Ron: Owen A Good Choice For #7

Michael Owen was surprisingly revealed as Manchester United’s new number seven, replacing Cristiano Ronaldo who left for Real Madrid. Owen, who spent a year in Madrid, has been fully endorsed by Ronaldo as the new number seven.

“Michael Owen is an experienced player. He has played at the biggest clubs,” said Ronaldo. You don’t have a lot of pressure just because you have the number seven. I think Manchester United did well to give him the number seven. He’s a great player and he has everything to win there. He’s at a fantastic club, he’s a great player.”

    not completely true, ron. owen has NOT YET played at the biggest club. he IS now at the biggest club unlike you…

  2. Adam says:

    BBC quoted him as saying “he’s played at the biggest club” as in Ronaldo calling Madrid the biggest club – but if you watch the video of his interview he says “he has played for some of the biggest clubS” – just wait for the headlines tomorrow!

  3. Saad says:

    Lets hope hits the ground running and scores some goals for us… Im not sure how he’l slot into the the starting formation though

  4. Kings says:

    Owen will be playing at the World’s biggest club next season – get that into your thick skull Ronaldo. Remember who made you what you are before you start trying to belittle us by making that ridiculous statement.

  5. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    i loved number 7 for owen
    it did the the job for eric
    i got it

  6. Costas says:

    Well Adam says that it wasn’t interpreted correctly, so i will believe that for the time being. Anyway, it’s true that Owen will not feel the pressure of that shirt like Valencia or Nani would. I hope he gets us lot of goals and proves the doubters wrong.

  7. Adnani says:

    wait wait wait by giving him numver 7 is ferguson implying that he will be a regular starter??????

  8. 9jmac says:

    real madrid are admitidelly bigger than man utd. dont be denial about it and back yourself up with foolish arrogance

  9. King Eric says:

    Costas – You being one of the doubters mate!

  10. aig alex is god says:

    nt bothered abt wat ron says.i m confident owen wil suceed.he is a good poacher and everyone knows how we dominate games with a lot of possesion and chances.we used to waste lots of chances last year.owen is the perfect player to put them in back of da net

  11. Costas says:

    Yeah i am King Eric, but one can moan and complain only for so long. I still don’t believe that he is the best solution for our front line, but he is here and i want to support him. And i still believe that for tradition purposes he shouldn’t be wearing number 7, but at the moment, he might be one of the few that can handle the load. The number can’t remain vacant, because that would signify that we can’t get over Ronaldo’s loss. Wazza and Berba and Ando already have established first XI numbers, and the other players might feel intimidated by it. I would have liked Fletch to get it, but he might have declined. And on a personal note, i have always liked Owen as a character. Compared to Fowler at least!

  12. spencer says:

    We had to being in someone like Owen, who would be happy with a bench role, otherwise we would have just ended up with another Tevez situation. Only this time if it was his replacements getting picked, berbatov would have whinged.

    Talking of Berbatov, he better step up next season. I want a big improvement on him from last season. As Robbo said, he has bigger responsibilities now. if he doesn’t and has another average season, then I want him gone.

  13. Tony Starks says:

    Yeah am sure Ronnie is really bothered who plays at 7 for us… But he has to be diplomatic

  14. Dave_Pistol says:

    @ spencer, united don’t want anyone happy with a bench role, but also thay don’t want sulky little scar faced argentinians either! Berba will step up he’s class

  15. Dave_Pistol says:

    *i meant they

  16. willierednut says:

    I thought valencia wud ave the famous #7 shirt.

  17. Drew Vader says:

    I wanted to save it for Ljiac ( I have no idea how to spell it)

    But then again, its just a number. As long as Owen pops up to save our skins a few times in the 80 – 90 min, I wouldn’t give an F if he was wearing number 36789324.

  18. evras_left_foot says:

    Agh Ronaldo is REALLY making it hard for me to hate him for leaving! Unlike that cunt tevez.

  19. Red-Manc says:

    When both Ronaldo and tevez were at the club, i hated ronaldo with a passion and loved tevez with a passion.how wrong i was, although ronaldo disrespected our club in many ways whilst wearing the shirt at the same time he always produced the goods, where as tevez showed all the respect to us supporters yet none to the club and didnt really come up with much on the pitch.

    Ronaldo, for all his childish pre maddona media circus acts he has been very classy when talking about United even now he is living his ‘dream’, so i have alot of respect for him, where as tevez…..what a lying cunt.

    Owen, good player hope he does very well but even if he scores loads of goals this season i just dont understand the choice of the number 7, he doesnt have the personality of a number 7 and the supporters will never love him like we did Robson and THE KING. All the best to him though.

  20. Justice for Heysel says:

    Putting all the emphasis on the number 7 shirt is a load of fucking bollocks.
    Ryan Giggs wears the number 11 shirt and yet is just as good and better than many who have worn the 7.
    Lets get in the fucking real world and stop trying to create something major out of the 7, it was never a iconic number evdr when Besty wore it, it’s all a fucking myth.
    In my early days following Utd, no player gave a fuck who got the number 7, even tho it was only 1-11 in them days. Its only the prima fucking donnas who make a fuss.
    Keano is another example, he didn’t wear the so called magical fucking 7, yet he’s a LEGEND FOREVER

  21. stretford972 says:

    @ Justice for Heysel

    You got anger problems, bruv, noticed a couple of your posts and you always seem to be seething.

