There’s no denying that the football on display from Manchester United this season has been very dull to watch.

We’ve been excellent at keeping the ball and preventing the opposition from scoring, but when it comes to creating chances and scoring, we haven’t been good enough.

Still, on Saturday, United could go top of the league if we beat Leicester, having already climbed above the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the table.

Rio Ferdinand has been keen to remind people, who seem to believe Sir Alex Ferguson always employed scintilating football, that we weren’t great to watcg towards the end of the manager’s reign.

When I was a player my main aim was to win a trophy first and win it playing exciting football second, and that seems to be Van Gaal’s too.

Certainly during the final three seasons under Sir Alex it was more a case of us getting over the line than anything cavalier.

However, there was certainly a lot more ambition and threat in our play than there is currently with United.
