Rio: Scholes Saved Our Season

Manchester United’s most important player in the second half of the season has been Paul Scholes.

Rio Ferdinand has sung the praises of Scholes’ impact since coming out of retirement.

“There are a number of reasons why we’ve done well since the turn of the year,” he told United Review. “There’s no doubt one of them is Paul Scholes. Would we have been in the same position [without him]? It’s impossible to say. It’s great to have him back, though. It’s not just the quality of his football that impresses me but the way he’s adapted physically. He was out of the game for months and yet he’s come straight back into top-level football and he’s hardly looked out of place. At this stage of his career, that’s phenomenal.”

See you’re in a good mood.

Truth is, Scholes saved this season just like kebabs and Bebe saved the last one.

  4. MG says:

Well as long as we beat the arabs Cedars and win our premiership I’m not bothered how everything else pans out!

Mr. Mancini, I love the fans the manager and the weather. In the future, only God knows. I don’t think about the future, this is what I say and this is what I want. As for the future, maybe but now it’s good. It’s polemic.

Issa sad to hear this, issa be your father instead no?

Is thank you Mr. Mancini, but in the Manchester I only know one team and one Father.

    The phone goes down.

  7. WillieRedNut says:

  10. Albert Ross says:

So, so I think you can tell
    impostors from real,
    not all are the same.
You can tell a fine meal
from a fare that’s so lame,
    a smile from a veil.
Yes I think you can tell.

But not all are willing to wade
    through heroes or ghosts.
    Who wants that disease?
Hot air, or a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for he.
    Or one could exchange
a walk on part in a war
for a lead role in the cage.

How I’m glad, how I’m glad to be here.
    We’re just all Red souls
    swimming in a fish bowl,
    year after year.
Running over the same old ground.
    What have we found?
    The same old cheers.
I’m just glad to be here.

  11. MG says:

    A thanking threesome?

Lucky you Cedars! As for MG! poor me in this atrocious weather :(

Having just said that the sun has just come out!

I think it must be Divine Cedars intervention

Right United, till later need to be out for some hours

  12. Costas says:

I think you went a bit overboard. Bebe won’t be top scorer of the year. Heskey will.

    @willie, Cedars

Thanks for being so thankful lads. I am thankful.

  13. MG says:

    Yep, that’s smartalex.

    Got to go!

  14. Jeet says:

@Albert Ross: Lovely song – and we continue to have our musical coincidences. I was thinking of doing something on the lines of “we’re just 2 RED souls, swimming in a RoM bowl, year after year” :)

@MG: “The sunshine bores the daylights out of meeeeee” ;)

@Cedars: “I see the girls go by in their summer clothes…” :)

  15. CedarsDevil says:

Its such a comfortable feeling being a United supporter, so much so that it makes me numb

  16. WillieRedNut says:

MG – Sorry to tell ya mate, but I’m following Hayley on Twitter? She loves my RedNuts! :P

  17. Albert Ross says:

Jeet – our lyrics are doubtless inspired by triggers in the forum, chosen from a common library.

We just hate blue pus, flowing out of the bus, all over the world, making all the Reds hurl.
Yes I feel sick as well.

  18. WillieRedNut says:

Uefa will allow Terry(cunt) to lift the CL trophy if Chelsea beat Bayern next month. Amazing!

  19. FletchTHEMAN says:

Paul has been a revelation this year and part of it is probably down to the break he took. Thank the gods he kept himself fit as well. At this age, we need to use him economically and hope that we get another year out of him without injury.

He is such a player. They don’t grow on trees do they.

  20. CedarsDevil says:

What sets United apart from any other football club in the world, or any other sports institution that ever existed?

    Is it our history?
    Our tradition?
    Our values?
    High moral standards?
    Sir Matt, Sir Alex?
    Busby Babes?
    Holy Trinity?

All the above and much more?

I just know with all my heart and fully functional senses that I support, in fact I am honored and privileged to support the best football club that ever and will ever exist…

    United ARE my life

  21. Costas says:

Words fail me regarding the Terry ruling. It’s just incredible the amount of crap a thug can get away with nowdays.

  22. ZuluUtd-Malta says:

I agree fully and 100% with you mate! I don’t give a shitt about anything in my life but UNITED !!
I praise the Lord every day for being so kind to me and gave me the best part of my whole life which is >>>> MANCHESTER UNITED<<<

    A word to Rio.
Rio our season is not saved yet.Come Monday when we hopefully DELETE our noisy neighbours and I'll be running mad with my quod byke in Sliema-St Julians area like crazy ! Be up for lads. Do not let me suffer another heart attack PLEEEEEEEEESSEEEEE !!!!!!

  23. Phil Jones' Birdshit Streaks says:

You know, it would be a travesty if Newcastle finished 4th and were denied a place in the Champions League if Chelsea win it. That seems totally unjust and for that reason I’ll be cheering on Bayern. Obviously, throw into the mix the latest bullshit about Terry, and Chelsea can fuck right off. Set of cunts

  24. Albert Ross says:

Since the end of the Group phase, there has been argument from some quarters that we should support Chelsea (and Arsenal) because England’s ration of CL places was endangered should all English teams do poorly. That rationale has now been turned on it’s head. Supporting Chelsea is to want England’s ration to be reduced immediately, from 4 to 3.

As the streaks on Phil Jones will attest.

  25. King Eric says:

We obviously need a new central midfield player, a blind man can see that BUT I really dislike that line ” we cannot rely on a 37 year old” Why not? When that 37 year old still shits on most kids who would be available.

  26. WillieRedNut says:

Most United fans will be wanting a Bayern win. No brainer!

