Ryan Giggs breaks Champions League record

Ryan Giggs was brought on as a 2nd half sub for Marouane Fellaini in tonight’s Champions League game between Manchester United and Shakhtar Donetsk.

As this is his 145th appearance in this competition, he has now broken the record for the number of appearance held by any player. He previously shared the record with Raul but since moving to the Qatari side Al Sadd Sports Club, he no longer plays in the Champions League.

Paolo Maldini (140) has the 3rd highest number of appearances, Xavi (139) is 4th, Clarence Seedorf is 5th (131) and Paul Scholes (130) is 6th.

It is a shame we could not hold for a victory!

  2. BigL says:

absolutely chuffed for him and may he add to that total but today wasnt the for it as we could have done with a win to get a bit of confidence back look at what its done for arsenal so far this season should have brought on kagawa or chico on and pushed them further back instead of inviting them on to us also no excuse but the ref was the worst i have seen for years.

I am happy for Giggs but he was ineffective. He could have broken that record once we secured our ticket to a top seed in the next round. Conversely, he did not give the ball to Shaktar as much a Fellaini was doing.

  9. UTD1999 says:

I hope he makes it to 150 this season.

Giggs maybe 40 next month but he’s still better than most of the current squad.
