Rio: You don’t turn United down

With United linked to a whole host of big name players this summer, Rio Ferdinand has urged any player who United approach not to turn down the opportunity to play for our club.

“If United come in for you, you take it,” Ferdinand said. “Even if you are a great player you become a better one at this club. Cristiano Ronaldo became the best player in the world having come from Sporting Lisbon. The likes of Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, David Beckham, Andy Cole all became great players at United. With this platform you cannot believe anyone would ever turn it down. If you have ambition your aim has to be to make a name for yourself at a top club. As a player aged between say 23 and 27 that is what you should be looking at. It shows you are going somewhere and want to win trophies.”

Ferdinand has played for Sir Alex Ferguson for eleven years but is looking forward to David Moyes’ reign.

“Moyes is a real football man and an honest guy,” he added. “His hard working ethic reflects the man himself and he obviously wants success. We’ve got a great chance with this manager. Every year when we have the end-of-season party we are thinking about the next season and what we are going to do. We always talk about improving on the previous season. That was no different this year just because the manager has changed.”

    Ears up Fabregas?

  2. Kings says:

    Absolutely. Well said Rio.

  3. King Eric says:

Well said Rio but sadly a lot of modern day footballers are fucking rentboys. Fuck em’

  4. AlphaRS says:

Unless you’re Rooney. Then you put in a transfer request for the 2nd time in a few years.

  5. fola dearg says:

Definite PR exercise but very true all the same

  7. ididnotzeeit says:

Absolutely brilliant that he signed an extension. Still one of the best in Europe imo.

In looking at the Fabregas rumours, one thing we can all conclude is it would do wonders for Anderson’s confidence training against Cesc everyday ;)

  8. Diego says:

If this is true, and marchisio really would consider leaving Juve, we should definitely be sniffing around…

  9. wayne says:

Rio has turned into a top Red also said money is not the motivating factor

We are well paid, of course, but it’s more important for me to be at a club which enjoys success, and historically is the greatest in the world, than to earn a bit extra somewhere else.”

  10. FletchTHEMAN says:

Unfortunately, a sizable number HAVE turned us down over the last couple years, and some youngsters have buggered off too soon as well.

  11. wayne says:

yeah Fletch but that’s good mate said on a earlier thread most of the lads at Utd have Rio’s attitude, the only 2 that obviously don’t is Rooney and Nani it’s what separates Utd from the rent boy clubs. If players want to go toss it off in the french league or choose City over Utd like Nasri did for a better pay check personally don’t want the cunts at the club anyway.

  12. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT. says:

For Marchisio. I think we shouldn’t make him our number one midfield target. I have seen him quite a few times and trust me Vidal is FAR FAR better. If we are going to put in a bid, it should not be anything more than 18 million. Not the kind of midfielder I would personally take as first choice at United.

  13. 207egend says:

I agree, I think veratti would be a better option he’s alot younger and I think he’d a better player at a reduced price, marchisos age is to close to thirty, thiago would be my no.1 target, I can’t see faragas leaving but the purchase of neymar makes our chances of getting one of them far better, mind you Alexis Sanchez at the right price would tickle my tastebuds I think he’d be better suited in our team 2

  14. King Eric says:

At this stage in his career Veratti wouldn’t make a jot of difference to our EXISTING gap in midfield. He’s a
kid still. Yes he played well against Barca but so did Wanyama! Neither good enough or ready to plug the gap yet IMO. Couple or three decent games these days and players are deemed world beaters.

As for Sanchez? Not for me. VERY inconsistent and has been a total flop at Barca. A horrible cheating cunt too. No experience is exactly what we need. Someone of Marchisio’s of 27 is ideal. Not many about though.

  15. mara says:

Thiago and Cesc would be fantasic main targets. Cesc played in England, Thiago will learn with him. We just need to play sistem where we can use them on the best way, not like Kagawa on the left, guy is confused :-) playing position he never played before.

  16. RedLion says:

Fabregas will never leave Barcelona.. He is playing for his home team as he is FROM Barcelona.. Anyone here see Wellbeck wanting lo leave Manchester United??? well, its very much the same situation for Cesc at Barcelona… Oh, and Cesc is actually scoring, assisting goals, won a league, plays champions league football with the same childhood friends/teammates he won a world cup with, trains under a coach that knows him since he was a kid and lastly, he trains with the best player in the world (Messi) on a daily basis, who also happens to be a good friend and of the same age.. To finish, ill mention that Barcelona is a beautiful, warm city with lovely beaches.. Would you leave?? hell noo..!

  17. RedLion says:

Understand that he plays for his hometown, in front of his family, friends and one of the best teams in the world (who also pay him a LOT of $$) so why would he want to leave?.. I just want us to focus on reality and stop dreaming of Cesc. I think Shinji K. will surprise us all!

