Manchester United have been handed two dream cup ties in the past week, facing hated rivals Leeds and City in the FA and League Cups.
With our hatred for Real Madrid growing steadily over the past few years, could we be in for meeting them in the first knock-out stages of the Champions League?
Cristiano Ronaldo hopes not!
“I don’t want to play against Manchester,” he said. “It will be a strange feeling if I play them. Mr Ferguson helped me a lot in my career. I was there six years and he taught me many things. I keep the same relationship with him. He’s a good friend of mine. I still have the same friends. I speak sometimes with Rooney, Vidic, Ferdinand, Nani, Evra, Anderson.”

Man Utd News 24/7

want it or not I dont trust football draws enough to believe anything but United -Madrid game
Wont be in this round. Might happen for the semis, assuming both teams get there.
i so want us to meet them and kick their bottoms outta the c.l
I hate madrid but dont want to play them. They have class players and that performance against Barca showed that they are a force to reckon with along with barca.no wonder they are the favourites.
I hate them
I want to play against them but there’s one problem MADRID CAN’T TO CATCH UP TO THE QUARTER-FINAL LoL ManU4Ever!!!
I want to play against them but there’s one problem MADRID CAN’T TO CATCH UP TO THE QUARTER-FINAL LoL
ManU4Ever
it was his decision to go, not as if its not what he wanted, maybe he has finally realised that madrid are not such a special team like the one he was in, he didnt appreciate it so hopefully united do play em and beat them.
It won’t happen this year. Maybe next
@alek red devil: “ManU4Ever”? are you joking
You know at some point Real Madrid are going to face United! It is not written in the stars im going by chance!
United in the next 5 years i expect looking at the quality we have will be in at least the quater finals of the Champions League!
Looking at the Team Real have, i think it would be unlikly that they will not be in the Quater Finals more times than not over the next 5 years.
You dont put together a team with as many great players and i do call them great, Kaka, Ronaldo, Raul, Alonso, Ramos, Casieas (however Spelt!) Benzema…. All of the above if were at united would pay a big part in our season and be very effective!
At the moment i have mixed feelings, never can i remember so many Reserve Players at such a high level. Come into the first team and play like seasoned permiership players with real quality!… The future is certainly bright for Us! On the other hand i dont know how many seasons fergie has left!…. I just wish he could go on for ever!!
People are also talking about a great United v Leeds game and a Man United v City Semi in the leauge cup!
FOr me both dont excite me! its another day for us whilst our inferior Rivals it will be like cup finals!
Leeds are a low league side which we should brush aside easily!
City – Lets face it! Its in the league cup, which we treat as a competition to play our reserve fringe players to give the youngsters experience. I hop fergie continues and we see the same level of Youth as we hav previous round!…… If we loose its great experience for them, If we win we put shity out with kids!… Win win situation ifyou ask me!
On another note!.. Isnt it lovely the number of Games Tevez has played so far for city!… Remember his Rant, (didnt get enough games for united?) in a season which he played more games than robinho!…
Tevez.. Im glad your warming the bench at city!….. You are not missed my little argie runt!
Perez and his ilk are a bunch of monopolistic hypocritical cunts who pump in a third world country’s economy into building up a football team. I have hated those jokers right from the Zidane-Figo-Raul days. Be that as it may, on the football field they are good. Really good. I dont think any defence in the world would say they are comfortable facing Kaka-Benzema-Higuain-Ronaldo. It’ll be two tough, tough games and probably a spectacle to watch for the neutral. But I wouldn’t be too thrilled to face Madrid.
Would love to play the fascist bastards. Aig. Hi mate. Have more faith . We are well capable of beating those heartless mercenary cunts. I actually didn’t think they were that good the other night. That isn’t rose tinted it is my honest opinion. No fluency or cohesion.
We made it tough on ourselves after the Besiktas and CSKA games, so now there is a real possibility we might finish second and face them in the last 16. I think Platini would definitely love it. I will go out on a limb and predict that if United and Real are eligible to face each other, they will definitely be drawn agaisnt each other. My hunch.
