Smalling: It’s Great To Be A Part Of Such A Great Club

Chris Smalling is loving life at Manchester United so far, following his move from Fulham in January which saw him meet up with the players this summer.

He is currently on tour with the team and, despite giving away a penalty on his début, is having a great time.

“The tour has been a really enjoyable experience so far,” said Smalling. “It was great to meet everyone, initially at Carrington. I have spent quite a bit of time with Wes and Jonny, my fellow centre-backs. And I have also been chatting to a lot of the younger lads. It is just great to get to know everybody and be part of such a great club. I just want to do my best.”

    He’s gonna turn into a great CD for United, the fans just need to give him time and not get on his back if he makes a mistake.

  2. McQueen says:

    I wish him luck. He’s gunna have big boots to fill. Success often stems from a solid centre-back partnership. If we fail to achieve that in the coming years we will find trophies hard to come by.

  3. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Taught he did very well against celtic, cant believe how big that kid is

    even thou he gave away that peno he looks very well and has a good head on his shoulder

  4. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    hopefully himself and evans form a good partnership because i can see them playing the fa cup the carling cup and the games against liverpool and other low table teams to spread out the amount of time the rio vidic spend on the pitch

  5. SteniS says:

    Smalling and Evans playing together as central defender and Rodwell shielding them from central midfield. It’ll happen.

  6. McQueen says:

    Yeah i just hope he is good enough really. Do you think Smalling-Evans will ever be as good as Rio-Vidic? I just feel, under the Glazers, we are doomed to go steadily backwards as we replace top quality players with ones not quite up to scratch. Which, for a club that was formerly the most profitable in the world is quite frustrating!

  7. McQueen says:

    @ Ghtt – lol at the Liverpool crack i never noticed it the first time i read it

  8. willierednut says:

    GHTT – You went there didn’t you? Low level team lol.

  9. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    @steniS ha ha ha thats an elite squad for the future rather than an elite squad because of present bank balance
    1=champion
    2=close
    3=ah well at least you got something
    4=best of a bad bunch
    5=ah bless um
    6=Fail
    7=who

  10. RedScot says:

    With Rio and Nemanja if he stays ,why would he not develop and grow.
    I thought he was great on Friday/early Saturday morning he looked disgusted with himself at the grab at Joe Ledley which resulted in the Pen.
    In the back of my head and I know Sir Alex is taking stick around the blogs and net, ABU media is he not building a new backline to be admired for a new manager, because we grow and build the Manchester United way. With youth.As far as I know and what I have read, Sir Matt started this and broke the mould, Sir Alex just maintains the traditions.
    Smalling/Evan’s the new Bruce/Pallister.

    Big Shout out for Jonny and Wes.

  11. ooh ahh bring back Cantona says:

    Why is everyone so downbeat about the glazer situation? Yes its true they are rats and need exterminated but in the mean time we gotta do our best with what we have. In a few years Malcolm glazer will have died a slow and painfull death and the rest of his infestation will collapse like a flan in a cupboard and what will remain? UNITED! But for now ”get stuck in lads”

  12. willierednut says:

    No shout out for Joe Cole, i know it was you Joe, you broke my heart.

  13. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    slightly off topic but Id be more shocked if Vidic leaves than if i woke up with my balls hanging from my chin
    not big into the arsenal loving london based media trying to unsettle uniteds players

  14. McQueen says:

    @ RedScot – yeah i know, he’s looked disgusted at himself the last six times he’s done it!

  15. cantona7 says:

    @McQueen let’s not get too negative. We have Sir Alex and his great coaches at our club. They are more than capable of nurturing young players into world class players. Even Rio himself was nowhere near as good as he is now compared to when he first joined us.

    To me Evans at this rate need 2 or 3 years to surpass Rio. Rio is nowhere near the status of the best CD we ever have; Pallister, Bruce and Stam were miles ahead of him in my opinion. So if Smalling can be as good as Vidic or Rio, we will have among the best CD partnership in the future.

