    fuck Ronaldo
Fucker left to go the team of his dreams … Too fucking bad if it’s turned into a nightmare

  8. Costas says:

Vidic talks a lot of sense about the defence. Time to tighten it up.

  9. Seymour Butt says:

That article was awfully harsh on Ronaldo. Bring him back!

  10. TonyBee says:

Costas … He is only saying what everyone else has been.
I said on Sunday that teams have deliberately targeted tall forwards against our smaller fullbacks … It worked twice on Sunday

  11. Costas says:

    @Tony

True pal. And to Rafa’s credit, after the opening Southampton goal he wised up and didn’t allow Lambert to get the best of him. Evra on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky. There’s a way to battle this tactic. We have to make sure we either intercept those long balls or that we don’t leave the full backs one on one with the tall strikers. The team in general has to defend better. Of course it hasn’t helped that Rio and Vida are still rusty.

  12. wayne says:

I agree with the Ronnie article, Ronnie back to Utd talk is just not realistic. This is to do with money.Ronnie is a prize wanker and being sad is fucking nonsense, the cunt is a drama queen of the highest order. It’s also a ploy to bring attention back to himself when he didn’t win the ‘prize’,give me team unity any day of the week

  13. bRed says:

Loved RVP’s celebrations for the injury time winner. That knowing smirk and swagger – love it! More to come please!

  14. kk says:

Dropping DeGea was just to show him that he wont be tolerating any mistakes and that high standards are expected of him now in his 2nd season. It was also a message to the rest. He is being consistent, he dropped Roo this season and also last season when he turned up for training in poor shape. He is sending a message to the rest of the boys so they better learn and am ok with that.

  15. kanchelskis says:

In our next two games, we face a 6’4 (and in-form) Franco di Santo, then possibly the 6’2 Burak Yılmaz. Let’s hope they can sort out the problem of FBs getting isolated against tall forwards on crosses. Every single goal we’ve conceded this season has been off a cross. All but one of those crosses in the air.

After that, we switch to the midgets in Sterling, Suarez and Borini. Sadly, one of those midgets has a track record of either scoring against us or generally shredding our defence. As well as being a racist cuntbucket.

  16. kanchelskis says:

    (oh and then Ba, Adebayor)

  17. wayne says:

Utd don’t need a goalkeeper problem, what’s surprised me the most is everyone knows DDG weakness you’d think Utd would have worked on that through the off season but he looks the same to me in terms of build and his timidness in dealing with crosses

  18. Costas says:

If Ron’s problem is money, too bad. About time Real and Barca’s taxes increased. You can’t expect regular people to bear the burden of taxes while football clubs (by their standards) get off easy.

  19. wayne says:

Costas and there lies the rub mate, for years banks having been giving Real Madrid interest free loans, the year Real signed Ronnie and Kaka borrowed a small fortune, now Spain is broke can’t get away with it anymore and the free ride is over.

  20. Jrdonl says:

@costas spot on..bt one and one duel produces magic moments and nut mug moments for winner and loser respectively..ask ronaldo

  21. kanchelskis says:

    @wayne

Yep, plus a change to the tax laws. No longer represents the relative haven for high-earners in comparison with the UK. More or less level now.

  23. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

Can we give Alex buttner a game PLEASE? Evra yet AGAIN was shown up against Southampton. I mean see how EASILY Puncheon went past him at times. We didn’t sign Buttner to be a reserves player. We signed him to be a kick up the arse for Evra. PLAY THE MAN!!!

  24. Costas says:

    @Wayne

Eaxctly. And about time too. I really hope this isn’t the reason Ronaldo is upset. He’s Portuguese and he lives in Spain. He, better than most, realizes how austerity measures affect normal citizens these days. He won’t have it rough if his income goes from 9 million euros a year to 6.

  25. wayne says:

kanchelskis exactly mate the year the 25% tax rate disappears Ronnie is professionally sad lol.In years past Real would’ve just paid the money but last time i checked their debt is over 400million euros and can’t get help from the banks whose own practices are under scrutiny

  26. wayne says:

Costas footballers don’t live in the real world mate, just want more and more,i’ve been saying this for years the only way to get ticket prices under control and give any sports player a wake up call is a fan strike.
It’s crazy most normal peoples wages have stayed the same or even lost ground over the last 10yrs yet footballers wages have gone through the roof along with ticket prices.
Fans can blame owners as much as they want for ticket prices but it’s just a fact in any sport the more players make the trickle down effect to the fan
Fucking NHL are in dispute again honestly i’m sick of the players and owners fighting over billions when it’s the fan who’s getting fucked

  27. wayne says:

LOL a betting line on why Ronnie is sad 1/3 more money that’s fucking funny

  28. samuel - united WE stand says:

Vidic looks a bit off his best and understandably so, he’s been out for nearly a full season. Needs more work to get back to full fitness, you could say the entire team does. We sure do need to defend better as a unit and apply more resistance to the flair we have. Hopefully we’ll see improvements as the season juggles on.

  29. Dev says:

Honestly, how man games have de Gea played with Vidic that he deserved to be dropped for one minor mistake?

How exactly is Lindegaard a superior or even viable alternative?

Lastly, if United intends to play like Barcelona, dominate lesser teams from the kick off and aim to out pass opponents, how is it de Gea’s fault that the defence couldn’t defend, the midfield couldn’t hold the ball and string together 3 passes, and the attack barely outscoring the opponents?

  30. Andykong says:

Was de Gea dropped or was it a case of Lindegaard needing some first team action? Ok, so de Gea could have done better for the second Fulham goal but he certainly made up for it with a number of important saves in the last 10 mins.

  31. wayne says:

Andy DDG was dropped, everyone knows he’s a great shot stopper but at that level can’t be that timid with crosses, doesn’t matter if he makes 6 great saves a game and one blunder,it’s the blunder that will always be highlighted. At a elite team goalies have to be pretty well mistake free game after game.

  32. kanchelskis says:

    @wayne

But Lindegaard can’t be mistake-free either. His kicking from the floor against Southampton was atrocious. Gifted them possession about 5 times.

  33. DreadedRed says:

  34. Busby babes says:

I did intially think lindergaard was preferred for tactical reasons i’e lambert’s aerial prowess, in which there’s still a question mark against de gea in that department, but if he was dropped for his mistake against fulham thats fergie showing his ruthfullness.

