Red Matters is available on Amazon Canada for $9 but for me to read it have to buy a kindle for $140,i still like books just old school i guess

That Daily Fail piece on Dennis Schofield and Ryan is the pick of the bunch for me. A great read and confirms by several things Ryan has said over the years.

I wish they had checked one thing that I have never really sorted in my own mind. That has to do with whether City ever had Ryan signed to any type of contract or other wise on their books. He did attend their Center of Excellence camp, but that isn’t quite the same thing.

But this does a nice job of filling in some of the rest of the time line. Very good read.

wayne, I have a mac and just learned that you can download a kindle app for the mac. Imaging you can do it for what ever computer. So this means you can read Giles Wonderful book for only the 9 quid. I’d say you are running out of excuses mate. ;)

I know I did after finding out about this app.

That piece by Daniel Taylor is so good it just might get him a peak back in the old trafford press room!
    Well, probably not!

Ryan Giggs is the … “first footballer to reach the mandatory coaching qualification for Premier League and Champions League managers, the elite-standard Uefa Pro Licence level, while still playing. It has taken Giggs six years in total. Even getting his ‘A’ and ‘B’ badges is an example of dedication given the number of hours it takes, never mind for someone already in the business of trying to win football matches. Not too many people recognise Giggs as a realistic contender to manage United whenever Ferguson retires. It should not be discounted.” 8O

  6. King Eric says:

Absolutely Giggs should not be discounted. He has seen the inner workings of Fergie and the dressing room for 20 odd years.

  8. The Scottish Wonder says:

I remember after the CL win in ’08 i thought Giggs should retire. He was almost 35 and had won 10 PL titles and won CL in his last game, scoring from the spot in his last kick. And breaking the appearance record in the same game. It was just too perfect.

That was five years ago! Boy, was I wrong.

Since then he has played 172 games, scored 22 goals, won PFA player of the year award, and the PL twice (and hopefully the third will follow shortly).

    That is just amazing

  9. Den says:

United Players with most points-per-game are

    Johnny Evans 2.71
    Rafael 2.64
    DDG 2.63

It’s interesting given the fact that RVP is supposed to be the player who wins us games!
Johnny Evans has the highest points-per-game in the league!

    @Saab

Haha, Berba being Berba. True that

On topic. News has it that Sir Alex will move up to director position when he retires. Well, its good to have him around, but the new man has to be big enough to handle his presence. But I’m all for Sir Alex staying, although I would prefer an ambassador role more

  11. NBI Red Onion says:

Fully focused on getting the 12 points lead in the pocket tomorrow.

SAF said No Jones. Which is not surprising, does anyone know if he will be fit for RM?

  15. WeAreUnited says:

@wayne and others, this is why Ronaldo is a United-legend.

For those who have been there reading my comments and others that don’t agree well, this is what SAF says about him, and that’s why I don’t think him leaving is any bad for his legend-status,
even though I understand that it’s a big thing to say, but he did his best at the ground and gave everything for us and now still shows respect towards us.

To come at the age of 17, develope yourself for 3 years and then give 3 great years, help United get the PL trophies and the CL also and many others, and then become the best in the world in an United shirt since GeorgeBest, deserves to call him a legend.

Reading SAF’s comments you will recognise what I am trying to prove, that him leaving doesn’t mean anything, cause you hardly get 2 years, not to mention 6 years from a foreign player.

    SAF:

‘You have to remember, he came here at 17 and developed himself into a great footballer.
”We are proud of the part we played in his career.
”To get six years out of a boy when he comes to us at 17, we have done very well.”
”He always had a hankering to go to Real Madrid at some point in his career and we helped him on that way,” said Ferguson.

”It wasn’t disloyalty. I got another year out of him when he wanted go the previous year.
”He honoured that and did fantastic for us and then went with our blessing.
”My way of looking at it was that we were lucky to have him for six years. The United fans would share that.”

    peace.

  16. King Eric says:

We Are United. Alright mate. Yeah and Ronnie was lucky to play for United. Great player but a legend he isn’t. Not for me anyway. Not even close.

  17. zigoo says:

ronaldo is a legend..voted 5th best player of all time uniteds had last yr in our magazine.

what he did from 2006-2009 and the goals, assists and trophies we won,he must go down as a legend, just because he left after 6 yrs,it does not make him any less of a legend, especially when you consider that we probably would not have won the champions league without him.

also fergie said giggs will play on tuesday….i love giggs n glad he got his contract…but wednesday he must NOT start….if he starts int he middle with carrick…we can kiss goodbye to the UCL this year.