    As for the number 7, best did tend to wear the 11 more than 7 (or so my grandad used to say) and it is mainly a marketing ploy, a very good one but still for marketing.

    As for Ronaldo, I’m appreciating the support he’s offering even when he really doesn’t have to. Fuck Tevez, he was a glorified Alan Smith, who also wasn’t good enough

  22. manutdchampions2008 says:

    in my eyes what may happen if berbatov continues to fail is, rooney will end up playing on his own upfront and berbatov continues to be benched and next summer berbatov will be sold for half the price. also why should united fans buy the new shirt when the club have not got the balls to tell the fans the 80 million may have been wiped out by the glazers. its called give ind take unless the club can make some big signings united fans should never buy a shirt. seeing owen 7 is a total joke. and it may sum up the current financial situation of the club.

  23. Tonka Norris says:

    I really have a good feeling about Owen. I started off thinking he was a cheap gamble but then I looked at his record at NUFC, factored in that they were shite, and it started to look rosy. I predict he’ll get 20 goals – our game just begs for a closer and that’s his MO. He’ll be hungry and ruthless, and behind him is a well-oiled machine. This will be season we’ll tell our kids about.

  24. Billy Meredith says:

    @Gotta hate tiny tears

    She’s adorable!

    Love it when my lil nieces have got the full kit on, shame they still pick the ball up mind. :)

  25. Billy Meredith says:

    I mean… UNITED! GRRRR!

  26. manutdchampions2008 says:

    Tonka Norris there are plenty of hungry players that does not mean they are good enough and owen is not good enough for united.

  27. Justice for Heysel says:

    @Stretford972 no anger problems my friend.
    I seeth with a rightful reason.
    I did have anger problems back in the 70′s seein the Scouse Bastards winning the league on a regular basis.
    I speak the truth and thats what people can’t always accept and you BRUV sound like one of them.
    I try not to see all things on this site thru red tinted glasses, like alot of them on here and I don’t agree with people just because they’re fellow reds.
    If you don’t like my views…… Then Boo Fucking Hoo. Like I give a fucking toss.
    Your Grandad was right George did also wear the number 11 tho back in them days your wingers tended 2 always wear 7 or 11.

  28. Wayne Rooney's hair says:

    why do people always claim that Michael Owen isnt good enough, he still had a great scoring record (when healthy) and didnt he have more goals last year than Tevez?

    He is still one of, if not the best pure finisher in the league! can someone please enlighten me on why he is not United quality?

    Just watch him play and you see he is still very dangerous!

  29. theboogeyman says:

    Glazers should read this site,because it makes their search for our next manager much easier.So many people who know more about football than Sir Alex.

    manutdchampions2008,Trust Sir Alex.

  30. Tonka Norris says:

    We’ll know in a few weeks if he’s good enough. My hunch is that he will be, I think he’ll do the business. Damn, what a laugh if he shines when no one else would risk taking him on!

  31. Sash Sylvarre says:

    I’m amused at how his statement seemed to be misinterpreted by a lot of people. Owen’s played at the biggest clubs = he has been at several big clubs (Liverpool, Real Madrid and now United).

  32. manutdchampions2008 says:

    theboogeyman despite how great fergie is he cant make a horse come to water. and I just do not think nani anderson berbatov valencia owen the new french winger will be enough to compensate the loss of a player who is in the top 3 of the worlds best players in C ronaldo, it is not like van nistlerooy and beckham ronnie is special. the midfield is desperatly short of ideas creative spark and goals. united have a poor strikeforce you take rooney out of this team and it is a poor squad of players especially in midfield and attack. the midfield cant get to double figures in goals, and for a club like united that is awful.

  33. manutdchampions2008 says:

    theboogeyman also the glazers should read this site sell the club to people who are fit enough to run this club and can actually give cash to spend on players. they are lucky that between aug 2006 to present, if we were not so succesful people would be on their back even more then what they actualy are.

  34. eric belfast says:

    is this a joke?

  35. ash says:

    @MAN UTD CHAMPS08
    i dont agree with u mate that man utd would not be able to do well this season.
    theres no need to replace stupid tevez he did nothing. replacing ronaldo also is not a big deal , berba will score more goals this season ,owen will score15-20 goals and rooney i am hoping him to score more than 20 goals.
    i aint sure abt valencia whether he will score goals but he will make many assists thats for sure. nani and ando should step up .
    carrick should also score more goals. but the player i am eager to watch apart from macheda is tosic. he is a talent and he should play more games .
    but one thing fergi should sign douglas.

  36. aig alex is god says:

    @mezza

    ya mate.came to know today morning.we have cancelled that game as the players saftey is most important.Good we were not scheduled to stay there yesterday.although it is unfortun ate given our massive fan following in Asia.

  37. redbowl says:

    i live in indonesia and have supported Man United since i was 10 years old, 15 years ago. as for tomorrow i already get my ticket, flight and hotel booked. but suddenly….

    i’m speechless. but thankfully it’s not when the team is in town

  38. aig alex is god says:

    @redbowl

    bad luck.but i guess ull be happy dat the team wasnt staying there.i heard they are making arrangements to play that game outside indonesia.so dont give up hope.