  35. DreadedRed says:

    Ah, the fullness of Ruth!

  36. Andykong says:

@wayne. Its true that a level is expected but surely more trust needs to be put in players. By swapping keepers game after game is going to disrupt the flow at the back and shatter confidence. You could see de Gea and Evans for that matter grow in confidence last season with a run in the side and their performances picked up too.

  37. Busby babes says:

    Dreadedred

apolgies if i spelt that wrong:-)

  38. wayne says:

kanchelskis not saying Lindegaard is mate just pointing out DDG’s problems.Sir Alex said Lindegaard looked nervous that’s bound to happen if keepers realize one mistake could mean the boot.
Not sure Sir Alex putting that kind of pressure on either is going to help just a fact of life for a goalie at that level, either one or both will deal with the pressure or Utd will need another goalie, just can’t have the goalie making regular blunders no matter how great some of the saves may be.Like i said little shocked DDG doesn’t look any different from last year

  39. Saturn says:

It was also the anniversary of Ronaldo`s dads death that might also have something to do with it.

  40. wayne says:

Andy i kinda answered that in my last post and agree,we’ve seen a changed Sir Alex by buying RVP he wants the title back this year losing to City has really brought back the toughness back.He isn’t going to babysit anyone including Rooney or Nani.
One of the goalies needs to step up to the challenge if neither can handle the pressure not Utd goalies

  41. wayne says:

Saturn Ronnie said it was professional sadness not personnel

  42. DreadedRed says:

Busby babes – no apologies required mate, ‘ruthfullness’ is a great word anyway!
I am inspired by the fullness of Ruth.

At kick-off, I also thought that Anders was drafted in for the high ball, although I wondered if it was necessary given Rio’s return with Carrick’s added in front of him. We played without an LW, so Evra had to get well forward. We could’ve perhaps done with Jones/Smalling at RB.

  43. mara says:

I will tell you only one thing…even RM cant compete with arabs…so my opinion is that if Citeh would give him big money he would go there…100 % sure about that…
In EU market only player wich is similar to Scholes is Eriksen…he played bad in Europe championship so he cant be to expensive…it is time to get him…

  44. Saturn says:

Thats y i said it might have wayne but these things do build up.

  45. mara says:

And about gossip about Damiao…why we need striker? we need midfield…

  46. wayne says:

With Utd having two small fullbacks added emphasis on a goalie who will take charge.Bringing in bigger fullbacks lose something going forward, whether it be Jones and Smalling on the right or Evans on the left

  47. Busby babes says:

    dreadedred lol appricate that:-)

Think that’s a good shout to be fair, the manager did make refrence to the back post attribute southampton pose speaking after the game, stating they worked on it in training, may be if either had been fit they would have started at rb.

  48. FletchTHEMAN says:

Vidic has some sensible comments. The defense have really only played together a couple other times this year. Time to get the lads together and come to an understanding and confort zone. Swapping out the keeper can’t really help either. But it will have to come to that for the cups at least.

What is really the problem is how much time the ball is in our defensive half. We should not be allowing so much time, and giving away so many free kicks. Teams at the bottom end of the table live on set plays. Stoke made a study of it.

Sort out the midfield and it will go a long way to sorting our defense.

  50. DreadedRed says:

wayne – just a guess, but perhaps de Gea is on a ‘slow-bulking’ program of sorts, to cater for the last spurts of youthful growth. Surely United want him heavier as soon as sensible. Of course we can’t wait for that. It’s a fine line between success and failure, and quality keeping is essential.

The two keepers have been pretty much rotated since Edwin left, fitness notwithstanding. My interpretation is that both will play regularly, abnormal as that may seem to some. Having two quality keepers prepared to work together is perhaps offset by the impermanence factor affecting performance. Replacing Edwin with two keepers is tricky, but better than our methods replacing Schmeichel.

  51. Sparkz says:

If you wanna stop your midget full backs from getting targeted…you have to stop the crosses coming in and around your area. Which means you have to move the play higher up the pitch. Which means you need to press with a slightly higher line.

Problem is, I don’t think we can play a higher line with Rio and particularly Vidic at centre back.

  52. wayne says:

Think it’s fair to say Utd’s defensive problems started when Van Der Sar retired

  53. Marq says:

Well, United couldn’t work with DDG specific to his built because he wasn’t even with the club. He was away with Spain for the Olympics. So it couldn’t be helped.

That said, I really hope he gets braver coming out and try to take everyone out. He may be on the receiving end, but at least he will make a statement of intent. So go on now DDG, fly out and take out everything infront of you, living or dead

  54. DreadedRed says:

That is a fair comment wayne, understandable too.

Losing the best keeper in the world will always have a knock-on effect, no matter the Club.
We’ve also had the injuries, almost eliminating any chance for a new unity to evolve.

We need a long run with steady selections available. We have great potential at the back.
We just have to keep them fit!

  55. wayne says:

DreadedRed you might be right mate but he looks exactly the same to me and he’s 21 now not really a Youth anymore, when going for crosses more times than not looks like a schoolboy against men, just surprised Utd didn’t address it through the off season

  56. wayne says:

Marq unless he bulks up by 10-15lbs he’s going to get pounded and probably injured. He’s 6′ 4” and looks about 170lbs wet through.Didn’t need to be at the club just needs to be on a fitness program, should have been ongoing from last year. The kid looks great but without that confidence and command won’t make it at Utd

  57. Busby babes says:

It’s a risky assesment in some respects rotating keepers, understanding, communication, are just 2 key elements needed between your back 4 and goalkeeper. that what leads to a rapport between the 2 games

  58. DreadedRed says:

wayne – if Fergie is also disappointed at de Gea’s lack of weight gain, and that his bulking must accelerate, then that is perhaps why he’s not playing. The extra gym work and hearty meals (in powder form?) may need longer breaks between games.

  59. iced earth says:

after hulk for 50m£ and witsel for 40m£,zenit are after nani according to reports they are willing to offer 30m£

  60. Jay says:

Ferguson would not hesitate to make a Ronaldo bid, if Ronaldo was set to leave but it is very, very unlikely. Ferguson said he is the only player he would spend £80 million on, he would just give them Rooney, but to be honest I don’t think it is anything to do with money. I don’t trust Perez or Real Madrid as they can be shady.

