now coming back to that 30 million striker of ours

Well the truth is I just don’t get why SAF paid that much for one player and then not play him – he still is a brilliant player – at least you can’t question his loyalty

As for Barca – well we beat them when we won the CL – it’s a shame that the real United never turmed up after they scored in last years final – we were blowing them away all be it we didnt score in the first 10 min

Again would a def mid have helped United when the defenders were out?

Would he have helped stop Drogba’s illegal offside goal?

Would the ref have not given a free kick if it was someone else other than Fletcher in the first Chelsea game?

Would he have scored a penalty against Burnley when Carrick missed?

These are just a few examples of what he could not have done – again if he was an attacking mid with a goal record of 20 plus a season I would not argue with you at all – I’m not arguing with you here either – in my opinion we just do not need what you are asking for

And it’s been a shame about Hargreaves – I still hope he comes back – he is the best in his position and we all know it

  171. Gandalf says:

Woah there Diego…. god, I no longer know what I want in this match!

Liverpool out is always good news, but is it in this circumstance.argh, who can look into the future??

  172. redscot says:

@ Notorious Red @ Paul, parker cheers mates for replies I was blogging elsewhere, properly tommorow to your points just enjoying the demise. I will respond Aint it great Pool at the brink and almost there and Diego steps up, shame he took 8 games before he did it for us, lol.
Chuffed as fuck for Fulham a great wee club

  173. Paul Parker says:

Perfect Final. Great for us before Chelsea :) Well taken goal might I add, that Israeli fella ain’t half bad in these situations for his team. Thats what we need coming from midfield, that consistent threat. Benayoun is a consistant cunt is he not? lol thats all we need mate, so if Nani and Valencia step up even further, which of course they will, all will be well from midfield next year. We’ll be stretching every team from either side, and im sure I’ve seen them switch flanks on the break at least once this year ;) All is well, who else in Europe has similar wide players emerging simultaneously aye ??? Tell me that Pal !!

  174. redscot says:

@ Paul it is perfect, the Cunts need something to play for now on SUNDAY. you make me laugh, just funny as fuck.

  175. lawman10 says:

not sure if want livershite out, we need them on a high

  176. Costas says:

First off, I am very happy for Fulham. Roy Hodgson has done an amazing job. Lets be honest. At the beginning of 2010, if anyone told us that Fulham would be the English team that would go the furthest in the European competitions, we would have laughed our asses off.

Hope Pool are out. They’ll have something to play for vs the Rentboys and…well they wont win anything this season :D

  178. Costas says:

As far as Liverpool, I am happy that Diego made them cry again, but the big winners tonight are Chelsea.

This team is physically and emotionally empty. How will they put up a fight in 2 and a half days?

  179. redscot says:

@ Lawman out mate thats a cert, they need 4th and the possibility , slim i think, but slippery slope for them.Dont let let them get near a cup, you know as well as I me thats why they hang onto FSW, 1 Cl and another final. Mind this is a double edged sword.

  180. willierednut says:

    Diego makes them cry again.

  181. tr says:

don’t be sad dippers, you can try again next season.

  182. redscot says:

roflmao, how the mighty have fallen, over to you on Sunday have you got the balls. I think they do, bit thats me. positive spin and all that fengshui, shit.

  183. Gandalf says:

Forlan breaks liverpool’s hearts again ha ha.

Oh the quandary of what this will do to liverpool vs chelsea! Atleast they should draw, please.

  184. hurr says:

Ouch. Does that mean both their season and ours over?

  185. united.george says:

just how dumb can FSW be? he takes off the goalscorers, aquilani and benayoun and replaces them with 2 crappy players…..then Forlan makes him pay!

with our luck, gerrard and kuyt will end up sitting out the weekend game….

you have to admit though, forlan is the happiest athletico player, tell me he does not still hate the scouse!

  186. Costas says:

Well they are out now. I bet that a pointless game against Chelsea is the last thing on their minds now…

Sorry, but I can’t see them challenging for 4th spot. They are too far away.

  187. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Well now the dippers are out AET, watch them roll over and die on Sunday. Chelski to win 5-1.

  188. willierednut says:

Costas – Start praying lol. best quote of the night, the ex premier flop, knocks out a premier league team lolol.

  189. lawman10 says:

@redscot I agree with every thing you have said……………………..I hope, I pray that they can give it a go on suday, after that fuck the bastards.
thats channel switched of in my house no way will I listen to that cunt collymore!!!!

