It was a great month for us, and it's so good to remember some of the great goals we scored in Jan 08. The "best FK" that SAF's ever seen (as he put it himself) of course, but also some of the most brilliant team-goals, like the one v. Birmingham (Tevez), the third v. Newcastle, or the first v. Pompey (both Ronaldo). The team was in an excellent form. Ron scored 6 in 9 games (or 7 in 11 if you include the SA tour), but my favorite moment was his back-healed pass for Tevez to score the only goal of the Birmingham game. It was not only the skill, vision and creativity from both players that fascinated me, but also the understanding and how they read each other's thoughts in a split-second, making such an elegant, unpredictable, breathtaking move.

Alan Smith, 'quality'?

Are we talking about the same Alan Smith who, when fit, struggles to get into a side flirting with relegation?

There are plenty of players out there who are great for grafting (especially non-leaguers), but graft alone doesn't (and shouldn't) get you into the United side, otherwise you'd have a queue of United fans stretching down Sir Matt Busby Way and all the way down the A56 into town looking to present their CV to SAF.

Also, Three-Lung Park has a better claim to that tag than Alan 'As soon as I knew Man United wah in foh me I knew it wah t' club foh mee' Smith.

loved smudger . absolutely gutted when he left . if there ever was a player bought just for ''grafting'' it was him . not to say he didnt have some quality too - remember his goals against arsenal -charity shield and norwich soon after ?

smudger plus carlitos would kick the meanest defences off the park . too bad they never got a chance to play together

Never liked smarmy Smith and hated the thought of him pulling on the United shirt. Obviously I had sympathy for him when he broke his leg, but that was about it. Can't fathom why such an average Leedscum player was talked about so much, let alone given a standing ovation ( I thought we were giving it to the lads for their performance)

You mention Rio's goal; it was only because the guy behind us started chanting "Rio!" that I actually realised it was him (thought Danny had finally scored, lol!).

Call me crazy but i always felt that Smudge got sent off on purpose.Remember the standing ovation he got?I wish he still played for us.Other than that January saw United's best performance of the season and the best goal of the season.
