Following Manchester City’s 4-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur earlier today, and Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Sunderland, we find ourselves at the top of the table.

Wayne Rooney has spoken of his happiness at going top, but rightly acknowledges that there’s still a long way to go yet.

That’s what we’re all playing for, being number one at the end of the season, and it’s nice to be there now. But there’s a long way to go, it’s still early days and we have to keep working hard to make sure we can stay there or finish there at the end of the season.

Rooney scored his first league goal of the season this afternoon but insists he wasn’t getting worried about his scoring form.

I wasn’t worried. It’s my fifth goal of the season for United and I’ve scored for England so it was just about getting off the mark in the league. Hopefully everyone will concentrate on me playing my football now and I’ll enjoy it.
