Ruud Returns For Sir Alex’s Statue Unveiling

Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed today that he will be returning to Manchester for the first time since leaving the club in the summer of 2006.

After a break down in his relationship with the manager, our brilliant former striker has since admitted that the pair have worked on their differences and are on good terms again.

Van Nistelrooy has today revealed that he will be at Old Trafford on November 23rd for the unveiling of Sir Alex Ferguson’s statue at Old Trafford. He will stick around for the following day to watch United take on QPR.

Out of interest, eight years ago yesterday Van Nistelrooy scored the penalty against Arsenal to help bring an end to their 49 game unbeaten run.

Welcome back, Ruud.

Ruud will be welcomed back with open arms.

  2. Ash says:

I hope Van persie also scores plenty of goals like his dutch colleague Ruud did. RVP is also a dangerous striker. 3-4 Top season by RVP would be great.

  3. Den says:

So glad he and SAF solved their differences! One of the best finishers in the world when he played with us and one of my favorite players. Will be nice to see him at Old Trafford again, even tough it will be in the directors box.

Like how much this goal meant for him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDe54Gr_32k
That was the time when I hated those Arsenal cunts, to think now I just feel sorry for them! :)

  4. Ash says:

I would not be lying if I accept the fact that Ruud Van nistelrooy and David beckham are the reason I started to love and support Manchester united. Beckham passes and nistelrooy’s finshing were top class.

  5. samuel - united WE stand says:

One of the best finishers of all time. He may have the smile of a horse but he’s Deadly in and around the 18 yard box. A shame he didn’t finish his career at united but keeping a burgoening talent in ronaldo was more important. good to know he sorted things with fergie, the dictator extraordinaire with no time for sentiments. Deserves the statue.

  6. wayne says:

I love him he was immense for Utd one of the best strikers of all time
    Welcome back indeed

  7. Chan the man says:

    Ruud is a thorough bred

  8. samuel - united WE stand says:

The thing with ruud is, his finishing were all of different quality. Even though he wasn’t the fastest, Could burst past defenders with acceleration due to the fact he was sharper, quick minded. He out-witted them most of the time. His first touch and instintive brilliant finishing were a joy to watch. When you talk about composure as a striker, he was a hallmark of that. Put the fact he’s great finisher, he really was technically gifted. Sometimes i go back and watch his brilliance, worth it.

  9. FletchTHEMAN says:

Ruud is always going to be my striker in any top United XI!
Loved that guy. Last striker we had that you could literally see the opposition CBs soiling themselves when he got the ball 20m out w his back to the goal. All the players since then have held the ball up and laid it off.
Not Ruud. Always figured he would turn and shoot. (All you younger lads who envied that in Drogba? Ya baby, Ruud was all that and more).

219 games, 150 goals. Not a finer finisher since. Hoping Robin proves me wrong ;)

  10. samuel - united WE stand says:

Fletch – true. His first instinct is to smash one into the net. He could be tightly marked but he will find a way past the defender with quick-mindedness, a great first touch before ramming one home. He had everything as a centre forward, world class player.

  11. Jrdonl says:

I m pretty sure he had top scored most goals scored in a season by a player in 3 different leagues..fact Ruud the man..the penalty miss vs arsenal then arsenal players slapping him backhead i wished a fightback there..

  12. dazbomber says:

The thing with Ruud when he had a chance you never thought he would miss, he was so assured two footed and good in the air he was complete

  13. Vidic says:

    Ruud Vs Fulham
    *SPEECHLESS*

  14. United Till I Die says:

Now RUUD was a World Class Striker. No arguments there.

  15. FletchTHEMAN says:

But here is a compilation of Ruuds Untied goals. Apologies about the music.

  16. Gandalf says:

Welcome back Ruud. You were one of the great united srikers and absolutely adored. I was very disappointed to hear about his transfer request on eve of cup final – but its all forgiven now.

