Rio Ferdinand Back In England Squad

Rio Ferdinand has been selected to play for England again, after Roy Hodgson picked the likes of Phil Jones and Martin Kelly ahead of him for the Euros last summer.

Chris Smalling, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck are also in the squad which will face San Marino and Montenegro.

Rio should’ve retired after the Euros snub… I’m sure he’s been recalled for footballing reasons since Terry retired!!!

    please god name me first

CAN’T STOP LAUGHING AT WOY – WILL HE ADMIT HE WAS WRONG? FAT CHANCE…PARDON THE PUN

scott you forget ashley young, 7 reds. united>ingerland

  5. Rd5454 says:

Fxxk pls all 7 reds retire from England

  6. bugzy_red says:

Dont think his form now is any different to when he was left out for ” footballing reasons “. Idiots at FA know they made a mistake in prioritising keeping Terry over Rio.
Glad he is back in the fold, although hope it doesnt impact on his Utd form.

  7. Goat Peticoat says:

Whats the point. Why would you reserrect a 30+ year olds career in international football when your trying to rebuild a squad good enough to compete years and years down the line.
Well done Rio if thats what you want, personally I wont watch the garbage anyways so what does it matter what he does in his spare time.
Just goes to show that the slightest bit of pressure and the Englishmen listens to the press. This is why England will never win the world cup ever again. Im 37, born 9 years after our only win and Im 100% sure I will never witness a world cup win in my lifetime. Why because the English are cowardly faggits with a megaphone telling the world they are tough and have a winning mentality. Probably use the same megaphone the yanks use to try and convince the world they are the land of the free.

  8. red joey says:

” Probably use the same megaphone the yanks use to try and convince the world they are the land of the free”. that was fuckin hillarious goat.

  9. Goat Peticoat says:

More often than not the truth is funny, lol.

  10. Daniel88 says:

    More internationals … fucking hell.

  11. yustaq says:

He was called back for footbaling reason.
Don’t know what Rio still want from england squad again…
Anyway, good for him… Hope it won’t affect us.
It will be the same shit story after all

  12. trishleeunited says:

Hope he’s got the balls to say thanks, but no thanks. In fact wish they all would

  13. ididnotzeeit says:

Wish he would tell those useless mugs to fuck off but it won’t happen.

Hoping the pitiful account that is the EMNT does not cost us any players in the run in. I can just see some hack wiping out Carrick’s ankle with some horror challenge in a useless game but I’ll stay glass half full.

  14. AlphaRS says:

After the way Roy Hodgson has treated Rio I’m surprised he doesn’t tell him to fcuk off. From dropping him as England Captain, to dropping him from the England set up because his brother was racially abused, to telling commuters on the London Underground Rio had no England future.
Get some self respect Rio and tell him to stick it where the sun don’t shine…!

  15. Andromeda says:

Its not a brainer to pick him up after his brilliant form all the season, but damn thats definitely not a good news for me.the man is on the verge of his career and Fergie was lately taking a good care of him in term of his preemptive team selection.holy crap, this happy return could be spoilt by a relapse of his back injury.anyway good luck Ferdy.

  16. United till I die says:

If Rio likes being treated like shit time and again yet continues to go back for more we should have no sympathy for him when he gets dumped again.

Reds from all over the world came to his defense when he was treated like shit by England numerous times yet once again he go crawling back for more. Sorry Rio I don’t care how you play for England as far as I’m concerned your only priority at this point should be winning the title back.

  17. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

Has he accepted? He should tell Roy to stuff it. Firstly for being fucked around before and two to make sure he’s in good shape for United. Unfortuantely Rio loves England and has a bit of an ego so he’ll certainly be taking up the offer.

  18. ididnotzeeit says:

@ Bobby Charlton – I hope he hasn’t, lord help me I hope he doesn’t.