    The future is even more interesting than today hehehe.

  16. RedScot says:

    @McQueen, mate you are turning into a Chris Smalling stalker.
    bye the way does your daughter Haley take it up the Shitter( Goat expression) lmao

  17. Toms says:

    Well he’ll certainly get the playing time to develop this season. Lets see if he’s going to make the grade.

    What type of Center back is he? I only saw a one off fulham game last season.

  18. willierednut says:

    Bruce, Pally and Stam miles better than Rio? I have to disagree there, you can agrue they were better defenders, but miles better, no imo.

  19. cantona7 says:

    haha maybe i exggerated that “miles”.. but they were..

  20. willierednut says:

    Actually, i think Stam would the only one ahead of Rio, imo of course. All great CD though.

  21. willierednut says:

    Toms – What type of a CB is he? A blooming good one i hope.

  22. cantona7 says:

    anyway i hope Rio retires from international football. with that recurring back injury, he will have to retire in 3 years time…

  23. RedScot says:

    I just dont understand lads that start trying to destroy or pick on the players before they get a chance and show.
    Way to go to motivate. Soz I just dont get it.

  24. willierednut says:

    If he does retire in 3 years time, then i hope Smalling will be ready to take his place.

  25. cantona7 says:

    In 3 years time we will have Rio (if he retires from England team now, he’ll become like what Scholes and Giggs are now), Vidic (if he stays lol), another veteran Wesley Brown, our main cb no1 Evans, 2nd CB Smalling, Corry Evans and Reece Browns lol.

    So we may have a line up of Rafael, J Evans, Corry Evans, Fabio

    Or Rafael, Wes Brown, Reece Brown, Fabio..

    haha..

  26. RedScot says:

    @ Cantona mate yer eating to many sardines. and I smell something real fishy, in fact I smell shite.
    Off to the boozer with ma mates.

  27. willierednut says:

    Them sardines must be rotten, get a couple of ra eggs into ya.

  28. cantona7 says:

    yeah just got bored here.. 6am working alone in front of my laptop.. sorry for the shite.. haha

  29. bruce thomas says:

    @ ooh aah

    The problem is that by the time Cunt Glazer has died a slow and painful death, so might United.

    Gill’s lies I can take — but not any more of that “there’s no value in the market” shit. Let’s face it, we’re skint.

    On the other hand if Berbatov and Anderson were to start playing, that would be like two new signings. Berba looked good the other night…

    It could go either way, this season. But sooner rather than later we’re going to have to spend some money on players — or end up like the dippers.

  30. McQueen says:

    RedScot – haha i know nothing about Chris Smalling except what i’ve seen of him from last season, which might me the reason for my scepticism. Right, from now on I will wipe my mind clear of his errors, I am an open book waiting to be wowed by this young prodigy! I mean… 10 million for a 19yr old CB… he’s gotta be good right?

    As far as being negative is concerned, I don’t class myself as a negative fan at all. In fact I am very optimistic about prising our trophy from the greasy fingers of those undeserving rent boys!

    With Fergie working his magic we will always be up there challenging at the top, no matter how much we have to spend on players. It is when he leaves… well, I don’t even want to think about that!

  31. willierednut says:

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/433789413?-11193

    Looks like no more signings, a bit disapponited about this, but not surprised.

  32. Costas says:

    Not shocked either. So no move for Ozil if he is sold then..

    Best part about that article was Nani’s return

  33. denton davey says:

    About the story in The Telegraph for which Willierednut provided the link @ 23;53 –

    Maybe.

    But, maybe not.

    For sure, SAF is not going to say anything to the press about any deal that is being worked on, but not yet finalized.

    IF he can sign a player who would represent a major improvement on what he has in the squad then he would do that; but if he’s offered guys who are basically no improvement on the existing squad then he won’t. I know, that’s obvious but it’s also what he’s been saying for the past fifteen months since he sold CR7.