  18. King Eric says:

Zigoo. Yeah voted by who? Younger generation that’s who. Charlton, Best, Robbo, Keane, Eric, Scholes and Giggs to name 7 rank higher than Ronnie.

  19. Sushi says:

I’m curious does anyone know what beckhams plans are for when he retires? I should think we
Could interest him In an ambassadorial role at united. His commercial value and recognition alone are worth it even if he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. I don’t
Know what his standing is with the club having worn one of those LUHG scarves but I doubt it was that harmful to his chances

  20. FletchTHEMAN says:

I would say that Ronaldo was one of the most skillful players but he was not at the top of his game for much more than 2 years with us and the short time of his contribution led to relatively modest productivity gains in terms of trophies.

Still, he ended his career with 3 EPL titles, I FA Cup (though not contributing greatly) and on 1 CL trophy.
In addition, we achieved a CL semifinal and 2 final appearances in his last 3 years. Which is hard to sneeze at. The real problem with Ronaldo legacy is character which soured me, and others I would wager, to his budding skills. United gave a great deal to Ronaldo and I feel he needed to give us a few more years to earn our complete respect.

For these reasons, Ronaldo only makes the bench of my United XI
He does move up to a starting position for my EPL XI. Just sayin!

That said, He is a looooong way from being a Legend for me. Competition is just to high.

    Cheers.

  21. wayne says:

WeAreUnited lol mate you’re persistent as King Eric said just can’t rate as a legend,if he came back might be a different matter.Brilliant footballer but first time round just caused a lot of shit, last year at Utd knew he was leaving how many times did he lie about staying? his heart was never at Utd and in the end left for a bigger pay check, that’s not legend material mate. He’s one of the best to ever put on the shirt but that doesn’t make a legend.

  22. WeAreUnited says:

Fair enough guys, and I know to call someone a legend is a hard piece to swallow, he gave us 3 great years! cause even at his final season which wasn’t for some “Ronnie at his best” ( I don’t buy that) we went to the CL final and he was the main contributor for that ( Porto, ARsenal anyone?) and won the PL.

At his first 3 seasons he was 17-20 WOW! and he did well for his age. Then he took the world by storm at the ages of 20-23 AMAZING. Yes! he should have stayed, but we knew it, SAF knew it and God knew it :P that he will go to Madrid.

Ronaldo- Legend – The downfall of time.

I compare him to Cantona. I will take alot of stick for this, but I stand behind my words, and I have supported United over a decade (a little when you compare with some hehe) so I am not from the Ronaldo-era. Anyway, that being said I hope you read this, like I read your comments and kindly respond with respect.

The two are very similar and bare with me before you curse me, Firstly The number 7 of course,
Cantona made us again a team to compete and you can say the same about Ronaldo, because before Ronaldo hitting top-form, we won our last PL in 2003 and when Ronaldo hit top-form we gained it back in 2007 and held it for 3 seasons. Same happened with Eric Cantona from 93-97 and last was 1967.

The difference is, Ronaldo came here at the age of 17 as a Portuguese and played for 6 years and achieved everything and wanted to fulfill his dream. (why not) and Cantona came here as a French when he was older and retired here.
So basically, if Ronaldo lets say would firstly have established himself as a young kid at the age of 17-23 at Madrid and came here and did what he did again at the later age and retired here, he would have been considered a legend.
BUT he was young and wanted new experience after achieving everything with us. So he couldn’t retire here like Cantona who had to retire because of his age. That’s Cristiano Ronaldo’s downfall and why many will not consider him as a legend even though in this New Age football nothing is saint and rarely players stay and retire.

  23. WeAreUnited says:

Cantona who had to retire because of his age.

well he was 30, but you get the idea :D

  24. Andromeda says:

Fergie’s response at Mankini libe saying United are were lucky “its not lucky, as we were doing it for over 25 years, its a terrible habit.they are lucky to be 12 points behind”
    what a perfect response!!

  25. Andromeda says:

    **jibe**damn typo.

  26. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Legends
    – The Legends of this Team Dream about United and what United could be.
    – The word Legend is not earned by anything a player could possibly do on their own, Rather it is a Title bestowed by Fans, upon a very very select few who Fans believe embody the very very very best that this club has to offer.
    – Some Legends gave this Club the last full measure …… of their very lives.

