Ronaldo: Real Madrid Dream Is Dead

On the same day Real Madrid got battered by Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo has confessed he believes his dream is dead, with his only objective being to win the European Cup with us again.

“I’m no longer thinking of Madrid. That dream is dead,” said Ronaldo. “The only thing I dream about now is Manchester United and winning the Champions League again in Rome.”

So, is the dream dead for the long term? Or until he wins the Champions League again? I personally can’t see there being any way he will stay if we win it again this summer. He was apparently fully committed until we won it in Moscow, so a second European Cup would surely finish his United career.

We shall wait and see. If he is so commited he needs to sign on the dotted paper and extend is United contract. Only then I’ll beleive him.

Off the topic, I was just watching MOTD, and you have to hear it to beleive it. Lineker and Hansen at it again, trying to tarnish today’s victory.

Fucking bastartds, what else can you say about them?

  2. costas says:

You found the statement.I think Ronaldo will stay as long as SAF is here.I don’t like it that he constantly connects his status at the club to trophies but i guess that’s why players join us anyway.I say lets just get to the final. One thing is for sure.If we are blessed to win it again, i won’t allow Ronaldo or anyon e else to ruin it for me.

  3. costas says:

    What did they say Xyth?

  4. spencer says:

Xyth, he can only sign on the dotted line if they offer him a contract and knowing how crap david gill has handed the whole tevez affair, he probably won’t bother offering ronaldo a new one because the glazers bum boy ha

  5. Dave Mack says:

So Ronaldo finally says it (the dream is dead) in plain English and you say he’s off in the summer!! I don’t get it!!
Given the usual excuse re English not being his first language etc.I am certain there is one thing everyone will agree on and that is what Ronaldo wants is to be considered not only the best footballer in the world but the best of all time.To do that he has to be part of a club that is going to dominate in Europe over the next decade. If he believes that is going to be United he’s stayting put. (Provided we pony up a contract extension befitting “the best player in the world”.)
So what that all means it’s up to us. That is, the silverware we win, our squad, the quality of young players coming through, the cash we’re prepared to splash on signing the best and of course whether he respects who’s in charge. While Fergie’s there that’s a given. When he goes it depends on who replaces him.
Those of us who want him to hang around because of everything that MUFC means to us …… that aint going to happen, in fact, those days are sadly gone. (Maybe that’s why we love Rooney so much.)

  6. Xyth says:

Well, they were saying that Boro could have had a penalty or two, one of them leading to Vidic’s sending off.

They want ot hand the title to dippers on a plate (as they cannot win it themselves).

On another thread I said that our prematch warming up was tougher than what Boro had to offer.

  7. Whiteside10 says:

I’m really intrigued about this forthcoming summer in terms of transfers – both in and out of the club… Firstly, to comment on Ronnie’s quotes above, I hope he stays, and that he means what he says there… For me, it’s been well documented about his pouting, sulking, perceived lack of interest at times, but the bottom line is that he is a great player… and I do think it’s in his best interests for him to stay here… However, here’s what’s bothering me…
Firstly, the whole Tevez saga. I’ve been trying to read between the lines with what’s going on here, and I can only come to the conclusion that United can’t afford him. When I say ‘can’t afford’, I mean that I’m wondering whether Ferguson has other big transfer targets (Kaka, Benzema?), which would render the remaining £22m for Tevez unviable… Unless Ronnie is sold, of course… I do think that if Fergie hasn’t got any big spending plans, then it doesn’t seem to make sense to just let Tevez go, and I don’t think Fergie would be that daft…
So, in other words, if Tevez is allowed to go, who will Fergie bring in to replace him? I certainly don’t think he’s going to rely on the young players to come to the fore on this, (Macheda, Campbell, Welbeck, Manucho) as they aren’t yet consistently good enough…
I realise I’ve gone a bit off-topic on this one, but I guess my point with this is that I suspect Ronnie’s future will have a big impact on United’s overall transfer dealings this summer… if he stays, I fear Tevez may leave so Fergie can land his other big transfer targets… but if Ronnie does go, I reckon the money United would get for him could fund Tevez’s permanent deal, plus one or two other big signings… what does anyone else think on this?

  8. Curt says:

I don’t know, I think you may be reading too far into it. I don’t think you can tranlate, “I’m no longer thinking of Madrid. That dream is dead,” any other way. I’m not saying you should believe him, but I don’t think you can manipulate that statement to say that he is gone if we win in Rome.

  9. Whiteside10 says:

Does anyone still watch MOTD nowadays? I’m surprised they have any viewing figures at all, given the lack of knowledge the so-called panel of experts have on that… I’m surprised they haven’t pulled a few geezers of Sky’s ‘Fanzone’ to offer their thoughts on the day’s matches… at least you may get a bit more emotion with their admittedly biased views…

  10. costas says:

I think that if Ronaldo goes, SAF will see this as his big break to get Benzema. So Tevez might not stay anyway. And if there is enough cash left,he might try to get Ribery. If you think about it,United won’t need much strengthening. We have a strong squad and the Serbians,Hargreaves and Fabio will be added to that. Not to mention the possibility of signing Valencia from Wigan.