He deserved to have won more honours with united, but it was an unfortunate time with many problems in defence and goalie barthez and then midfield. If we had won more, he probably would not have been wanting to move. Anyway I digress.
His records speaks for itself. His presence gave a certain strength to me that one chance and he will bury it. Love the chant Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud and he pissed off gooners :-)

  17. JD says:

Off topic to the tune stretford end arising

    Boarded council house
We know that your a fucking scouse

  18. Costas says:

    Nice. :D

  19. ididnotzeeit says:

One of the finest strikers to ever grace the premiership.

Chicharito hates Chavs, Gary Neville hates Scousers, but they’re still no match for Ruud, he made Gunners shit their Trousers ;)

  20. Redharry4life says:

top United striker -legend. Adored watching him play!

Hope we get a good few RUUUUUDDDDDSS from the ground against QPR

Best United striker of all time? For me it is a toss up between him and the orginal King Dennis LAW.

I neever saw Tommy Taylor play but I think it would be between them 3

  21. sheppertonni says:

Hernandez was electric tuesday night, and a standing ovation, just deserved!
we need to keep him in this form, what a player!

  22. Unitedforeva says:

I love RVN just as I now love RVP. RUUUUUUUUUD!

  23. orez says:

YEH that sounds nostalgic. I always loved him too, he could really get the job done for us even when we were playing shit. He was an amazing striker. Welcome back RVN.

  24. Ruudboy says:

Ruud is my all time favourite player. I loved so much dt I once fought an Arsenal fan for slighting him… After he left I shifted my love to Rooney, but RVN is my all time best.

  26. stanley says:

my favorite a leather finisher. RUUD

  27. Hamzah says:

I was over joyed when he signed for us, I had watched him while at PSV and was just incredible, an unbelievable finisher and boy was he fantastic for us too, I recall Solskjaer saying that he he never seen a more lethal finisher, now that comming from one of the best finishers to have graced the Old Trafford pitch, welcome back Ruud.

  28. fergie is the boss says:

delighted both have settled their differences, and class of him to turn up for the unveiling.

  29. wayne says:

Wow just read RVP turned down 300k a week from City to sign for Utd.The source is a respected Gunner blogger,if true that’s fucking incredible and just shows how most respectable footballers with some class think of City. That shit hole just attract whores of the highest order, soulless cunts

  30. WeAreUnited says:

    RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD

    RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD

    RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUD

  31. ed says:

Christ, eight years ago. Remember it so well. I’m getting old..

  32. Red The Fred says:

Would Ruud have been any better without the knee injury? He may have lost a step of pace after the op, as most players do with knee operations. Thats a scary thought

  33. The One says:

Great finisher extraordinaire…maybe he can give Welbz a 2nd training session, this time on composure and finishing…it’ll bring welbz on immensely and turn him into a great striker…:)

  34. Marq says:

I say stick Rvn personally to Welbeck for a month to teach him about how to finish a chance. One of the best finisher in the game, never about blasting the ball past the keep Shearer style. Top player

  35. The One says:

If it’s true that RVP had turned down 300k a week from City to sign for us, then he’s half a legend in my eyes…:)

  36. Sushi says:

Anyone see this story about united buying back their training kit sponsorship from DHL? So what we got 40m£ lying Round but not for a proper midfield ?
I hope we don’t replace it with some shit
Looking symbol I liked the DHL. Other hand they must be confident of landing an even bigger deal, I wonder though what kinda message that sends Sponsers?

