That said, I agree with those who thought that Rooney ( as well as Rio and Vidic) were all more “important” members of the double-winning team than Ronaldo. CR7′s goals were great but they were often the result of having the ball funnelled to him. Rooney, in particular, is a terrific team-player and has shown himself to be both helpful and unselfish. In this way, he’s also a more mature player than Ronaldo who pouts and flounces about when things don’t go his way or he gets chopped down without any attention from the referee.

The only real fly-in-the-ointment with Wayne Rooney is the red mist that descends over him – he needs to be careful about that but, on the other hand, his aggression is a terrific asset in most situations and it would be a big, big mistake to castrate his play.

What they miss is the development during his yaers under fergies tutilage.

His assists nd team pplay is exceptional and AFAIK last season we never lost a game whilst he was playing (Chelsea was the exception – he was taken off before they got the dodgy winner though!)

I think know we’ll see that Rooney 2004 but with a larger weaponery.

If that Rooney that people feel has been lost, that is simply not the case.

For that Rooney has been evolving. To learn new skills, techniques and see more things and for the team he sacrificed some of his game.
Of course hes not the same rooney – he is BETTER now. Not a one-trick running at defences muppet, but more refined.
and hopefully being played in his most suitable position (just off the striker) we will not only see Rooney as good as in Euro 2004 but with the ADDED awareness, poise, stamina, skill that he has IMPROVED whilst here.

If scoring 15 , assisting 15, and being a double winner is a poor season – well imagine if he does have a good season!

His temper though, as some see as his footballing spirit (I dont) needs to simmer down IMO – Dont wanna see him do a Zidane in a final (great player BTW top 3 easy)