Thanx Xyth.Maybe it should have been a handball for Vidic. But as lonf as these cunts don’t acknowledge Liverpool’s preferential treatment, i won’t acknowledge ours.Ronaldo migth get a penalty for diving at the half way line.I don’t care. For me it will be a penalty.I have said it before. They better get a lot of vaseline because their asses will sting a lot once we wrap this up.

  11. Red Ranter says:

Alternatively, now that we’re reading between lines, the Madrid dream is dead, but a Barca dream is born. :)

  12. denton davey says:

Fortunately, I don’t live in the UK any longer so I don’t have to watch MOTD. Setanta does get shown on digital satellite cable here so I get to watch James Richardson and his clowns, almost all of whom are ex-L’poo. To hear them, you’d believe that there was no reason for a penalty in the FACup and that there was no reason for a penalty against Spurs. They talk about both as if it was clear-cut favouritism which makes me want to cry all the way to the trophy celebrations !

About Ronaldo: I have long thought that he’s not leaving. Just watch – he’ll get a new contract in the summer with a huge bonus for “image rights”.

About Tevez: “so long it’s been good to know you”. He won’t accept playing second fiddle. Nor should he but the reality is that he’s not better than Rooney or Ronaldo and, for some reason I don’t fully understand, SAF wants to integrate Berbatov into the first-team. I also don’t think that Carlitos has improved – he’s still the same player that was so thrilling as a teenager at Boca Juniors. That’s what he is. It’s pretty good but even Diego Maradona doesn’t think that he’s worthy of a place ahead of Lionel Messi or Sergio Aguero so he’s on thin ice for the Argentine World Cup team and, if he answered honestly, he would tell you that that’s his highest priority. I don’t think that he will be “replaced” – Macheda, Welbeck, Campbell and Manucho provide adequate depth – unless SAF pulls a cat-out-of-the-hat and signs Michael Owen to be “the new Solksjaer”. Little Mikey is a fox-in-the-box and he scores whenever he’s healthy – just imagine what he could do with the service provided by Rooney, Ronaldo, and Berbatov. Plus, he would be “free” = signed on a pay-as-you-play contract with no transfer fee (which is pretty much how SAF got his hands on Edwin, many years after botching the deal to replace TheGreatDane).

The big transfer target is likely to be conditional on prize money – winning the CL and EPL is worth something like 100,000,000 – which is a lot of dosh even in these devalued times. With a free hand, I think that SAF’s “dream target” would be Michael Essien but he’s essentially un-gettable since the RentBoyz’ owner has unlimited funds. Who else ? Daniele di Rossi is the next best option because Roma are skint and look likely to miss out on the Champions’ League for 2009/10. I would imagine that if he’s willing to leave Rome – he a native son – then he’d probably cost something like thirty million quid or forty million Euros. That would keep the OldFootieKnight smiling.

  13. RN says:

He wouldnt go there for the proverbial million dollar. The dream of real madrid is a farce. Its the life in city of madrid that attracts him, coupled with lots and lots of dosh, coupled with glory of being one man team. Barca doesnt provide him any of these.

  14. THIS_IS_MANCHESTER says:

I guess he saw tonights game too… lol

  15. Marq says:

    @spencer
Like it or not, the Glaziers and especially David Gill has done wonders for us for these past few years. The Tevez affair is more to do with MSI rather than the United board

  16. costas says:

By the way, i have just seen that Van Persie will be fit for Wednesday.Lets hope Rio will be as well.

  17. themarkedman72 says:

fuck me thats some negative spin.
Scott how u can spin that into a negative is amazing.
Thats a piece of work that would make any abu proud.
    Thanks.

btw he has been saying he wants to stay for about 6 months now.
I would understnad if you said ne needed to sign a contract exstnetion to prove it…that would be a fair call. but why get into the grave that is his united career and help dig??
    Makes no sense??
You hold grudges. Elephants could learn from Scott the red

  18. Scott the Red says:

TheMarkedMan – I’m not spinning anything. I believed Ronaldo last year after the CL final when he said he was staying. Then a few weeks later he said he wanted to leave. Why anyone would believe ANYTHING he has to say this time around is beyond me!

When he decided on staying, he said the reason why he wanted to leave was because he had won everything here. He said had he not won the European Cup, he wouldn’t have thought about leaving. It’s pretty logical to assume if he wins TWO European Cups with us, the same thoughts will arise.

If he said “The only thing I dream about now is staying at Manchester United for several years” or “The only thing I dream about now is winning many more trophies with Manchester United” then that would be fair enough. But his dream ends with what he could win this season.

Oh and I don’t have to help dig to end his United career. Only God knows when that is going to be, eh Ronnie?