I’ve got to say it, only reason I see Rio playing for England again is his other business ventures and the subsequent need for global brand recognition. I can just hear his business development manager whispering, suck it up pally, do you know how much more exposure we get with you playing for England? I want to give benefit of a doubt here but that’s the only way I can see a supposedly proud man accepting “footballing reasons” are what kept him out of a team he surely should have been in.

Fuck England Rio, just once mate, tell them where to go

  19. FletchTHEMAN says:

England, what a completely dis functional organization.

Wouldn’t have a clue if it was in their pocket.

    Good luck to england.

7 United lads plus Ben Foster! Nice!

    Defenders: Rio , Chris Smalling,
Midfielders: Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young.
    Forwards: Wayne Rooney, Daniel Welbeck.

  20. Goat Peticoat says:

Rio saying no thanks wont happen as whoever sponsors him probably has some clause in his contract saying if offered and England place you have to take it or vice versa. Personally I would rather spoon spoonfulls of rice doused in kerosine up my arse and ignite it than play with that cunt Gerrard.

  21. Andromeda says:

The problem, Rio is too much fond of England.personally I can’t see him refusing the call although it will be an either/or situation for him, its only a matter of thinking like a mature person.not sure how those fuckers would treat him next if England fails.

  22. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

I’d say you’re right. Rio’s business ventures will mean he says yes. The fact that it’s public news is becuase woy and Rio have discussed it in private and Rio told him he’d accept so woy wouldn’t look stupid. Again. Imagine how stupid they would look if Rio turned them down publicly?

  23. FletchTHEMAN says:

No way will Rio turn it down.
Roy must have had a frank discussion with Rio and the two must have reconciled.

If not, then Roy is a completely gutless tool and deserves whatever he gets.

  24. red joey says:

hahahaha goat u are fuckin cracking me up this day man!!

  25. King Eric says:

Goat cracks me up everyday. Funny shit.

  26. Costas says:

I guess you could say his persistence (and brilliant form) have paid of. But I am not entirely happy that he’ll be in the England squad before the 2 crucial games against Sunderland and Chelsea. His exile from the England team finally helped him stay fit long term. Now he’s really pushing his limits again.

  27. WeAreUnited says:

I didn’t watch the Tottenham game, but it made me think,

What do you guys say, should away goals apply when games go to extra time, because the extra 30 minutes are only played in the second leg.

  28. Redneck says:

If Rio had been selected for the England Euro squad and had not featured in any games, then that would have been a big enough snub by woy. That fact he was completely cast aside for a major tournament (for football reasons of course) with seemingly now way back, was humiliating and very badly handled. Surely Rio is just been used by woy for a handful of games and will probably be overlooked again for the World Cup. If Rio excepts that this may be the case and is happy with it then so be it. I wish Rio would tell Woy to go fuck himself but I doubt it. United > England.

  29. denton davey says:

AlphaRS @ 17:29: “Get some self respect Rio and tell him to stick it where the sun don’t shine…!”

    right on !

  30. FletchTHEMAN says:

I don’t think any of you lads can underestimate Rio’s interest in breaking 100 caps for England.
The fact that Ash Cole did it and the Terry have done it, is a piss take to Rio.
I feel it is well beyond him at 34yo with 81 caps. But then, everyone would have said the same about Becks at one stage.

This type of legacy simply takes tenacity. If Rio still has the stomach for it, then I won’t begrudge him.
He certainly has won my respect for coming back to United after load of injuries.
Feel he has more chance of outlasting Roy Hodgson on England duty than he does of outlasting Fergie at United. Just saying.

  31. theradlegion says:

Rio is stupidly naive. He will be again dumped once Roy gets his regulars back.

  32. evisu says:

Rio for some reason loves playing for England. He won’t turn it down. Still don’t get it why England keep hanging on the old guys all the time, isn’t time for the younger ones to take over? But i can understand Roy, Rio has been very good this season.

