Ron: Rooney Has Always Been Brilliant

Wayne Rooney has been on the receiving end of lots of praise this season, with him finally stepping in to the limelight which has been vacated by Cristiano Ronaldo, and before him, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ronaldo argues that whilst Rooney is definitely having a great season, our young forward has always been great.

“It doesn’t impress me because I know the quality Rooney has,” said Ronaldo. “He was always brilliant when I played with him. I played with him for three or four years and he was always brilliant, not just this season. This season he has played very well and scored many goals but he is still the same player. He is fantastic and a winner.”

“I hope to play with him again some day,” he continued. “I don’t know if this is possible but I am really happy for him and for all the players at Manchester.”

    RE: Emily.

haha he didn’t even say anything about madrid. he said one day he hopes to play with him again. bearing in mind they are both young, there is no saying where that is going to be if it ever happens. but feel free to keep being paranoid

    RE: swissdevil

It was some nike launch and there were loads of journalists there from all round the world, and I am guessing a fair few would have been from the UK so of course the questions were going to be about Rooney and United

  6. Swissdevil says:

yeah right, queiroz is saying ronaldo is happier at madrid.. hm… weird to see him fighting about who should take the penalty though…

Hope this article dosent turn into another slagging fest between United fans

Ronaldo and Rooney were always brilliant on the pitch and complemented each other well. They had a brilliant understanding with each other. Ask Rooney and he will say too that he would like to play with Ronaldo. Both have a lot of respect for each other

  15. brett1985 says:

Rooney has never hit these heights but had he took the penalties in previous seasons and not got an injury just about every season I am sure he would have averaged 20-25 prem goals per season. Even look at last season 12 goals in 25 starts. Give him 6 penalties converted (for arguments sake) and another 7 goals for the remaining 13 odd games. There you have it.

  16. willierednut says:

No doubting ron was a beast but rooneys the man now.

  17. Ashish says:

    Ronaldo stating the obvious.

  18. Tony Starks says:

ronaldo doing well for himself where he is – and we are happy with where we are and with our own players – so great!

  19. LunG420 says:

If Ronaldo came back next summer saying that his time in madrid was a waste n he really wants to play for us would u not be happy?

  20. wayne says:

fuck he talks more about utd and our players now than when he played for us,must piss the real brass off just paid 80 mill and all he talks about his is old club.also remember a few weeks ago i think it was the gm of real who said roony wasn’t good enough to play in spain and real had no interest in him, ronaldo’s comments make him look like a retard i fucking love it

  21. willierednut says:

He wont be coming back to united imo, he’ll finish his career at sporting lisbon.

  22. The Redmod says:

i’ve been saying for sometime that i think he’s going to come back..not this summer but next.I also think there’s a few people at Old Trafford that know this and that’s why the money hasn’t been spent. It was his dream to play for the fascists..if any of us had that chance and play for Utd..is there any of us that would turn it down.?..there more chance of Ronnie coming back than Rooney going to them..

  23. elvido says:

I would take him back in a heartbeat but for maybe a fifth of what we got for him. Apparently we can score more now thanks to the White Pele!

  24. Xyth says:

Unless Ron sensationally falls out with Real Madrid, I cannot see him comming back. Even then I doubt if we would pay silly money for him.

  25. wayne says:

@xyth i agree for one thing it would make real look like mugs and they would lose alot of cred as “the team that always gets their man” plus utd aren’t going to pay 80 mill for him.there seems to be problems between him and his teammates but he was a prat here aswell so who knows.maybe after the contract expires he comes back on a free

  26. Fred says:

Ron sounds a bit bitter in these quotes.

  27. JD says:

Of course, when it comes to one key area of Ronnies brain, he’s #1 and always will be. Anyone else, even a best mate, getting tabloids saying otherwise will only make him annoyed deep down, but happy on the outside.

  28. 0161-Jon says:

Rooney’s attitude and commitment to the cause make him a far better player than pretty much anyone out there. I’d have Rooney over any player in the world right now!

  29. PAUL Parker says:

Well, to be perfectly 100% honest, in my humble opinion Ronaldo is a better player then Rooney, and I agree that he is indeed the best player in the world right now. But thats not to say I want him back at United. He would need to mature and cut the ego and witness a new young player come along and steal his thunder before he could become an even better player. Look at Raul, Ronaldo could learn much from Raul btu instead he simply wishes to confine him to history and replace him. Ronaldo leaving United for 80 Million was great business and was good for our long term future. Its hard for players like Fletcher and Nani and co to progress under a ‘self-obsessed’ ‘one man team’ ‘super star machine’ like Ronaldo. Valencia personifies the real United way, because he’s come in and done a great job for us with minimum fuss. We should never be a team that relies on one player or allows one player to become bigger then the club.

    __________

So I definetely don’t bemoan Ronaldo’s departure, but on the question of who’s better, its simple: Ronaldo has more to his game. Rooney is amazingly fast but Ronaldo is faster. Rooney strikes the ball like lightening but Ronaldo is a better striker of the ball. Rooney can beat his man but Ronaldo has enough skills and tricks to run through an entire team. Rooney is a great header of the ball but Ronaldo… I think you get the point. I think Ronaldo is a more skillful and talented player. Its just my opinion mind, BUT HAVING SAID ALL THAT ID RATHER HAVE ROONEY AT UNITED THEN RONALDO. Ronaldo is far too egotistical, to the point it damages team spirit. All the skill and talent in the world can’t compensate for a player who fucks up dressing room harmony. So if im being unbiased then YES, id have to agree Ronaldo is a better player then Ronney SKILLWISE, and ABILITYWISE but not by much…. so overall I’d still prefer Rooney in our squad over Ronaldo. Just my opinion.