  19. Red Rupert says:

Enjoy your pieces Scottie but I think you, along with others are a bit obsessed with Ron wanting away. You can tell by his commitment and body language alone that he’s over Madrid. Compare him now to earlier in the season. If we want to be cynical about it, the only way I can see him wanting to go is if Madrid get their act together and become worthy of his talent. He may go one day but we’ll’ve had many years value out of 12m by then.

  20. bertie says:

I think he’ll be at RM sooner or later, and fair enough. He’s done a lot for us and Fergie has helped him a good bit in return. If we win CL I think there is more chance of us keeping him another year. If we don’t win either League or CL then I think he might do one this summer.

He might do one this summer anyway if the deal has already been struck, as has been mentioned a bit recently

  21. Scott the Red says:

Red Rupert – do you go to the games? Did you see his body language against Arsenal? They won’t show you him stropping around on the telly I guess, because the ball is down the other end of the park. Against Arsenal, for 10 minutes, it was as bad as I’ve ever seen him, with all the old fellas who sit near me calling him disgusting and saying no one has EVER behaved like that in our shirt.

I’m getting sick of these self righteous reds who will defend Ronaldo until the end of time. You think he gives a fuck about you? Course he doesn’t. I haven’t yet come across a season ticket holder who thinks the sun shines out of Ronnie’s arse, because we all get to see what he’s like when he’s not on the ball.

  22. keanesmagichat says:

he will be with us next year, i have that i good authority..
a new contract is in the pipeline… and he is willing to sign… in fact from what i hear, his agent was the one who asked about a new contract…

lads just in case you do not know, there are over 10 players in the prem who earn more that ronnie and he is world player of the year…
and he is the only world player of the year in our league….

he is from an island off portugal and for a lad growing up in that part of the world madrid are the biggest team in the world… its a fact…
he will be with us next season, as i said i have that on good authority… do not fret…

scott you have your issues with united players and you like to play that angle, which is fair enough… but the lad said the dream is dead, do we have to read between the lines after already reading between the lines

  23. Drew Vader says:

    Drew Vader’s transfer musings….

Daniele De Rossi is an excellent defensive CM, (despite his dirty cunt elbow to Brian McBrides face in the world cup) but from everything I’ve heard about him he wants to stay at Roma for life like Totti and be their captain, so I don’t see him leaving.

Benzema keeps being mentioned, but I’m not impressed. The Prem is a different kettle of fish to the Frenchies.

Someone mentioned Kun Aguerro, who would be great, but he’d cost a fortune and I don’t know if he wants to leave Spain.

And the problem with getting one of these “world class” strikers, they are going to cost around 30 mil easy, so then the problem comes of which one of our 30 mil pound strike force sits the bench? And then, will that one start bitching about it (yes, I’m looking at you Carlitos). So I would like a young, up and coming striker that wouldn’t mind biding his time and learning and getting his minuets when he can. What about the former red Sylvain Blake or whatever from Wolves? He has lead the Championship in scoring two years in a row so he obviously knows how to finish, and he’s got pace and is decent in the air from what I’ve read. And still young.

People will mention that we have Kiko, Danny, Frazier and Manucho already on the books, but to be honest, I would be shitting myself next year if Carlos is gone, and then Wayne gets his annual 2 month injury. Seriously, you would feel confident of a strike force of Campell and Berba going into the Bridge in a crucial league game? I wouldn’t.

(Then again, we could always throw Ronaldo up front as striker with Berba and then just have a different winger… AHHHH possibilities…)

That brings up wingers. I am very underwhelmed by the majority of wingers in the Prem, especially left sidded ones. No one really stands out. (if only we could clone Giggsy) I’ve read that Tosic is improving so thats encouraging. But Ashley Young is nothing but pace, and I don’t think he’s even left footed. And he dives. Valencia… I don’t watch Wigan unless their playing one of the big four, but he doesn’t seem like anything to write home about. And who knows how he would do in Europe against a team that only defends 30 yards of the pitch so he won’t have space to sprint in. Anyone know how old Petrov from City is?? Denton Davey has called on him and I agree, I think he would be the best option on the left, but would citeh sell him to us? I doubt it.

And as for defensive CMs, or just CMs in general, I’m curious to see what this Belgian lad is like that we’ve been linked with a couple of times, Witsel or something. And to be honest, I know I’ve only seen him in two games against us, but I thought Fernando from Porto was brilliant at tackling and breaking up play. Don’t know how he is at passing or shooting or anything offensively, but he sure can tackle.

    Thoughts? anyone?

  24. Drew Vader says:

I know that wasn’t exactly on topic of this post Scott, but I hope you let it slide cuz I saw a few others going through potential signings…

  25. costas says:

Against Arsenal he had his usual tantrums when he didn’t get the decision but the thing that angered me the most, was when he almost had a go at Wayne for a crossfield ball that was too far ahead of him. That is not on.Especially on a night when Wayne was majestic. The run in looks to be as exciting as it was last year.Lets enjoy it and not worry what happens down the road.Last year must have taught us that.

