Guillem Balague broke the story this week that Cristiano Ronaldo had already agreed a deal to join Real Madrid next summer.
Balague reckons that Ronaldo’s recent denial of such a deal at the recent FIFA World Player of the Year awards was very significant. After reports surfaced that Ronaldo had agreed a deal with Florentino Pérez, who wanted to strengthen his bid to become Real Madrid president, our player mentioned this man by name. “My agent does not have an agreement with Florentino Pérez,” said Ronaldo.
However, Balague said it’s Ramon Calderon who Ronaldo’s agent has an agreement with. Still, Ronaldo is planning on staying, if you can believe his comments today.
“I know it will be hard but I want to achieve even more things with these great players we have at United,” said Ronaldo. “We can dominate. Manchester has a lot of young players – myself included – so the future for the club looks good. I want to be here, to be a part of the success that I believe lies ahead. For me, it’s great to be a part of this fantastic club and my motivation is to win more trophies. I’m still very ambitious. I want to carry on and repeat the success I’ve already had.”
He’ll be gone by summer 2009 … all the best CR7 ..

I know that everybody on here doesn’t agree, but I would really like us to give the lad the benefit of the doubt and forgive him. True, he made an arse of himself last summer, but he’s a kid with tremendous pressure on his shoulders, everybody makes mistakes, and he’s been making all the right noises lately. I would like nothing more than to have a committed, determinded Ronaldo in our side. Peoples heads can be turned, but they can also see that they made a mistake and should be forgiven if they show that they actually acknowledge the mistake they made. I feel that we are at this point with Ronaldo. But he maybe needs to feel that the supporters aren’t pushing him away as well? (However, fuck us over again and you’re gone!)

Also, he seems to like America and the best avenue into America is to remain in an English speaking country in their favourite league the Premiership, if he wanted to play there in his later years a sponsorship deal with Nike is pretty handy too.

Ronaldo will at some point play for Madrid it is obvious, but not while Fergie is still at the club as the manager.
We just need to enjoy him while he is at the club, but not be surprised when he leaves that to me is the best way to look at the senario.
OP, I’ve not heard him say anything like this for a year or so now…and can’t really compare to last season because that was prior to all the Madrid speculation and ‘having his head turned’…Taking the Madrid speculation into account this time, I think it seems pretty convincing and that going back on it would be pretty catastrophic for his reputation/friendships at United etc..
Jake he spent from December till the end of the season saying stuff like this last season – in fact straight after the final in Moscow he made two statements saying he would definitely stay and then renegaded on them.
reneged….yeah I aknowledged that but I think you have to discount last season because that was obviously prior to any approach from Madrid and Moscow was clearly before any actual contact had been made. These comments carry much more weight for me because they obviously come with the Madrid speculation taken into account, he has considered and at some stage wanted to leave but possibly turned a corner in the last couple of months as I said in my first post. He must surely understand that if he were to leave this summer after making these comments it would be disastrous fo his reputation. I am not Ronaldo’s biggest fan, but I honestly think his attitude has begun to change recently and his comments reflect that.
He’s just trademarked CR9 for fuck’s sake. he should just come out and say “I’ll be gone by next summer. I’ve had a good time, thanks for everyone who’s supported me.”

He NEVER MENTIONED ANYONE by name. Balague made up the (mis)quoted comment as a ‘proof’ of his ‘exclusive’ and ’sensational’ story.
