Rooney: Bald Patch Helps With Headers

After scoring his seventh successive header last night, Wayne Rooney has claimed it’s all down to his receding hair line!

“It’s coming off my bald patch and that’s helping me score,” joked Rooney. “I’ve been working on my heading a lot and thankfully it’s paying off. ‘I’ve been in the box a lot more, I’ve been working on my timing and my finishing. I’ve played up front in every game I’ve played this season and that’s definitely the main reason for me scoring a lot of goals.”

    He said that before the Carling Cup final too. It was probably a joke from the likes of Rio first, and Wayne thought he would use it too.

  2. willierednut says:

    They can come off your backside for all i care, just as long as they go in.

  3. themufc1999 says:

    Hope he does’nt grow a comb-over.

  4. redscot says:

    Its fine which ever way they go in.Just keep banging them in King.
    I dont think you can do a comb over with no hair, He could purchase a nice Syrup though in fact a blonde weave might suit him.

  5. AlphaRS says:

    @willierednut
    Agree with that.
    Just read a brilliant description of the United midfield on Goal.com!
    “….in their midfield they have an unspectacular set of individuals but an absolutely fearsome combination.”
    How true is that?!

  6. Costas says:

    Ha. I am glad Wazza sees the funny side of it. So it’s got nothing to do with him working harder this season? :D

  7. RedMist says:

    Rooney working harder this season?
    Don’t think he is working harder this season at all, he always put s a shift in the only difference is where he is playing….up front. His work rate is the same as always imo.

  8. james21 says:

    Nah Sir Bobby Charlton was King of the combovers and knew where the goal was too. Rooney gets better and better this is what S.A.F Saw in him. Genius. WAZZA!

  9. willierednut says:

    Just for men Wazza lol.

  10. united.george says:

    Richie Delaet was just stretchered off with what looks like a bad leg injury in the reserve game against City…could even be a broken foot since they put the foam cast on it while they took him off….

    we are still leading 2-1 though.

  11. Costas says:

    @united.george

    Oh that’s terrible news. I hope the lad will make a speedy recovery.

    @RedMist

    I wasn’t refering to his work rate. I meant that he has worked harder to get better with his heading.

  12. united.george says:

    reserve game ended up at 2-2…penalty to city allowed them to tie it…Possebon played as well, good to see him back, although he missed some chances towards the end to win it.

    @costas, what is the deal with PAO? losing at home? after beating Roma?

  13. Costas says:

    @united.george

    I am dumbfounded myself. I don’t watch the game because I have some work to do over my laptop. The thing with PAO is that they are very fragile at the back. Looks like Liege have exploited that. They have conceded 2 or 3 at home in most of their European games this season. The Roma result I think can be attributed to Ranieri and how his teams go to sleep during their games.

  14. Costas says:

    Good to hear about Possebon. Sir Alex lost another option for the right back berth, but it looks like he has another one for central midfield.

  15. Xyth says:

    Apparently fascists are looking to team up Rooney with Ronaldo next season. Their mouth-peace Cadena Radio, even before last nights match in Madrid was finished has stated that Rooney was their main target.

    Although you’d expect Rooney to say no, Glazers may want to cash in. Should this happen, we should really start thinking of extreme actions against Glazers including boycotting matches.

    Rooney is simply irreplaceable.

  16. willierednut says:

    Bad news about Richie Delaet, it’s the season for bad injurys.

  17. King Eric says:

    AlphaRS – Spot on pal about our midfield. Great quote.

    As for Rooney he is over rated in my opinion! Definately not world class.

  18. King Eric says:

    Xyth – The Glazers won’t cash in, not against Fergie anyway. What would the result be? United would be considerably weaker, may not win the league thus losing huge amounts of Revenue and losing their greatest ever manager in the process. I will be accused by Fred no doubt of being pro Glazer which I really aren’t but they have not yet to date made us sell any players. Ronnie was ALWAYS gonna go.

  19. AlphaRS says:

    @King Eric
    Cheers mate.
    Rooney not world class?
    I don’t think he is quite the finished article yet.
    Would be brilliant if he picked up the Ballon D’Or for this season….

  20. Always Be Closing says:

    Come on then King Eric, who is better than Rooney then?

  21. AlphaRS says:

    @Always Be Closing
    Pele?! It’s a close one to call out of the two though!

  22. Always Be Closing says:

    Which white player is better? :P

  23. AlphaRS says:

    @Xyth
    The Fascists are always tapping up players through the media.
    It’s disgraceful that this dinosaur Sepp Blatter allows it to go on.
    When are they going to understand that too many individuals does not make a team. Man for man they maybe the best in the world but if they can’t play as a team it is unlikely they will have any success.

  24. AlphaRS says:

    @Always Be Closing
    In truth Torres would be in with a shout if he was not so injury prone….

