Wayne Rooney scored for Everton tonight in their 1-1 draw with Manchester City. After the game, he was interviewed by Gary Neville, who asked him how sweet was it to score at the Etihad?

“What? Again?” Rooney replied cheekily. After all, nobody has scored more goals in the Manchester derby than him.

“It was nice, obviously, with my history with Manchester United,” he continued. “I’ve scored a few times here. But to do it today in such an important game for us, early on in the season, with some tough games coming up, was a sweet moment. I’m sure the red half of Manchester will have enjoyed that one.”

Rooney was also asked about what position he would be playing in for Everton and our former no.10 made reference to his lack of playing time last season.

“The manager has made it clear he wants to play me in any of the attacking positions and I’ve done that all of my career,” he said. “I think the thing for me is to play. Last year I didn’t feel as if I played enough games. If you’re not playing in the games you don’t get that match fitness and I think I paid the price for that. But I’ve had a good pre-season and played a lot of games over the past few weeks. I feel good and I think that’s vital for me if I’m playing in these different positions.”
