Rio: We wouldn’t disappear like Liverpool

Following the huge disappointment in the dying seconds of last season, Rio Ferdinand has sung the praises of the mentality of this squad to come back and have the title won in April.

He claims that lesser teams might have been damaged by the impact of losing the title, as Liverpool were in 2008-2009. That season we were chasing our 18th title whilst they were chasing their 19th. Since losing out to us and finish 2nd that season they have finished 7th, 6th, 8th and are currently 7th.

United now have a record breaking 20 titles whilst Liverpool are still on 18 with their last league win coming an incredible 23 years ago.

“I think that just shows the resilience and the attitude in the squad that the manager has instilled in us,” he added. “A lot of other teams would probably have fallen away. We played Liverpool a couple of seasons ago when they were fighting for the title, we beat them and got to the league before them and they’ve not been seen since. That shows the mentality and character that this club has.”

Er… didn’t they beat us 1-4 that season?

  2. FletchTHEMAN says:

Now we just need to get Rio to sign his new contract.

Come on son! No holding out on us! Sign the thing! One or two more years to help the pups along!

  3. kanchelskis says:

So with Goetze to Bayern confirmed, it now looks like Cavani might be on his way to PSG.

This is hilarious. A summer of big spending by City already halfway down the shitter!

  4. Manc Harvin says:

This shows just how wide the gap has become between United and our biggest rivals. We’re 2 league titles ahead of Liverpool now, but light years ahead of them in all other respects. You simply cannot see them competing for the title in the next few years, and the 23 years without winning the league, is likely to continue for a good few more years yet for the Scousers.

While we’ve been busy this week clinching a record breaking 20th title, Liverpool have been busy trying to deal with the outrage caused by the latest disgraceful act by their odious little striker.

As Vidic holds the trophy aloft on 12th May though, it’ll be “Are you watching Merseyside” which you’ll hear booming out around Old Trafford, not “Are you watching Man City”. At times like these you don’t forget who your real rivals are. The fact that we don’t sing that particular chant about City is the ultimate snub for them.

  5. kanchelskis says:

And also may mean Rooney is staying.

  6. Zulu-Utd-Malta says:

    Rio meant : YNWA= you’ll never walk AGAIN !!!!!!!

Congratulations to our beloved Manchester United from the Manchester United Supporters Club of Malta (EU)

  7. Marq says:

    You’ll Never Walk Alone?

Sorry, there can only be 1 Champion, so we’d prefer to walk that path alone

  8. WeAreUnited says:

götze to bayern is a BIG surprise, a GREAT move from Guardiola, he just signed one of the most talented rising player in this planet

we should do the same and snap IkerMuniain, I know I am getting repetitive, but my instincts says he will be coming, DDG will talk to his best friend and tell him how it is to win the league and to be a member of this beautiful histry

YOU HEARD IT FIRST from me! IkerMuniain to ManchesterUnited!

  9. Mixer says:

1st of all..Congratulations to United on their title. Does everyone think Fergy will never retire???? REALLY wake up and smell the truth. Bubbles of the greatest ever..but Man UTD will be really lucky to hold onto that. Giggs will be the next man in charge…or am i the only person in the world to see that. Dont rest on your laurels…the game has changed.

And all this from a Liverpool Supporter. Respect to Sir Alex for his support at Hillsborough. And every decent Manchester United fan. We are all human and we love the beautiful game..

  12. WeAreUnited says:

I think yesterday at leats showed that how great Kagawa is o nthat role and when he clicks it up

it will be hard for Rooney to get past Kagawa unless Kagawa plays the left midfield/wingr/AMF or Rooney goes there, otherwise can’t see Kagawa getting subbed next season anymore.

Zaha coming and a couple of midfielders will make us strong!

    kampiooone kampiooone ole ole oleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  15. Marq says:

I’m not too concerned about where Gotze, even if City got him. The last highly rated playmaker to leave Dortmund didn’t set the world alight. And if you look at it, Cleverley is actually in the same mould as Gotze, so we wouldn’t really have been interested, not at that kind of price anyway. Btw, what happened to the exciting talent that was Muller? Bayern screwed his career like they did to numerous others?

  16. WeAreUnited says:

I don’t know my friend, but buying Götze is one of the smartest mve of the “summer”, he’s one of the brightest out there. Guardiola clearly knows what he’d doing. The latest playmaker leaving Dortmund is Kagawa? I don’t mean do you mean him or Sahin, but Sahin is nowehere close either of them.

Cleverley has his own style, and I actually rate him very highly, and I understand the comparison, but you gotta admit it, the closest in the same mould of Götze is Kagawa and not Clevs, Clevs is more of a ball retainer and the one who keeps it ticking, but not a playmaker, and there’s the difference which makes Götze better than Clevs.

I myself would have bought him at any price. As for Muller, last time I have watched Bayern or German football, well the lad has done really well, he’s a different type of player than Götze or Kagawa, and has its own style, he’s no playmaker, you can’t say his career is screwed cause he’s doing well at Bayern, just that the competition has become immense there, Shaqiri, Robben, Ribery, Götze and Muller.

Have been watchign a lot of german football, and Götze is something else. But this is only my opinion, and you will see it when he goes to Bayern. SCARY stuff. believe me :)

Glad City did not snap him, because it would have made them scary strong. Anyway, you will see, Götze is in another level, rising star from the likes of Isco, Muniain. Shaqiri Eriksen and Reus!

Trust me, just because we did not get him does not make him a lesser player or that we have a better player, luckily we have a same player like him, Kagawa, in who we should build our future team and tactics. peace.

  17. Marq says:

Yea, I was talking about Sahin. And don’t get me wrong, I am not putting Gotze down, he is a de ent player, but not at that price

And talking about Muller, he must have heard me mouthing him, Barca feeling his full wrath! =p

  18. kk says:

hehehe Marq, Muller just did that to Barca. That was sweet. We also have to follow Bayerns lead and improve ourselves

  19. Gorse Hill Red says:

Yes did see a few ‘Not 19 forever flags’ on Monday but something did annoy me in that the 19 flag in the North Stand was not changed to 20 there and then……I am cancelling my season ticket.

  20. Red Letter says:

I’ve been reading the blogs on lots of the newspapers since Monday and am surprised
and pleased with the amount of congratulations we’ve received from some very sporting Liverpool
supporters and also expressing their gratitude to SAF for his support for Hillsborough. Sometimes
football supporters are full of irrational bile and hatred towards each other instead of uniting in the
common cause to preserve the most working class of sports from the tentacles of greedy capitalists who wish to destroy our game as we know it and turn it into just another commodity for profit at all costs.