Not that i am afraid of them by any means.
trevor – Hi pal. Playing Dirty Leeds and Citeh does not excite you? Fucking hell mate I cannot wait. Huge games.
Yes we may all not like Real but there is no question that if we do draw them Ronaldo should not be booed. 6 years of amazing service and once he left has not said a single thing bad about United unlike that runt of a striker we sold to shity.
King Eric. Hi mate
I have faith in and we can definitely beat them but given the players we have you have that wee bit of fear for sure. If rona, kaka, alonso and the rest can turn it on they can decimate anyone on the planet. However their defence will definitely give you chances. With the final at Bernebau they dont need additional motivation
They player better at Barca and had the better chances. In all fairness they were better than what we have been against Barca the last 3 times we faced them.
However even if we dont win the CL i am fine as Scott said on tuesday. The League should be the priority.
@King Eric
playing shitty isnt exciting me much becasue the carling cup isnt that important . I look at it much as a chacne to see the young lads and hope that irrespective of the result they learn and improve becasue i dont have MUTV and this is the only time i can see these lads.i want to see players like petrucci and eikrem too given chances to impress.it will help them mature faster
As for meeting them in the CL, bring them on. Madrid are very frail at the back, and we are potent upfront… We are a well rounded solid team now days and should be able to handle attacking sides more than ever. Perhaps if we do meet them, Ronnie will be mentally affected too!
Not going to lie though, wish we still had ol ronaldo with us…
@ King Eric
To be honest for me personaly beating leeds or beeting city isnt the same as gtting one over on Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool. I enjoy these victories more.
Beating City in the leauge Feels Great.
League Cup Semi Final – Hopefully playing our reseves against a full strength man city……. If we loose, it wont be the end of the world!
Leeds…. The gap between the quality of players is too great. We should not under any circumstances loose this game!……….. If we do it will be a disaster.
Alek Red Devil
manU4ever???????
dont say manu
Are some of the people in here for real? or have they only just decided to start supporting United since 2004. Leeds is a huge game they might be down a couple of divisions but not playing them 5 years has added to it especially as they will be bringing about 12000 neanderthal scum down the m62. I got brought up on away days through the 90′s going to Elland road and no other trip even Liverpool or City was like going there. Its just a shame the draw did not come out as an away day……….. Cant wait for Warwick road that day, just hope its not a Sunday 12pm kick off.
@Tony_Oldham – Spot on mate. Some of these comments on here suggest that some of these ‘supporters’ can’t understand why there’s such a big fuss over drawing Leeds, as they see it as just a League One side. Love the comment about the neanderthals haha it’s going to be like a day at the zoo! Just wish I could fuckin be there.
And Alek Red Devil, come on man, you don’t say ManU.
But yeah, the Leeds and Citeh draws aside, playing Madrid would be good fun. No chance of playing the Scousers now, a shame but they are where they belong.
It’s a bit of a shame we were drawn with City in the semi, it would have made a great final – plus Fergie would probably have started with the likes of Rooney, Giggs and Fletcher. It would be a shame if our young players got beaten by Tevez and co. , there are only 4 trophies you can win in a season and we should be trying to win it. I hope Fergie changes the team a little for those matches.
Leeds (or Kettering?) was a great draw, it’s been a while.
Van Der Sar vs Casillas
O’Shea vs Ramos
Ferdinand vs Pepe
Vidic vs Albiol
Evra vs Arbeloa
Valencia vs Ronaldo
Fletcher vs Diarra, L
Carrick vs Kaka
Hargreaves vs Alonso
Giggs vs Raul
Rooney vs Benzema
Not too much between those teams in my opinion.
I think there will be pressure on us to knock City out. It’s their best chance at winning a trophy after 4 decades, so we have to ruin it for them!
Who cares about a utd vs madrid tie? I couldn’t careless really, we face them, fine we’re capable of doing the job. We don’t face them, fine, no tears will be shed. Don’t really rate them tbh, they are a bunch of talented and egoistic players but their performance in the el clasico leaves a lot to be desired.