  18. samuel - united WE stand says:

Thiago is a quality player and although there’s only one scholes, the spaniard could moulded into a world class central midfielder. Some say he isn’t physically strong for the PL but we’ve seen small technically gifted players really become dominant in the league in recent years and with thiago’s quality, he would prevail. My only issue is when united improve and barca come calling, it would be difficult to keep him.

  19. samuel - united WE stand says:

King Eric – age shouldn’t matter if they have temprament and quality in my opinion. I think arturo vidal is a better midfielder than marchisio who’s pretty efficient but not outstanding. Marco veratti isn’t proven on a long term basis yet but he has the potential to be, so does thiago. Not that there’s any chance of getting marchisio, his club have released a “no for sale” line yet again, veratti would cost a lot and I doubt there’s concrete interest, thiago looks likely but all rumours.

  20. 207egend says:

Yea shinjis got alot more to offer, and when he hits the hights he hit for Dortmund for us then there not many to compare him with, I think he’s got all the potential cesc as but is prodominantly A no 10, were as cesc van play mostly any were in midfield, as for Sanchez, I don’t think barca suits his game as well as united, if he hit the form he hit in the world cup with regular football then id put im in the top 5 wingers in the world

  21. Greek (MU)djahiddin says:

When you leave United you go a step down. When you do not join them, you don’t know how it feels at the top of the world.

  22. Rukky says:

Ferdinard is already a red ambassador, great model for manunited players. I recon that theres obvious doubt about machiso @30m euros(baffling valuation) but remember we had an enquiry about vidal regected last summer. He’s very important to juve and is reluctant to leave as well. Exactly what we need, but out of reach(45m euros). Stroot n thiago would do our midfield justice. Pple 4get carrick is 32 already.

  23. MyCowIsTheBest says:

IMHO, it depends on your status / age.

If you are a 19 year old, just out of your academy and looking for a professional contract, then you should not come to Old Trafford. There are just too many youngsters here already. Even the likes of Paul Pogba did not get enough chance to prove himself here.

You can only come here either to join the academy, or as an established star. Example: RvP, Berbatov, Ashley Young, Valencia, Carrick, Rio.
If you come to join the academy, chances is even though you may not become a star at OT, you have a bigger chance to become a star eslewhere.

  24. The One says:

    Greek (MU)djahiddin, spot on!!

  25. FletchTHEMAN says:

Been saying this for months! Ha No way is Ronaldo coming this year.
Cristiano Ronaldo advisors are apparently suggesting he stay at Real Madrid for 18mo before making a transfer.

  26. Scott says:

Fletch – And you think Real Madrid will let him do that? You think they’re going to pay £80m for a player then let him leave on a free? He will have to sign an extension or they will sell him, whether they want to or not, because they will want to recoup some of that transfer fee. Let’s not forget next season is the first year of FFP.

  27. samuel - united WE stand says:

MyCowIsTheBest – what are you on about? United scouts will always keep an eye on younger players at other academies and do sign them so your logic neither sustainable or reasonable. Chances are you could become a star if you possess the required quality and temprament, the club will always give younger players chances even if the youth team is filked up. The conveyor belt has to keep rolling, quality and talent is never enough. Pogba was close to a first team, regular but he got far too big for his boots and the cunt seems to get a buzz off trying to “stand up” to fergie, he was never a manchester united player in terms of attitude and commitment. Younger players will continue to come in and those that will make it, will do so.

  28. FletchTHEMAN says:

I am sure Real will try to move him. But as we have seen with Wes Sneijder and a host of players on mega contracts, it is easier said than done. Wes basically got benched for a year b/c inter couldn’t shift his wages.

This is the number one blight of the chav clubs. Wealth of benched tallent that are just waiting out their contracts.

Anyway, the reason that I have been saying it is that even the risk of Ronaldo doing this gives his camp enormous leverage.

The Virus really did shoot themselves in the foot not backing him for Balon d’Or last year.
Casillas was ruining the dressing room. First he got rid of Mourinho, now he is working on Renaldo.

Haven’t seen any quotes from Casillas saying Ronaldo has to say. Well not like he means it..

  29. FletchTHEMAN says:

In case the point was missed. A player with a contract can always just wait out the contract. They may take some heat, but this is why it is a contract. Both parties have pledged to fulfill it to the end.

Didn’t Hargreaves take his last quid. Likely Bebe will do the same unless Sporting match his wages. That was the laugh about QPR taking Park.

  30. FletchTHEMAN says:

Right, and Nani did same last year when Russian champions were offering us 25M last year, but not enough wages for Nani, now could go for 10M or less.

Here is another story on Thiago,
Catalan papers reading the tea leaves:
Thiago Alcantara will go to Manchester United. Catalan rag say it must be true.

  31. roboo7 says:

Why buy cesc when we have kagawa we need a midfield that brakes the play up can controll the game from deep with carrick marchsio or gundogan are the best targets for that nani to sign a contract if not sell him bid for bale or ronnie.

  32. 207egend says:

I like gundogan hes got alot of class an has the perfect temprement for united, can’t see a putting an offer on the table though