  37. dazbomber says:

Marq -You can not teach any one how to finish, you have got or you have not. Thats why Ronaldo cost £80 mill and Falcao will cost the same next summer

  38. chicha chicha says:

How about getting some of Ruud’s blood and transfuse into Chicha and Welbz? Imagine having 4 strikers hitting more than 30 goals each this season. WOWIEWOW…

  39. kk says:

Ruuuuuddddd! Still warms my heart. His first touch was sublime. Just to show you how lethal he was in Europe, he always played the lone striker role and he delivered to be among the top goal scorers. He was catching up to Raul’s tally at one time. I was content when we signed him and he got the injury coz I knew what will be coming and boy did he score them.
The way he celebrated the Arsenal penalty on that time we ended their unbeaten run was just funny.
    Ruuuuuuudddd.
@Sushi, I read about the training kit. I read that we may get a more lucrative deal for our training kits

  40. dazbomber says:

Sushi-There is talk of the next shirt deal will be get this one £Billion over 12 years.

  41. LucasUTD says:

Best finisher I’ve seen in the game. Fullstop.

  42. Gandalf says:

wow, if it is true that RVP turned down 300K from city – then tremendous respects to him. Well done RVP.

On the other hand, what on earth are city thinking – they already have aguero, dzeko, tevez and bibotelli. May be they wanted to rid of either troll or bib!

  43. Singh7 says:

I remember back in 2000 ,channel 5 used to have dutch football highlights on and my older brother (dipper) always ranting and raving at how good rvn was .We used to joke that with Ruud and Van in your name youve gotta be class..

  44. Proverb says:

    Rude just rude :D
Chicha chicha what about we transfer yours and see how he struggle to make the slightest of impacts :D but great idea though, you have a crazy mind ;D

  45. Marq says:

    Dazbomber

I quite disagree about learning how to finish. You quoted Ronaldo, he didnt have the end product until a few years in. Falcao too, wasn’t banging in goals all his life until recently. There are natural finishers and there are trained finishers. Solskjaer & Ruud are natural finishers, Ronaldo & Shearer are trained finishers.

  46. Gandalf says:

goodness me, apparently kagawa is ruled out for 4 weeks with knee problem similar to what ashley young this season. When is the injury curse ever going to be lifted for united?!!! so frustrating.

  47. Costas says:

If it’s similar to Young’s injury, then Kagawa will be out for 2 months…

Personally speaking, I don’t think it will make much difference. We still have plenty of options in that department.

  48. Proverb says:

It can’t be similar to youngs, ash barely walked after that, but kags could still play with it and even managed to create two assists init!!!

  49. Gandalf says:

@costas – lol. yes we are well stocked in that department, but I was looking forward to shinji bedding in well before christmas. This may be good thing for fletcher, anderson and cleverly to get more game time. And diamond may be abandoned for a bit.

anyone doing any score predictions for the weekend? I’m going for a 2-1 win for united.

  50. Redbilly says:

    3-2. United

  51. wayne says:

I fancy Utd a lot don’t rate rent boys defense very highly Luiz is a muppet gets caught out of position all the time, dives in and gives away bad free kicks, also don’t rate Torres, rent boys don’t really have many options up front putting all the eggs so to speak in Torres is a mistake
Just don’t think the team is all that, sure they beat Spurs and Gunners away but don’t rate Le Arse very highly and that old Arse centre half playing for Spurs(sorry gone completely blank) was atrocious last week pretty well handed the rent boys game on a plate

  52. wayne says:

    Gallas he was shit

  53. Akinyemi says:

A̶̲̥̅♏ very happy to see M̶̲̥̅Ɣ best player ever return to Old Trafford. I wish RVP delivered much more like him.. Ruud Van Goal….
    Robin Van Goal..

  54. Nesh says:

Ruuuuuuud that Fulham goal…..loved him to bits and was really happy for him when doing well at Madrid.he had the armband before it was permanently given to Gary.

  55. murt73 says:

Fav utd striker without a doubt, rarely scored outside 18 yrd box but in around 6 he was lethal and posessed that rare ability to be just where he needed to be to smash it home

  56. Zulu-Utd-Malta says:

I haven’t got the voice to shout loud enough to thank this magnificent player when he was with us !
He made an exquisit job scoring goals from every corner of our attack but I cannot forget that goal vs Fulham.
Cheers Ruud and you’r always welcome !