  26. Scott the Red says:

KeanesMagicHat – he said his dream is to win the European Cup with United THIS SEASON. And when that dream is dead? Then what? Real Madrid again.

And why does it matter what he says? He SAID he was going to stay with us after the European Cup final last season and look what happened there.

He may very well be here next season, I’m by no means ruling that out. But I’m not going to put my house on it just because he says so.

And Drew, I’ll let you off this once :D

  27. keanesmagichat says:

    drew vader

i reckon the lad fernando from porto looks a serioud up and coming player..

also, de rossi would be available at aprice no doubt, roma are not gonna make the cl next year and he is a great player…

what would you think about etoo’o?/ 12 million they reckon would take him….

  28. keanesmagichat says:

he did stay with us after the european final last year scott…

the lads a prick no doubt, but i think a lot of his moves last year were orchastrated for financial reasons… he is here and he will be here for seasons to come, for the rest of his career? no way…. 3 years max… we will make a healthy profit on him mind

  29. Drew Vader says:

KMH — I’d pass on E’to. He is getting on in years, what 28, and pace is usually the first thing to go. So would he be as effective (in a new league, climate, culture etc etc) if he lost half a step? And he has a history of being a priss I think, like most strikers though I guess, and throwing a fit when he doesn’t get his way. And I think he’s said a few times in the recent days that he doesn’t want to leave, and honestly, why would he? I say, if Barca accept the cash to fund that Ribery deal that supposedly is already in place, let him go to Citeh or Chelski and join the rest of the mercenaries looking for one last huge pay check. I’m not bothered about coming up against him in the league, Rio and Wes had him in their collective back pockets in the semi’s last year.

  30. Drew Vader says:

I’ve already put out Ebanks-Blake as one option, and I’m ready to get slaughtered for this one, but I seriously think we could do worse than raiding Citeh for some of their youth products. They are more than likely going to be splashing the cash at anything with a fancy name (see above post, Eto) so the youth might be disenfranchised with their prospects and we could offer them a life line.

Ishamel Miller is hurt now I think, but with West Brom going down he could scooped on the cheap. He’s really quick (my most valued quality in a striker) and works hard.

Then there is a welsh dude they have named Chet something, his last name escapes me now, but I swear I’ve seen him a few times this year and he was really impressive. He is a big battering ram like striker (which would be a useful option to have to bring off the bench in close games where teams are parking the bus), still a teenager, and he has a decent touch as well.

And then there is Danny Sturridge. I think chelski are sniffing around, but he is a real prospect. He’s got bags of skill, loves to take people on, and has a good left foot. Might be a little of a big time charlie but I’m Gary Neville could make fun of him enough to fix that…

  31. RedHarry4Life says:

Fucking great result to-day. always looked in control and I actually thought Berba had a good game. Macheda is only just 18 and I now think he is a real good prospect. I don’t believe Campbell has what it takes to be successful here. Why go to shiitty’s youth squad, we have some stunning prospects coming through. Petrucci is in IMO better than Macheda, Norwood looks good, then there is Morrison, Matti James, Ekren is starting to look good, scored a 30yrds screammerrrrrrrr the other night!

Laughed my nuts off watching el Classico, what a fucking spanking, total utter humilation. Real were made to look like shite again, after the Scouse bastards now Barca!!. No wonder the dream is dead so are Real. Pieces of shite. To compete with Barca they will have to speand 100s of millions, which they don’t have. Would you want to go to Real after watching tonight?

Just before I go absolutely loved Evans tackle right near the end. a Thing of Beauty

  32. King Eric says:

denton I agree with alot you say but Michael Owen. He is NEVER fit and even when he is he cannot hit a barn door these days. One of the most over rated players of a generation in my opinion. Plus the dippers connection. No way good enough for our great club.

  33. United4eva says:

Ronaldo’s staying is he? Heard that one before. Boy+Cried+Wolf. Take nothing away from Ronaldo as a player on his day there’s nobody better. But committed to us? Just look at his reaction next time someone doesn’t pass the ball to him when he wants it or when he loses the ball trying and compare that to Rooney’s attitude in the same situation. I think you’ll note the contrast.

  34. jespermoses says:

I ‘m finished with watching MOTD and listening to ALL the radio stations now.The anti-United bullshit is now beyond belief!!

Everytime we win they try and find some kind of fault or referee mistake that has gone in our favour.

Nice comments by Ronnie but i’ll take them with a pinch of salt for just now.

  35. Arpit says:

I am sorry to say scott but i dont agree with you & majority of our fans. i guess the problem lies with you , it seems you tend to read too much between the lines.
if he says i am committed to United but god knows whats in store for the future then you have a prob. with that.
now he said Mad-Rid dream is over & i only dream of winning the UCL again then you have an issue with that & come out and say if we win the european cup again then surely his United career is over. ridiculous to say the least.