  61. Marq says:

    Wayne
That is provided Spain have the same intention we have. Building up mass the right way is not a simple thing, involves piling on the weight & strengthening it correctly, or else it will be unbalance & the tendency to get injured is very high. So unless DDG has a personal fitness coach who follows him everywhere, its not going to work. Took Ronaldo 2 years for him to be built like an ox, and he is a crazy fitness buff. So I reckon DDG will only be ready in 2 years time, unless they feed him some miracle pill and he works harder than Ronaldo

Point for considering. The original Ronaldo had all his injuries because he was bulked up wrongly, resulting in extreme stress on his knees

  62. brett1985 says:

Anyone who doesn’t want Ronaldo back is a cunt and an idiot.

  63. DreadedRed says:

Busby babes – I agree with that, it is risky and costly rotating.

When we went for two keepers, I think we knew that both would need games, no matter what. Tomasz had leapt out of the window, and we needed a quality reserve keeper. Gambling on the very young de Gea, meant that it was probable that he would struggle occasionally while learning his trade. The reserve keeper was never going to be a 10-match-a-year player. He would probably have to step in for extended spells. Thus, a low-risk late-20′s keeper with proven ability and a team-ethic was bought.

But, Lindegaard cannot be expected to step in regularly and effectively unless he has a well-practiced and current unity with our defense. Our goalmouth-sharing methodology was born when we bought de Gea, who will go on to become as great as those who saved before him.

  64. wayne says:

brett1985 what a statement, the only cunt and idiot is you

  65. Vidic says:

The thing with Utd is that whenever a team doesn’t give United space and and put pressure and close Utd down, then we get outclassed, and we just have to say they were the better team e.g. Bilbao , Barca etc. so what i am tryin to say is that Utd not having a defensive midfielder we should make it harder for teams facing the defence and DDG, e.g. put pressure on teams so they cannot play it out from defence therefore give possesion away.

  66. DreadedRed says:

brett1985 – I presume that you fall outside that “cunt and an idiot” group?

Is everyone that wants Ronaldo back a warm and wonderful human being?

    Or a clever-dick?

  67. wayne says:

Marq he’s been with the club over a year and nothing seems to have changed that’s the alarming thing for me,same as the under 21 games for Spain he looked shaky at times.

  68. brett1985 says:

No I am just a pragmatist who does not let the most petty grievances get in the way of the fact that Ronaldo is an amazing player. This, whilst others say things like ‘he didn’t track back’. No shit, he scores 42 goals in a season instead. Or other bollocks such as ‘he loves himself’ or ‘he arrogant’. This is the kind of nonsense that people buy into. Folk who would rather have 11 loyal no hopers than players with talent.

I’m not being clever, I just think that people place very minor points at the top of the agenda. He is a great player and there is plenty of room on our flanks for him. By the way, not going to happen anyway.

  69. Dev says:

Is Lindegaard really better than de Gea in the air?

  70. Jay says:

We don’t need to argue over Ronaldo, some people would have him back and some people wouldn’t let’s just leave it at that. Saying that Ferguson would have him back.

This Russian team is pissing me off trying to touch our Nani, they are trying to get our Nani on the cheap, don’t they no Nani is expensive, our Nani does all types of tricks, anyway Ferguson is not selling.

  71. Zino says:

Brett, what kind of a comment is that? All that just for not wanting a particular player back? Truly astonishing! If we the fans are the ppl responsible for his return, it may be understandable that we are denying you a wish but seriously that was uncalled for bro

  72. Marq says:

    Wayne

Well, some people just never gain weight, perhaps DDG is one of them. Can we clone abit of Ronaldo’s gene and put it into him? =p

  73. DreadedRed says:

brett1985 – was your first comment just an attention-grabbing teaser?

Ronaldo is a great player, an asset to any team. I lust after no player, and never have.
I don’t mind discussing them, but unless they’re at United it’s all a bit boring.

Ronaldo comes with a lot of baggage. Perhaps he should follow Beckham’s footsteps.

  74. wayne says:

brett1985 no hopers what the fuck are you going on about, you saying Utd are full of no hopers lol.Obviously you’ve never played any sports because team unity and working together is what wins games, nothing worse to team moral than having a greedy selfish cunt.Yeah he scored a lot of goals but since he left so has Rooney the difference in goal output is minimal and whatever anyone thinks of Rooney he works hard on the pitch and it’s clear to me already RVP is in the same mold.
You’re just talking shit every summer with Ronnie was drama will he leave or won’t he,fuck him and his ego and vanity.I’ll take 30+ goals from Rooney and RVP every day of the week thanks

  75. Zino says:

Just saw your second post… Still doesn’t make your first comment any less of what it is!
As for the reason(s) for not wanting ronnie back, nobody denies his supreme ability. Some just don’t believe in player making returns. But why slag a fan for holding a grudge(however the size) against a past player for his attitude in his last season with us? Not saying i am carrying one (life’s too short)

  76. Jay says:

@brett1985 you are spot on, our very own Rooney was arrogant enough to hold the club to ransom and criticise our players to the point that Ferguson had to go on TV and you could see Ferguson was clearly upset. I had never ever seen Ferguson like that ever. The only difference with Ronaldo and other players is that he is open and doesn’t hide his personality, that’s also why I like Ibra too, there is no bullshit around them.

In the same year that Rooney said he wanted to spend the rest of his career at Manchester United he handed in transfer request so he could go to our rivals which is far worse than anything Ronaldo ever did. 150 goals in 149 games I would gladly swap Rooney for Ronaldo.

  77. Zino says:

Can’t remember who made the comment, but ronnie’s ego has skyrocketed since he went to madrid. Will he have taken sitting on the bench (as a result of bad performance/fitness levels) like wazza in good stead and even smiled at the cameras? Or we would be hearing how he was treated like a ”slave”? In his last season for us, don’t know how hurt he was but he subbed himself out of a game for crying out loud! Only to return the next game!!

  78. DreadedRed says:

‘Michael Owen was at Stoke’s training ground today to put the finishing touches to what will essentially be a pay-as-you-play contract. The only hurdle to overcome now is the Premier League agreeing Owen’s registration for Stoke’s 25-man squad before the 5pm deadline.’

