Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken about Sir Alex Ferguson’s last words to him before leaving as well as thanking the fans for their support.
“He said ‘congratulations’. I think he knew it was the right time for me to move on and I think he acknowledged that I needed to go,” said Ronaldo. “He joked with me and told me that with all the offensive players at Real Madrid, I’d end up playing as a central defender. That was just his way of saying ‘good luck, son.’ I did not get a chance to say goodbye to the fans but I hope they know that I enjoyed every moment playing at Old Trafford and would like to thank them for their support throughout the years. Even in the most difficult times I have always felt their support.”

Man Utd News 24/7

Well said ronny good luck wiv the rest of your carrer just not against us. tevbitch this is how you leave a club, viva ronaldooooooooo!
Tevez take note, well done CR7.
I hate to admit it, but I miss him
He was on a whole different level. Complete class in leaving compared to the prick argie. Now it’s Wazza’s time to shine!
He continues to be a class act. I doubt whether any player has given us more in six years. Goals, success, excitement and a ton of money at the end! The nice thing is Ronnie acknowledges that the feelings mutual and knows the club could have not done for a player. He came in as a boy with tricks…. and went out the best player in the world. VIVA RONALDO!
I miss him too! This particular saying is so true now… ” you never really cherish something, until that moment is gone…” Watching some videos of him when he was in United makes me realised what we are missing.. already the team look to have lost some of their “X” factor.. but, in Fergie we trust.
A LETTER TO C. RONALDO FROM JAMES DEREK PICKERING
TO BE FIRST READ BY C. TEVEZ
hey tevez ya big money grabbing disrespectful delusional no moral fat peice of lying sack of shit my next line typed is just for you to read ya money loving whore
.
Ronaldo , didnt like when you’d say you’d stay but since your gone you’ve done nothing but put over manchester united . from the players to the staff from the youth to the history from the fans to sir alex ferguson.
when i see mark hughes talk about manchester united it makes me want to forget him playing here
they way you,Ronaldo have acted towards the club you grew as a player withsince youleft has giving me more respect for you as a real madrid player than i had when you were a manchester united player because you have acted and spoke as a man
thank you
U most say so,bc united improved u as a player.Tevez take note.
he’s come out and said this time and time again. i have so much respect for him, it’s just a shame he’s not with us anymore.
Only yesterday I said I believed Ronaldo would always look back on his time at United with affection. Time will tell if he also comes to see it as the happiest time in his career. I’m glad people are beginning to see his contribution at United in a better perspective. Maybe it’s time to agree, he really was a United Legend.
STILL NO ROONEY THOU
ronny your comments since you’ve left combined with your time her should ensure your regarded as a legend for us all the best(except when you play us)
ghtt.hi mate.what do you mean by no rooney?
Yes but Ronaldo got what he wanted whereas Tevez did not… Would Ronnies attitude be the same if the club refused to sell him and made him play out his contract? I think not…
He would probably go on strike etc etc…
Anyway this was a useless statement by me but I felt like sayinng it?
Class act.
I have trouble calling him a United legend. He is United great, but i reserve the word legend for people like Best, Charlton, Law and hopefully Scholes and Giggs.
That being said, i would lie if i said i didn’t also miss him. There are times in a United game when i feel he is somwhere on the pitch lurking for a loose ball and as soon as he will get it, he will go on one of his runs. I hope he doesn’t regret his decision, but he probably will.
Ronaldo has respect, unlike the money grabbing whore of an argentinean. Hows that bench warming carlitos/
tony starks.what do you mean by that mate?tevez was offered a deal at united.he rejected it.i m sure he knws he is nt worth 25mn.ronaldos exit atleast gave us a world record fee.what did the argie cunts exit give us?tevez was a free agent.we did nt prevent him frm joining the dippers or rentboys
A.I.G.
IMENT RONNEY IS NO ROONEY
Like veira’s no keane.
I would go as far to say that ronnie was our cantona of this decade.