    Ronaldo? He’s NOT all that!
    – Dreamed? ….. He Dreamed about the freaking virus.
    - Acted THE very definition of a petulant SOB in well over 50% of his public appearances for this club.
    - Embarrassed the club repeatedly and needed to be publicly coddled by a manager who is beyond measure the only reason for Ronaldo’s greatness with us.
    - Great player on his day, and when he felt his oats, but the word ‘legend’ DOES NOT FREEKIN’ APPLY!
To even suggest that Ronaldo deserves a fan title for the meer fact that he had a good season, or 3, just does not show proper respect for the truly select few who have taken this club to heart and transformed it, or the role of fans in bestowing this title.

He can join a hallowed short list of gifted players who gave us a few good years but didn’t seem to transform the club or endear a long lasting love of the fans. Players like Ruud, Sparky, maybe Tevez for some.

Gifted player, might have him on my FIFA12 or footy manager, NOT a legend.

  27. King Eric says:

Don’t get me wrong Ronnie is probably best player to play for United for those 2 seasons but far from legend. Becks is further up the list for me. Put in shift after shift for years and years,.

  28. King Eric says:

Ronnie is not in the same league as Eric when it comes to grabbing games, scoring HUGE goals, inspiring those around him, his charisma. Eric had the lot.

  29. King Eric says:

Fletch – Oh I loved Sparky mate! Players like Ole, Irwin, Pete, Nev are higher up the list. Good posts pal.

  30. FletchTHEMAN says:

King Eric, Cheers mate. Loved Sparky as well, but he was enigmatic to say the least. God the 80′s would have been bleak without that man. Wonderful player, but like Ruud for me. Made me want to by my ticket but lacked the sense of what he could become to step up to the next level with us. Going to Chelsea didn’t help, managing City probably killed it.

A bit like Rooney for me. Interesting that both have now given 10 years to the club yet inspire such mixed emotions.

  31. WeAreUnited says:

Guys no problem with your comments, I respect your opinions cause clearly you have been lucky and able to follow United more than me, but that doesn’t make you a better judge, and this is not a diss or me being disrespectful, but generations change even though I was lucky to watch the team after 98-99 squad even though tv-rights were a bit different in those days.

Anyway, @Fletch you say “Rather it is a Title bestowed by Fans, upon a very very select few who Fans believe embody the very very very best that this club has to offer.”

Well Zigoo came here and showed us that fans actually have voted Ronaldo as a legend. So you dismiss those votes? @King Eric already did that, because they are a new generation. Well It doesn’t go like that, just that you don’t like what they have voted, it doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t count. How do you know it’s only the new generation? And btw that new generation will keep this Manchester United club going, and we need to show them the way.

Believe me guys, that I really get what you mean, but I just don’t buy what you’re saying about Ronnie:) He was young and wanted to leave, SAF himself, our own ManUtd icon, came and said that it wasn’t disloyalty so why you or us as fans think it was? SAF knows the players better than us and he told us the truth behind the transfer-saga.

Yes there are those you mentioned that are higher than Ronaldo, I also count Becks higher than Ronnie, but if something, he deserves his title, if he’d come here later and did what he did when he was younger, well you would consider him as one. Forget his antics, hell Giggsy isn’t clean, Cantona kicked a fan, Ruud left like an asshole, Best was an alcoholic, but if we look those things, no player is a legend.

On the pitch they all were and are. But let’s agree to disagree guys, great talk!
    peace.

  32. Redneck says:

It is a contentious issue the one of which players deserve the status of legend. There are obviously going to be some different opinions depending on the time span the individual has followed the club over. For me personally it is not necessarily the level of skill the player has but his commitment to our great club, season after season. Ronaldo for example is for me the best player in the world, but legend no. That’s not to say he hasn’t earned a place in our hall of fame of great players, but legend? A true legend must have that special affinity with the fans, a player who is completely committed to United. Robson, Hughes, Cantona, Charlton, Keane, Ole, Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Edwards, Law, Best, Neville, Irwin Bruce and many others would run through brick walls for united and fans always recognise this and love them for it. I know that there will be some players that I have mentioned that some will not agree with and some will put forward different names, but it just shows how many special times and memories we all have over the years. Long may it continue.