  39. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Billy Meredith emily will not pick the ball up with her hands she feeks out if someone we are kicking the ball about with,
    but she never ever picks it up her self and when she runs and kicks it about 3 times in a row she get over excited and says im like rooney
    thank god united players we’rnt in that hotel

  40. aig alex is god says:

    @ghtt.

    thats the tendency children have where was yesterdays video that u posted shot?

  41. redbowl says:

    aig,

    yes, it could be worse if the team were there. thanks mate, i’ll keep my hope alive eventhough the chances are very slim.
    my deepest condolence for the victims and family

  42. RedMegleeker says:

    Refreshing bit of realism dropping into the blog for once by Justice For Heysel there, well written too and funny.

    Having a bit of vitriol and spite is nothing to be harangued for especially on a football blog.

    Its great having a legacy of brilliant, outstanding players who have worn the 7 but i’m sure down the years there have been some pure bollox players who have worn it too.

    Let it sit.

    Yep

  43. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    good morning aig
    they where recorded in the square in tallaght its a 10 minute walk away from my house and the rovers ground where ronaldo and real will be playing on monday for the first time is inbetween my house and the square

  44. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

  45. aig alex is god says:

    good morning ghtt

    looks like u shot the end part of the video at ur house.looks a large collection of united stuff.everyone in ur family United fans?

  46. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    mybrother in law whos not into football told me yesterday he’d give anything to watch the real match , this guy is 50.
    there is no way id spend my time or money to go watch that cluster fuck and it doesnt matter that its 5 minutes at the most from my front door if it was in my front garden id sit in the back room and watch mutv
    spend money to watch that shower is not on the top of my list
    i watched the newcastle match last week and it cost me a tennor for a ticket and a fiver for emilys
    its 70 quid for a ticket to see real if your 3 year old emily or 50 year old brother in law
    they ,as much as i love ronaldo, are the man city of european football

  47. Gudjohnsen says:

    Off topic – This is our new surprise signing…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1gr6I5W1pM

    Mame Biram Diouf, a 21 year old striker from Senegal, signed from the Norwegian club Molde.

  48. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Mame Biram Diouf (born December 16, 1987) is a Senegalese football striker. On July 17th 2009, Molde FK announced that they have finalized a transfer deal with Manchester United. The player will stay at his current club on a loan deal until January 2010.

  49. aig alex is god says:

    @ghtt

    very happy to hear that.u are a.diehard man utd fan.i hated real ever since they started this galactico thing.

  50. ajopaul says:

    Am not bothered who is called the biggest club and who wants to play at real madrid as a dream or not. Only thing i care is United should what they been doing — winning trophies. PERIOD.

  51. Tony Starks says:

    The No.8 on the video looks a player to, he seems to get all the assists!

  52. Stephen says:

    With Nani they will be able to start a Manchester version of Cirque du Soleil.

  53. aig alex is god says:

    Why another striker?.we have macheda,rooney,welbeck and petrucci who are the future of our club.we shud look at good midfielders

  54. Stephen says:

    I would also imagine the defending in the Premier League will be somewhat better than in the video.

  55. Stephen says:

    He looks like the new Manucho.

  56. Micky says:

    United have cancelled their Indonesian games after a bomb went off at the hotel they were meant to be staying in from Saturday

  57. CUNTLITO TEVEZ) aka (ROJO RED ROT ROUGE) says:

    I just laugh at Unreal Madrid now. Like City they think if they buy all the parts for a Ferrari they will be able to win the race. Unfortunately for them by the end of the season they will just be left with a load of spare parts for sale at a knockdown price. City will buy them I am sure all the time saying that this will be the season that is different to the last 34! Hahahahahah !

  58. aig alex is god says:

    hope he does not prove to be like manucho.was so excited wen he was topscorer at African cup of nations.my word he turned out to be a big flop.deserves to play in the championship and not premier league or Man Utd

  59. willierednut says:

    Hello ppl, SAF says hargo will back in september, signed another forward any1 know anything about em. eto’o going to inter swap deal wiv ibrahimavic.

  60. aig alex is god says:

    @CUNTLITO TEVEZ) aka (ROJO RED ROT ROUGE)

    hope wat u say happens to both city and real.they shud rot in hell.United and barca are only 2 clubs that knw how to run a proper football club inspite of being rich and having money

  61. Costas says:

    Morning everyone. Some news have made the rounds today. Valencia and Vida will join the team in Germany, Hargo will be back in late September and Obertan will be out until October.

  62. fuzzy says:

    @Costas … you forgot the news about Diouf :)

  63. Micky says:

    @willierednut

    How did you find out about Hargreaves? Link?

  64. Micky says:

    Fuck me, have you heard Tevez now? Turned down Real Madrid for City because City are buying big players!

    “There were talks about deals and agreements but in the end it was only City. They showed lots of interest in me and are intent on growing and signing big players.”

    Real Madrid aren’t buying big players then? C Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema???

    Does he think we’re stupid? It’s about the £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5437311,00.html

  65. Costas says:

    @fuzzy: Yeah i know mate. But that was mentioned above anyway. I was trying to give the news that weren’t mentioned here. Although the Hargo thing was also mentioned by willierednut. This Obertan thing is frustrating. The last thing you want on your first season is something like this.

  66. aig alex is god says:

    @micky

    Forget it mate.lets not talk abt dat cunt.seems he has lost his sense too along wid his head.

  67. aig alex is god says:

    @costas.

    thanks for the updates.

  68. Micky says:

    @aig

    I know mate..