Now, I’m not comparing them as players or their status in uniteds history but their impact. I know when ronaldo came onto the scene our trophy cabinet was already impressive but I seem to remember our current period of domination starting at the same point he started playing at a completely different level to how he was before the world cup.
I will definitely miss him!
A.I.G – I’m just really talking about Ronnie to be honest. He got what he wanted thats why he is so happy and respectful now. Tevez wanted to be top dog here but didn’t get his way that’s why he’s behaving like an idiot now even though he has gone somewhere else.
Sorry for mentioning about Tevez I don’t like talking about him, but it was just to explain this point of mine, which in itself is a useless point!
ghtt.in terms of talent they are equally talented.rooney is more of a team man and lived in ronnys shadow for the teams benefit.
If ever i come across Cristiano Ronaldo again,i will thank him for the memories,if i ever met Tevez,i may get arrested.
tony starks.ronny never said a bad word abt the team or saf wen he was at united.he cud have left in 2006tbut stayed to prove everyone wrong and in the next 3 years achieved it.tevez was loved by the fans.given a deal after ron left.that meant had he stayed he wud have gt more games.ge left for shitty.logical conclusion tells me he went for money
hopefully see him in a united shirt again after he’s finished takin the piss out of spain. Hope he does well whenever he’s not playin united.
hmm isnt it ironic from the media, they praise tevez on how well he has done and his PR machine seems like ronaldo is the bad guy yet tevez is treated by the media like he is the good guy. even though tevez is a right jackass and ronaldo I have no problem with ronaldo good luck but I hope to hell barcelona win the league again. it would be inmoral if madrid won the league because they have just bought a team in 2 months while barcelona have built one.
never forget this moment.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzFwzz4zfyI
Glad to see it’s unanimimous here, I’ve gotten fed up with rival fans telling us what *we* think of Ronaldo. I understand why he denied that he was about to leave—it’s the same as why Fergie’s not going to let doubts over his future muck up another season.
And that’s really the only complaint. Okay, he dived, and he’s probably a prize twat if you actually meet him, but he’s also the best player in the world. He never hid his desire to play for Madrid and so fair enough, better to have £80m than an unmotivated, unhappy Ronaldo.
We all know we’d rather have the Ronaldo of 07-08 back at OT though. Enjoying his football, not yet tired of being kicked off the park every week, and simply devastating.
Tony Starks
LOL tevez being top dog is like saying park ji sung should be one of uniteds top players, tevez is one of the worst strikers in europe
Ronaldo…thank you for the memories…
Wish u the best for your career…
But I wish your club to struggle in the champion league…
As a young fan you are definately the best player to wear 7 in Manchester United that i have witnessed…no disrespect to other legendary 7 owner in the past…
Still remember your first free kick goal against Charlton Athletic…and the celebration…
No matter what club u play now and after you are a United Legend…
Costas @ 16:47 – you are quite correct, CR7 was a great player but not a “legend”.
I get irritated when people use the word so sloppily – only a select few are at that exalted level: Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton, Georgie Best, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, and probably Wayne Rooney. I’d rank CR a bit lower – with greats like Peter Schmiechel, Eric Cantona, Paul Scholes, Denis Law, Nobby Stiles, and Gary Neville. Some of the guys died in Munich would also rank there, too.
With a club like UTD, the list of great players is long but the status of “legend” needs to be kept separate so as to honour those players who were long-time contributors to the team’s success. That’s why Denis Law, who was an awesome talent, ranks one cut below for me. Similarly, Eric Cantona was a huge fan-favourite but he only played at OT for five years; one year less than CR. I’d list Gary Neville in the second tier because of his long, excellent career. I’d rank Paul Scholes there, too; below Ryan Giggs who has maintained a level of excellence for a much longer time.
For me, to be accorded “legend” status is a bit like an Academy Award for lifetime achievement.

theres a goal a player can score that can be more important than the rest
That was a great headrer ghtt but we all know wat was the best moment in the match viva john terryyyyyy!