  36. wazza says:

Drew Vader: we dont need Ebanks Blake, Ched Evans or Danny Sturridge. we already have Kiko, Welbeck, Campbell & manucho.but if Tevez leaves, then Fergie will definitely sign a top class striker this summer which i reckon might be Benzema but would like it to be Aguero.its too early to be making Kiko or Welbeck as 3rd choice strikers next season.Manucho likely to be sold & Campbell may be in as a squad player.

  37. SINGH7 says:

real shitrid 2 BARCELONA 6 EVEN PIQUE GOT IN ON THE ACT AND SCORED A GOAL , FUKIN QUALITY RESULT LETS HOPE THEY CAN DO THE SAME TO THE CHELSKI SCUM

  38. corea says:

    he is smart.

  39. Drew Vader says:

Wazza — First off, you’re right, maybe it was stupid of me to suggest Citeh players, when really, who knows if they’d be any better than what we already have. Point taken there.

But everything else you say is just confirming my point. I agree with you 100% that Kiko and Welbeck are too young to be 3rd choice strikers next year, and that Campbell is a squad player AT BEST, and Manucho is a Championship player AT BEST and should be moved along.

But, I don’t think spending huge on a big name striker would be wise for this summer. Aguerro is great, but he’d cost close to 30 mil easy, and Lyon would try and milk us for everything we have for Benzema as well. Then, would either one of them be happy to go from being the biggest fish in their pond and guaranteed starters, to sitting behind Berba and Wayne?? Of course they wouldn’t. It would be just another Tevez situation.

So what I think we should look for is a second tier striker if you will, who won’t cost a fortune and will come in accepting right from the off that they aren’t going to start every game, and will just be happy to be here and to help when needed. Now, who is that player? I don’t know. Thats why I was throwing out just a few names…

And I would love to hear other people’s thoughts on a player who could potentially fit that role…

  40. corea says:

    my thoughts.
Wellbeck, Macheda and Campbell will do for us. that’s my opinion.
but the last word on the matter is Fergie’s and i don’t think he will take risk.
but, let us remember the 2006-2007 season. We sold Rossi and Smith. We’ve had unreliable Louis, Wayne and not young Ole. Everyone was doubting his decision making but it payed off.

  41. Drew Vader says:

I agree Corea, it won’t be the end of the world if Carlos leaves and we still don’t get a new striker. We could always go after a winger and just give Ronaldo more minutes as a striker.

  42. man u kings says:

HA HA SO FINALLY RON FOUND OUT HOW GOOD MADRID ARE. RONNY WILL STAY AND MAN U WILL SIGN TEV

  43. corea says:

Don’t make fools of yourselves )
    Ron iiiiiiis smart )
hope is our only hope. it doesn’t matter how much i love Kaka, i don’t need him. I want Ronaldo in our shirt. End of the issue.

  44. DanS says:

I’m fed up speculating about Ronaldo. Lets just see what happens. First things first though, win us the Champions League Ronnie.

  45. FusilliJerry says:

If both Berbatov and Tevez were loan-players, you might see the Argentinian getting signed up permanently instead of the Bulgarian, but let’s get real: DB is going nowhere this summer, so we just have to hope it’s Sheringham history repeating itself and that his poor first season is succeeded by a vastly improved second.

Hasn’t Benzema repeatedly said that he wants to play in Spain or Italy, not England ? Tevez would be much more attainable, and about half the price Lyon would be looking for. Personally I don’t understand why we’ve never been in for David Villa

  46. trevor says:

I am not confident to be honest what is happening either way with ronaldo!

When becks signed for Real he signed before the season end and he fergusion and everyone within the club denied it for a long time!

At the start of the season he wanted to sign for madrid i wouldnt be supprised if to keep him happy they agreed for the end of this season!

Before last nights result with barca 6-2 or what ever it was! Ignoring that, you look at madrid and they are not a european force any more, there team to me looks old and slow. The only one i can identify that can cause problems is Robben. The centre mid is quite defencive in Gago and Diara or whatever! Upfront they van nist has been injured and after that injury what kind of player at his age is going to return? erm he wasnt the quickest anyway! Raul who is ok, past his best for me irrespective of his age and huntleger who hasnt performed! -

I have a couple of questions to ask ronaldo.

1 – How many real madrid players would get into the Man United Starting Line up? (I personaly think Ramos – Right Back – Calias -GK ) Id be interested in what he thought!

2 -Uniteds team is young and are currently defending champions of the Premier League and Champions Leauge. With or without you i would still expect them to be challanging for these Trophies every year! Do you think Madrid are in a simular position? Its been a great number of years that they have been champions league contenders!

3 – If madrid did sign you at the fee that it would take what money would be left over to improve the rest of the squad? Because in its current state it needs 4 more top players at least!