  190. tr says:

The dippers could crown their season even with a draw against the chavs, so they could lose their record and been eliminated from EL within one week!

Hard to be a scouse nowadays. i dont mind :D

  191. Costas says:

    @willierednut

Lol, not even our prayers are enough now. A part of me thinks that they will put up a fight on Sunday because it’s their last home game and they will want to give their fans something positive. On the other hand, this has been their worst season as long as I can remember. Can you imagine if they help us win the 19th title?

Ah, Diego. Makes you wonder what a Rooney-Forlan partnership would have looked like. :(

  192. NotoriousRedDevil says:

This is Liverpools year. Honest to good it is!

  193. rooney the new king says:

well it suits the chelsea pentioners since liverpool will not have the legs to overun chelsea’s aging and static midfield cheers god and karma

  194. Paul Parker says:

Oy redscot I spoke too soon Pal I thought Stanley had it hahaha had it on mute boring as fuck
its even better for Saturday they HAVE to win it now just to salvage some fucking Pride hahaha
they started thinking about “resting players” for the Final I bet but then they somehow managed to piss it aaaall up the wall… at home. hahha jesus, didn’t even see the goal I hope it was a right ole cock up.
no auto Europe for Liverpool aye? lets see if Stevie Barely Legal G’s got bottle to fight for Fourth.

    COME ON YOU CUNTS !!!!!!

  195. Giles Oakley says:

Well, forget all the calculations about what effect Liverpool’s result tonight would have on the Chelsea match and just celebrate their further slide into mediocrity. I’m absolutely delighted for Fulham and especially their fans. It’s not often they can say they are a better team than Liverpool in Europe, now is it? Another season for the dippers with no trophy, so let’s all laugh, let’s all jeer, let’s all cheer. There’s no way of knowing how the dippers will respond on Sunday, but there was no way of knowing if they’d won tonight either. Personally I don’t think there was ever a chance they’ll go flat out to help United – as a team. The only hope is that individual Liverpool players feel insecure about their own future, with or possibly without Rafa, and maybe that’ll motivate them to put on a display as a proverbial ‘Come and Get Me Plea’ to almost anyone. Most of them with no particular loyalty to Merseyside must be desperate to get out of that hell-hole so they can have more of a chance to win some medals. Let’s hope Gerrard fancies showing Chelsea that it’s worth one more try to prise him away from disgrace and failure. A big egotistic show to prove he’s more important to England than Lampard might also make a difference. I’m clutching at straws I know, but what the hell, let’s have one more rousing chorus of ,’Diego, Diego!’.

  196. united.george says:

FSW, the god of self destruction.

I dont think he will play some of the main players since they will develop “injuries” tomorrow…Kuyt sprained his hair when he dived earlier, benayoun has a torn shirt and will be out 2 weeks, gerrard has a lamaze class and aquilani lost his hairband somewhere in the locker room and wont play without it.

anyway, today is today, and happy to see liverpool out!

if today is an indication how they play when they are playing for something, I can only grimace at how they will be when they have nothing to play for.

  197. Costas says:

Glad to see that Diego still takes his shirt off after he scores. I am straight by the way. :D

I’ve followed English football for 15 years. I’ve never seen a Liverpool team fuck up on so many fronts. Hell they weren’t so bad with Roy Evans in charge!

  198. Che Guevarist says:

    @ Giles Oakley

Exactly the way I feel. Moreover, the Pool fans were taking the piss so much when we went out of the CL against Bayern ,I feel even more entitled to laugh and jeer now.

  199. rooney the new king says:

Giles Oakley – I will be happy until liverpool do us a favour this weekend and we win the league then I will be happy seeing how bad the scousers are, but I am a liverpool fan for the week I am liverunited for the week

  200. willierednut says:

Costas – A Rooney, Forlan partnership would have been interesting combination, but alas we won’t ever get to see it.

  201. rooney the new king says:

willierednut – yes but at the time we had rooney van nistlerooy patnership, then the rooney saha patnership, so by the time forlan would have been given the chance he may have been worse off. Forlan went at the right time because we would soon enough win a ton of trophys. Forlan and united were not made for each other

  202. willierednut says:

I also think Forlan put Aguero in the shade tonight, not impressed with the latter at all.