    Apparently Tevez gets a boner when he looks in the mirror.. cos all he sees is a massive cunt

  69. willierednut says:

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/358612438?-11193 hargo back in september.

  70. Costas says:

    @AIG: You are welcome.

    I think ROJO RED ROT ROUGE’s new name best describes our dear Argie. Fuck him. Pretty soon the truth will be revealed. When he finds himself on the bench, we will see how much he bitches then.

  71. aig alex is god says:

    is this maradonna thing dat he told tevez to join city true.?

    My word played 51 games and is not happy.
    Ronaldo is making all the right noises.I always felt he respected SAF and everyone and his reasons for leaving were not money unlike this little piece of shit tevez

  72. Gudjohnsen says:

    Great news about Hargo! I hope he can return in the end of September like Fergie hopes for…

    Is Robinho also as deluded as Teve$? “Of course Chelsea is a big club, but Manchester City is also huge and we could be even more powerful than them”. Since when did City get huge? The only thing huge over there are the pay checks…Robinho should know.

    “The Manchester City fans are crazy about Carlitos,” Kia Joorabchian said.
    “They said that it was the best signing in the world – that he is the best player in the world. For the City fans, he is a better signing than Cristiano Ronaldo.”

    Teve$ the best player in the world? This is going too far…way too far!

  73. Costas says:

    Gudjohnsen, Man City are not huge. They are MA$$IVE! The best player in the world with only 5 league goals? It’s fitting! By Shity standards, that’s the best player in the world!

  74. Micky says:

    The best striker in the World scores more than five league goals a season.

    Better than Torres, Henry, Rooney, Ronaldo, Raul, Drogba (as much as I hate to say it)? No, he isn’t! He wouldn’t even get in the team ahead of Owen if he was still here

  75. willierednut says:

    carlos and kia are fluent in bullshit, noel gallagher says he does’nt want shity to sign terry because his eyes are funny and he’s a cry baby ha ha.

  76. aig alex is god says:

    hell even the fat ronaldo is in much better form than tevez.he scored 14goals in 17 games since his comeback including a hat trick in a game against their arch rivals.

  77. Red Joe says:

    Completely unrelated but did anyone else see the news about the terrorist attacks in Jakarta? United were due to stay at the Ritz that was bombed but have now cancelled. Close shave.

  78. Manutd forever says:

    Check this out guys-
    http://www.espnstar.com/football/premier-league/news/detail/item294133/Hughes-hits-back-at-Ferguson/
    Hughes is considering Tevez a bargain at 26.5 million. LOL

  79. aig alex is god says:

    @redjoe

    We came to know dis very early in the morning.

    ya we were very lucky that it happened 48 hrs earlier.

  80. Costas says:

    We were very lucky. It’s a shame this type of shit contiues to happen worldwide.

    Tevez was a bargain. Bullshitters are worth much more in today’s transfer market.

  81. aig alex is god says:

    @costas

    u have a good point.we here in india are worst affected by it.i jst hope united come to india in the future.although i m happy that united are opening cafes in india later this year,one of which is near my house.

    i will go for screening of every match.

    I agree wid Hughes.

    for such a ‘Big club’ with lots of money to waste Tevez will be a bargain.What a circus.

  82. chaosred says:

    good news on hargreaves he’s expected to be training by the munich cup. And playing by the end of september. Don’t expect midfielders to come in.

  83. willierednut says:

    Some1 shud tell sparky that united hane generated their own money, no sugar daddy at our club.

  84. porter says:

    we’ve signed a new player and nothing here?

  85. Costas says:

    AIG i didn’t know you were from India. As you said, United are expanding over there. I think they will come at some point. We are always looking for new countries to play at. I think i have spotted 1-2 other Indians at ROM as well.

  86. theboogeyman says:

    If you are talking about the bombs,Costa,imagine the scenes in Mumbai/Bombay here in India when terrorist bastards took control of 2 5-star hotels for 3 days.I had holidays from school due to rain and all they were showing was this situation.Worst part was,the terrorists were watching TVs and knew exactly what the security forces were doing.

    Prayers to all the victims and their families.

    willierednut,Our owner is the opposite of theirs.He takes away the money we earn,according to who you believe.

  87. Bettson says:

    His latest match in Norway. He scored 3 goals in the first ten minutes and the fourth after 20 minutes.

    Here another great goal from Mame Biram Diouf

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsOpuMWlvIk

  88. Costas says:

    I can only imagine Boogeyman. Living in Greece, it’s not often you come across scenes like that. We have taken somethings for granted over here. As you said: Prayers to the victims and their families.

  89. aig alex is god says:

    @costas

    u people are very fortunate.u can watch MUTV and all matches live wid our commentrators.

    Here in India we have to wait for 3 days after the match and then MUTV is shown every Monday.

    i go to screening of every game wid orkut fan club of Man Utd.
    just hope we get MUTV here in INdia.i m reday to give anything for it

  90. King Eric says:

    Morning That new lad we have got is from Ole’s old team. 57 goals in 62 games! Shit league I know. 6 Feet 1 a big lad, and joins in Jan.

    Micky – That Tevez shit is just laughable now.

  91. Sash Sylvarre says:

    @ghtt

    nice info. I hope this one turns out very well for us. Remember the last guy we signed from Molde? :D :D

  92. King Eric says:

    Hargo news is the best I have heard this summer. Cannot wait for the season. With the BALANCE in our squad now we will take teams apart again.