GHTT.i agree mate..but fulham is my fav:D
To be honest – I am not sure how much Ronny really means it…I think he is just being thoroughly professional in his own way by not burning any bridges, and keeping his insurance policy alive. Look, Madrid didnt really drag him to Spain with wild stallions and money was probably not an objective for him. For all his talk of his family wanting him to play there, I dont think his heart was with us – even though his performances were (and I thoroughly enjoyed them and miss them, now he is gone). But I really dont think he is emotional about us the way a Giggs or a Scholes would be, even though he liked it for most of the time he was there. Its just that he has always known where he wants to be and is incredibly focused about it, so all credit to him and thanks for the memories. Thats all, end of story:)
Like they said about Elvis: he got what he wanted but lost what he had; in years to come Ronaldo will miss what he had at United; Franco FC and its whores will never be the same – even if he does well there (and part of me – because of how he spoiled last summer – still hopes he doesn’t ). But he has moved with dignity this year.
zsubari im glad you can watch clips of ronaldo playing for united i dont think i could bare it.
I think he respects saf, fans and the club he was happy here good luck to em.
Great player, really great. I hope he sucks at Madrid and wins nothing, but I wish him the best luck.
ronaldo does nt play well games.balls.in the last 2 years he scred in al the knockout rounds of the champions league..he has also scred in fa cup and league cup final.probably the only winger to scre 42 goals.you name it.heading .shooting with both feet.pace.free kicks.he has it all. the man who was the main inspiration in waking up a sleeping giant in manchester united football club.people said the era of our dominance was over in 200g.that main along wid saf made them eat their own shit words.all i can say is thanks ron.you proved yourself wen the whole of england was booing you and have helped this great club reach where it truly belongs.
Well said aig.
Viva Ronaldo!!!
Class act. I wish him well in Madrid. Hopefully he doesn’t cave under the pressure. I’m worried more about him having less of an impact in Madrid because he’s no longer the central figure of attack. With all of the other options they have he won’t nescesarrily be the the first to be looked for with a pass. I think he’ll handle it though. If he can handle a Hilton I’m sure he can handle a bit of pressure/change haha
That boy Ronaldo
Will make La Liga look shite!!!
willierednut.thanks mate.i still like him..okay he should nt have gone publie with his desire to play for madrid.but that does nt take away what he achieved at our club.i believe in what he says.he still loves united. and wil continue to do so
@ Gotta hate tiny tears & @ RedDeviled Egg
True words spoken by true United Fans.
All I’ll add to it is that if ever CR7 came back to OT with RM he would be given a warm heartfelt reception by the fans.
When Tevez comes back with citeh … nuff said.
denton davey – agree with most of your comments but not sure how you could say Rooney is probably a legend, whereas Law, Schmeichel, Scholes and Cantona aren’t?
If you’re saying it takes something incredibly special to be a legend, then I would say that Rooney isn’t quite there yet. Carry on like he has done for another 5-6 years though and he will be though, without doubt. Watching the lad play makes me smile… I remember we were watching a match once when he first joined and one of my mates just shouted “do something amazing”…which kind of sums up how i feel everytime he gets the ball!
The stage has been set for Rooney to shine and I hope he absolutely f**kin dominates.
Good luck son,we enjoyed every moment as well. I think one day you’ll realize that your best footballing years were at United.
Ronaldo = True professional
Take note you judas argie cunt!!!
yeh thanks a loy utd , but at end of the day i just wanted to go a bigger club!
Of course now he starts being gracious/classy/likable. How am I supposed to keep being bitter if he’s saying stuff like this?
@Denton Davey
I understand your point of view and there are more chances of you being right but me thinks it’s not the number of years but the level of impact you have which should be the criteria to bracket players…and as far as that goes Cristiano definitely is a United legend!!!
@post
well said Ron!!!
Denton mate, Dont you think Cantona achieved legend status becuase he was the catalyst that started the New Manchester united revolution ?