  47. wazza says:

Drew Vader: btw, Fergie has rotated his strikers very often this season.Ron’s best position is winger.he can be deployed as striker if we get a quality winger this summer.remember the 99 squad having 4 top class strikers.they are the ones that get us goals & not the wingers (bar CR7).Fergie may even sacrifice Rooney as winger next season if he signs a top class striker to partner Berba, but doubt so.United definitely need a 3rd choice striker who can score atleast 15 goals a season.Fergie is definitely after Benzema but it depends on his price.

  48. Whiteside10 says:

On signing new players in the summer, I don’t know whether we should or shouldn’t… I guess I was trying to pose the question as to why Fergie hasn’t signed up Tevez yet? If it’s because he thinks he’s not good enough, then I’m surprised… if he thinks that he’s not worth the money, again, I’m surprised (that has never stopped him paying over the odds for a player before – eh Berba?) I could only assume that he’s got a transfer budget for this summer which doesn’t include £22m for Tevez… Hence the link to whether Ronnie stays or goes… I know it was drifting off topic, but I thought I’d throw it out there…

  49. Giles Oakley says:

People rightly complain that Ronaldo’s antics last summer took some of the pleasure out of luxuriating in United’s second best season ever. I have to say there’s some of the same feeling now after a great result and a good performance yesterday. The team is going well, the support is good, we’re back on winning track, and yet now we’re back to slagging off Ronaldo. It may well be true that season ticket holders see a side of him we others don’t, but that cuts both ways. There have been times this season when he’s not got the backing of the same United supporters who demand loyalty from him. In fact he’s got abuse off them. Why would that improve his motivation or deepen his sense of loyalty? There are all sorts of things I dislike about his behaviour at times, but he’s a young man from a very poor background, laughed and sneered at as a kid as country hick in Portugal, patronised by the Portuguese elite such as Mourhino, uprooted when little more than a child to live in a very different culture, yet he’s risen above all that to be voted the best player in the world. So it’s really no surprise if at times his values get skewed. I understand why people criticise him, and defend everyone’s right to express their opinions as freely as they like, but it still astonishes me that United supporters would choose now for such attacks, when we’re on the verge of what could be another fantastic season. United fans can be very fickle sometimes, as with the constant sniping at decent United players like Fletcher, O’Shea, Park , all of whom have this week come up with the goods in vital matches. Supporters can be spoiled by success as much as players.

  50. Kings says:

On a slightly different topic, we now need only 7 points from our last 4 games to win the title. Therefore, if we keep our winning momentum going and beat Arseholes at home on the 16th, will we be presented with the trophy at Old Trafford after the game? I do hope so! I would love to rub their faces in it, especially after what happened in 2002.

  51. Minhaj says:

Am glad to see some people have now realise and talking about the BBC MOTD..I have been sick and tired of mentioning about thier anti utd activities..I did actually write to BBC about why they don’t have and never approach a Manchester United representative in the MOTD Team…even after Alan Sherrer left they have approached another former Arsenal player…ACTION SPEAK LOUDER THEN WORD AND THE TIME HAS COME FOR US UTD FANS TAKING ACTION AGAINST BBC..WE ALL NEED TO WRITE TO BBC SO THEN THE BBC WILL ATLEAST THINK ABOUT IT…COMMON

  52. costas says:

Kings even if Liverpool win all of their games,if we beat Shity and Wigan and even draw with Arsenal, then the title will be ours.I don’t want us to go to the final day.Last season we had the trophy presentation at Wigan and no parade for the Ch.League.The Old Trafford audience deserves a trophy celebration. And hey, if Liverpool drop points,Arsenal might also give us a guard of honour!

  53. DK says:

Scott Ronnie is a kid without a father. He does not have a clue and he speaks nonsense. I said it before and I will say it again he needs to feel loved (I know this sounds silly but it is true). And for his attitude, think Georgie Best and Eric Cantona. Wearing the Red Shirt does not mean you have to be a happy emotionless moron. Every player including Wayne have their fits of moodiness. I sincerely suggest we stop talking about his attitude there are other more interesting subjects.

  54. DK says:

MOTD yesterday was shocking. They even said that Aliadiere botched shot was a penalty. They have sincerely lost the plot and it was laughable.

  55. Red-Manc says:

MOTD is disgusting, i refuse to watch it anymore its the most ABU show ive ever seen.

anyway back to the article if he won it a second time in Rome, surely if he had a brain he would realise there is no better club in the world than Manchester United and any move would be a step down.

I dont think he will WANT to stay but i dont think he will leave whilst Fergie is here, so i dont think we will see the media circus we did last summer but if he does kick off another fuss instead of letting us supporters celebrate the season i will personally kill him myself :)

  56. corea says:

I was sure as soon as the ball catched Vida’s arm this fuckers will make a fuss out of it. Disgusting.

  57. Kings says:

    Guys,

You must read Piers Morgans latest write up on the Mail. He is trashing United again. The article is known as ‘My 10 point guide to beating Red Swine Flu’. What a fucking cunt he really is. Cannot believe he can get away with writing things like that.