  93. Macheda is GOD says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtEIKEot1Js
    How about him?One last time fergie?

  94. theboogeyman says:

    Although,Costa,Greece did have something very bad happen to it in 2007.
    You were visited by the dirty thieving Scousers.

  95. Micky says:

    @Sash Sylvarre

    What was his name? Ole something wasn’t it?

  96. Costas says:

    Morning King Eric. I think Wikipedia says 30 goals in 62 games, but nonetheless they are impressive figures. Him and Ljajic will be our only January transfers i would think. A 6 month tenure in the Reserves and they will be ready for the first team for the 2010-2011 season.

    @AIG: Actually, they stopped showing MUTV here in Greece about 4 years ago. I still don’t know why. But we do manage to watch the League games here quite regulary.

  97. aig alex is god says:

    hargreaves gives that solidity to the midfield.he is a perfect CDM and delivers in big games.i think he shud take the free kicks and penalties(remember arsenal in 2007-08 season).

    dunno who will take penos and free kicks dis season.

  98. Costas says:

    @Boogeyman: Don’t remind me mate! I can still smell their stench 26 months later!

  99. theboogeyman says:

    League games are covered quite well by ESPNStar,here in Asia.Except for the fact that the bastards thought that Newcastle-Fulham was more important than the trophy presentation.

  100. aig alex is god says:

    @costas.

    u live in Greece.

    i watch all matches inspite of the fact some of them are at 1230 in the night(midweek matches) and the champions league matches are at 1 30 in the night.even though i have college at 7 in the morning.

  101. Costas says:

    @AIG: I admire your devotion mate. I can only imagine what was your mood after the Champion’s League final. Forget college, i didn’t get out of my room the following day!

  102. Gudjohnsen says:

    I agree, Hargreaves is a great set piece taker. I think Rooney or Owen will take the penalties for us this season.

  103. aig alex is god says:

    @boogeyman

    completely agree wid u.we missed the trophy presentation.also i have noticed most of the panel is anti man utd.so it feels even better wen we prove everyone wrong and win the title every year.

  104. Costas says:

    By the way, we also missed the Presentation here. It was important to show a Bundesliga game i guess!

    Hargo might be the best freek kick taker we have at the moment, but there has to be someone else. Nani is also good at free kicks and corners, but he is not a certan starter either. Does anyone know if Valencia is good at set pieces?

    @Costas

    After the final i was on the phone chatting wid my friends till 6 in the morning and we were consoling each other.

    it took me a week to get over it

    I was so nervous and afraid i could nt watch last years shootout in the final against chelsea.

    even if i miss match due to some reason i have bbc and other websites on my mobile where i keep on surfing and checking scores every 2 mns.

  107. willierednut says:

    Sparky’s had a chip on his shoulder since he left united, some united fans dont think he’s a legend nows he’s wiv shity any1 agree wiv that? Boogeyman spot on m8, the sooner they leave the better.

  108. aig alex is god says:

    i have heard tosic is a set piece expert.

    rooney misses some of penos.

    my choice wud be carrick for penalties and rooney for free kicks.

  109. Costas says:

    I think Hughes the player, is a United legend. As a manager, he is non existant for me. But i wouldn’t like to erase what he has done for the club.

  110. Micky says:

    It’s this boys turn to step up to the plate too

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-709TRnPa4&feature=related

  111. Costas says:

    Yep, Carrick definitely for the penalties. And probably for the corners as well. The free kicks will be a tough one. When they are crosses, i think we will take them short. When they have to be shots, i think we will do some kind of trick to allow Rooney to shoot directly. We had the same issue when Beckham left in 03.

  112. aig alex is god says:

    @micky

    wen nani single handedly destroyd arsenal in that game i thought he has arrived at the big stage,but again last season he showed his inconsistency.

    rooney shud practice free kicks.

    however if fit,it shud be hargo

  113. Gudjohnsen says:

    What will happen to Manucho? Nobody interested in him? I don’t think he has much future at our club. I always thought he was 22 or 23 years old, turns out he’s 26.

  114. aig alex is god says:

    @Gudjohnsen

    manucho must be sold.even 1 or 2 million will be too much for him.he does not have any quality.must be sold.

  115. willierednut says:

    @costas
    sparky was a great player for us but if he keeps having digs at SAF then ill lose respect for em.

  116. Gudjohnsen says:

    How much did we pay for Manucho in the first place?

  117. Costas says:

    I know willierednut. I don’t like it one bit either. But that’s where we have to prove we are the bigger men in this. Schmeichel also played a bit too passionately for my likign when he was at City. I guess they feel that they have to prove that their loyalties don’t lie with United anymore and they get a bit overzealous about that.

  118. aig alex is god says:

    @costas

    i think brucey is the best.he always respects SAF.i like hughes but not as much as i like Bruce.

  119. aig alex is god says:

    @Gudjohnsen

    no idea mate how much we paid for manucho but ik dnt think it is more than 3-4 million pounds

  120. Corea says:

    Long freekicks must be crosses.

  135. Corea says:

    Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes Owen Hargreaves will be ready for a first team return in September.

    It now seems that Hargreaves will join up with his team-mates when they head to Munich for the Audi Cup at the end of the month.

    “I think we are looking at the end of September depending on how he reacts,” said Ferguson. “We are happy with his rehabilitation so far and while he won’t be ready to play in Munich, he will be able to train.”