‘The deal will be a basic 12-month deal, with the promise of a further year if he passes a set number of appearances. He will be earning a substantial basic wage with substantial incentives for goals.’

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/stoke-city/9520735/Michael-Owen-joins-Stoke-after-agreeing-a-12-month-deal.html

  79. Zino says:

Not saying rooney’s attitude is/was better than ronaldo’s but imagine how it would be after saf calls it a day… Ronaldo’ll be out before you say JACK

  80. #07 says:

Ronaldo and Rooney are both self-centred. Rooney’s PR just played the media better. Play football in the park for free? HAHAHA.

The difference between them is Rooney’s a great player but Ronaldo is a once in a generation great player. Rooney will be remembered up there with players like Figo, Van Nistlerooy and Ronaldinho. Ronaldo will be remembered up there with Di Stefano and Cruyff.

If we’re willing to put up with Rooney we should be willing to put up with ‘slave’ aka the artist formerly known as CR7. His goals could win us titles. Football is a mercenary business these days. As fans we should accept that and welcome back Ronaldo if we can get him…

…Unless there are plenty of other players out there who can score 60 goals a season and stuff.

  81. wayne says:

With Rooney it was one year and sorted in a week,i’ll never forgive him but with Ronaldo it was every year. The link to the Ronaldo article said Utd gave him 5 pay raises in 6 years as a fan we had to live with constant speculation.
It wasn’t just that it was his hissy fits and acting like a baby on the field every time something didn’t suit him.Having Ronaldo in a team comes at a sacrifice of a lot of other things and players,of course the end product should be he’s the star that’s all he wants doesn’t give a fuck about anything else

  82. Busby babes says:

    Dreadedred

I agree m8 im also in the beleif that de gea will go on to become a great goal keeper for us, he’s a young goalkeeper has you’ve touched on, so will have aspects of his game that need to be improved on.

  83. wayne says:

Yes but in terms of team player there is no comparison between Ronnie and Rooney,Rooney will play any role and work hard whereas Ronnie would just pout and sulk.

  84. wayne says:

#07 he never scored 60 goals a year for Utd,as soon as he left Rooney started banging in more goals because he wasn’t sacrificed for Ronnie, their output as the main man is similar and i daresay RVP will score more goals than Ronnie did at his time with Utd as long as he stays fit

  85. Zino says:

Would rather have a player of his quality on my team than against but all in all, i’d prefer if he didn’t come back to england.
Sure doesn’t make me any of the things you threw out

  86. Costas says:

Fletch in our Ch.League squad. Get in.

  87. parryheid says:

    Dreded Red.

It’s not a case of rotating,he was quite simply dropped and justly so.

  88. Zino says:

Of course. Who can forget how many times rooney was played on the left and had to defend in order to make ronnie happy? Will ronaldo put his ego aside if the end product doesn’t suit his personal target of HIM scoring goals? The endless speculation about his future……. The transfer window was almost like a torture routine for many united fans and when he eventually left, many were relieved the madness had come to an end. Him saying ‘i miss manchester, my friends, blah blah’ is only as a safety net just in case something goes wrong…. He’s gone, ain’t coming back

  89. DreadedRed says:

Great news about Fletch! Thanks Costas.

  90. Sparkz says:

    @ Zino 16.54:

“Can’t remember who made the comment, but ronnie’s ego has skyrocketed since he went to madrid.”

That was me, and I think that makes me a “cunt” and an “idiot” as well according to Brett!

He is a brilliant player, but as Wayne said, there was a whole “will he won’t he stay” saga around him on a regular basis. He never helped matters with his cryptic statements. I personally think we should have let him go in the summer of 2008 like he wanted to. By making him stay another year, he tarnished his image a bit IMO. The hissy fits, the quotes….who remembers the game vs Sunderland where he just stropped off the pitch during a game.

The other reason I wouldn’t want him back is because its a backwards step. We’ve spent 3 years building a new team, what sort of message is it sending to the youngsters and new signings if we bring him back? Think of how Nani and Rooney have stepped out of his shadow, how the likes of Valencia, Welbeck etc have come in….bringing back the star from our previous team is a no no IMO. He’s a club legend, but going back is never a good thing!

And in case anyone brings up Scholesy….his was a different case, he wasn’t someone who would have the team built around him and didn’t have a super large ego.

  91. Ash says:

Ok I have one doubt which is bothering me. I am in no way doubting Sir alex;s decision but he dropped De gea because of his mistake then why isn’t he applying the same rule for evra. Evra has been our liability more often than not, So why isn’t he getting the axe? Just came to my mind

  92. Busby babes says:

    Parryheid

In fairness i dont think we can afford to keep doing that, we need continunity at the back.

  93. DreadedRed says:

parryheid – the fact that he CAN be dropped is proof that our rotating-dual-keeper policy exists and is effective. He was dropped because he can be dropped. The same applies to Lindegaard, although I guess you (hope or) expect him to to retain his place for some time.

  94. Costas says:

    The link:

Bebe isn’t on the list.

    @DreadedRed

No problem. Like Nick Coppack said on twitter, it would have been a surprise if he wasn’t called up. It’s still doubtful that he will feature in any games, but since he’s already on the comeback trail, it doesn’t hurt to include him. The 6th game is 3 months away, so hopefully he will have made a lot of progress by then.

  95. Busby babes says:

    Costas

Echo them sentiments m8 anything fletch related will be regarded as a bonus:-)

  96. Costas says:

Here’s what I don’t get about Ronaldo. His boyhood dream was to join Real, right?. Yet the lovefest only lasted 3 years and the (rumored) reason is money. Something just doesn’t smell right.

I wondered about this a while ago and it’s even more relevant now. If United offered Ronaldo 150-200k per week in 2008, does anyone honestly believe he would still demand a move to Real?

  97. parryheid says:

    Dreaded Red.

I do and but for an ankle sprain I reckon he would have been in for the remainder of last season when he deposed DeGea.then we wouldn’t have conceded that first half injury time goal at Etihaad because Lindegaard would not have been standing behind Tevez.

  98. wayne says:

Gives everyone hope that he will make it back someday, also must make Fletch feel good and keep his morale up to keep battling

  99. DreadedRed says:

My gut-feeling is that Fletch won’t let his gut feeling gut his career.
He certainly has the stomach for a fight.