  203. Paul Parker says:

    redscot says:
roflmao, how the mighty have fallen, over to you on Sunday have you got the balls. I think they do, bit thats me. positive spin and all that fengshui, shit.

lol just saw this, exactly mate! they need to light some incense and restore some fucking equilibrium its all gone to shit this year at Anfied speak of which

    NotoriousRedDevil says:
This is Liverpools year. Honest to good it is!

    hahahaha, fucking classic

    COME ON YOU CUNTS !!!!

  204. redscot says:

@ The lawman, see like you mate, I am a believer, just dont give in, dont listen to that cunt Collymoron, he plays too the thought of the day and the sway of opinion, if the cunt was real he would not have risked himself on Talkshite, can you see the dangers of crack cocaine and playing for Villa and Pool and Forest, it will get you sooner or later.Lets not mention sexual appitites.
Do you hear me????? I have heard you on here before the passion in your posts.
Come on you Reds around the World shout were ever you may be, home pub OT, car, having a shite through fear. We will do this. Its just in my system and its gonna be fucking great.
Off to the pubs with a few mates, told there is a few pints in the barrel.
Come on you reds, just fucking trust the boys and ladyluck, we are due our share. Addios

  205. willierednut says:

Pass the spliff, the goings good tonight. peace out

  206. vidic will get ya 15 says:

come on liverpool, yuk i just cant do it, goin washing my mouth out with bleech

  207. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

Come oN Dippers chin up regroup and take your loss out on whoever it is your playing next , anyone know there fixtures ?? Anyway fulham congrates. They started at the shit bottom of the league and have played from bottom all the way upro one step from the top. Excellent fans excellent manager shame about Murphy been a wank ball but gotta love duff . Ever Manchester united fan should support Duff.

  208. rooney the new king says:

vidic will get ya 15 – well I am one of these PPL when I want something that bad I would even sell my soul to the devil himself to get it, backing liverpool is like one of those occasions if it means winning the league title for the 4th time in a row and seeing ferry and co cry again then show me the gates of hell

  209. vidic will get ya 15 says:

    rtnk
i no mate, it just dont feel right, i hope its a draw, im lucky enough to have a ticket on sunday so i really hope the league is still on by the time we ko,
    on the topic of bleech
dirk kuyt- so ugly even cilit wouldn’t bang him
sorry i heard that today and it amused me haha

  210. NotoriousRedDevil says:

GHTT – Why Duff? He went to the rent boys for money?

  211. vidic will get ya 15 says:

    notoriousreddevil
he went newcastle and fulham for football

  212. rooney the new king says:

NotoriousRedDevil – well lets be honnest the club who ever has been incharge of united have always been penny pinching, from the edward days to the parasite era we have now the clubs fatcats have always expected the club to win on the cheap, look at the spending power since the premiership was founded in 1992 we do not even make the top 5

  213. bigphil2003 says:

If Fulham win the europa league and liverpool finish 7th… does that mean they don’t get into europe next year? That gives them something to fight for!
Either way, we’re not out of it til we’re out of it!

  214. Paul Parker says:

    Aye redscot, Aye Indeed Pal.

Indeed Willierednut. All is good indeed. lol.

Still think Chelsea will drop points mind you fellas. You know its at Anfield and the Chelsea Cunts/Boys will be well up for it im sure. The Chelsea “Fans” I mean, not their shakey without Essien overpaid players. Liverpool can’t and won’t bottle it once that whistle blows, the KOP won’t let em. Maybe against another team but not Chelsea those cunts are insufferable I’ll give them that lol cocky bastards.

    Peace out indeed ROM.

  215. rooney the new king says:

Paul Parker – no the problem is anfields power is how loud the crowd is, if its quiet and it feels open with a nice sunny day then chelsea will win and without fernando torres they are fucked.

  216. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Just seen Rafas post match interview he’s not going to be here next season by the sound of things :-(

  217. Doghouse says:

Whatever happens to the title this season lads, rest assured, it could be worse, we could be scouse.

As for all the conjecture about the state of the Liverpool team against Chelsea- look at the state of them tonight. They’re fucking terrible, with a rested team in a pivotal game they were crap. I doubt we’d be able to even notice if they did roll over. It was, as it has been since we shat the bed against Blackburn, Chelsea’s to lose.

  218. veek says:

i wonder, if fulham win the europa league, does that mean the 7th spot no longer gets to go to europe? because that could prove to spur liverpool on to win.