    —–

    Made my day! I adore him! Best holding midfielder in the world with ability to play wide.

  136. Costas says:

    I am glad about Hargo. I was fearing that we would have to wait until January for him. Lets hope he is back to his best by Christmas time. It will take him a while to get going.

  137. Stephen says:

    That is great news about Hargo he will be very important for us next season.

  142. Gudjohnsen says:

    We’re truly gaining a great player next season in Hargreaves. I really missed him in our big games last season, we could have used a holding midfielder like him. He can also play on the right wing (remember Roma?) and even cover the right back. Can’t wait to see him again…just hope he stays fit and doesn’t run into any more set backs.

    The only way City would get 50 thousand people to watch them train was if they would pay them to show up…actually, that’s something I wouldn’t be too surprised to see them doing.

    It seems we’re searching the bargain bin when we can buy gourmet produce.

    While I trust in Fergie I still must ask, are we being too passive in this transfer window? It seems that we’ve been buying mostly for the future and truly probably will see only valencia and owen on a regular-ish basis this season.

    Of course I’m prepared to eat my words with sauce made from my own hat, if Diouf turns out to be the black Solskjaer.

  151. keano99 says:

    only kidding

  152. Tony Starks says:

    Ha! Manchuchu – I hope u are wrong!

  153. Costas says:

    Manchuchu i share a lot of your concerns mate. At the moment, all we can do is sit and pray that the team gels quickly together and comes good. I hope that one day we will find out why we kept this stance in this transfer window. I sensed a bit if desperation on our part. Under normal circumstances, would United have ever signed an unproven player, who is surprised that we came knocking for him and whom would be out for 3 months at least?

  154. cantona7 says:

    i went to watch the training at National Stadium Kuala Lumpur. Just a training but i think about half the stadium is full. Nice. Rooney is by far the most popular.

    I’m eager to know how much do we make from Manucho? we bought him for about half a million, so supposedly we can make profit i think.

    Diouf is from Solskjaer’s previous club, that is an exciting fact indeed.

    Anyway it’s just so unlike Man United, buying cheap unproven players just to sell them back for a little profit. We never have to do this before dont we?

  155. red rossa says:

    stop givin ronaldo such a hard time about leavin like he loved united but if you were playing for madrid and united, the team u always dreamed to play for wanted you that badly, anyone of us would want the move, i hope fergie hasnt given up on signing any new players really, he should go for rossi seein as we have the clause in his contract and he’s startin to be one of the worlds top strikers, we have a good squad but need 1 or 2 match winners seein as we lost ronnie who is de best around, lee cattermole as the new roy keane!

  156. willierednut says:

    Red rossa, are you joking, cattermole the new keano he wishes.

  157. Kugelsack says:

    I’m Norwegian and I don’t follow the Norwegian League, Tippeligaen, with as much interest as the Premier League, but this Diouf kid looks exciting. He’s very raw but with extraordinary physical abilities. He’s ridiculously strong, can jump like a kangaroo and he’s very, very quick. What Ferguson and the coaching team needs to work on is his finishing and he can turn out a very good player. But even with his not stellar finishing he’s managed 12 goals in 17 this season and scored 3 goals in the opening 9 minutes in his last match. Diouf complements the strikers we already have, he’s very different from them and offers an other dimension.

    And the news about Hargreaves are awesome!

  158. Costas says:

    Thanks for your info Kugelasack! Lets hope this kid offers a different dimension to our front line. We need a strong body in the box.

  159. AlphaRS says:

    Manucho just didn’t get an opportunity.

  160. Drew Vader says:

    Alpha — I usually agree with a lot of what you say, so don’t take this the wrong way, but man I am of the opinion that we could have given Manucho all the opportunity and playing time in the world and he still wouldn’t have cut it. I mean, I think even that nutter at Hull didn’t rate him enough to try to sign him…

  161. Marq says:

    Think Manucho is at an age where you don’t expect too much improvement to his game. Lets see how our new African player fair

  162. Kugelsack says:

    No problem, Costas. It was my time to shine!;)

    @Drew Vader – agreed. Manucho clearly was a player that wasn’t good enough and he wouldn’t improve much at his age. He didn’t shine at Hull either and selling him is sound judgement when we now have Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Macheda, Welbeck and Diouf coming in January. Best of luck to him and I bet he’ll do well there. Many United players seem to have good careers elsewhere nowadays when they leave us – Forlan, Eagles, Pique, Bellion at Bordeaux.

  163. Costas says:

    Manucho did spend 6 months here in Greece last year. I would lie if i said he set the world alight with his displays. He had his moments, but the Greek League is light years behind the English one. What can i say? They don’t always come good do they?

  164. kegz says:

    Every time we get a decent player Madrid come in and we can’t afford to turn them down and our superstars openly declare their love for madrid…while this remain the same we will never be the biggest club in the world. What doesn’t help us is the weather, the 50% tax for high earners due in next April we will also loose out. On top of this Real have won the european cup 9 times. I don’t agree with the first five because there was nobody in it back then, but i don’t think many people share that opinion

  165. King Eric says:

    Cattermole the new Keano? Are you actually serious?

    Costas – I don’t think it is desperation at all mate. I know you have been anxious all summer but I personally believe Sir Alex has got the squad balance absolutley spot on. I really can see us tearing teams apart again. I also reckon Gibbo is gonna become a bloody good central midfielder. Cannot wait for the season. Just got my Valencia tickets today.