  27. denton davey says:

CedarsDevil @ 10:22: ” I guess the boss looked at what he had at the beginning of the season with the likes of Clev, Anderson and may be even Pogba and thought we could manage. Of course Scholes could never be replaced like for like”

It’s impossible to replace “class” – and TheGingerNinja is that, and all.

You forgot to mention that there was probably some hope that DarrenFletcherinho was going to be available in addition to YoungTom, FatAndy, and PP (to be known in the future as “It’sPogba,NotDrogba” ???).

One has the sense that SAF keeps his team in “permanent transition” mode – how else can one explain the deletion of perfectly-serviceable players like Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, John O’Shea, and Wesley Brown well before their best-by dates ? So, if there’s any truth in that suggestion, then the WilyOldFootieKnight has probably got his eye on one/two box-to-box midfielders who can be brought in to provide the drive/energy that has been aborted by the unfortunate injury/illness that have wrecked his plans for renewal with Owen Hargreaves and DarrenFletcherinho. Or else, MrJones might be given more than a few, random matches partnering Michael Carrick.

Back to the topic (!), Scholes’ form and endurance have been amazing – can he continue next year ? Why not ? Class is, after all, permanent AND physicality has never been a key part of his game although he has that nasty-bugger streak that anyone wandering through the UTD midfield is well aware of !

  28. King Eric says:

Willie – Too right pal. United and Munich have obviously got a bond type of thing and I am a big fan of Beckenbaur who is always respectful to United and is great pals with Sir Bobby. I have no problems with Munich whatsoever. Well aside from that little fucking nonce Ribery. A proper football club.

Meanwhile gotta love Fergie. Look at him with that mischevious glint in his eye. Bet he is buzzing about Monday and not nervous at all despite what he says. Actually gald its away as we know our away fans will outsing those cunts even if our numbers are low. Their fans will create an edgy atmosphere:

  29. King Eric says:

denton – Good post pal . Ha “FatAndy”. Quality.

  30. CedarsDevil says:

Greetings to all Reds in Malta, such a beautiful place and houses which I believe is one of the oldest United fans clubs in the world…….

  31. CedarsDevil says:

Well said, I suppose no one expected Fletcher’s illness to be so severe and his absence has been felt…..

    Loved your ‘WilyOldFootieKnight’

  32. FletchTHEMAN says:

UEFA’S Decision A Kick In The Teeth For Roy Keane

Good review of the facts. Always different rules for United.
Was there a similar ruling for Darren Fletcher I wonder?

  33. King Eric says:

Fuck off Quinn you fat scouse horse abusing dole cheating cunt siding with Terry. Saying the country “forgave Goldenballs for France 98″ Fuck off. He got pilloried for years till his goal against Greece when the little Ingerlunders changed their tunes. Anyway what the fuck has he to do with it? Keano wouldn’t even collect the cup if he could have as he didnt feel part of it. Just like Sir Bobby wouldn’t walk up in Moscow yet Kenyon did. Shows the gulf in class. I fucking detest that fat tached cunt.

  34. King Eric says:

    Fletch – Spot on mate.

Cedars – Alright mate. Yes the supporters club in Valetta is THE oldest one. Been to MALTA loads of times as a kid and it’s a lovely place and the people are so nice.

  35. Costas says:

” fat scouse horse abusing dole cheating cunt”

Never seen uninterrupted abuse this long.

  36. FletchTHEMAN says:

King Eric, Some reports on Twitter saying Keano ‘chose’ not to pick up the trophy. Opting for photos on the pitch. I actually don’t recall specifically, is it posible that he just had to much pride to do it?

RE ManUnited Malta, they even have a proper www sited
Top Supporters Club! Proper reds as well!

  37. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Sir Alex’s presser:

“We have to get used to playing City in important games. The financial support they have means we’ll meet them in a lot of big games. Therefore, if we’re going to be contesting with them for the league title it will become almost as important as the Liverpool derbies. In fact, this supercedes Liverpool at the moment because they’re our direct opponents. We have to focus on the team who can affect our progress in terms of winning the league.”

  38. utd_fc says:

this season will still end up as a colossal fail if we don’t win this league. Knocked out to basel et al in the champs league, bilbao in Europa, the 1-6 at our own home… Wish Rio would stop talking like its in the bag.

  39. redbilly says:

I want Bayern to not only win , I want a Bayern goalfest. Bastien letting fuck all through, leave chelski quaking. Followed by varifiable rumours that said Bastian is heading to old trafford. We could make good use of the German powerhouse. One can dream.

  40. redbilly says:

    MG he crazy no?

  41. Danhbk says:

For up to the minute Manchester United news/opinion.

  42. Albert Ross says:

5 minutes have passed. Still no news?

  43. Albert Ross says:

What’s happening mate? Still no news?

When you say up to the minute news, is that one particular minute? Which minute will that be?

I will say that your advert is very misleading. It implies that we get the news as-it-happens.
A lot has happened since 18:40.

  44. United says:

It was a little desperate. Just because it came out of Vieira’s mouth doesn’t mean it wasn’t at least a little true.

Think about how much trouble we had controlling games without scholes (Lets set Everton aside, he was tired and needed to come off a good 5-10 minutes before he did)

But, player of the season? Maybe, personally i’d give to Evans, he’d been good and the guy deserves something to make him feel like the fans are on his side.

I hated him, but i’ve come round.

  45. ZuluUtd-Malta says:

Yes mate ! We have our Maltese Branch the oldest in the world and it’s official. Date formed 5th February 1959.
You’ll be more than welcome to our supporters club if you visit our Island one day !
    Cheers mate !

  46. Pam says:

In what precise way was the season saved?