  219. Fred says:

That Forlan lad looks a prospect…

  220. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ veek & bigphil2003 – Thats what I thought but its not the case, 5,6 & 7 got to the league as normal due to United winning the Carling Cup and Portsmouth not allowed in via the Fa Cup and theres already the one place for the league. If Fulham win this system stays in place and Fulham get into the Europa League more explained on this link just scroll down a bit

    http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,25212,12038_6119957,00.html

  221. bigphil2003 says:

Cheers for that NotoriousRedDevil… even if it ain’t quite the news i wanted to hear! lol

  222. Tony Starks says:

whats the point in buying anyone? we should just stand still and hope our opponents somehow get worse while our squad continues to age!… sorry mini rant…

anyway I would be delighted if we didn’t sign any big player for the next five years if somehow in exchange for that we could be debt free!

NB I don’t really like Gibson but you can’t doubt that he could do a job for us as part of a 3-man midfield (like the Bayern game before it fell apart…)

  223. r8devil says:

    Ji,

I think the whole issue of Rooney in the white of the fascists is all BS. The spanish media or the fascists are just trying to stir things. The world cup is round the corner and white is also England’s colour and Utd’s 2nd colour next season so they could just be filming him in white for the world cup in case england wins.

As for those that say that United academy doesnt produce enough. Compared to any other so called big team, United’s academy produces one of the most players playing in the premier league. Maybe only arsenal can compare to us. Fergie needs to balance producing a team capable of winning and producing good young players and I think he has got the balance right. I dont want to be arsenal where they produce lots of young players and play almost all of them and win nothing for years. You can never compare any year with the one where becks, scholes, nevilles and butt came through. That is like striking gold and that rarely happens. To get one or 2 every few years good enough for the 1st team is a good enough return. We have Fletch & Evans relatively recently. We just need to give the rest time to develop. Gibson is still young at 22. Most had wrote Fletch off at that age and look at him now.

    In Fergie we trust.

  224. loughie21 says:

what hasn’t been mentioned (that i’ve seen) is Everton are only 5 points behind Liverpool. If Liverpool drop to 8th they don’t even get Europa League football next season. They need to get points from one of the last two games. Liverpool will come out and fight against Chelsea because number one they are delusional enough to think they can get fourth and number two, in the back of their mind they will want to make sure they don’t lose seventh!

  225. Moscow Delight says:

Liverpool are out of the Europa Mickey Mouse Cup as well….. Liv 21- Ath. Madrid…. Diego Forlan scored today’s crucial away goal…. watch the video here amazin celebration in front of the KOP

    http://www.manutd24.com/ex-reds-and-legends/video-diego-forlans-goal-that-put-liverpool-out-of-europa-league-liverpool-2-1-atletico-madrid/

  226. Canadian Red Devil says:

I agree with Loughie21, it is too risky for the Scousers to throw the game against Chelsea and assume they will secure 7th place by beating Hull. The way the Scousers have performed this season, who could honestly rule out the possibility of Hull getting a shock result against them?

It’s also looking increasingly like Sunday will be the last ever time Benitez manages Liverpool at Anfield. Hopefully he’ll want to bow out with a win.

  227. Dense@Hubpages says:

    @Moscow Delight
    Thanks for the video!
    Cheers! :)

  228. aig alex is god says:

Well done fulham, deserved it. Hodgson has done a great job, from relegation threatened club to a major european final.

As for the dippers, well what can you say. Played well, should have gone through and again they bottle it up late in the game. The extra time means their legs will have taken a beating. Dont be surprised to see pacheo, el zhar, kyriagos, spearing, plessis in that line up on Sunday. now rafa and liverpool have a great excuse. Anyways with relegated hull in their final game, they will get the point they need to be in europe. Just hope spurs get 4th and not city.

  229. arijc says:

This is the best transfer rumor thus far…
    http://www.caughtoffside.com/2010/04/30/manchester-united-may-consider-cheeky-move-for-32m-manchester-city-ace-robinho/?

Quality player who initially thought that he was coming to United when he signed for our neighbors. So he should be motivated to play for us. And we can put up a poster welcoming him to Manchester :)

  230. aig alex is god says:

    @arijc

wont happen mate. he is still a man city player on loan to Santos and they wont sell him to us. Even if we want to sign him we cant cough up 25 odd million now. Expect more players in the free agents, cut price deals and javier hernandez type signings now.

  231. arijc says:

    @aig
I wasn’t suggesting that this would definitely happen. But I don’t subscribe to the view that we are incapable of making a significant big money buy this summer.

