Scholes: Leeds And Liverpool Are Biggest Rivals

With there be plenty of fuss concerning United’s local rivals, City, Paul Scholes believes our real hated rivals are Liverpool and Leeds.

“City probably aren’t the closest of rivals, but in terms of geography, if you like they are close rivals and it’s a game you want to win,” Scholes said. “But Leeds away was just pure hatred towards us, but we always did well when we went there and we thrived on it. Liverpool is the same. We have done quite well there, although we have lost a couple of times, which is no surprise because it’s a hard place to go.”

Leeds fans are fucking scum, Elland road is the only ground I’ve been to where I’ve actually feared for my safety. I know several fans from other teams who will echo this as well.

They’re nothing on the scouse bastards though, thats just another level. The mention of Liverpool actually fills my body with hate. Looking at it from a non-football fan’s point of view it is probably completely unfounded and quite pathetic, but we know fucking better and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!!

Dave_Pistol. hi mate. i have the page open on my mobile or pc. i refresh it after every few mins.maybe you can say i have become a ROM addict. so many intresting articles and great fans to interact with.

  3. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

i could get a list of 40 things out of some about how torres is the best striker in the land
but the guy is as soft as a saggy tit
    on topic
    fuck leeds

  4. MUFC the Religion says:

Torres ain’t got shit on strikers like Wazza, Ronny, Eto’o or dare I say Drogba. He rarely beats a man, lost a few yards of pace, hamstring problems every season, takes about 4 shots to test the keeper and is a diving ladyboy puff.

  5. aig alex is god says:

ghtt.torres is class.only if he can stay on his feet more.guess thats too much too ask from people like torres and drogba.

  6. Raj says:

I wouldn’t mind not winning any trophies for 1 or 2 yr if we beat liverfools 6-0 at home with rooney scoring hattrick, and 7-0 away with michael owen scoring hattrick. Plus we also knock them out of carling cup, fa cup, and CL and make sure those idiots also don’t win any thing.

  7. steve says:

Dipper scum getting beaten 2-0 at Fiorientina.

    Loving it.

  8. Sketch says:

@ MUFC the Religion- I gotta disagree with you mate. Granted Torres is not as good as Rooney, Eto and Ronaldo but Drogba? Seriously? He is just a diving moaning bitch, that is immature, wasteful and plays like crap when he doesnt feel like it. Torres is a scum and i hate that fucker but he is WAY better than Drogba. He works hard, is always tracking back, doesnt dive as much as Drogba, is a cynical finisher and always gives 100%.

Anyway Who else cant help but smile victoriously as they watch Liverpool crumble against Fiorentina!!! I thought this was their year?

  9. Mezza says:

Scholesy knows his United roots as much as he knows playing midfield, nuff said.

  10. Coogie says:

Man i fucking loved the matches against Leeds. The team and fans were proper cunts! Still are :D

I hope they do make it back into the Premiership, i have to say i miss those matches.

  14. cherry says:

I honestly have to thank this site. I have learnt a lot abt united here. Stuffs like rivalry, history of the club etc. Before nowI use to like Leeds especially after their victory against Arsenal gave us the title some years ago. Also I remember supporting Liverpool against A.C Milan back then in the european cup final….well that has gone down as my biggest regret so far in the 25 years I have spent in this world.

I have to confess that I only got to understand all this rivalry stuffs here. I have also learnt not to refer to united as Man.U, I am educating United fans here now even though they find weird when I tell them at the pub that it’s offensive to call the club Man.U.

I now hate Liverpool, Leeds and Shitty morethan I hate Arsenal and Chelsea. Before now I use to hate Arsenal very badly.

  15. Ulster Red says:

never to late to learn cherry..

  16. cherry says:

@Ulster Red sure mate. Always willing to learn

  17. Wayne Rooney's hair says:

there is a real chance liverpool could bomb out in the group stage this year, Fiorentina look a threat and Lyon look scary for anyone…I cant say I would be too disappointed :)

  18. King Eric says:

Ulster Red – What is Collybore the horrible bastard saying?

I live about fifteen miles out of Leeds and was born in Yorkshire and I can safely say they are nasty bitter racist cunts. Get in to arguments with the fuckers all the time. Always calling us Munich’s and how did the “scum” get on. I miss those United v Leeds games.

  19. Its in my blood says:

    King Eric,

Hi, yes definately agree with that! Leeds scum are by FAR the most racist morons you can imagine. I could fill several pages with my experiences with them going back almost 40 years. Horrible horrible bastards! Scousers are our biggest rivals but Leeds….Scum, nothing more.