  100. wayne says:

Costas no i don’t mate it was more money and a better tax system that made him leave. The boyhood dream was all bollocks,i’d had no idea Utd had given him 5 pay raises in 6 yrs.
Now Utd are beginning to pay the big wages and the English top tax rate is better than Spain, all of a sudden the grass isn’t greener

  101. FletchTHEMAN says:

  103. DreadedRed says:

parryheid – that injury did come just as it looked like Lindegaard had the inside track. If anything, it solved the Manager’s dilemma in that de Gea’s youthful confidence could easily have suffered had Lindegaard proved hard to drop.

To be fair, de Gea wasn’t a bad keeper by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps Anders would have prevented that first-half injury-time goal, but there were plenty of saves David made through the year which Anders may failed to keep out. Looking at specific moments, we are able to compare their strengths and weaknesses. They’re both great keepers, Lindegaard is well able to hold his own as our full-time keeper, de Gea is early on the road to greatness. Somehow, Sir Alex will improve both while they share responsibility that includes extended runs in or out of the side.

  104. FletchTHEMAN says:

Got to appologize. That’s last years list

  105. DreadedRed says:

Tomasz Kuszczak with a late run at greatness?

  106. Zino says:

    Lol sparkz, cheers!!
Costas, i believe he still would have left because back then, due to the tax system/bank loan brouhaha, real would have bllwn whatever we had to offer ronnie financially outta the water. SAF sensibly didn’t see the need in feeding the monster and decided to let him go. 5 improved contracts in 6 yrs? In the words of inzibbie….. WOW!!!

All good FletchTHEMAN! A classic blunder, but well saved by your reflection.

  109. gazzer says:

I loved the quote about RVP getting a head on a Nani corner – “an achievement in itself”

  110. Costas says:

Michael Owen joins Stoke. I fully expected them to go for Heskey instead…

    @Wayne

I am leaning towards the same myself. I won’t critisize him for it (God knows he’s not the only player), but for me it’s always been obvious that money has been the main driving force for his decision making. Which works good for him in the long run, but imo he wasted a few years of his prime at Real. Should have waited before he made the move.

  111. TonyBee says:

Dreaded ..i bow before your talent….fucking bastard

  112. Costas says:

    @Zino

I think that’s a fair point. Real probably would have surpassed whatever offer we made. And we wouldn’t have entered a bidding contest anyway. There definitely was a financial allure for Ronaldo at the time but like a few of us said, he grass won’t be greener. ;)

  113. DreadedRed says:

Four days ago, Sir Alex said:

“Darren’s put a lot of weight back on. He’s back to his normal weight from two or three years ago. It’s a case of wait and see.”

“We haven’t finalised the Champions League squad yet – we’re looking at that at the moment. But Darren comes into the 25-man squad quite easily, without me having to leave others out because we have a number of players who we don’t need to register because of the time they’ve spent with us as an Academy player. That’s an advantage.”

“He’s training well every day and played really well the other night for the Under-21s. If he keeps doing as well as he’s doing then obviously he’ll be under consideration because he’s a fantastic player.”

  114. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Dreaded Cheers mate.

I was actually looking at last years because I was wondering about the numbers. Thought we might have a record number of forwards this year… but NOOOO!

This years squad is actually skint in comparison.

    ONLY 3 KEEPERS!

  115. DreadedRed says:

… while you’re down there, give me a big hand.

  116. DreadedRed says:

FletchTHEMAN – We are a bit skinny on keepers.

  117. parryheid says:

    Dreaded Red.

You may well be right I am interested to see if Lindegaard maintains his place in the team on merit in the coming weeks and if not it is because of a fuckup and not because of cost.

  118. LoneStarRed says:

    @ Fletch

The link you have is to to last year’s CL roster submission. Here is the correct one: http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2012/Sep/manchester-united-name-champions-league-squad.aspx

    Cheers

  119. FletchTHEMAN says:

LoneStar….. We are both a bit slow today eh mate. ;)

Already corrected. As I was saying to Dreaded. I was comparing the 2 lists because I was amazed how many quality forwards we had. Would be the same number as last years if Keane hadn’t been injured.

  120. Zino says:

Yeah costas. A case of ‘the cow grazing on the field across’

  121. LoneStarRed says:

    @ Fletch

Indeed. It seems that SAF is banking on our lads to come good.

    Cheers

  122. DreadedRed says:

Keep up Fletch, you’re living in the past!

parryheid, we’ll obviously keep a close eye on them, so time will tell us more. I’m glad that neither keeper has disappointed us. In de Gea’s case, reasonable expectations would have been low despite his price. He will only reach the top of his game around 2020. He’s a good keeper already, but needs a couple of years before he’s strong enough. Lindegaard has plenty in his locker already, and will quickly develop a good understanding with Rio/Vidic/Evans. Surely, keeper is one of our best-stocked positions.

  123. LoneStarRed says:

DDG does look as if he has bulked up some but he has a bit to go. I agree with SAF dropping him because he does need to be more combative on those crosses. Perhaps we can get Jens Lehman to teach him how to give some of these opponents the business. The ref, Dean, was certainly allowing our players to be pushed around for quite a while.

  124. LoneStarRed says:

HELL NO we don’t want Ronaldo back. That drama queen would destroy our dressing room.

  125. Busby babes says:

    Dreadedred

Thats one postive way to look at it is that both keepers are more than capable, lindergaard at present seems to command his area better, and has more authority when dealing with crosses certainly from a physical perspective, but i feel de gea distribution is better, and also appears more agile, but does lack that physical presence

  126. keano99 says:

If ronaldo is kicking off at his boyhood “I dream” club because he’s not the highest paid player in the world do we really want that at our club? Rooney done the same thing and most of us lost a lot of respect for him because of it, but it helped us in the long run because it shocked our owners into realising u have to put ur hand in ur pocket to keep modern footballers and anyway can u imagine how much the virus will want for him? Not gona happen boys he’ll get a lovely big pay rise and come out with more lick arse statments.