  58. costas says:

A question to all fans living in England. Does a portion of your electricity bill go to BBC as it happens with us in Greece?f it does, i feel sorry for you and i think that you should bring this matter forward to the United board. Here, the show similar to MOTD has also gotten out of line to the point that senators are questioning the reason why it’s still on the air.

  59. DK says:

Kings the whole country is jealous of Man United. Our way of play our players our style our fans dedication everything. There is only so much Manc domination these losers they take and now they lose it collectively. Personally I find it funny and remind them whenever I can that trashing United is like crying over a girlfriend that choses to go with another man. It’s tough but you have to take it as like a proper man. They are all London pussies.

  60. DK says:

Costas everybody pays a TV license of 146 GBP per annum to answer your question. As if 60% tax was not enough …

  61. DK says:

Scott how about a discussion on “Our First Day As United Fans”. I reckon we will get to hear about some very good old stories (mine goes back all the way to the day we lost to the gooners in the 70s FA Cup final). It will also show to the world how deep the United roots are and all this MOTD nonsense or the media is doing nothing but making us feel stronger and unique in our love of United!

  62. Mila says:

Well, we hate him for his dirty diving and for his childish tantrums and silly theatrics, but then he produces a belter of a goal or an amazing freekick and we all sing Viva Rinaldo.

Watching Real get humiliated by Barca yesterday and by Liverpool in the CL must’ve dulled the shine of his Bernabeu dream after all. Only God knows, but he might have a vision of Nou Camp next… Only God knows…

As long as he is wearing MU red shirt – he’s got my support, but his words are usually worth sh*t.

  63. denton davey says:

Drew Vader: “So what I think we should look for is a second tier striker if you will, who won’t cost a fortune and will come in accepting right from the off that they aren’t going to start every game, and will just be happy to be here and to help when needed. Now, who is that player?”

Rather than a “second tier striker”, I think that a better option would be a quality striker on the down-side of his career who would be thrilled to join a trophy-winning team, get a big wage-packet, and knows that it’s better to be a spare wheel on a winner than a BigTimeCharlie for a team that’s just not good enough. That’s why I suggested Mikey Owen; I would also suggest David Trezeguet – neither would cost a transfer fee; both have long, long records of scoring goals in a poacher’s role. Trez is on the outs with Claudio Ranieri so he’s probably gone from TheOldLady at the end of the season. Owen won’t stay at Newcastle when they’re relegated – and he lives fairly nearby to M/C. The real wildcard for this kind of role would be El Fenomeno – Fat Ronaldo; he’s scoring goals for fun again for Corinthians but…. If he can be kept healthy, Ronaldo is a danger-man to himself and the opposition. How’s Manchester’s supply of transvestite prostitutes these days ?

I’m in agreement about both Campbell and Manucho – neither seems to be good enough at the very highest level of competition but, perhaps, playing with better players would bring out the best in them. In contrast, Macheda looks extremely comfortable playing in the first team – I thought he did a fine job at Boro yesterday in closing them down, from the front. Welbeck seems to have a nose for goal but needs to eat like me – and put on weight ! These four provide depth but injuries would change the situation.

Anyone else ? the Irish kid, Kevin Doyle, at Reading might be someone who would be a useful squad player as a backup/emergency fill-in. From Italy, Fabio Quagliarella always seems to score goals; same with Diego Milito. They’re both mid-career guys who might want to step up to the top level which is something they won’t be able to do playing for Udinese or Genoa. Someone else who would be a bit of a reach is Amauri, the Brazilian striker for Juventus who doesn’t seem to be on the same page with Ranieri (do we have an echo of Trezeguet here ?) And, it’s a reach – and bound to be controversial, but Emile Heskey wouldn’t be a bad addition IF he’s willing to be a squad player and backup/emergency fill-in. Heskey is a battering ram and has a long, checkered history at the top level BUT he’d be free ‘cos I think he’s out of contract at the end of the season.

Adding a depth player, one who is willing to be a backup and emergency fill-in is a tricky proposition – obviously you’re not going to get someone young and ambitious like Benzema or Aguero for that role. Those kind of guys would bridle under the demands in much the same way that Carlitos has done.

Of course, the best option would be for CR7 to sign a new contract which would keep him at OT forever, alongside Wayne Rooney.

  64. Rotegzy says:

Let me guess,if ronaldo stays beyond this summer, scott would probably come up with “he’ll leave by january”.this obsession is getting way beyond love for united.

  65. King Eric says:

Heskey, Doyle, Owen, Trezeguet??? Not good enough for United as I keep saying. My opinion anyway. Lets wait and see what happens in the summer first, we may not need to buy a striker.

  66. Rotegzy says:

    @GILES OAKLEY;spot-on,you my man.