I agree with you with regard to your other selections and wonder who you feel deserves the top legend spot?
@ tobbe – I mentioned that goals vs fulham a few weeks ago in the “is Ronnie a legend” page. Honestly, he is a God, and we missed him big time vs Burnley.
I thank him for all he has done to keep us great, and for the class he has shown since leaving. We all know that Real will do really well, but in a Rocky-like tale the romantics in football would probably like the weakened United side to win the CL in Madrid VS Real, allowing CR to go onto win the cup years later with them.
The world moves on, but I hope he returns against us at the least. In the last 20 yrs, I haven’t seen a player quite like him in football other than Cantona and Zidane for that whole aura, the drive, the will to win, the sheer arrogence, and the talent blended perfectly with controversy. Those three players are like the Kennedies, born to intrigue, to be loved yet hated and to leave behind memories of huge controversy. They are unique to the world of football. I think Ronnie may lose that “mysterious edge” at real where he is one a several galacticos. I want him back at United where he belongs.
Ronaldo is one of are all times great and won the World Player of the Year while with our club but he is not a legend. I think a prerequisite for legendary status is seeing out the majority of your career with the club. Legends are not necessarily the best players our club has ever seen but the ones that ether change the momenteum or give their all for the club for the majority of their career.
Which is why Cantona is an exception because of what he did and how he changed our play but Ronaldo hasn’t earned it yet. Let’s see where we are three years from now and maybe we will be appreciating his achievements while with us a bit more. He is saying the right things but he didn’t always do the right thing so for now he is simply one of our best ever players.
Top legend is a hard one to answer and don’t think it is really necessary to name one. Of all the people involved with the club Fergie will be my top legend. Yes others have done great things but he is simply the best manager of all time in my opinion and no one embodies United more than Fergie. If you talk about United the first name out of your mouth is Fergie and if its not you should ashamed.
Javac – that was beautiful…
I was just wondering if ever there was a player who would love a club that much but wants to fulfill his boyhood dream – He requests for a loan to fulfill that dream. Win-win situation.
Turns out he’s a more decent guy than we thought initially.. tevezwhore blue cock sucker take note piece of shit
we may never c the likes of him again, plz come back 1 day ronny . al the best son
I usually agree with DentonDavey but on his list of Legends I have to disagree, not just about Ronaldo, but about most of his greats. How anyone can say Denis Law or Eric Cantona is not a United Legend is beyond me, if the word has any meaning at all (and I agree it’s used too sloppily). And if Schmeichel isn’t a legend, no goalkeeper would ever make it on the list.Maybe we should just drop the term legend altogether. Why I think Ronaldo is a genuine legend is a combination of the trophies he was central to winning (3 Premierships, 1 Champions Lge, 1 FA Cup, 2 Lge Cups, 1 Club World Cup, plus losers medals in I Champs Lge Final and 2 FA Cup Finals) and his own personal awards (World Player of the Year etc) and , above all, the tremendous excitement he created every time he played. Good though Rooney is, it has always been Ronaldo people have wanted to see play. He created a buzz about United which attracted even people with no interest in the game, plus he generated the hate which is the authentic marker of a true United great – jealousy, fear, loathing, grudging admiration – all the things ABUs feel about our team. In 50 years time, those like me who have been lucky enough to see great players come and go for 4 or 5 decades will still remember Ronaldo as one of the best players they have ever seen. Legends are players you don’t forget. Like Ralph Milne, I suppose…
Viva Ronaldo!
Ronaldo left with DIGNITY. Treated SAF with dignity. Thanked the club and supporters with dignity. Remembers the United fans with fondness. Remembers his time here with fondness – there is nothing more than that. All the best Ronnie – except when your playing against us
Tony Bee/Giles Oakley – Why is Rooney on my short-list of legends ? Mostly because I expect him to grow into one – he sure isn’t one now.
My “top legend” is simple: Bobby Charlton. Great player, great sportsman, and shrewd enough to push through the hiring of SAF !