Oh how they couldn’t shut up last Christmas… OH SNAP!! By February I could hear a pin drop @ the tea and coffe making facilities!! That was a PRICELESS season!!
The summer gave them hope… so did Burnley… Then Owen & Gigsy just told them to ‘Shut the fuck up!’ hahaha

    @Cheery
    best thing is
i remember watching united when i was 5 in an fa cup final with my dad
from there i was a norman whiteside fan who got replaced by some curly headed fella from wales http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kScBIdmZfIs
    what ever happened that fella
since 1985 ive been watching manchester united with a love i share with nothing else apart from my kid
ive spent those years from 9 till now watching everything thats going on
ad inthe mean time learning everything that has gone before
    books on the club
    videos on the club
    books on players
excellent itv mini film about 11 years ago about munich
now ive mutv and the internet to learn as much as possible
and i still dont know shit
the amazing thing about a handful of football clubs in the world is that you never stop learning
the first english team to win the european cup
    the premier league
    2 doubles
    a treble
    2 time world champions
more fa cups than anyone else
no one has one the league more times that united
    they’ve been bankrupt
they lost there ground in ww2 by a miss fired air bomb
one of the greatest young teams in world football lost in tragidy
all came back strong to the team that will win tonight

  27. aig alex is god says:

    ghtt

    morning mate.

you pretty much summed up our glorious history and the continued recent success.

sometimes i too wonder feel so proud that instead of struggling and going down after Munic disaster United have come back stronger to become the most popular and famous and one of the most successful club in world football

  28. hurr says:

I wanna laugh at the Dippers fine match last night but I don’t wanna count the chickens yet lest we got battered by Wolfsburg today.

  29. aig alex is god says:

looking forward to tonight i think we will have a very difficult game.Wolfsburg will take the game to us. they are a very good side.players like Misimovic, gentner, martins,Grafite,Dzeko can be a handful.we have to defend well because grafite and dzeko have a good understanding.here’s my side.

    Foster, brown, evans, evra
    Valencia Carrick fletcher nani
    Owen Rooney

  30. aig alex is god says:

oh dear once again i have named just 10 players.of course the missing name is vidic.he has to be be careful because grafite is very quick and nippy

  31. Gibbo27 says:

I’m a Leeds fan through and through, born and bred in Leeds. I’m forever explaining to people that im not a football fan, I’m a Leeds fan, the difference being i only care about how Leeds fair. I know this is the same for many, many a Man U hardened fanatic. Like us, if Man U ever suffered the same fate, the fans would still turn out in their masses to see them play, what ever the league or amount of heart ache involved. That’s a ‘never give up’ Northern attitude that both sets of fans share. This is my take on what Paul Scholes (who in my opinion is one of the greatest midfielders to grace a pitch in any period) said. He is 100% correct! Fan wise the biggest rivalries in English football contain Leeds, Man U and that alien nation on merseyside… Meetings are always tasty and nasty for all the right reasons, even if all three we in the Northern Uni-Bond league their matches would still get a world wide audience! As much as my innate dislike for man u allows i can readily admit that i can watch fergusons free flowing football and hate it because more often than not its perfect football… And only a few teams in English history can lay a claim to being able to do that: Liverpool of the 80’s, Leeds of the 60’s & 70’s, Arsenal of late and Man U for the last twenty years… An elite club to say the least… Anyway, please wish us a speedy recovery to the prem so both our younger supporters can taste what a real footballing atmosphere is all about… MOT

  32. Its in my blood says:

No comment on the racism inherent in Leeds fans then Gibbo27?Hmmm….

  33. exiledred says:

Gibbo27 – this is sticking in my throat but nice note. To be honest I would love to be playing you lot as opposed to someone like stoke who I really don’t give a shit about. And you are our feeder club as well so we need to you to start producing some decent players again :-)

  34. Muggaz says:

Gibbo27 – decent post for a L**ds scum.. could do with out the offensive Man U shit though.

Does anyone else here enjoy the twisted irony that our greatest player of all time was purchased from Leeds?

    *grin*

  35. Gibbo27 says:

ExiledRed, thanks for the comment but it seems Villa have dibs on our talent at the moment :) ! Basically though that was the reason why i posted a comment on here in the first place, i got the feeling that the Man U supporters would prefer to be playing Leeds twice a year whatever the outcome rather than beating half of the teams that make up the prem at the mo… i also posted because i got the impression that a few of the younger posters on here really have no idea about how fierce the rivalry really is between the two clubs and supporters; they need to know (as do alot of younger fans from many a team) that a Leeds United v Manchester United match in any form or guise is one of the greatest atmospheres/rivalries/hate matches etc in the world of football… and a pleasure to behold to boot :) Any proper Manchester United (and Leeds) fan knows this and wants these matches back on the fixture list….

