During Manchester United’s game in the Champions League against Bayern Munich last year, Bastian Schweinsteiger was sent off at Old Trafford. Out of interest, he also scored, making him the last player to score at our ground in the competition.

After the game, two newspapers, The Mirror and The Sun, went with the headline ‘You Dirty Schwein’.

As a result, for the return leg, journalists from these papers were denied accreditation for the game. Bayern Munich were unimpressed with their star man being called a swine, or a pig in German.

“Bayern Munich do not accept this kind of reporting and condemn these headlines in the strongest terms,” the club said in a statement.

While the journalists don’t pick their headlines, it will be interesting to see Schweinsteiger’s reaction if he comes across The Mirror’s David Anderson this season.