  25. rrou says:

    :( no hargreaves in the reserve game?

  26. redscot says:

    I think you lad’s are Aff yer fuckin heids, If you dont think Wayne is World Class. Or maybe it’s just a wind up and am missing something.
    Am assuming here Cantona was World class? give me a fucking break.He was great brilliant at United, for France?
    Wayne has demonstrated his prowess on several front’s both at Club level and on the International platform.
    For me and I hate to repeat this, he and SAF have been the glue that have held the club together through a chaotic time in defence and in the financial arena.

  27. redscot says:

    @rrou Nope but its that knee recurrence again, it’s best to take it easy. We can only hope and pray. knell to the East tonite M8. We will see him soon I have it on best authority.My crystal ball’s.

  28. AlphaRS says:

    @redscot
    I’m just having a laugh mate.
    The only thing I can think Rooney did wrong yesterday was he tried to many Berbatov flicks and give the ball away?
    Other than that his contribution in scoring 4 goals over 2 legs against the mighty AC Milan shows that he is coming of age and I think he can still get better.

  29. rrou says:

    @redscot thanks mate. he can take his time coming back, i just hope he can reach top level again. red nev should give him a few tips

  30. SteniS says:

    Yeah, I was thinking the same about Rooney trying to be a bit Berba-esque in the first half. Didn’t go to well for him though. I was hoping Berbatov would feature in the starting lineup and I missed his artistry, but it’s kinda hard to complain now, innit?

  31. redscot says:

    @ alpha.M8 He is still young although 5 years older than me.I said/typed during the Match i would pull him off after his first Goal, I thought the tie was over then.(what do i know).I was chuffed as fuck that he did stay on to get on the end of delightfull pass from Nani.
    Anyways I am not gonna start writing screed’s on Wayne.I just think as most lads do who watch him closely, he is right now unstopable.
    Lets just enjoy that.
    I thought you might be having a laff.( in my Peggy from Eastender’s accent)

  32. steamdigit says:

    rooney is the king of the hill at the moment. bald patch or not, he still has enough hair on the rest of his body to make up for it – lol!

    the scary thing about him is that even though he is big and short – he still has got more than enough pace and spring in his jump as well as timing to be a skilled finisher

    whilst he hasnt got the style and flair of henry, higuain, torres, nistelrooy etc… he is still world class! never doubt that – his awareness of the rest of the team, the goal, goalie and defenders is top-notch, so forget about style and flair – stick to finishin and being effective!

    if i shave me head bald and can play like that, id gladly do it! heck, im sure the world’s strikers would – maybe ibrahimovic can consider that! lol

  33. redscot says:

    @ stenis….. Innit. fucking brilliant.I dont think he was trying to be a Poser, not that i think Dimatar is a Poser before you jump on my case. We all can see what he bring’s to the game.You must agree surely on a potent threat and the likely possibility of a Goal its not from our classy Bulgarian.
    I would much prefer Micheal which wont happen sadly, it must annoy our enemies and( return soon Class act)
    The Villa like Dimatar, swap and take Milner.

  34. Drew Vader says:

    Sucks about Ctl Alt Deleat. Hope its not too bad. He seems like a good lad from the interviews

  35. TheRadLegion says:

    Does anyone listen to The Guardian Podcast?
    Full of crap.. I only listened about 15 minutes and came to a conclusion that the Guardian is craptastic.

    To sum up.. Neville is a joke, Rooney is just so-so, United is an ordinary team.

    Yeah whatever.

  36. Fred says:

    FFS Sounds like a right load of shite aimed at ABU cunts, just like the Times podcast and the entire TalkSHITE radio station.

    Best to ignore that kind of crap. They’re just wind-up merchants.

  37. Costas says:

    Come on guys. The rags lost all kind of credibility when they labeled the dippers the favorites for the title!

  38. obertanthenewstar says:

    hey all
    just wonderin.. did anyone notice that eden hazard playing against liverpool ?? he was fucking class and i would love to see him play on our left side.. he took on players.. delivered dangerous crosses.. he crosses for the only goal of the game.. we have been constantly been linked with him.. reports suggesting he is off to barcelona if i remember correctly.. but i think we should try and get him.. he looks class and young too.. belgian international.. let me know wot you guys think

  39. TheRadLegion says:

    I thought Obertan is the new star? :)

  40. obertanthenewstar says:

    haha
    he is.. he looked good in the reserves… didnt have much of the ball but when he did his direct running and pace was good to watch… he was up against boyata and neouha.. first teamers for city so he did well.. gonna be a star for us.. but hazard plays like ronaldo at times.. and hes only 19
    he totally skinned gerrard and mascherano at the same time.. which brought a smile to my face

  41. rooney the new king says:

    Xyth – madrid are a joke, they spend all that money look to sack the manager and still they are imbarssed. Like rooney will go to that lot

  42. Scousers Suck says:

    Lads, Im not sure if anyone has seen this yet. Check it out:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/mar/12/manchester-united-ban-players-glazers

    Absolute rubbish.