  232. Costas says:

Thanks arijc. Lol, Robinho. I’d prefer it if we gave Tosic a chance. Don’t think Robinho is a bad player, but he is not cut out for the Premiership.

  233. aig alex is god says:

    @arjic

we wont mate. SAF has constantly gone on about ‘value for money’ and he is right. Now if a big name comes up city, real madrid and chelsea will be interested in him and we can safely assume they will comprehensively outbid us.The only exception is if the player is hell bent on joining United which is a rare case scenario. Most top footballers are attracted by the money and will rather move to madrid or chelsea

  234. stretfordender says:

This should not even be a debate, those who watched European football and saw Diarra in the French leagues, know we moved for him before, however he went to Madrid and faltered…when will players learn. Fuck Diarra. And Fuck Madrid.

  235. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    @NotoriousRedDevil
Don’t boo Damian Duff, a United fan who held out before signing for Chelsea until Fergie confirmed we couldn’t match his £17 million fee. He later turned down Liverpool to sign for Newcastle because ‘his heart told him so’. Same rules apply to Morten Gamst Pederson, also a United fan and a paid up member of the Scandinavian supporters club before signing for Blackburn.

  236. aig alex is god says:

reading some gossip today we are being linked with lassana diarra now, WTF??

  237. theboogeyman says:

GHTT- I didn’t know that about Pedersen. He could have shown us that by not scoring the 2 goals he scored at OT when they beat us 2-1 some seasons back.

aig- Silly season is well and truly on now!

  238. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

I don’t know about you guys, but I do see Sir Alex moving in for some signings if the Glazers don’t tie his arms too hard.

Gary Cahill looks fine if Vidic were to leave, Milner will be a good choice to replace the aging knights that have served us so well over the last couple of years. They also fit the criteria of being relatively young.

  239. Costas says:

Wayne was also voted Writers’ player of the year. I hope Sir Alex will have some good news about him today. Heard he could make the Sunderland game.

  240. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

funny highlights of liverpools match last night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4YJvJaUQjI

  241. Costas says:

    @GHTT

Ha, Diego deserved an Emily chant. ;)

But, Diego wasn’t always about scoring crackers, was he?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJBgN-0SvUI&feature=related

  242. Costas says:

Oh and he didn’t always take off his shirt succesfully:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s_oJaFXVrE&feature=related

  243. aig alex is god says:

Well done wayne. he got over 81 percent of the votes in the voting FWA player of the year award. great achievement. Hope he continues his rapid development in the years to come.

  244. King Eric says:

NRD – Xavi and Diarra are “goal scorers”. Are you sure about that mate?

  245. King Eric says:

gotta hate – Are Duff and Pederson United fans? I didn’t know that mate.

  246. Calvo says:

In all fairness we are entering into “silly season”.
But truth is we need to seriously look at our midfield as we have too many players who do the same thing.
So if getting a Yaya Toure/Lass/ Inler/ or a sound defensive midfielder then so be it, becoz unless Hargreaves comes back and shows signs that he is over his injuries then a defensive midfielder is MUST! With a bit of stature and pace added to the middle aswell.
Equally so is a attacking/ball retaining midfielder in the mould of Modric / Sniejder etc.
Then get a forward to play alongside rooney.

For me question marks remain over the following:
Brown( good squad man but injuries are a concern and with De Laet and corry evans coming through could be sold to say , Newcastle)
    Vidic
    Carrick
    Berbatov
And i am slightly concerned abt Evra, i know he loves the club but its the Glazers who could say that he can go for 20/25 million, with Vidic aswell for the same price therefore not needing to sell Rooney.
In there place I would hope to see:

    Vargas/Lahm(should Evra be sold)
    Kjaer/Subotic
    VdV/Gourcuff/Hamsik
    Benzema

With a defensive midfielder coming in aswell and my top choice would be Yaya.
I would be reluctant to sell tosic as he has looked a neat player with ability.
Having said all of that it really comes down to whether the Glazers give the Fergie money.
And in fairness we didnt make the most of the Ronaldo transfer in the sense that we could have got Sneijder and Robben plus 40/50 mil thrown in!

  247. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ King Eric – Diarras goal at OT for Lyon? Xavi can get you a goal when you need it we don’t have anyone in our team that does that in midfield bar Scholsey. We shouldn’t be relying on the old guard although its good to have at the same time its pathetic.

