Rio Ferdinand came back in to the Manchester United first team after missing the first four games of the season with a calf injury.
With less than a minute played, Rio was watching Jermaine Defoe score a cracking goal to put us 1-0 behind.
“It was a bit of a wake-up call, it hits home the fact you’re back playing in the first team again,” he added. “But we responded in the right manner, getting the ball down and playing some of our best football this season.”
Ferdinand has admitted he’s had a hard time watching the matches instead of playing, so is relieved to be back fighting fit.
“When you’re out injured it’s never good to sit and watch in the stands or be restless at home while the lads are playing,” said Rio. “So it’s great to be involved in the squad again.”

played well against that giraffe crouch
should be able to handle bellamy and co at the weekend too
hopefully knock them around a bit if were lucky!
Great to have our defensive pairing back again. We will need them for Tuesday and next Sunday.
I thought our defences were too lackadaisical at first, with half hearted clearance and poor positioning. Maybe Vidic was too tired after the international game, and Rio with his first game. But slowly they took control of the game. Marvellous
I thought he was great.
Need clean sheets, Rio! That must start today. was surprised to see O’shea but good he’s fit. Go Reds, keep awake and don’t sleep again.
