Rooney: Why Does Lampard Keep His 50 Deflected Goals?

Wayne Rooney scores against ArsenalBack in November, United drew 2-2 with Arsenal at the Emirates, a point the gooners celebrated heartily. The first goal came just before half time, after Ronaldo played the ball in to Wayne Rooney. Rooney flicked the ball past Almunia, taking a deflection off William Gallas. It was announced earlier this week the the Dubious Goals Committee have ruled that the goal has been put down as a Gallas own goal, taking his league goals tally down to six.

Rooney has today revealed he is non too happy about the decisions, particularly in light of how many of Frank Lampard’s goals find the back of the net thanks to a deflection.

“I don’t know who gives and doesn’t give these goals,” he said. “Over the last three years, Frank Lampard has had about 50 deflected goals and never had one took off him. I’ve had one deflected goal and had it took off me, so maybe they need to look at the game a bit closer.”

Was it a Rooney or Gallas goal?

Whilst I agree that it was an own goal, I think the same ruler should be used with anyone as Wayne rightly said.

I just hope that he goes on a scoring run of his and we’ll finally see both him, carlos and ronny at their full potential as I feel that there is still more to come from them as I don’t think they have been at the top of their game at the same time.

    Which is frightening really….

IT WAS A ROONEY GOAL OF COURSE!! ;O)

Seriously, I’d say it was a gallas own goal due to the fact that if Rooney had played the exact same shot with no other player on the pitch it wouldn’t have gone in. It was a great goal at the time and I’m only writing from memory but goals = points and Wayne has scored the amount of beautiful /important goals that some forward players would get in a lifetime. Portsomouth, Boro, Newcastle, Fenerbache, AC Milan.. an the list goes on.

    Great celebration too!!

Rooney is da man! It aint Gallas` goal, its Wazzas! :-D
What a goal he scored today. I hope he or Ronaldo will become the clubs top scorer in all time.

Anybody know who makes up this dubious goals committee?. Not comprised of Southern journalists is it, cos that would make sense why the Roon missed out on the decision. It did seem like it wouldn’t go in if Gallas hadn’t interjected, but Wayne is right about Lampard – still that’s life.

  6. rooney fans says:

it so clear a rooney goal, they dun give it to rooney just becos they afraid rooney will score more goals than ronaldo if rooney is not injured at all this season

  7. kramer says:

who gives a damn? what matters is that united scored, and rooney’s presence made it happen.

So sad that a supposedly-great forward has to bitch about a midfielder’s goals.

    Speaking as a Hammer…
Lampard is an overrated fat mug.with an abysmal goals to shots ratio. He doesnt tackle or track back nor close down anwhere on the pitch. Rooney, and anyone else who wants to, is perfectly entitled to slate him for any reason they see fit. Rooney is one of our genuine world class talents… do you think that if he were an Italian playing in Serie A the authorities there would have taken that goal from him? Course not. Naturally the authorities like the simpering Lampard – he takes great care in interviews to try and come across as a future manager… fact is he is half public schooboy and half urban scrote (anyone else remember him and a few mates, including John Terry, shouting drunken abuse at Americans in Heathrow the day after 9/11?).
Dont stress about it Wayne. Only one of the two of you has a guaranteed, injuries aside, glittering career ahead.