  127. fergie is the boss says:

  131. Proverb says:

    Haha dreaded
£m sure he will see out his contract and comeback home on a free ;)

I’m sure that’s exactly what he meant to say

  132. medumtum says:

Dream club or not I think Cristiano always felt that Real was a step up and I think that that hasn’t exactly panned out. The dream team that Barca have assembled have proven time and again more effective in Europe and essentially stolen his thunder domestically. The madridistas are used to big names and somehow he has never managed to endear himself to the fans there, so its not all rosy in that regard. Most importantly the strong oversight in the dressing room thats always been there at United is certainly not there in Madrid, and as his ego has mushroomed so has what appears to be a sense of isolation and victimisation. Basing this entirely on what i’ve seen and read of him lately. Having said that bottom line is usually and ultimately money…which also means that he will prolly head to City or PSG if anywhere. Although city will have a load of trouble with ffp depending on how it kicks in. If Queiroz returned perhaps there could a chance of him heading back to Old Trafford since him and Cristiano were said to be pretty close, though honestly dont think thats likely either.
DDGs only problem is his inability to impose himself in the area. Thats not a small problem in the premier league and he hasn’t really bulked up enough yet, though it often appears more of a mental issue. On every other level even at this young an age, on the evidence so far, he has proven himself sharper than Lindegard. That includes his distribution, which is something rare in a gk and which i think is actually poor from lindegard more often than not. Theres no need to rush DDG, he is a long term investment, which is why i think taking him off every now and then is not as big a deal. Especially as tight as the title race has been. If DDG is to make it at United then he will have to show the mental toughness to withstand these challenges from Sir Alex. Hopefully he’ll come back stronger and wiser. But do feel we’ll have to let him go through a couple of mistakes and allow him a proper number of games for him to shine and develop an understanding with the emerging back four, a lack of which contributed to his mistake.

  133. United Till I Die says:

I don’t think he’s kicking off because of money as he’s NEVER been happy there. Perhaps the money is the last straw but the attitude of the supporters and the press is his real problem. They just don’t rate him highly enough for his liking, and to be honest why should he settle for that? He’s the best in the world ffs.

    United till i die

Agree with that m8 i too beleive that ronaldo is the best player in the world, with regards to the current situation thats appeared with his dis-comfort presently at real i guess we’ll have to wait and see what develops.

  142. Hans says:

On Ronaldo: When he left us for fascists not all of their players were ecstatic about his arrival and some never warmed to him [particularly Spanish players like Casillas, Ramos, Alonso...]. Then, despite averaging 50 goals per season he was booed by his own supporters. [Compare that to adulation we showed for him through thick and thin].

We all know that Fergie would have him back tomorrow, but considering our finances I cannot see it happen. How would this affect the current squad? Fergie would probably have to sell a player or two before this could happen.

One thing though, he would grow in my estimation, if he would come out and say that out of respect for us he would never join Shitty, but knowing that money and agents do the talking now-days, that is probably my wishful thinking. GNev is probably right. he was never happy playing for Real Madrid.

On DeGea, I thought Fergie was harsh on him. I just hope that DdG is not too disheartened by this. No disrespect to Lindegaard, but I believe that DdG is a better keeper.

“Coming home” ? when did oldtrafford become Ronaldo’s home? he’s a professional football player who used united as a stepping stone, he may have had successes here but he never came through the system, united is not his ‘home’ and any idea of him returning is mythical. United can’t afford him even if he wanted to come. He has an 100m buy out clause, forget it.

I had doubts about united pricing VanPersie away from arsenal but Ronaldo is on another level. I think he and madrid will get things sorted, don’t be Suprised if he bags a new deal.

Money plays a part but mainly, i think Ronaldo is driven by success and has shown determination to earn it and will continue to do so.

  154. denton davey says:

  168. Costas says:

    @Busby babes

Nothing wrong with his ability mate, but it’s a hypothetical situation. If we are talking about the Ronaldo we saw in 06-07 and 07-08, I’d have him back in a heartbeat. But he’s a different player now. Not worse. Just different. Too much of the virus’ mentality in him now. Anyway, Ronaldo wasn’t the first world class player to leave us. The club always finds a way to move on.

    @Wayne

Definitely haven’t missed anything in terms of goalscoring. We’ve scored more goals on average in each of the last 3 seasons, compared to Ronaldo’s last. In my opinion, the one thing we’ve missed is the fear factor a player like him brought to the table. It’s not something you just pass on to someone else.

  169. DreadedRed says:

dave – do you have an opinion on anything other than wayne?

  176. Costas says:

    He’s just a rude cunt.

    @Wayne

Rooney was one of the few players left that had that aura. And I guess you could say Nani had it at times. RVP is definitely a welcome addition in that regard. Hopefully Kagawa will too.

    @Zibbie

Lets hope so. Defence wins you titles as they say..

  177. Zibbie says:

Team players is so right! The 3 of them, I see a floating rotation of the 3, that will strike fear, a big old scary factor.

  178. medumtum says:

Ronnie isn’t as much of a miss in the Premiership, but I always felt that his goals were immense in Europe. Somehow we havent been as effective there since Rooney has had to carry the burden alone. Domestically one or the other of our players has usually stepped up.There really wasn’t an effective replacement for Ronaldos overall abilities though that allowed us that incredibly fluid formation that the continental teams found hard to cope with. United have certainly moved on although I do feel someone like Hazard or Moura (in a couple years’ time) would have given us back that edge. Having said that I think that most would agree that even more than Ronnie the players we missed most in the big European nights were Hargreaves and then Fletcher. And recent additions don’t seem to have changed that.

  179. wayne says:

With regards to goals m8 your bang on the money in terms of missing is goal in-put or not we have seemed to have scored more in his absents, that’s there in black and white cant dispute that. but along the way again has you’ve rightly touched upon on we’ve missed that fear factor he brought to the fore, that expolsiveness, etc.

we have let world class players go in the past, but not any who we’re rightly acclaimed has the best in the world, and certainly not with their best years ahead of them, although ronnie did seek pastures new so on that note that was more self imposed, but with regards to his mentality you’d like to think it’s nothing fergie could’nt iron out,

  192. Zibbie says:

I have been a big Kagawa supporter from the first rumors. His 1st year at Dortman Gotez was the man at the 10 spot. He played in the 2 in front of the back 4 as a attacking force, as well out left and some 10. His 2nd year Gotez was hurt and he became the German league player of the year at the 10 & LW.
I see working in just fine.

