The Most Improved Player award

Nominees: Nani and Dimitar Berbatov
This time a year ago, it was hard to imagine Nani having a future at Manchester United. Sections of the press and fans claimed Gabriel Obertan had more about him and stood a better chance of filling Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots. But then he suddenly came good towards the start of 2010 and hasn’t looked back. Nobody has assisted more goals than him this season and he has also chipped in with some important goals in 2010 against the likes of Bayern Munich (2) and Spurs (2). Not the finished article yet, but he only turned 24 a month ago, so we’re certainly got more to come from him. He has gone from a player we looked certain to sell to a player we’re relieved to see in the starting line-up.

Dimitar Berbatov has scored a hattrick against Liverpool and five goals in one game this season, making it 20 league goals scored in 2010. For some perspective, Carlos Tevez has 26, Didier Drogba has 22, Wayne Rooney has 13 and Fernando Torres has 11. He’s currently the top scorer in the league, 2 goals away from equalling his best ever Premiership total and 4 goals away from equalling Eric Cantona’s best ever Premiership total. Just saying.

Winner: Nani