  166. King Eric says:

    Also in regard to deluded cunts. Stevie Me reckons he will win the World cup with England and the Premier and Champions league! Here we go again. Alonso will be gone by Monday which will leave a HUGE hole in their midfield.

  167. Costas says:

    @King ERic: Not desperation in terms of buying players. But desperation in terms of getting those particular players. Valencia and Owen, i can see the reason behind their signing. I am still confused by the Obertan signing. SAF must have really seen something special in the guy to buy him despite his injury.

    Do you mean that you got your Valencia tickets in your hands or that you ordered them? I had to phone them and tell them to send the tickets to the place i will stay in England. The reason for that is that they told me that the tickets would be sent to my house in Greece 7 days before the game. I will already be in England by then! Just asking out of curiosity. I am not afraid that i might not get the tickets in some fashion. Can’t wait!

  168. Anon says:

    damn. you guys are so lucky!!
    Wish i were in England!
    But i’l be on the other end of the Atlantic, (or is it the Pacific?) in the US. The think i am most anxious about is that game time should not clash with my college timings! :(

  169. King Eric says:

    Costas – No just ordered them mate, they said they would be here in the next 7 days. Got them for East Stand Upper. £15. Where are you gonna be sitting , may meet up for a drink beforehand.

  170. Anon says:

    will manucho be playing in the La Liga next season?? my la liga info beyond their top 2 is horribly bad.

  171. Costas says:

    Thanks for the info King Eric. Well, since this will be a once in a longtime thing, i got them at the North Stand. Can’t remember the exact section. I will have to double check. We will see about the drink. Would love to, schedule permitting.

    Anon, i understand where you are coming from. There are certain things in different continents that i miss out on. Wrestling for instance.

  172. manutdchampions2008 says:

    Costas for me any united fan still using that tag united are the biggest club in the world need to stop deluding ourselves. another thing that is really starting to bug me is united fans saying they are only going for the money. a lot of united fans need to stop living in the dark ages gone of the days of puting club before money.

    another thing that is annoying me is why are united shopping at happy shoppers, we lose the worlds best player and still united are moaning at the price the players are going for. if united are the club they say they are why are we reducing ourselves to owen obertin and valencia doesnt seem to great to me.

  173. 20legend says:

    Anybody know if this new boy Mame Biram Diouf is any good? Or is he just another Manucho? Also apparently Hargo is coming back in September? That would be bloody good news.

  174. King Eric says:

    manutdchampions2008 – Not being funny mate, but your negativity holds no bounds. Who would you suggest we go for then? 60 million for Ribery and 60 for Aguero? Simply not worth it. Give me some ideas. It is all about balance and to me we have got it absolutely spot on.

  175. King Eric says:

    Also if I could just add in terms of fan base United are THE biggest in the world bar none.

  176. King Eric says:

    Finally mate last time I looked we were also the richest club so where are you getting your facts from?

  178. King Eric says:

    Anon – Certainly sounds impressive. Personally I love the signings we have made. Fuck all big names to spend over priced wages on, youth and a potential goal machine in Owen. Now this lad.

  179. manutdchampions2008 says:

    King Eric united are the most indebted club in the world for starters. even though I hate them 2 death real madrid are the biggest club in the world, ronaldo thinks that kaka and benzama also do and many more along with that.

    united win the european cup another league title this year, and despite all the insanity that spreads at real madrid and the mediocrity they have performed at. they are still looked at has a bigger pull, aguero could easily go for 25 to 30 million if united did a swap deal involving berbatov.

    united are poor in goals in midfield, the attack is average if you take rooney out of this team. I fear if rooney gets injured a front 2 of owen and berbatov does not hold any kind of fear factor in my view.
    anderson carrick fletcher valencia nani park tosic giggs obertin where are the goals going to come from, I do not see any match winners out of this lot.

  180. Nectarine says:

    @manutdchampions2008

    It’s simply foolish to call Owen and Berbatov average players. Fair enough, Owen has something to prove at United but his record speaks for itself, but how can you not appreciate Berbatov’s class? An average player does not have his vision, touch, technique and allround ability. He didn’t have a great first season, simply a ok to good season, but he improved as the season progressed and this year he has a full pre season under his belt and he and Rooney will step out of Ronaldo’s shadow, I feel. They have to, just like Ronaldo, Rooney and the others stepped it up when van Nistelrooy left and Keane quit.

  181. Anon says:

    King Eric, yeah couldn’t agree more.
    I think the obsession with the term “marquee” is getting a tad embarrassing. we have honestly never in our history chased established stars to play for us. (Real HAVE). We are not Real. We are in fact the anti-Real of the world. They are the royals, and Fergie and Busby before him have established us as a club for the working class. Fergie himself has repeated this often.
    I don’t think we will EVER sign a big name player. If we do, you safely say that football would have changed well and truly then.

  182. Nectarine says:

    Anon, we’ll never sign a big name player? What are you talking about? Berbatov, Ferdinand, Rooney, Hargreaves, van Nistelrooy, Veron?

  183. Kings says:

    King Eric – I’m hearing that Hughes might make a bold move for Vida after City were knocked back in their attempts to sign Lescott. Go fuck yourself Hughes!

