Wayne Rooney believes we have an advantage whenever we play at home due to the fear opposition fans feel when awaiting to play us at Old Trafford.

Rooney came with Everton on Boxing Day 2003 and lost 3-2. The season before that he was a second half sub and Everton lost 3-0.

So far this season, we’ve won 14 of our 15 games at home, drawing the other, after a freak mistake from Edwin Van der Sar against West Brom. We have picked up 43 points from home games, an incredible 11 points more than any other team in the league has managed at home.

“I have been a player in the away dressing room and I know the fear you feel before the game and you are not expected to get anything out of it,” said Rooney. “So we have that psychological advantage even before the game starts but we know we are good enough to beat anyone here.”

Rooney has an unusual pre-match ritual which involves kitman, Albert Morgan.

“The day before a game I always ask Albert which strip we will be wearing – shirt, shorts and socks – so I can try to visualise the game.”