  203. Rai says:

Loads of things Ronnie did pissed me off. The whole “dream move” speculation every summer, the solo celebrations when providing an assist, the hissy fits etc….BUT, he is a fantastic professional in terms of the effort he puts into his football. He’s one of the most complete footballers of his generation and if we’ve taken people like Micky Owen and Van Persie both at 29 with a previous record of injuries, I’d be happy to have Ronnie back.
Put him on the plane, bring him back from Spain….VIVA RONALDO….

  220. DreadedRed says:

Is Bebe not eligible as a young player?

  221. Rai says:

That’s the main problem with the green and gold movement, too localized,TV rights, sponsorship etc just beginning to dwarf gate revenue. There’s millions of fans like you and i who have the cable packages, satellite radio etc just stands to reason the importance of the live football fan becomes more and more diminished

  241. wayne says:

  242. Marq says:

I think the only thing we are missing from Ronaldo is his pace and ability to beat a defender towards goal. Valencia is the closest we have but he goes out wide instead. There are games where we just pass & pass without headway and if a player can jus suddenly beat his defender it would force the opposition to reshuffle and open up

  243. Rai says:

Marq – Also the ability to shoot from anywhere with either foot. Kagawa looks like he can do it from just outside the box just hope he carries on doing it and doesn’t get caught up with everyone else trying to walk the ball into the net. Yes Ronnie was greedy, but sometimes you just need someone to fuckin shoot. RVP will hopefully be another who’ll get goals from distance.

  244. Marq says:

    @Rai
Good point. Chelsea have Lampard, City have Yaya & even Liverpool have Gerrard. Players who look to shoot will force the defence to close up to them leaving more space behind. Rooney used to do it, but for some reason stopped doing it. Nani can do it as well, but his inconsistency is keeping him out of the team. Young only has a single type of shot in him, so not as dangerous

  245. jeet says:

Zibbie – did you get my message? Read between the lines – Moriarty still loves you!!!

  246. Dev says:

Ok, this Lindegaard love in is getting fucking ridiculous. For someone that is supposedly more commanding in the box, he made one decent aerial save in the match vs Southampton, and left Rafael to deal with a long ball while staying on his line.

Even if he is better aerially, how is he better than de Gea over pure shot-stopping ability, distribution and one on one situations? So we sacrifice a more capable all-round goalkeeper lacking in one area just for an improvement in aerial ability? Hell, even Lindegaard isn’t a huge improvement in that aspect.

This situation reminds me of the Berbatov saga. Just because he doesn’t chase down lost causes, shouts a bit and wave his arms around he’s suddenly less capable and “lazy”.

If anything de Gea is a much better all round goalkeeper more suited to playing at the back of a defence that cannot defend (yet, hopefully that’ll change soon) and a midfield that cannot dominate or distribute. Let’s not forget his heroics post Chelsea 3-3 draw (yes, that double save) over a stupid miscommunication error in a match we won anyway.

  250. lordrt says:

Bolt will sign for MU ;) well at least for a friendly next season from what I’ve read…
Back to the current squad, Vidic lost some physical presence after being out, and he needs to get back to the gym to pump up some muscles back and recover his steel build. The keeper problems however are still here, even if DDG saved many in the Everton game and against Fulham, but he still lacks the commanding presence of a Schmeichel or VDS and again has problems with the aerial balls, which every team in the league will exploit fully if the coaching staff do not take any steps soon, and Lindegaard as well was not that commanding in the last game and so far no cleansheet at all after 3 games for Utd. Am also beginning to doubt the 4-2-3-1 formation being used with 2 defensive mids present but missing the impact on the frontline in the process with only Kagawa trying to hold the ball and get passes to RvP. Surely it can be changed to a more 4-1-3-1-1 with one being CM in the 3 line, while Kagawa plays the AM role behind RvP, thus basically giving Carrick the DM role while TC or Scholes takes up the CM role, with Nani/Young and Valencia on the wings, until Rooney is back.

  251. FletchTHEMAN says:

Fletch – no Suprise there, the sun inventing fantast stuff. I bet neil custis is behind that bullshit, as if neymar would come to the premier league.

  256. samuel - united WE stand says:

Lordrt – The club knew the gamble it was taking by signing de gea. He’s no where near the finished item like van der sar, he’s still adapting and therefore, he won’t be fully commanding his box yet but you sure know those coaches are working day in day out with him, i still think he’ll come good. De gea can do all the spectacular stuff but what he needs to add is the basics of goalkeeping. The premier league is one that tests a goalkeeper in every way possible, he needs to learn and fast. Calamity will not be tolerated, more focus and improvements need to be seen.j

  257. jeet says:

Fletch – if you read that article carefully, it concludes with how “rooney’s place is going to come under more pressure”. Essentially, cooked up bullshit served to further the ABU agenda.

  258. samuel - united WE stand says:

I have to agree that de gea is the better all round goal-keeper at united. His inexperience has not helped in terms of smoother transition to united but still feel he’s first choice, don’t think lindegaard possesses anything out of this world to really stake a claim even though his self belief will say otherwise. Anders still a very good keeper but de gea has the potential to be world class and for that, i think the club will do all it can to make sure he fulfills it.

  260. Capitano says:

EPL seems to be the future, La liga is being fucked hard by economic situation in Spai. I always wonder how massive United would be if it sold it’s rights like they do in Spain? “it would be worth about £5billion club, considering it’s fanbase across the globe! But that also will mean other premier lge clubs will struggle financially, just like in Spain, therefore am not opposed to the current form where by, rights income are shared across the board. What is needed now is to push this FFP thing, if Uefa can’t do it then should be done by the FA.

  261. Rai says:

    Rooney – The ultimate professional(!)

  262. samuel - united WE stand says:

Anyone Suprised davide petrucci was left out of the champions league squad?. Felt he was coming on along well but maybe he needs to work harder and as for lingard, he apparently now sees himself as a central midfielder, which is very interesting as i’ve always thought he’d be further forward but he’s made huge strides. Larnell cole, nick powell, tunnicliffe, lingard. Good nucleus of younger midfielders, all looking to impress in appearances they may get.

nice to see marnick vermijl there as wel. I think he’s got great potential.