  184. Drew Vader says:

    Anon — Its the Atlantic haha

    Costas — You aren’t missing anything at all with Wrestling dude. You seem to have an IQ higher than that of a box of rocks so I think you would find wrestling not worth watching. Unless you’re 12 years old, then its kinda awesome. After that though, not so much.

    and King Eric — Spot on about most everything

  185. King Eric says:

    Kings – Seriously? fucking jokers. Hughes is starting to really piss me off.

  186. craigni says:

    vidic to city wot a load of bollocks, hughes is only a puppet he has no say in fuck all who would want adeyabor in there team that says it all………

  187. Costas says:

    @Drew Vader: I might disappoint you my friend, but i actually follow wrestling religiously! What i meant was, that i can’t be there to watch it live. It’s just one of those guilty pleasures as they say…

    They want Vidic? Really? What’s wrong with Richard Dunne?

  188. Nectarine says:

    Hughes is completely shameless. He’s sold his soul. Twat.

  189. Gudjohnsen says:

    I find it strange they’re going for Vidic, Richard Dunne is the best defender in the world and Tevez is the best striker in the world – even much better than Ronaldo according to Kia Joorabchian.

  190. manutdchampions2008 says:

    King Eric I would not worrie about what hughes does. sparky is playinmg mind games with fergie he knows dee down he cant get vidic

  191. Drew Vader says:

    Costas — hahahahaha well my foot is now completely in my mouth…. My apologies dude, I meant no offense!! But yes, you are disappointing me with that little revelation… Now, when I read your posts I will have to stop and think, “He makes a good point, BUT he’s a wrestling fan so I’m not so sure….” ha ha. Sorry again!

  192. Costas says:

    No dont’t apologise my friend. Sometimes i am wondering why i still watch it myself! Cutting bad habits is not my strong point. In fairness, when i started watching it was more adult oriented. It has got silly in the last 6-7 years.

  193. kapti14 says:

    dunno if mame diouf is one for the future but is it for future sales like manucho or a genuine gem.

    will sir alex give him enough playing time to improve and become like one of those arsene like hits.

    manucho we all know was not given enough time. i gotta a feeling same will happen to diouf and he will be sold to the highest bidder.

    shame bcos he seems to have etoo like finishing plus good heading ability.

    also dont think tosic will make it. possebon as well seems lacking.

    dont get me wrong but i think anderson wont make it either.

    nani however has so much in him. composure, shooting, pace, dribbling but needs to start listening to sir alex.

    so for me those who will make it:

    ljajic,obertan, wellbeck,macheda,rafael,fabio,petrucci,nani,evans

    flops:
    anderson,possebon,diouf(depends on sir alex),tosic

  197. AlphaRS says:

    @Drew Vader

    Well if he doesn’t cut it at United then it’s best to ship him out and trim down the size of the squad which was about 44 last season.
    At 26 years old perhaps he didn’t have the time to improve.
    His gone now anyway so it doesn’t really matter.

    It just makes me think of players like Ben Foster who was touted as the next big goal keeping talent of English Football and hasn’t really live up to that.

  233. Nectarine says:

    @redbowl

    You have to expand on a statement like that.

  234. aig alex is god says:

    very dull 2nd half.i can understand SAF wanting to experiment but still.no penetration at all.

  235. redbowl says:

    @Nectarine,

  237. Nectarine says:

    Oh, that’s a shame. Sorry for your loss;-) I thought you meant that watching us playing badly in a training match broke your heart, which would be weird.

  256. Doherty says:

    @willierednut:
    I think the indonesia team are going to try and fly in to play united in malaysia.
    But they have taken the fixture of manutd.com so not sure.

  257. Gudjohnsen says:

    The first half was good, in the second half the tempo was more slow and sloppy, understandably. The heat and moisture over there is intense and the players just arrived yesterday from a looong flight. Both goals from Malaysa came from individual mistakes, Foster made a huge mess. But all in all there were many positives in this match. Nani and Tosic looked lively, Rooney was of course awesome, Berbatov was good in the first half and could have scored. Owen showed his skill in the box and got on the scoresheet, he doesn’t miss two chances in a row, that’s for sure. This is what he’s good at, finishing chances, I’m very happy for him. Johnny Evans was rock solid and it was nice to see W.Brown back in the team.

    When is the next match? Can’t wait…

  258. oneunited says:

    posted the download link for goals above, but my comment is under moderation due to website link i guess

  259. aig alex is god says:

    i guess its our tendency to start slowly.we have done it in the last 2 seasons.

    the cor reason we win titles is bcoz we win nearly all our home games.

  260. redbowl says:

    @Doherty,

    i don’t think so mate, David Gill’s invitation has been rejected by Indonesia FA.
    so i guess they’ll stay in Malaysia for the next 4 days

  261. aig alex is god says:

    i meant core reason

  262. willierednut says:

    Cheers doherty.

  263. Doherty says:

    Oh well then. Have to wait till next friday for more action.

  264. willierednut says:

    Im yet to be convinced about nani stepping in2 ronnys shoes, still hopefull though.

  265. BolaToday says:

    Michael Owen score United winning goal in Kuala Lumpur. wohoo!

  266. red rossa says:

    dead serious fergie should sign him before rafa gets his grubby hands on him, he wont cost much either, he’s not as mental as keano but he’s closer then anyone else!!

  267. ChaosRed says:

    We will play malaysian XI again on monday

  268. Snoopy says:
