After suffering from an injury ravaged season so far, Rio Ferdinand’s substitution in our 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow last night was just precautionary, with the manager worried of the effects an artificial surface might have on Rio’s back, ahead of our important game at the weekend.
Rio reckons it doesn’t matter that Liverpool are currently suffering from their worst run in 22 years, as form goes out of the window in the big games.
“I think form goes out of the window in these games,” said Ferdinand. “We all know that when there’s a big rivalry between two teams, whether it’s a derby or a big cup clash, form doesn’t come into it. It all comes down to who performs best on the day and that’s what we’re looking to do.”

Rio is a class player we should just have faith in him.
Genius comment from Rio
exactly.thats why dont underestimate the dippers.hey maybe wounded but they will be up for this one.and the atmosphere at Anfield will be 1000 times louder than on Tuesday. If Gerrard and Torres are fit then we really have a battle on our hands.
Also fans saying we will batter and writing them off are seriously deluded .it wont be that easy. They are still a good side and can beat anyone on their day.
ON A SERIOUS NOTE.THIS IS THEIR YEAR.DONT FORGET THAT
there is no such thing as form. daniel finkelstein showed this in the imes last week or two weeks ago, but it’s not like it was necessary, you don’t forget how to kick a football.
aig
absolutely agree.. Cant wait for the weekend to arrive!
Rio’s spot on, form means nothing in most games let alone a game of this calibre. I’m expecting the usual hard, fast game that we usually experience on our trips to Anfield. I’m confident of a victory but then I always am! Come on United!
I want soooooooooooooo much to beat the merseydive scum, i’ll fucking dance for joy. Revenge for last season and another nail in the coffin.
But, remember the 80′s, dippers winning everything and it was the one match united would almost always win.
that could be sunday.
Am just saying, the lads gotta be up for this and dont take anything for granted.
looks like after a long long time the nightmare of injuries to our defenders is finally over. only worry is that Vida doesn’t get exposed 1 on 1
Saw this midweek game nothing but as a distraction ….now that its over I can solely focus on the anfield clash …btw on topic have to agree with Rio here , form really is irrelevant when it comes to these sort of matches …but I am confident that Fergie will inspire the team to a victory , I mean after all who would most want to be the man that hands liverpool their 5th consecutive defeat ,a feat they haven’t achieved in some 50 years.
Are Rooney,Evra,Fletch expected to be fit.?
GO ON RIO!!! FUCKING LEGEND!!!
Rio is just being professional when he says that.
United have a decent record at Anfield.
The fact is Liverpool will be deeply concerned at this point.
But…
How much can we read into the league table at this stage?
RIO , there will be no exuses this time, regardles if Stevie me and Ladyboy play. We should be fired up for revenge and we sholud really turn them over. United fans expect nothing less.
OFF TOPIC: Where on earth is Darren Gibson? Is he injured? for how long, does anyone know?
its clearly become obvious just how many bad signing the fsw has made and liverpool’s d is very slow, rio wants to play it down but utd must love their chances to bury them
Wazza (Bezi), think Evans will start ahead of Vidic on Sunday. Don’t know what’s wrong with Vida but he’s playing awful, JE was left behind yesterday which would imply he’s being rested – though there has been talk that he’s got a knock.
This match on sunday could be highly vitalbin the title race if united win it really is the final nail for liverpools title shot Liverpool really know it’s not gonna happen this year. But if united are top of the legue after the win in October at least a point ahead and they knocked a top 4(?) last seasons vise champions out so early in the season it really not only gives united there yearly December boost early but it has to say to Chelsea it not gonna happen
Scott was there not ment to ne a comp yesterday or was that me imagining things?
Wayne @ 14:34 – you’re absolutely right; LiverPoo’s defence is slow, awkward, and not especially skilful.
It has been obvious to anyone with eyes to see that Jamie Carragher’s form has been slipping for about 18 months – he’s playing a lot like the LastDaysOfHeinze which means he off-balance, out-run, and using his hands a lot. Neither Agger nor Skrtel is much better than average – or, to put it another way, would Ryan Shawcross be a better bet ?
To be sure, they’ve solved a problem with the addition of Glen Johnson, who is excellent going forward. Unfortunately – for them ! – he’s simply atrocious doing his primary job: defending. On the other side, Aurelio has a great left foot but is slow and ponderous; Insua hasn’t really progressed since he arrived from Boca Juniors (do you see something similar to Carlitos there ? Tevez, also, has not improved on his form as an 18-year old who wowed them at La Bonbonera).
A team with a questionable back four is unlikely to challenge for honours even if they could get their front six healthy, match-fit and game-ready then the collection of Mascherano/Aquilani/Benayoun/Kuyt/Gerrard/Torres would be excellent. But – reality check ! – Aquilani and Torres seem to remind me of Darren Anderton and LouisLouisHaHa.
Then there are the “intangibles” – the FatSpanishWaiter and the ludicrous belief that this will be their year. Yeah. Sure.
Twenty years and counting.
I agree with Rio,they will be fired up to beat us,and there is a chance of of a dipper backlash.
But I think we’ll manage to win it.
Fergie’s pre-match dressing room talk will definitely mirror Rio’s comments. Fergie will make sure no one takes Pool lightly. Just keep playing good football. The better team will win in the end.
P.S: Thats United ofc
It s a funny one this because we know the dippers at the moment are nothing short of awful. No creativity, no flair, no pace to their game and fuck all passion BUT because the fact it is a derby game and more so the fact they hammered us 4-1 at home last season a lot of people are very wary and rightly so. However I am gonna buck the trend here and reckon that United will beat them reasonably easy. It s not arrogance or over confidence I just feel that the dippers are no where near us this season in terms of class and performance.
The most befitting comment Rio Ferdinand.
Rio is right there’s no need to be complacent at merseyshite. but hey i’d love it if we knocked them even downwards. deluded scousers always bragging about how they’re the best cultured team and a certain stan collybore who fucking defends the dippers even if they are playing shit. PS rio is going to keep ladyboy quiet.:-)