Forget the champions league, the biggest games of the season are coming up. Leeds and city in the CC and FA cup. I simply CANNOT wait until January. I have never looked forward to a month the way I am now, fucking giddy with delight. Atmosphere will be cracking, undoubtedly there will be trouble. Expecting us to totally demolish them. I hope the lads will be up for it on the day
I don’t like the way Ron says “Mr Ferguson”. Reminds me of a former spanish mesero.
Costa your dead right the winner of the derby should win the thing
God it irritates me when even United fans refer to our great club as Man U. I really hate that.
The reason Ronaldo wouldn’t fancy facing United is purely personal – Sporting anyone? Seems to me he hates playing against former teams and like to keep the status quo between himself and the fans (& club). A Ronaldo goal knocking us out of the Champions League… probably a nightmare scenario for him (and us!).
Chances are we will be drawn against them sometime, and the possibility of it has probably crossed his mind when he signed for them. Whatever the case, a United – Madrid game is already mouthwatering enough. Add in the drama of “the return of the prodigal son” (no doubt the press will have a field day with headlines) and it’s a world-class event.
to Gotta Hate tiny tears
why not ManU? what’s wrong?
Manchester United mustn’t be referred as ‘Man U’ at least by their fans.
This term is only used by United rivals as a complete and utter insult to the club. Many United competitors would sing a song about the united air crash which claimed the lives of eight players.
Man U Man U went on a plane Man U Man U never came back again…
If you’re a Man United fan and that doesn’t get your blood boiling, I’m sure nothing will.
Manchester United are nicknamed UNITED, MAN UNITED, MAN UTD and RED DEVILS.
There are no official songs with a ‘Man U’ word nor will one lay his hands on an official merchandise using that term. Manchester City isn’t christened Man C or an Aston Villa as Ast V. Like the song goes ‘There’s Only One United’ so people will know where your loyalty is.
The term Utd is the proper abbreviation for the word United and nothing else. Why can’t some accept this and get over themselves….
The Scousers (Liverpool fans) often tease United about the air crash incident again by chanting ‘Man U Never Intended Coming Home.’ as you my friends on r.o.m. can work out what the first letters stand for.It wasn’t just chants as it was also popular to write this as graffiti.
When did this chant originate? Possibly in the 1960’s.
There was huge competition between clubs to sign Duncan Edwards when he was a schoolboy in the early 50s and there was even a newspaper campaign in the Midlands to pressure him into signing for a Midlands club, as he came from Dudley. His signing for United caused a lot of people in the Midlands to regard him as a traitor and was hate figure for them.
It was West Brom fans who first began this mantra.
Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave,Man you are manure-rotting in your grave,
The origin of Man U is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards. The Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own versions. It is strange to hear from United fans referring them as ‘Man U.’
There was literally a bloodbath up on the old Scoreboard End at Old Trafford in 1964-65 season when the West Bromwich Albion fans sang. A big battle took place with the home fans outnumbering the visiting ones and hammering them to the utmost.Get the picture?
Most clubs did try to ban the chant. After United won the European Cup , it sprang up again but this time there was also ‘Who’s that lying in the aircraft.’ The West Brom fans taunted using a United song ‘Who’s that team we call United.’
But by the end of the decade it became universal and the term “Man U” became the word used by almost all rival fans to affront United. Everyone knew what it meant. It was laughter at the death of Duncan and the Babes.Fans of Spurs and oddly enough Chelsea never sang air crash songs either.
A place where the word ‘Man U’ could spell doom was Millwall, even if you were a United fan .United played them when they were in the second division and the policemen were asked to work despite having a leave.
The League officials had even tried to stop allocating United fans a ticket to Millwall. The kick off was put forward to 11 am to try and stop all United fans from going down there. It was billed as the ‘fight of the century.’
