Wazza needs to shed some pounds! And work on his shooting more. And its been a long time since i last saw him bulldoze defenders. He should really keep that part of his game. But still, i am a big fan!

Wayne Rooney is the one player who I would be gutted at seeing being sold off by United. He has everything in his locker, the most complete player in my opinion. Fergie must play him through the middle everytime because that's where he's most lethal - a combination of that plus an injury free season will see him get 30+ goals no question. His importance to United is paramount. Since he's been at United we've averaged exactly 5 defeats in a league campaign. I would love to know how many league games we have actually lost since he's been at United. Scott the Red, can you shed some light on the stats for this please? I know last season we didn't lose a league game while he was on the pitch - Chelsea defeat of course came after he was substituted at 1-1. Of the 5 defeats in the 2004/05 season, I know the opening day defeat against Chelsea he was definitely not involved as we didn't sign him until well after that game, so that's at least only 4 defeats with his involvement that season.

Rio is talking out of both sides of his mouth - either TheBoyWonder is happiest "in the hole" behind the lead-striker or else he should be the lead-striker. He can't be both.

That said, I agree with those who thought that Rooney ( as well as Rio and Vidic) were all more "important" members of the double-winning team than Ronaldo. CR7's goals were great but they were often the result of having the ball funnelled to him. Rooney, in particular, is a terrific team-player and has shown himself to be both helpful and unselfish. In this way, he's also a more mature player than Ronaldo who pouts and flounces about when things don't go his way or he gets chopped down without any attention from the referee.

The only real fly-in-the-ointment with Wayne Rooney is the red mist that descends over him - he needs to be careful about that but, on the other hand, his aggression is a terrific asset in most situations and it would be a big, big mistake to castrate his play.

Without a doubt Rooney is our best player. He did whatever was asked, and sure he only scored 15 goals, ONLY??? He made United a better team and contributed to our success. Sure , if played in his position, we will see more goals, but winning is what we want to see, and having Wayne score, but as well assist contribute to winning.

we might say all we want but rooney has failed tom progress from a youngstar to a man.we still give excuses as if its what he needs.
a few years ago,he was better than ronaldo.now look at them.club and country.
instead of us living with the fact that he is a good player and nothing more,we waste time looking for his best position.
he is good but he has stagnated

Many wish to see The bustling ferociy of Rooey circa 2004.

What they miss is the development during his yaers under fergies tutilage.

His assists nd team pplay is exceptional and AFAIK last season we never lost a game whilst he was playing (Chelsea was the exception - he was taken off before they got the dodgy winner though!)

I think know we'll see that Rooney 2004 but with a larger weaponery.

If that Rooney that people feel has been lost, that is simply not the case.

For that Rooney has been evolving. To learn new skills, techniques and see more things and for the team he sacrificed some of his game.
Of course hes not the same rooney - he is BETTER now. Not a one-trick running at defences muppet, but more refined.
and hopefully being played in his most suitable position (just off the striker) we will not only see Rooney as good as in Euro 2004 but with the ADDED awareness, poise, stamina, skill that he has IMPROVED whilst here.

If scoring 15 , assisting 15, and being a double winner is a poor season - well imagine if he does have a good season!

His temper though, as some see as his footballing spirit (I dont) needs to simmer down IMO - Dont wanna see him do a Zidane in a final (great player BTW top 3 easy)

I think Rooney would come into his own if we do sign that striker, and the competition with Tevez for that second striker spot would spur him on. Tevez has looked sharper and faster during this pre-season and i reckon is gonna have a right tussle with rooney over that supporting striker role. This only excites me, as we will haave two supporting strikers with a lot too prove, which will only mean more goals and a 110% effort from both of them when they play. Good times Scott, good times...