  248. King Eric says:

Notorious – Thats just it though mate. Xavi rarely scores. Think he has one in the last 12 months or so.

  249. King Eric says:

Calvo – Brown won’t be going anywhere . By your reckoning we are completely changing the team. The players you mentioned if they come in will make us unrecognisable. Its all about attitude and mentality. Why do you think Fergie loves Sheasy, Park etc?

  250. King Eric says:

Notorious – I don’t subscribe to that “we shouldn’t be relying on the old guard”. Why not mate? When they are still producing top drawer displays. Play them and enjoy them while they are still here.

  251. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Of course I still enjoy it King Eric, just that its not going to last forever. The younger ones need to get us out of a jam more because if we wait till the old boys retire without the young ones getting us last minute goals, it all seems a bit risky to me.

  252. StatesideAussie says:

I am not overjoyed with Gibson. He seems to be where Nani was six months or so ago … he has one party trick that looks good when it works but most of the time doesn’t work. Trouble is, it works just often enough so that he keeps using it. In Nani’s case, that used to be “cut inside, run across the edge of the box, and have a shot”. In Gibson’s case, it is “have a shot from way outside the box”. Nani learned to leave it out, try something else, and is a much better player because of it. That’s when he turned the corner. Gibson needs to do the same.

But still, I don’t see the point in buying some 29yo reject from Real (or anywhere else). For the midfield, I am hoping Anderson can come back and take that next step up, like Nani did. If he does, and we have Fletcher and Hargo comes back too, then I don’t see any big problems. Those three, with support from Giggs, Scholes and Park, would do me, so long as they’re firing on all cylinders. Park isn’t everyone’s favorite, but he has his uses; good squad player, worth keeping. Carrick is the one who worries me most. Did not have a good year.

  253. redscot says:

@ StateSideAussie, Cmon mate we have to support and encourage the younger players.I am new to this blog but i am sure on here Darren was being giving a horrendous press on here and in the media a few years back and look what we have now.Darron will be no different if we as fans get behind the players and shout our support. It will happen mate he will learn from the like of Owen and Paul and of course Fletch, he is young and i would agree a bit petulant in his choices when to pass to shoot.
Well said about rejects, just depends on the price eh? lol
Anderson is wishfull thinking but we stay positive eh.I like 3lungs I personally appreciate in the right games he can turn the match, a powerhouse of work and gets the defence on the back foot, closes down like a ballistic Chinese man robbed of his prawn fried rice. Micheal is fine mate, forget that he did fuck up in the Bayern game home and away, i personally think and believe its called ring rusty, he is a United player through and through.
Hope You Catch the Match On Monday ( your time) jays thats wierd eh. Now mind mate, shout so we can hear you .

  254. Tom F says:

I am unsure where all the negativity surrounding Darren Gibson comes from. It seems that most fans not only dream of a team full of Wayne Rooney’s but also thinks it’s actually possible to have one.

The average player will peak at around 27-28 years old, Gibson is still very young when you look at the top players in his position now so it’s laughable to see him getting called ‘semi-old’. He has done very little to make me think he isn’t any good and learning from the best players around is only going to mean he’ll improve rapidly over the next 2 seasons. It’s a shame that fans of football have the belief that if you aren’t world class at the age of 20, you have no hope. Well, it seems that way when your support are so negative.

Look at all of the top midfield players in the league, at 22 most of them weren’t playing on the big stage and scoring great goals as well as some important ones. So give him a break.

Another thing I am against, is any stick Owen Hargreaves gets. It’s fair to say he’s not reliable at the moment, though he has had the odd glimmer of hope here and there and on a few occaisons has been pencilled in. I think a pre-season without injury will do him the world of good and if he gets back to his best, we will not need to buy a ball winning, defensive midfielder. Hargreaves is the closest we’ve had to a Roy Keane type player since he left under that cloud of controversy.

  255. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Tom F – I see where you’re coming from about Hargreaves but I have no faith in the guy any more. I would absolutely love to be proved wrong but I doubt he’ll be the same player. Time will tell but thats a phrase I’ve repeated several times in the last 2 years. People slate Gibson because they have no patience and the majority of them slate Foster as well. So many keepers have screwed up big time to make it back into the limelight. His time isn’t up yet, calling him to be sold is just reading off the tabloids again without putting in any thought for yourself. One of the posters on here had him on fault for Robbie Blakes goal at Burnley which was quite frankly a rocket. Seem to be too many of these guys on here.