  43. rohitvarkey says:

    @obertanthenewstar
    ya i watched that game 2….was quite impressed with hazard

  44. Emily will be in the blaize at 11 on Sunday says:

    The 80 million sale of Ronaldo , who’s actions like a fricking baby where shocking on Wednesday night, and the buying of Valencia to replace a winger leaving Rooney up front was genius and one of sir alexs greatest moves in management. And I stand by that

  45. Costas says:

    @GHTT

    Hi mate. I hope you have fun on Sunday! I agree. 97 goals in 45 games agrees with you too. Ronaldo was great for us no doubt, but we had to go back to basics in our attacking play. And that’s what we’ve done this year. I just wish we had more cover up front in case Wazza is injured. I don’t like hearing that he is already doing lighter training in order not to burn out before the World Cup.

  46. knightsmith says:

    If Carlsberg sponsored football teams, they’d probably be the worst in the world.

  47. Taper Jean Girl says:

    Off Topic, Hargreaves didn’t play last night,cause he to go to the doctor today. He will play the next reserve game on Thursday.

  48. Taper Jean Girl says:

    Off Topic, Hargreaves didn’t play last night,cause he had to go to the doctor today. He will play the next reserve game on Thursday.

  49. Taper Jean Girl says:

    Sorry for double post. Stupid phone.

  50. Molly says:

    That’s good news about Hargreaves hopefully.

  51. lucasthebest says:

    that’s bald patch of his, I would kiss it if you score like this every game.. Disgusting? Of course!! But still, I would.. I know you would too, Utd fans!! Liked Laurent Blanc did that on Barthez head… Ewww!

  52. Bob Koh says:

    With Roonie chalking up the goals from his bald pate, who knows, it might become fashionable again. It will be a laugh if all the team go baldy! Imagine Park or Rafa like that!

  53. Tony Starks says:

    hey pwople!
    ghtt… time will tell but at this moment it’s hard to disagree with your statement

  54. Wakey says:

    @Scousers Suck

    The fact they include

    • Ejected a supporter from the audience of an MUTV show after he refused to remove a green-and-gold scarf.
    • Sacked a steward after 19 years’ service for attempting to return a confiscated anti-Glazer banner to its owners.

    As facts undermines their whole story. For a second I thought I was reading the Daily Mail with the reporting being so poor.

    As people have already said before the Fan who supposedly was ejected for wearing G&G was done so on a day when it was filled with G&G so if that was the reason why was it just one person ejected.

    And the Steward was sacked for ‘Theft’ as he took the banner from the confiscated items and took it to his car. Anyone of us who works for a company would be sacked for that.

    Perhaps if the Media, MUST and other sources like blogs could actually stick to the Facts and use common sense not only would we all be so much better informed BUT it wouldn’t ultimatly undermine the campaigns by building everything on lies which may sell papers and may initially get people motivated but eventually its just going to come falling down

  55. aig alex is god says:

    Ronnie did nothing wrong on Wednesday. he was pretty good that game only to be let down by his team mates. Naturally he was disappointed with the exit. hardly expect him to be calm that his team were out of the CL at home and that too to lyon

  56. King Eric says:

    Lads , Lads I was clearly joking about Rooney being over rated and not world class. I was referring to discussions earlier in the season when that is EXACTLY what some fans were saying. He is the worlds best, simple as.

  57. come off it mate says:

    @King Eric
    He’s not world class. He’s too good for this world. He plays football from the Heavens.

  58. come off it mate says:

    have you read sralex’s comments on sky sports? hargreaves is “ready to play”.
    imagine how tennacious a midfield with park, hargreaves and the football genius would be…

    what a difference that would make against barca if we happen to get them in europe this season.

    here’s hoping

  59. Red Devil says:

    @ King Eric

    The sarcasm was actually apparent from miles off… :D
    I am actually surprised that many people didn’t get it….

    I guess its some of the newer members who probably dont know you too well on here!

  60. Wakey says:

    @redscot

    TBH I’m split on Rooney as World Class. Sometimes that word is used too easierly imho. At times, especially this season he seems to be unstopable but as I have said in the past when it comes to some of the simple parts of the game, specifically his simple passing he lets himself down. Hopefully he works on these passes the way he has worked on his heading and then theres no debate to be have but atm it just stops him being a ‘complete’ player

    “Nope but its that knee recurrence again”
    Where did you get that it was a knee issue. The Club and SAF say that there is no issue. I suspect the review by the specialist on the morning suggested it was too early to play his first game especially a Manchester Derby. Theres no point rushing him and throwing him into a game that has an added compeative element to it

  61. Wakey says:

    @AlphaRS

    I believe I’m right in saying that Blatter is actually an honorary member of Real Madrid so he won’t ever do anything against them

  62. King Eric says:

    Red devil – Cheers mate, glad some people got the sarcasm.

    come off it mate – Yeah I have just read that about Hargreaves. Great to hear he is “ready to play”. Also Giggsy is back, will probably be rested Sunday but will be raring to go against the vermin.

