The Sun today has an ‘exclusive’ which claims Rio Ferdinand is thinking about a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.
“Rio can see the sense of it,” said ‘a source’. “Not only would it be a fresh challenge as he nears the end of his career, it would also fit all his projects off the pitch. Rio has big business plans, which are already taking shape, and would really take off if he moved to one of the big Spanish clubs.”
Whilst Rio hasn’t always endeared himself to United fans, I’m of the opinion he certainly feels a strong connection with our club now and won’t be thinking about anything other than seeing out his playing days at United (and hoping Terry fucks another teenager so he can rightfully claim the England captaincy!).
Rio is no David Beckham and he certainly doesn’t have a fame-hungry wife. He says he loves the club and I can’t see a reason for him to move. He’s 30-years-old and there would be no reason to uproot his young family to make a quick buck in Spain.
Where this “The Sun” got an “exclusive interview”? Exclusive from Rio’s former helper? Or former gardener? Or from a shop-owner who the Rio’s wife’s mother where she always shop?

We first need to ensure that Vida, who is tougher, younger and less injury prone than Rio, is here for life.
It seems that Rio is becoming another Gary Neville.He has been missing a lot of important matches and looks like his injury problems are becoming more frequent and getting worse. And we can`t afford this as the defensive strength, understanding and consistency of our duo rio-vida has been the backbone of our success in recent years.

Sorry, but comparing Rio to Giggs, Scholes or Neville is a little insulting. Yes, he’s been a great player for this club…but he’s also been a twat as well. Lets not forget where he came from, and how he regarded the club before we bought him. Yes, bygones are bygones and he deserves our support…even after he was banned and then asked for a contract extension.
But don’t compare him to true United legends. Player who came up with United. Are United, and will always be regarded as United players.
Again. Not saying Rio hasn’t been a fabulous player for us. But he’s not as loved as the three others that have been mentioned here. Unlike them, I suspect he does have a price for which he could be sold. It’s not going to be cheap, but i suspect a fair number of supporters wouldn’t cry a river if he left.
That being said, this rumor is rubbish and he will in all probability finish his career at United.
While we shouldn’t have let Pique off, I’m shocked some on here would say to dump Rio for a quick buck because he’s not as young as he used to be. He’s never been my top player but he’s a fucking monster. Look at the replay of the pens in Moscow. The passion on Rio’s face is awesome.

Can’t see it happening but it wouldn’t bother me too much if he went. He’s still a top class player so we’d get a decent sum of money for him, if Lescott’s worth 25 million then Rio’s gotta be worth 30, even though he turns 31 this year. But to be honest I’m more occupied with keeping Vidic and Evans happy than Rio, he’s getting way too many injuries and he should only have 2 more years as a first teamer in any case. I know what Wazza is saying above, but we’ve had the best years from Rio now, he’s never going to be better than he was 2 years ago for any club, so I don’t think it would be too daft to sell him IF someone bid a large amount for him. I certainly wouldn’t offer him around and I certainly wouldn’t let him leave on the cheap as on his day he can still be the best centre half in the country, perhaps the world, I’m just thinking if that ‘day’ only comes around 2 or 3 times a season due to his injuries, then letting him leave for a wad of cash might work out the best for us.
Remember we also have the young Brazilian centre backDodo arriving soon, unless I’ve missed something that is? So Vidic and Evans as regulars with Brown and Dodo as back up it doesn’t sound too bad, especially if we had another 30 million in the bank.

I LOVE RIO for what he has achieved and his commitment to the team. But bear in mind that
1. People who want us to sell players for money are People who also Love Man UTD.
2. These People are not talking about selling Wayne Rooney,Fletcher, Evra or Vida for money.
3.Rio`s case is different. He will soon be 31 years old. He has a four year contract. He is getting injured on a regular basis and things don`t look like improving unfortunately. IF, and I say IF he wants to go, then why not sell him for 30 m+ IF we can get that sort of money?? You mentioned Giggs and Scholes – These guys have never ever thought of leaving Man UTD.
4. Evans and Vida have played quite well as a defensive duo. So it won`t really be a big loss as what it would have been 2 years earlier. We have genuine class and ability at the back with evans and vida.
5. Fergie has to think not only about the present but also and especially for the future. Thats why we won the title with 3 different teams in the premiership.
6.We sold Ince,Hughes,Kanchelskis and this paved the way for Becks,Butt,the Nevilles and Scholesy who are now legends here.
So why can`t we sell a player aged 31,who may want to leave,who is missing so many important games, who will bring good money to buy other bright prospects like Shawcross. What will you say IF in 3/4 years` time our new defensive duo is Evans and Shawcross ( both 25 years old average)and they are as good as Brucey-Pallister or Rio-Vida?

I would not rule out ferdinand leaving. with real madrids insane spending united could milk madrid another 25 or 30 plus million for ferdinand. barcelona and milan clubs have a ton of cash to spend and if a big offer did come in and with the ever improving evans, ferdinand leaving next summer presuming cathcart steps up ferdinand could be sold.

I think it’ll be good business for MU. If Madrid and Barca make a bid for him, a price war will take place and the one to gain will be United. In fact, with the number of injuries plaguing him the past few seasons, SAF will be wise enough to cash in on him. There are a number of youngsters on the way up such as Cathcart who can team up with seasoned campaigners like Vidic, Brown or Evans. If Vidic also decides to go to sunny Spain, then it will be back to square one.
If we get an offer of £10M + Fergie would take it, without doubt. He’s lost a yard of pace has gone soft. Considering the matches he’s missed with with slight injuries over the last year Fergie will want rid before too long. When you compare rio to Evans who has played through injury there is no doubt evans is the way forward.