Not one single punch was thrown inside the ground. There was even a picture in the Sunday Mirror of two United fans with “Harry the Dog” What did happen was after the match a combined force of 20,000 plus United and Millwall fans descended on the Kings Road and smashed the place up, including the football ground.
But a lot of the violence that happened with United fans around that time was usually sparked by the words ‘Man U.’
When Teddy Sheringham signed for United, incidentally he referred the club as ‘Man U’ and received a dressing down from Sir Alex Ferguson.
So, I expect the so-called Unite fans stop chanting ‘Man U’ and as far as rival fans are concerned…..
Alek Red Devil my comment which explains it has been Under Moderation which is fine by me because there are some disrespectful words and comments about manchester united and past players in it which are quotes as to why you should never use man u. you’ll just have to check back when its ok’d by scott ,if he does that is
I would fancy United to play Real in the final. Which is the better option. =D
It is something else when you leave the finest team in the world. No one man is bigger than the club here, and sometimes you have to leave to know that.
And I will like to see RM or Barca in the finals again. It’s time we give the Spanish a real game.
Hey everyone,
I’d be one of the supporters who can be considered a ‘late bloomer’, only really started following united since 97. I was born in 1985 btw.
Love the club, love the players, love the history, absolutely nothing I can find to dislike about the club. Negative footie feelings go direct to the Scousers and a certain argentine twat.
Needed some reading up on my part to figure out why we have such dislike (hatred even, for alot of us) for Leeds United.
Please do understand with United being this massive, fans all around the world visit this awesome site. For alot of us, we’ve never once watched a match at old trafford, let alone know the songs that are being sung during matchdays. I stay in Singapore, it’d be almost impossible for me to fly over for a match unless I’m very well off and have a whole lot of time on my hands. (I will do that one day, mark my words).
I don’t know whether Alek faces the same limitations I have, but I’m sure loads of United fans over here in Asia, passionate about their support for the club would make the mistake he did. For one, in Singapore, I’ve heard lots of United supporters refer to our great club as ‘manu’.
GTHH: Extremely enlightening post, I’d have to admit even though i spend alot of time reading up on United news/facts I don’t know half of the stuff u have just put down. Thanks
Back to topic: I loved Ron when he was with us, though he was a tad bit selfish. Kinda suffocated half the team whenever he started playing selfish. I’d love a match with R.Madrid though, it’s gonna be a crazy atmosphere in the pubs here if the matchup is a reality
AL – Welcome mate. Good post. Like the fact you look up United’s history to learn about the club.
AL mate thank you
Knowlage is power when your mate is a dipper
I’m just wondering if we have a lright back that can even come close to containing Ronaldo. I don’t think so.
None of them have the pace.
If he plays on the right, Evra’s got him. On the left I can’t see any of our current crop able to handle him
reddeviled egg
thats the only worrying thing mate…
but if a certain owen is back to his best by the time we meet them then i wouldn’t be too worried as he has a great engine and good strength to battle our former cr7, plus i’m sure we know some of his weaknesses not that he has much weaknesses
but other teams have been able to contain him before it will take a lot but we are united and if we show up we are more than capable of doing anyone
just ask the ‘invicibles’ from london what happened at OT last year lol
OK Gotta hate tiny tears it’s as clear as daylight
)) ManUtd4Ever!!!
))
and Gotta hate tiny tears TNX for advice
We would destroy them at old trafford and draw away, LONG LIVE RONALDO
either way, I would be interested seeing ronaldo playing us at OT, what kind of reception he has with the fans, Evra defending him….not to mention seeing him throw up his arms when Vidic tackles him. That alone is good for all of us.
on the flip side, the media will bill this match as the end of united if we lose and how selling ronnie was our end….anyway, who cares, what do they know….gloating about chelsea this year who get beat by a crappy team with their manager sitting at home:)
RE: Gotta hate tiny tears
AL mate thank you
Knowlage is power when your mate is a dipper
” Knowlage is power when your mate is a dipper”
Surely a contradiction in terms there young man?
Is young Emily getting excited over crimble?
