Wayne Rooney has sung the praises of teenagers Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair following their excellent performance against Chelsea.

He praised McNair for how well he handled Didier Drogba, who Jose Mourinho described as a “different animal”. Drogba only completed 13 passes over 90 minutes, with a dreadful accuracy of just 46%, so it would be unfair to credit McNair with marking a good player out of the game, but he played with great composure and had a couple of decent efforts on goal too.

I thought they [McNair, Shaw] were excellent. Paddy came up against a very physical player in Didier Drogba and handled him really well. As for Luke, we all know what a talent he is. He’s been out for a while and has come back today giving a very good performance. I think the two lads will take a lot of confidence from that display.
