Wayne Rooney played a cameo role in our 0-0 draw at the San Siro, still recovering from his hamstring injury at the time.

He has been on a great goalscoring run at the moment and is desperate to get on the field tonight. If there’s anyone who has the determination and passion to drag us through tonight, as well as the ability, it’s Rooney, and I’m all the more confident over tonight’s game knowing he will be on the park.

When asked if missing out on the first leg in the San Siro will make him more determined to impress tonight, Rooney confessed he was itching to get on.

“Of course,” Rooney replied. “Whenever you’re sitting on the bench you want to come on and get involved. I didn’t get too long in Milan but I was impressed with the way the team played without me so I can’t really complain too much! Hopefully I’ll play tonight and by the time that game comes around we’ll have watched the video of the first leg and identified a few weaknesses of theirs that we can exploit. So we’ll set about trying to do that and unsettle them.”