Georgie Best was extravagant in his talent but wasteful in its application – and his wastefulness was a key part of the romance of his stature. Denis Law was not a one-club player (nor was Peter Schmeichel). I know that Roy Keane wasn’t a one-club player but you can’t just pick half the team of the ’90s – and Keane was the key guy’. Keane was the captain, the heartbeat of the treble team – not Cantona.
Bobby Charlton, who has a memory much longer than mine, would say that Duncan Edwards was the most talented player ever to grace OT – and his legendary status has only grown as the understanding of loss grows.
I’m rambling but my point is that there have probably been two dozen great players in UTD’s history but only some of them can be considered “legends” – all-time greats. My main criterion would be that a “legend” embodied the heart and soul of the team which is why I would select Keane as the most important member of the team of the ’90s – and, for that matter, why Wayne Rooney has been the most important member of the recent/current team.
It’s not that CR wasn’t a more talented player but Rooney’s heart and soul were more important – in my opinion.
i think tevez should put on a diaper and start playing dolls together with his daughter cause they all act the same..!!!!..
tevez..what a fuckin cunt u are..
ronny..although u’re not rooney..i still wish u the best..
Legend.legend.legend.
Wishing him all the best.Love you Ronny. My respect just increases for him day by day.I thought i’ll be bitter for the rest of my United life, but its totally opposite.Gosh,i simply love this man,the memories he’s given are the best, and i miss him.In the sense like a son of United is gone. Not in the sense that we’ll lose without him or whatsoever. We’ve always been strong no matter who’s left. It’s just that we United fan’s will miss singing Viva Ronaldo for a man who everything loved to hate except us.I think there’s a lot of us a still love him. That’s kind of just the case for all our legendary players who’s left us.EXCEPT 2 CERTAIN ARGENTINE FREAKS.Rock on Ronny, love ya.
Well said Ronny. You will always be remembered as an MU great. CR7,your conribution to the success of the club has been immense. Nobody can deny that. I’m sure you will be warmly received by MU fans when you come to OT even if you are playing against us! You left the club at the pinnacle of your career here and with dignity as you felt that you have done all that you could for the club such as winning almost all the silverware available in world football – FIFA World Club champions, Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup, save the Super Cup as you were injured at that time. For all your contributions to MU, my sincere good wishes to you to succeed at RM, and a big “thank you” to you. Your absence will be sorely felt by most MU fans. You are now CR9 at RM but to us MU fans you are still CR7. Viva CR7!!
Ya I also agree with ma fellow supporters of man utd that Ron has really acted a way that recognises his grassroots and foundation to his success in his career. May he continue excelling. Thank u Ron for always remembering Our father ‘fergie’
well said Ronnie, wish was still here but maybe the time was right. I think no matter what United offered him in wages he still would of asked to go cos what he wanted. Im happy with how he left aswell no big transfer saga like yr b4 n he has neva said a bad word about united or Sir Alex. Tevez wasnt happy cos united waited till season was over b4 offerin him his contract, tevez needed to realised that he wasnt a normal player owned by a club, he was owned by a man, he got offered wat he wanted n still said no so forget him n let him rot on the bench at city. Ppl will look back at Ronaldo as a legend, maybe too soon for some people 2 admit now but few yrs they will, Tevez will always b the 1 that left United for city under a cloud just for the money which is a shame when u look bk at how the fans loved him x
George Best was THE greatest footballer I’ve ever seen in a Manchester United shirt. And take my word for it, if you’d seen him play for us he’d be THE greatest you’ve ever seen.
And I’m referring to him as a footballer, nothing else. So no BS about other things.
2 denton… I guess if Ronnie was from England and not Portugal, you sure would’ve ranked him as THE all time united legend… now just because Rooney shows great passion and soul, you sure can’t compare it to what Ronnie has done at this club… If Rooney was from Portugal you probably wouldn’t even mentioned him.. VIVA RONALDO! nuff said.