  67. Mic says:

Giles Oakley does have it spot on, I think it’s a joke, Ronaldo says himself he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, look at the goal he scored against Spurs and tell me that was a player that doesn’t want to stay. It’s a joke that he gets questioned all the time, it’s a joke that against Villa after 2 goals that Scott had a go at him and yet he defends Berbatov just ‘cuz he said he dreams of playing for us, if he fucking dreams it he should’ve signed for us before Spurs when we wanted, he’s just paying lip service and people are falling for it. Don’t get me wrong, I support Berbatov and i’m glad we have him but Ronaldo > Berbatov on the pitch yet Ronaldo gets all the stick from people such as Scott whereas Berbatov has split opinion, why can’t we just give our players the support and benefit of the doubt rather than having a go at them at every chance, O’Shea, Berbatov, Ronaldo all deserve our support and not shitty little cheap digs.

  68. OTRed says:

Of course its dead until it magically resurrects again during the summer. If I remember correctly, his dream was to play in SPAIN which includes but is not limited to Madrid, what stops him from pulling off the same antics again if Barca come calling? They’re in a more attractive position than Madrid was last season when he was itching to leave and judging by the “el classico”, he’d get 40+ goals in that league easy.

  69. wazza says:

agree with King Eric on Heskey, Doyle, Owen & Trezeguet not the strikers we need.Santa Cruz would do better.we need a pacy striker who can run behind defences.

  70. Scott the Red says:

Mic – do you go to the games every week? Do you see the way he behaves when he’s not on the ball every week? If you do, I really cannot understand how you could be so supportive of him.

I came out in support of Ronnie after Sunderland but he was right back to his usual tricks in a European Cup semi-final ffs! If he can’t put his temper tantrums and self-obsession aside for a game of such magnitude then it is very concerning!

Berbatov tries to win back the ball when he loses it anyway, so I don’t understand why he’s being brought in to it.

    DK – Ronnie is not a kid. He’s a 24-year-old man.

  71. costas says:

By the way guys, what happened to that boxer who was going to knock out Ronaldo?I think they call him Hutton? I think he was boxing last night. I wonder how he did…

  72. wazza says:

costas: that Hatton was knocked out in the 2nd round, lol
i like that Manny Pacquiao.he is a quite guy & not like Hatton to boast off.
as the saying goes, action speaks louder than words

  73. Dave Mack says:

I’ve read all these again and conclude that it’s the sort of topic ABU’s love to laugh at us at.
We’re going for a repeat of our double, the world player of the year and whatever you think of him, a valuable member of our team has come out saying that he’s not interested in going to Madrid and that the only thing he’s thinking about is winning the CL in Rome. ….. And this is our response??? (With some exceptions ..Mic / DK / Giles Oakley etc.)
Let’s get a grip and stop trying to read into the words of an immature, immensenly talented young footballer who’s first language isn’t English.
Let’s judge by what he dose and for me, Ronnie and Rooney are the difference between us and fourth place. (As SAF says his constant goal threat is incrediable and second to noone>0
Then let’s see if United offer the right contract extensions and he accepts.
Until then, I’ll be singing “Viva Ronaldo” loud and proud. (Oh and BTW Scott, I’m a season ticket holder as is my son who feeIs the same X20!!)

  74. Gman says:

    Scott…

i think most of us are having love/hate relationship with Ronaldo.. one minute hes having a tantrum and acting like a child and it makes me mad, but than next minute hes scoring some amazing goal..

i have to say i feel like an abused wife, i just keep on loving him no matter how troubled he can be.. (He said he wants to be here, he loves us he really does, oh i love him too)

  75. Scott the Red says:

“i have to say i feel like an abused wife, i just keep on loving him no matter how troubled he can be.. ”

That is maybe my favourite comment ever.

  76. themarkedman72 says:

@ Scott the red…. I reckon he has made up for his off-field talk by stating he wants to stay several times.
However I agree with you he has been carrying on this year until the last month or two..now he is starting to get it together there as well.
I think he has decided he wants to be a great player and he needs to be at united to do that..Real cant make him a GREAT. Thats his motivation. blah blah blah…had that arguement a million times.

WHAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW IS…..

I almost feel sorry for ronaldo having stood on your toes…
So scott what will make it good??
A champs league winning goal and signing a new contract??
Tell me is there anything he can do to appease you??

  77. Asredasmedad says:

He’s a f**king liability who won’t friggen defend. All these years going on about Madrid and now he wants to stay probably cos he sees that they are doing s***e. We should have given him the cold shoulder when he got Rooney sent off.

  78. pipmc05 says:

    wanker

  79. suhayl says:

Scott – i go to games…..yes i watch his antics at times…and it doesnt please me 1 bit and yes we’ll always remain unhappy with all that. However he has improved of late….and when will people realise and take him for what he is, hard as it may be. Instead of expecting the pope to become muslim…..or osama bin laden to become the secretary of state for america.

And does ronaldo give a fuck about the fans??? Ofcourse not. Saying that though..that goes for 95% players worldwide. So what…you’ll get the odd nevos schoseys giggsy here and there. But thats a rarity.

Fans arent stupid to think….players sit there crying over there cornflakes about us ‘poor’ fans.