Its In My blood: As for no mention of the inherent racism of the Leeds United fans i really dont think that im in a position to comment on the individual political views of a few million people, is Big Ron a Leeds fan ;)

  36. King Eric says:

Gibbo27 – Fair play mate. I really do hope you come back up in the next couple of seasons. As I said last night I really do miss the United v Leeds rivalry.

  37. paull says:

Firstly I’d just like to point out that not all Leeds fans are racist. I remember in the 70’s when the NF used to hand out their racist filth outside the ground. I always took it because I knew that it cost them money to print but then i’d rip it up in front of them. I’ve also never sung about Munich. To celebrate the death of so many young men is just sick I.M.O. But I do love my club and always will and hopefully one day soon I’ll enjoy the old rivalry between our clubs again. MOT

  38. morganucn says:

One reason alone Man Utn are so big, we let you have Cantona! We had just won the new premier league with him. And Man UTD, went onto greater things with him. Without him, i doubt it.

  39. Billy Bremner's Barmy Army says:

Glad to know you haven’t forgotten us! As much as we hate each other,I think we agree that games between us mean more than say Fulham or Wigan. I wonder if you agree that there are only 7 sides who could take the sort of away following we do to 3rd Div games:both Mancs, both Scousers, the Geordies, the Mackems and ourselves;the Southerners wouldn’t manage it. We’re not all scum by the way-I’m sure not all of you are either! There are as many Galatassaray singers as Munich singers. I personally have got no time for either. As embarassed as we are at our current position, you can be 100% certain that we’ll be back!

  40. wibble says:

going back to an earlier post, leeds play in white because don revie wanted us to emulate the all conquering real madrid side of the 50’s. nowt to do with the yorkshire rose. we actually started out with a blue and white striped shirt a la huddersfield, then to blue and yellow halves before the Don took over and changed the course of our history forever. just in case anyone gave a shit!..

    MOT!

  41. cantona7 says:

@GHTT thanx a lot for that chant. I enjoyed that video :) i’ll DEFINITELY teach my kids (when i have) to sing that. Please give Emily a big kiss for me :)

  42. cantona7 says:

@GIbbo27 lol are you desperate to let the younger fans learn about our rivalry, or desperate to get back in the Prem? my only wish is, stay there hahahahahahhaha

Anyway, good response for the racism. But what about the munich? you are a Leeds after all..

  43. Theres Only One United says:

The main Reason to our Leeds Rivalry is because, probably they were out most Violent Rivals, Always teasing the Munich etc etc.

They didn’t have Rival’s so they came to United -_-

  44. Gibbo27 says:

Cantona7, i suppose that I’m desperate for Leeds to be back in the Premiership, the education of the youngsters with regard to the rivalry would then take care of itself…

My personal views with regard to the Munich tragedy are that it was just that, a tragedy, but not just for the fans of Manchester United (although i truly understand that after the families of the unfortunate 23 the Manchester United fans feel the effects of that truly sad night more than anyone else); it was also a tragedy for all true football fans, past, present and future; nobody got to see what that team would/could/should have been… (Leeds fans are lucky in that we got to see our best team mature with no incident…) As said, the worlds of true football fanatics were robbed by the harrowing events of February 6, 1958.

As for the chant, i can’t associate with it, i find it distasteful and disrespectful to say the least… and it also shows a dismissive disregard to the emotions of one of our greatest players, Jack Charlton, who’s brother nearly perished and by his own word is still gravely haunted by the events… I don’t think that the Elland Road faithful will ever stop chanting it, but if Jack were to go on the pitch and tell them to stop it… well we can all live in hope… Although please bear in mind that “always look out for Turks carrying Knives..” is in a similar vein…

  45. exiledred says:

Gibbo27 – and I must hold my hand up and confess that I was singing that turks song in response to the munich chants at Old Trafford a few years back. I’m not proud of it but sometimes you get so wound up you just want to retaliate. A few pints of Boddys beforehand didn’t help either!!

Quite a few l**ds on here today. Are you trying to say that home games against carlisle just don’t do it for you boys then? :-)

  46. better dead than red says:

interesting fact .when Man u played Barcelona you equalled the amount of European finals contested by Leeds .The best in England baring Liverpool of course

  47. NEEDTOFEELTHELOVE says:

AGREE WITH SCHOLESY ON THE WHOLE EVEN THOUGH CIDDY ARE COMING UP ON THE RAILS