  30. King Eric says:

0161 Jon – Could not agree more.

  31. 0161-Jon says:

Ronaldo is the most creative I think, but I just don’t get how someone who never tracks back, flails his arms around like a bitch whenever not passed to or tackled could ever be considered for the best player in the world award.

  32. King Eric says:

Paul Parker – Yeah but Wazza’s attitude, desire and determination more than make up for it. Rooney is unparalled in my view. He WILL be the King of OT . He is getting the sort of attention and cult hero worship only afforded to players like Robson, Eric and Keano. Would take him all day long. I actually think Rooney is the more gifted as well. Just compare the two at 16, it says it all. Rooney was smashing goals in against the gooners at the age, it took Ronnie to 20 or 21 to reach that standard. Rooney is THE COMPLETE FOOTBALLER.

  33. PAUL Parker says:

    King Eric Said,February 25th, 2010 @17:03
Paul Parker – Yeah but Wazza’s attitude, desire and determination more than make up for it.

    __________________

No need for the but mate, we’re in agreement. Rooneys attitude makes up for Ronaldo’s undeniable talent and skill, as both players have undeniable talent and skill. Wayne for me has the edge for me because of his footballing brain. I’d rather have Rooney then Ronaldo at Old Trafford right now.

  34. NotoriousRedDevil says:

@ Paul Parker agree with your analysis on Ronaldo but saying he can learn from Raul isnt the best idea. Raul had a clause in his contract saying he had to be paid more than any one at the club during the late 90s and early 00s. He’s been the cause for several managers going and has a clique going at Madrid similar to that of JT. Class player shit character, that my 2 cents on Raul.

I don’t see why people have a problem with Ronaldos ego. It seems that anyone with an ego especially if they’re good at what they do is branded a cunt by people from the British society. My philosophy is “It ain’t bragging if you can back it up.” Peoples confidence can be mistake for arrogance especially with the media in England. Tevez did more for disharmony than Ronaldo. He’s a better player than Rooney but Rooney fits United better. As for the issue of World Player of the Year

    1991 – Lother Matthaus
    1992 – Marco Van Basten
    1993 – Robert Baggio
    1995 – George Weah
    1996/97/2002 – Ronaldo (R9/Fat One/Brazilian One)
    1998/2000/2003 – Zidane
    1999 – Rivaldo
    2001 – Figo
    2004/05 – Ronaldinho
    2006 – Cannavaro
    2007- Kaka
    2008 – Cristiano Ronaldo
    2009 – Lionel Messi

Out of all those midfield/forward players only one possibly two tracks back. Forward players tracking back is a concept appreciated in English football not World football. Its all well and good to attack and defend as unit but that isn’t THE only way to play. Our Captain Gary Neville once blasted the strikers after losing 3-1 to l’arse in 2001/02 that the strikers had enough chances to get something out the game despite his cock up leading to the l’arse equaliser. For some their footballing principle is everyone does their respective job, i.e defenders defend, forward players create chances and score. That certainly seems the criteria for this award.

  35. PAUL Parker says:

Didn’t know that about Raul. Still, Ronaldo does need to check his ego, considering he’s won fuck all compared to his contemporaries. If Madrid were top of La Liga I’d understand, but right now they’re out the Copa, 0-1 down to Lyon in Europe and 2nd to Barcelona. A better example would’ve been Messi, you can’t imagine him sulking because somebody else took a penalty, especially when that somebody is a new signing yet to score their first goal. Alonso deserved to take the kick and Ronaldo acting like that just causes even more tension in a “star-studded” locker room. Thats why I agree Rooney def suits United more, no player should be bigger then the Club and Rooney is prepared to sacrifice his wants for the club. Look at last year where he practically played as a winger. Ronaldo would expect the sacking of his Manager if Real Madrid played him out of position. 80 million and 3 amazing seasons was a fair bargain for us. He’s done us proud, but Rooney right now is far more valuable to our team.

  36. bchilds says:

Of course he has, we all know what a top player Wazza has always been for us.

  37. Kings says:

I know he was irritating towards the final stages of last season with his behaviour, but at least he shows us respect after he has gone. He is someone who is loyal towards clubs who have been good to him, I mean who can forget his gesture towards the Sporting Lisbon fans when he scored the winner there in the opening group game in 2007/08?

Rooney has always been the main man for me, and when he plays I feel we can beat anyone. He is that good, and that important to United.

  38. King Eric says:

Kings – Good point about Ronaldo actually mate. I reckon if he bagged against us he would keep his head down.

  39. Satz13 says:

Maybe I am being cynical, I always feel that except for say couple of occasions notably as admitted by Sir Alex himself (about Ronaldo texting him et all), I feel its more of Ronaldo’s response to what the media throws upto him.No doubt he is missed by us and to a certain extent especially in footballing terms he also misses us, but the reality being that ultimately its the best answer to what the interviewer might throw to him regarding Manchester United…

  40. Irish Red says:

    @ Wayne

You say Ronaldo was a prat when he was here too but apparently he was one of the most liked players in the dressing room. Dont get that impression at real. He doesnt celebrate with the team unless he scores or has a part to play in the goal.

  41. REDmarcwilliems says:

I still believe Ronaldo will still play for united..

  42. Ulster Red says:

    REDmarcwilliems
still?? he left in the summer mate

  43. reddevil forever says:

listen ronnie for the last time rooney isn’t going to madrid so just leaves
    us alone

  44. mufcdevils says:

at least ronny is not a ass like tevez. but wazza will never leave united
