After initial reports claimed we spent £15m for Bastian Schweinsteiger, which would still be a bargain, it has been confirmed today we spent just £6.5m on the German World Cup winner.

Schweinsteiger joined Bayern Munich from Rosenheim, play in the regional fifth tier Bayernliga Sud, in 1998. As part of the deal, the club included a clause which would see them receive a percentage of his sell on price.

Rosenheim’s finance director, Sandro Sacco, has confirmed that the transfer fee was just €9m.

The transfer fee adds up to €9m. We have been credited for two years (that Schweinsteiger spent at the club). We will receive the payment in two instalments, and after deducting the advisor and legal costs, we will receive €19,000 (£13,800). We already received the first instalment in August. We are delighted about Bastian’s incredible career and also that we profit from it financially as his first club.