  33. Rd5454 says:

If I’m the coach I did also choose wilf and becks

  34. denton davey says:

Another UTD player who should tell his national team coach to stick it where the sun don’t shine:

    http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11667/8564760/France-coach-Didier-Deschamps-will-not-hand-captaincy-to-Patrice-Evra

  35. Jorge Curioso says:

My guess is that the FA forced Hodgson’s hand. They have a (recent, even) history of meddling in the manager’s business (ask Capello), and this is a political hot issue.

IMHO, Ferdinand does not deserve to be in the England side because of his poor behaviour and for putting himself above the team. Terry was the better center half, when fit, and Hodgson was right to exclude a divisive and selfish Ferdinand. The FA has stepped in it, again.

Personally, I wish he hadn’t been called. Just what we need is for him to get crocked in some meaningless match against San Marino. Hope he doesn’t get off the bench.

  36. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

@Fletch – Beckham got to 100 caps because of his public profile and not his football ability towards the end of his England career and a lot of the caps were ‘pity’ caps.
It’s certainly not the same with Rio as he’s been excellent the last couple fo seasons but I home he won’t get crocked playing away to kahzarbachsteinonia on a bumpy carpark with drunken shirtless hoodlums calling him rascist names.

  37. Passmaster 16 says:

Rio deserves a call up.. He has been our rock at the back. I wish all goes well with him that he doesnt get injured..”

  38. Red4ever says:

Fuck off roy hogdeson fillthy piece of cunt I don’t care about england if rio gets injured or benched I will fuck that stupid guy ,,,,,

this shows how stupid the FA really is appointing a no one man as a national team coach is stupid decicion that guy is a shit coach never was a world class so who cares about him ehh ?

We are united we should think about our season ahead ,,i think the nani red card has affected us very much and in that match against chelski after nani got injured again we sufferd hope we can bounce back against reading

  39. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

    @WeAreUnited

The away goals rule is a joke. A goal is a goal is a fucking goal and I hate to see teams being knocked out for drawing games particularly high-scoring draws. Why should inter be knocked out after putting 4 past Spurs and killing them last night when all Spurs did was get one poxy goal that they didn’t deserve. I’m obviously sore about this issue as United have been screwed by it plenty of times too, Monaco, Oporto etc Take last week for example. Why the fuck should United have to score two against Madrid to stay in the competition when we’re only one goal behind? It makes no sense.
Knowing one goal would have meant extra-time completely changes your approach instead of having to get 2 or you’re fucked.

The fact of the matter is that in modern champions league football the home team in the first leg is happy with a 0-0 draw as they know that 1 goal in the away leg will put the home team under serious pressure as they have to score 2. I can’t think of a sport in the world that awads more to one team for scoring the same as another.

Too many teams are unjustly knocked out because of this bollocks fucking rule and fucking hate it.
Give me a dodgy offisde, a penalty that wasn’t or a wes brown own goal but don’t tell me that some wankers poxy deflected shot in the 94th minute means a team is knocked out when the score is 1 fucking 1 and it was their first pot at goal the whole fucking game.

  40. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Morning Reds.

@BobbyCCO Cheers mate. I don’t know, If Rio played for Rovers he wouldn’t be getting a sniff. And Becks at 36 still crosses better than Ashley Cole, just saying. Rio and Becks both get and got in on quality PLUS who they play for. It will always be thus in England.

Good on Ben Foster (former player for you younger devils) for #1 making himself available and #2 being good enough to get picked. Always a good keeper, just not the right chemistry to be a united keeper. But that’s no disrespect for his shot stopping.

  41. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

Howya Fletch – Beckham has a great cross no doubt about it, In fact he’ll be a better crosser of the ball when he’s 50 than most premiership players playing then but I’m still convinced that for the last caps he won he wasn’t the best player available in that position.
The profile of the team definitely helps and with Beckham his personal profile is huge.
As far as England is concerned it’s definitely their gain and our loss. I’m surprised he was called up to be honest regardless of form. I thought woy was looking to move on but clearly they can’t make their mind up.

  42. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

I’m talking about Rio in the last paragraph…I just realised that not everyone might understand what’s going on in me head.