Finally, wonder what are the chances for joshua king? Explosive with blistering pace and power but can be erratic at times, perhaps he will get chances in the cup games to prove he’s capable of making the next step.

  263. samuel - united WE stand says:

Rai – to be fair, that’s hardly einstein genius to know wayne puts on weight. It’s his genetic make up, he always has to work a lot harder than most to keep trim and sharp. Rooney, i’m guessing requires a special fitness regime of his own. Rather than lambast him, i’m more understanding. The only thing is, he needs to realise he can’t fully just eat whatever he likes after the season ends but i’d Hope he’ll soon be back to his best by the time he returns from that injury, that’s if the ABUs can also cut down the ridiculous rumours with no foundation about him.

  264. FletchTHEMAN says:

Samuel, Also gutted for Will Keane, but the lad is injured and can be added back in January if warranted.

But very surprised about Petrucci. Don’t know what to make of it.

  265. Proverb says:

Manchester United have moved quickly to dismiss a newspaper report that they tabled a £38 million deadline day bid for Neymar.
If you see this story anywhere it IS NOT true.

  266. samuel - united WE stand says:

Fletch – if not for that injury, will keane would be in the first team this season. Let’s hope he’s made of tougher character and is on the way back.

Petrucci one is very Suprising, could he be going on loan? i doubt it, he’ll get chances in the cup competitions i’d hope.

  267. FletchTHEMAN says:

Samuel, I had Petrucci as a sure bet for a loan. Not sure what the rules are for late loans but think it is still a possibility. But I don’t get the CL list. What is the down side of putting him on it?

In the EPL, LC and FAC there is no issue. Any registered academy lad can be brought in at any time. But to have so many U21s on the CL list and not list Davide seems passing strange.

  268. Costas says:

    @Rai

Thanks mate. Well since we heard it from the horse’s mouth, I admit I got it wrong. Rooney should have been more responsible. I know where he’s coming from. I can put on weight very easily and I’ve always sacrificed with my nutrition for that reason. But he’s a 27 year old pro and he should know better. Heck, how many times has he returned for pre season without gaining any weight? Don’t know what went wrong this summer but I hope he learns from it. You can still stop training without gaining any weight. 7 pounds in 3-4 weeks means that he wasn’t paying much attention to his diet.

  269. samuel - united WE stand says:

Fletch – i personally felt a premier league club may come in for him for a loan spell but that never happened, he may still go to a championship or something though so who knows.. I agree, always thought any young player qualified for role in the champions league squad automatically but apparently, you have to be born in 1991 and beyond, which would make him eligible or maybe not? he’s probably been sacrificed for another player, i’m not sure.

We probably shouldn’t look much into it, could be a number of reasons why he’s been left out but at 20, i want and hope to see him making that next step up. He possesses the qualities and we don’t want another pogba saga, petrucci is more level headed it seems so i’d expect him to kick on. Like i said, other cup competitions are there, hopefully we can last longer in it to give these younger players games.

Anyway though, i’m not Suprised wayne has turned to eating Shit after the season, anyone playing with that england team would.

  272. TonyBee says:

  273. Costas says:

    @Samuel

Lol, well, they say people turn to food in times of depression. If playing with Carroll, Downing and Henderson doesn’t make one depressed, I don’t know what will.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the media. The Berbatov situation this week proved that they are still willing as ever to stir up shit, but when it comes to Rooney, there’s little they haven’t done already. I think we’ve grown immune to Rooney speculation by now. Things will never be as bad as they were at the start of the 10-11 season. And the injury came at a good time for everyone involved, as it turns out.

Costas – The quotes were taken from 2009 I believe not this season.

  278. Marq says:

I believe the quote is not for this season. But if he had weight problems then, he will have it now. So it is still an issue he will need to deal with

  279. jeet says:

He even went along [on his book] to say
That the boss after last seasons boxing day win over wigan 5-0, approached him to talk him about the weight

I agree with @costas, its from a recently released book

  281. Proverb says:

Wayne Rooney has admitted his recent spat with Sir Alex Ferguson isn’t the first occasion the pair have been at loggerheads over the striker’s below-par fitness.

‘As a striker I need to work hard all the time. I need to be sharp, which means my fitness has to be right to play well. If it isn’t, it shows,’ he said in an extract of his new book ‘Wayne Rooney: My decade in the Premier League’ in the Mirror, who are serialising his latest autobiography. It would probably be different if I were a full-back. I could hide a bit, make fewer runs into the opposition half and get away with it. As a centre-forward for Manchester United, there’s no place to hide. I’ve got to work as hard as I can, otherwise the manager will haul me off the pitch or drop me for the next game. There’s no room for failure or second best at this club.’

‘I’m happy at Manchester United, despite the downs that sometimes take place at a football club. Like when we stuff Wigan 5-0 on Boxing Day I go out for dinner with a few of the lads, and our other halves, to a hotel. The next day, the manager pulls me up and tells me he’s not happy and doesn’t feel I’ve trained properly. He fines me, but there’s worse to come. I’m dropped for the next game, on New Year’s Eve, against Blackburn.

‘At a lot of clubs, people wouldn’t bat an eyelid at players having a night out six days before a game. But that’s the difference at Manchester United and a mark of the high standards the manager demands. It’s a big deal, another lesson learned.’
And Rooney also knows his body is not as durable as it used to be.
‘Physically I’ve taken a bit of a battering over the years; being lumped by Transformer-sized centre-backs or having my muscles smashed by falls, shoulder barges and last-ditch tackles, day in, day out, has left me a bit bruised.
‘When I get up in the morning after a game, I struggle to walk for the first half an hour. I ache a bit. It wasn’t like that when I was a lad. I remember sometimes when I finished training or playing with Everton and United, I’d want to play some more. But football has had a massive impact on my body because my game is based on speed, power and intensity. Like any player I’m fearful of getting a career-ending injury. I could be in the best form of my life and then one day a bad tackle might finish my time in the sport. It’s over then. But that’s the risk I take as a player in every match. 284. United Till I Die says:

Obviously the League is most important, followed closely by Europe, but I wouldn’t mind seeing us go all out for the FA and Carling Cups. Our young talent need to prove themselves in the tournaments where they’re guaranteed to start imo. Anything else could breed complacency and its hard enough fighting that in the first choice team.