  63. King Eric says:

    Wakey – Yes Blatter is on their board in some capacity.

  64. come off it mate says:

    @ king eric

    blatter is on the real madrid board in some way!!?? seriously? that is a fucking disgrace. first franco, then the spanish taxpayer (when they sold their stadium for an extortionate sum of money to the local council or whatever equivalent they have, and were practically given it back, allowing them to go on the first galactico spending spree, i’m sure most of you are familiar), and now the president of FIFA being on their board!!???

    I honestly cannot believe that. absolutely scandalous. they really do get away with murder.

    did you know they were awarded a ‘badge of special merit’ or something like that by FIFA.
    the only other club to have one is Sheffield United. (who codefied what we now call football)

    so they were funded by franco, the spanish taxpayer, the spanish banking sector, have arguably the most powerful man in football on their board, and have been awarded equal status as the club who practically invented football.

    that is a complete joke. talk about favouritism. i would be ashamed to be a ‘madridista’ or whatever shit-head name they give themselves.

    really puts into perspective how much classier a team like barca are.

    up lyon.

  65. come off it mate says:

    glad to get that out of my system. they are like a bunch of chavs who have just won the lottery. barca/united/milan etc have built their success.

    and speaking of chavs who have just won the lottery and cleared out argos’ jewellery section, that is just as big a shame if city get that money from the council

  66. aig alex is god says:

    Rooney is world class, no doubt about it. For that we dont need to start comparisions with other strikers or with ronaldos 42 goal record to prove it.It is about how much you can impact the vital games and Rooney has certainly done that this season on more than one ocassion.

    That dosent mean he cant improve. he can try and score more from outside the box and improve his free kicks

    I took a lot of stick for slagging the poor performance at Wolves( which some interpreted as me saying we are a ‘one man team’) but the difference Rooney made on Wednesday was very visible. There is something about him that keeps defenders on their toes and makes us click.No disrespect to berbatov but defenders dont fear him , they do fear rooney.

  67. alpha_rs says:

    @aig alex is god
    No defender will fear the 4-6-0 formation when Berbatov is on the pitch…!

  68. come off it mate says:

    the 4-6-0 formation? can you explain? i don’t play fm so i don’t really understand 4-6-0, does that mean we play without forwards?

  69. Datnana says:

    Yeah, he’s heavenly class, out of this world and God sent. Go Rooney!

  70. alpha_rs says:

    @come off it mate
    Yes mate. When Berbatov plays alone upfront for United he drops deep to flick the ball on. Like a creative midfielder. So deep that the 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation we play turns in to a 4-6-0. I thought this was very noticeable when the midfield and wingers didn’t have a target man to play the ball in to when Rooney came off the pitch.

    I am about to watch a re run of the Champions League Final 2009.
    I haven’t seen the game since the final on tv and I know I’m gonna have to face up to the dissappointment of watching United lose. It’s still gonna hurt too!

  71. Datnana says:

    King Eric – Yeah, he’s heavenly class, out of this world and God sent. Go Rooney!

  72. willierednut says:

    @wakey
    Of course Rooney’s world class 35 starts, 30 goals, you can’t argue with goal scoring record. I do agree his touch sometimes lets him down but it’ll improve just as his heading has improved.

  73. King Eric says:

    The performance at Wolves in my opinion was not all to do with the fact Rooney wasn’t playing. NONE of the lads turned up, simple as that. Wolves made it very difficult and got in our faces and stopped us playing football. On wednesday aside from the fact Rooney was playing, everyone was on their game and Milan let us play, thats the difference for me. The result at Molineaux was fucking huge.

  74. rooney the new king says:

    come off it mate – the 4 6 0 formation is simuler to what we had in the 07/08 season where it would be carrick and scholes controling the midfield, giggs would be the left sided midfielder who would keep the shape out wide, and ronaldo would tuck inside and be the inside forward but sometimes he would play wide right and it would let rooney and tevez be the all action players, but there would be no forward that would lead the line and be the vocal point it was an interchangeable system not the midfielders or wide players giving the service for the strikers, it needed individual brilliance to score the goals which is partly why rooneys goals was always below 20 goals. The difference is this season is we have a vocal point now that rooney has mastered the art of leading the attack, it does help rooney that valencia and nani are giving such brilliant service to rooney.