  43. FletchTHEMAN says:

Speaking of Call ups. Anyone heard about whether David De Gea will get a senior call up for Spain?

  44. FletchTHEMAN says:

BobbyCCO Alright mate. Cheers. I just hope they made a decision to give Rio a real run at the WC qualifications and etc. With JT history, England feels a senior player light, especially if Stevie me gets injured. I think there is more at play than you make out. Roy has surely had a sit down with all the senior players and made tripple sure this would work. But if they just piss off Rio after qualification it would be a real shame.

England really haven’t treated Rio well, or fair. Alot of that is down to the ABU elements in the press and the FA. It comes back to bite england all the time. Has for Becks, Scholes, for Rooney and for Rio.

But enough of that 7 United players in England camp. Be mint if they all play their part. But just hoping none come home injured.

Phil Jones will be gutted to mis out as well. Sort of expect Jones, Ben Amos and Nick Powell to be picked by Stuart Pearce for the U21s

  45. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Ah ha! Just found it:

    England Under-21 squad in full:

    Goalkeepers: Ben Amos,
    Defenders: none from United
    Midfielders: none from United
    Forwards: Wilfried Zaha.

So Powell (to young?) and Jones (injured) don’t make the squad for the 2 U-21 friendlies.

  46. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

If fairness to woy he said rio was being picked to play. I would also take that to mean that he will be around for all the qualifiers and the WC. Anything else would be an insult.

  47. FletchTHEMAN says:

Andromeda cheers mate. That interview was the basis for my question to be fair. But it will be a big step up for him and I do hope he goes to the WC.

But Spain have such massive depth at keeper you feel that it is more likely that DeGea stays in the U21 squad for the European U21 Championship. There he will actually play and could win.

  48. Andromeda says:

    Ah, you right mate O.o

Actually I feel that his incredible performance against Real Madrid would easily grant him the senior Team call, but I feel by the next couple of months, he will be the genuine candidate to replace anyone in the first team. The lad has all potentials to be the best keeper in Europe.

  49. FletchTHEMAN says:

Andromeda Ha, Good call mate. De Gea just got listed on the spanish side! Great news for him. Should be a massive confidence boost.

  50. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Hold the presses:

    SAF press conference….

Rio will have to decide! 8O

    http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2013/Mar/sir-alex-ferguson-reacts-to-rio-ferdinand-england-call-up.aspx

erm Roy should have cleared this with us?!
Oi me England are a funny lot!

  51. TheCANTONA says:

    Jorge:
terry better than rio? What a joke! Even on his pomp terry couldn’t even reach Rio’s level. Rio selfish & put himself above the team? LOL! Are u thick or what? Have u forgotten Terry antics in champions league final against bayern last year? That was the most selfish behaviour i’ve ever seen from a footballer. Stupid chavs who cant even see that terry selfishness has cost chelsea 3 managers already.

  52. gazzer says:

It’s not Rio being played for a fool, it’s US!!
We all know what a horrible setup the FA have.
We’ve already seen the fiasco whenever they select a new manager.
We’ve also seen how they banned Rooney after he got a red card in a pre-season friendly!.
Rio is sart enough to see all this too.
He is only going along with this for his own reasons.
For that reason, it is FUTILE for us to care and to support him in this.
If his commercial considerations are strong enough that he is prepared to forget his pride, then who are we to tell him otherwise?
He will in turn see us as the fools we are.

I have a lot more respect for Jamie Carragher – he at least had the balls to tell them to stuff it, and for that he has my eternal admiration.

  53. WeAreUnited says:

    @Bobby Charlton’s combover

I hear you mate!!! totally agree, I am more on the second leg extra time which is pretty unfair, cause it gives the away side an advantage. OF course, it’s up to you to decide the game before that, but if there’s a 30minute extra time, the away team has the advantage.

    peace.

  54. Pio says:

I don’t see Rio as a starter or even a bench player on the English squad, so i don’t understand why he is been called up.
