Man Utd News 24/7

Did Fergie really think sparky was overrated?
Can’t wait for Fifa 10 to come out on PS3!
Hurr
i dont think hughes is over rated
but i look at ruud or a andy cole and when i see mark hughes football playing life ,yeah maybe a fa cup in blue, but the guy did nothing really outside the manchester united team
A video for Giles Oakley if he’s there
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG6W2F_iERM
i think patrice is spraying sulphuric acid on the argie cunt..thinking that should make his face look bearable..
i still cant believe owen playes for united
i never taught id see someone who played for liverpools name on the back of a united jersey
thou i do remember the Jerzy Dudek jerseys
I remember after 3 shocking games on the trot for liverpool v united where united won people where getting Dudek no.14 on the back of their replica keeper shirts.
I don’t believe for a second that Sir Alex thought that Hughesie was overrated and was only brought back from Barca to please the fans. Why would Fergie sign players to please the fans?? He doesn’t. End of.
Mark Hughes was a fantastic player for us and was obviously pissed and feeling very bitter about his time at United being over when he was speaking to Big Ned!!
Smithy99 sir Alex said he put an offer on the table for tevez mainly because he knew how over the guy Was at united, he was gonna sign a player who could do a job because the fans wanted him
Great articles, especially the review on Giggs’ performance!
As long as he remains Man City’s manager, I will not like Hughes. Period.
as long as he’s a twat i will not like hughes. Period
I think sparky took it personal wen saf sold em, i dont think the boss didn’t rate em just sour grapes from hughsie.
It wud be interesting if scott done a poll to see if most united fans still think sparkys a legend.
hi just a quick note i read yesterday that ronaldo is already unhappy at real and wants to come back.i know its a bunch of bollocks but its also ironic after the years of having to put up with weekly rumors about him going to real the shoe is now on the other foot, got a good laugh over it
GHTT, I don’t know what to say, I just loved seeing my name there on Emily’s latest hit chant, meant a lot to me, so many thanks to you both. Oh, good luck at the Big School, Emily, hope you don’t come across too many bitter blues there. If you do, just say”4-3 mate”…
On whether Fergie rated Sparky or not, it was clear there was tension for a while before he went. The breaking point was when Hughes wasn’t in the starting line-up for the vital last game of the season against West Ham in 1995 when if United had won instead of drawing 1-1we’d have been Champions for the 3rd season running (Blackburn having lost to the dippers on the same day). He came on in the second half but couldn’t deliver, having see Andy Cole miss a hatful of chances. But I have long thought Hughes was deeply insecure inside that artificially cool, quiet voice. Rememebr how he left United in 1986 to go to Barca because he didn’t think Big Ron fancied him either. There’s a pattern to this, which means either it’s that insecurity that drives him on relentlessly to success, or he’s actually weak, and there for the taking.
To say Hughesy was over rated is just silly. He was a fucking cracking player for us and got us out of the shit time and again with some belting goals. Always performed in the big games particularly at Wembley. Hate the cunt now though.
Giles Oakley
on the chant
i wanted to do a 60s chant for ya a long time now
on hughes
I think your right about the insecurity of hughes
didnt like the returning cantona didnt like the in form andy cole
thou he missed a bundle against west ham if it wasnt for his 2 second half goal aginst coventry a few days before the league would of been blackburns before the west ham kick off
so he went to big ron who knew him and wanted him because he wouldnt fight for his place at united but he quickly found out he’d to fight for his place in barca but at least he still had the managers backing when ron left
the guy didnt seem to have a chance and came back to united.
I remember seen an interview with Sir Alex Ferguson and when asked about so many former players becoming managers he said the only one who did who he never taught would become a manager is mark hughes and he had a bit of a long answer to back up his reasoning but long story short its because he was shy and insecure
GHTT, you’re right about Hughes’ insecurity about Andy Cole (and those vital goals at Coventry). And about the shyness. Gary Lineker had to take him under his wing when they both arrived at Barca at the same time. His wife used to feel sorry for Sparky as he was all alone, couldn’t learn the language and was a little-boy lost, which is why he failed there.
thats why i can never see hughes been a manchester united manager
when Sir Alex retires it will be the biggest job interview in the history if english (and maybe bigger) football history
and unless hughes is just handed the job then its not gonna happen
Yer know, it’s amazing the lengths some folk will go to retain even a smidgin of credibility to what is plainly blind prejudice. Then even more amazingly how they set themselves up for ridicule by NOT going in-depth enough to justify it.
This Guardian bloke, Taylor, not content with slipping in something I’ve not heard as a truth yet – that Ferguson was thanking the 4th official for the extended time added on when sharing a gag with him – he then goes on to produce a 3-season sample of United benefiting, as he headlines it, from more added-on time at OT if they are drawing/losing, than if winning, when the second 45 minutes are up, than all other Premier League clubs.
Yet there is the barely examined codicil of United having an average (he gives his figures in total seconds plus fractions of) below most others throughout this period, and in this season itself so far, having the lowest of all teams.
But, that’s not even the most deceitful aspect of this article. It’s fine playing around to manipulate stats into a convenience in support of a personal bias, over a chosen period; but why just 3 seasons? Why not since 1992-93 to present?.
As gullible as he thinks most of us must be who follow United (to be “fair” to him, he’s actually only pandering to the petty hatred of all ABUs), it’s worse still how untruthful from selectivity this article is.
If you’re going to do a study like this in order to prove either a premeditated or unconscious bias from officials in favour of our club and ONLY our club, then to make it credible you MUST be in-depth enough to at least SEEM impartial.
He says nothing beyond these convenient comparisons and overlooks observations easily made to provide balance; for eg, in games when United have been drawing/losing before added-on time has taken effect, if United have gone on to win in these periods, or drawn and/or gone on to win, how often has this happened and at what lengths of time into added-on time have any United goals been scored?
That is, where draw-achieving or winning goals HAVE occurred, how many occasions has this been WITHIN the designated amount of added-on time and exactly how long into it in each case? Otherwise he’s saying United get just enough added-on time, then referees blow the final whistle – which is preposterous. Can you recall an instance of that? I can’t.
And finally of course, Taylor totally ignores how games at OT pan out in the following way: if United are being held to a draw or losing in the later stages of the second 45 minutes, most opponents will be attempting to time-waste and/or make disruptive substitutions (fair enough – all clubs do it), while United invoke their legendary never-say-die spirit leading to similar tactics by opponents in added-on time, thereby requiring the referee to supplement it.
You really can’t get through to folk a simple truth: if in trouble United will go all out to rescue the situation late on and in added-on time. They are probably the best at doing this.
It is a genuine quality United teams have had in the past 2 decades. Most other sides do not and THAT is THE most significant factor in all of this.
As I’ve already said unless and until the likes of the Guardian’s Taylor can prove ALL United’s draw-achieving and/or winning goals in added-on time over the past 3 seasons have led to an immediate final blast of the whistle from any referee, he should shut the fuck up.
