Just last summer, David Silva signed a 7-year-contract with Valencia, as a player who came from their youth system.
Silva, who was lucky to stay on the field during Spain’s Euro 2008 semi-final versus Germany, after an exchange with Lukas Podolski, has been in talks over a new contract, which have stalled. It appears as though Silva is asking for a lot more than he is being offered.
According to reports, United have faxed overa declaration of their interest in the vesatile player, who does a good job in a variety of attacking positions.
Rumour has it that Valencia are in desperate need of dosh to pay off a sizeable instalment on their massive debts next month. Also, with David Villa seeming more likely to stay, it appears as though Silva is the player they are prepared to sell.
The fact that there are rumours linking Saha to Valencia might amount to nothing, or our Mr. Glass might be used as a bargaining tool to get Silva.
Earlier this week, the players’ agent indicated that there was a good chance of the player leaving, with talks going so poorly.
“Next week there will be a solution,” he said. “We’ve given ourselves time to think things over well. We’re not close, nor far from reaching an deal, nor somewhere in between.”
United’s biggest competition is likely to come from Barcelona, with a transfer fee of £20 million likely to be enough to prise him away from his boyhood team.
Is he a player you’d be interested in us signing?

this is brilliant! i hope it’s true. silva is a young player with plenty of quality n wud b perfect for united, specialy wiv rooney out n alot of players missin for start of season
it’s better him than nothing i think
Silva is a winger, not a striker. We need an established and goal scoring centre forward full stop. So NO I don’t think Silva would be a good buy as preference to an out and out striker. If we get a great striker plus Silva as an extra then fine. Otherwise No No No!.
I like him. He’s quick, scores goals and lets the game flow. But he’s such a frustratingly one-footed player and I’d like to see him improve in that department but hey, Giggs is getting on so letting Silva, Nani, Ronaldo and Park compete for four spots doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all
ronaldo to play up front with rooney would be the answer to our striker problems
silva can play on either wing so he could go on the right
aint gonna happen..mark me on it…
oh yes wud luv it! guy is class!!! unsung hero of spains euro win!
barca are chasing Silva. barca are also chasing Berbatov. perhaps we don’t want silva but are using our approach to start a bidding war, to create a “you leave us a clear run at Berbatov, and we’ll leave you a clear run at silva” situation.
That said, silva could play on the wing and Senor Ronseal (Mahogany) could play up front through the middle to good effect.
I’d rather have Arsjavin. He’s more direct in his game and has more end product to his play. I think they would cost the same.
Silva is young, though and would be a long term replacement for Ronaldo, should he leave next summer… Maybe Fergie is allready starting to plan for a time without him?
I would love to see Silva playing on the wing so we could finally dedicate Ronaldo as a striker without worrying about the wing.
I don’t think people get that our need for a winger is nearly as great as our need for a striker. Park has become quite injury prone and Nani isn’t ready to be a starter. Giggs will most likely retire at the end of the season so a versatile winger is very much on our list
Why is this good? We don’t need another winger no matter how good he is, we need a STRIKER and we can’t bench a £20m plus player. Ronaldo last season was already having enough trouble coping with too much defenders marking him on the wings(which gave rise to the “he disappears in big games” mantra), playing him as a striker now will only make that worse. If we’re gonna buy a winger, it should be in our priorities in the 09 January transfer market, our number one priority should be a striker.
I’d welcome him. Giggs is probably in his final season, Nani isn’t a starter, not yet anyway, and Ronaldo could be gone at the end of the season which means that this time next year we could have only Nani and Park as wingers, so I’d say buy Silva now and let him learn the english game so he’s settled for next year. Besides his young and already better than Giggs and Park as well as Nani. With that said, a striker should be our number one priority, but why not get Silva as well?
rather an out and out striker myself, sounds like hot air from his agent
Liam, are you serious mate?. Nani not ready to be a starter?. The mind boggles!. I challenge you to watch again and again United’s end of season review, and watch Nani, and you will see just how much he affected so many of the games, and goals with his deadly balls into the box. I watched one day with a mate who isn’t a United fan at all, but he was amazed at Nani. Did you watch the Euro championships Liam?. In Portugals last game before being knocked out, Nani did more in 20 minutes he came on for, than Ronaldo did the whole match. In fact, I would go as far as to say, that if Nani had played the whole game, and Portugal had a decent centre forward, Nani would have got a good number of assists in that game, and Portugal may have gone on to win it.
agree with liam . we need a minimum of 4 wingers . of our current lot – giggs is more or less past it . park hasnt convinced me in the last couple of seasons . only ronaldo and nani left . and i still have my doubts about nani performing consistantly throughout the season (he showed great skill in some games but it was coupled with wrong decision making which i’ll put down to inexperience) . now , consider our current situation- no ronaldo , no nani , a half fit park with no pre season . there – we have only giggsy to cover 2 wide positions . oh and hargo and fletch arent wide players . they look totally out of sorts on the wing (at least fletcher does) .
so , i would say our need for a winger might actually be greater than our need for a striker . we will have 4 players covering 2 striker positions – i.e. manucho and campbell included , if we sell saha . also , ronaldo can provide cover if needed .
and silva is one of the best young wingers in europe . it all fits perfectly . we should get him now before benitez tries to lure him with his spanish armada .
I would love him to come, and im sure he would prefer us to any other premiership sides.. he wants a new challenge and either wants to move to Italy or England..
Can play Attacking Midfield role, Left/Right wing.. i think he would be a top buy, if anything less than £20 million pound..
+ do we have any natural left footed winger??
I want a striker!!!
Awesome.. David Silva is a quality player and there arent much players left of his calibre on the market.. Great buy even if it doesnt solve the striker problem.. ferguson might even change formation.. not that it had success.. think 4-4-1-1 with van nistelrooy.. they have youngsters to fill the void too.. frazer campbell is decent.. and i heard rumors bout henry too.
very good player and would improve us on the left, i think? (he actually played better on the right in some of the euro games!)
wether were really interested in him or not i would have put a bid in for him. for the above reasons and also to set the price rolling at a good level so the bindippers cant even afford to show interest!!