  34. united.george says:

    looks like Man City is now after Drogba according to his agent. what happened with balotelli?

  35. Dr.hannibal says:

    club should bring king cantona and should be given role of zizuo like the virus madrid..

  36. dazjoe says:

    Smalling has a lot to learn, but he’s at the best club in the world to do just that, as are Evans, Rafael, and Fabio. With the right coaching, and an amount of luck, those 4 could be our back 4 for the next decade, possibly with Cathcart as well, though others would know more about him than me. The best thing about buying all this youth is it’s gonna keep Sir Alex from retiring, he’ll look at players like those, plus Pogba, Morrison, Macheda, Obertan, Wellbeck, even Nani and Rooney and Anderson and think “Fuck leaving, these kids are gonna dominate!” (well, hopefully!)

  37. Emmanu Daktari. says:

    So SAF sold CR7 wthout value,but he wont buy!,wtf,.i can’t stand Ozil going 2 another club coz we will rue that missed chance!

  38. Ash says:

    Dissapointed that sir alex wont sign anyone but as he said if you dont give chance to the youngsters it would be unfair to them.pEOPLE WHO THINK we are not signing because we dont have money are wrong.I think alex himself doesnt want any player.If united seriously had no money they wouldnt have spend 20 odd million on such a young players(chicho and smalling).But what i disagree with fergie is when he says there is no value in markeT.i THINK SOMEONE SHould say to him that this is 2010 and not 2000.We got 8 million for tosic who never played for us and we also got 6 millions for foster so fergie should move on with time and accept that value has increased.But i am eagerly waiting tom see these youngsters playing.even 2 players become a star from this young lot we can say we have been succesful.I think if these youngsters fail which i dont think then alex would spend money next season.
    BELIEVE

  39. Ash says:

    Sry for some errors in my above written post.Cheers

  40. Abhishek says:

    he is a decent player, but thats it. saf will have to do some magic to mould him into a world class defender. i just dont see it happening. 10 mil is a big gamble.

  41. wiuru says:

    I cant 2nd guess SAF but we have not suffered under his Tenure , I feel we should see how it evolves
    The one thing i do know is the Prem has improved so we can not expect to walk everything as long as we are making our mark in europe then That has to be the bench mark !!

    Transfers if Fergie wanted them then he would of gone out of his way to get them .

  42. Jeet says:

    I am hearing rumours linking us to Ninis getting stronger. I checked him out in youtube – seems to have decent technique and an eye for a good pass. Can use both feet. But doesnt seem to have a strong finish – definitely not the type who will get you “20 goals from midfield”, to use the done to death cliche.

    Now I know youtube is hardly reliable, it could make Sol Campbell look pacy, so have any of you guys tracked him for a season or two? Curious to know…

    I feel it in my bones that SAF is gonna make one more signing….I just hope that it doesn’t mean one fo the current squad leaving…would be absolutely gutted if Vida or Evra left…

  43. aig alex is god says:

    I saw Smalling play on Saturday and he showed signs of promise and at the same time showed he still has some way to go. I loved the way he tried to bring the ball out of defence in the first half a few times just like rio did not long back.. Also his height means he will be a presence in the opposition box during the set pieces. However he did show his problematic side that we saw at Fulham last season. His positioning was poor on quite a few occasions like when he gave the penalty away.He needs to work on it and training and playing alongside rio and Vidic will help him in that area. Still 20 though so he has time on his side

    Also if we can keep hold of Vidic i was wondering whether we should loan Smalling out to a premier League side like Blackpool where he will get more games. Playing for the the youth and reserve team is just not in the same class as playing in the Premier League. Johnny Evans benefited so much from his time at Sunderland. Am sure Smalling will benefit too.

  44. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Right who the fuck is this Ozil that people are pissed about

    the guy who noone knew 2 months ago and now he’s Geogre best JNR

    do you know who also had a flawless world cup -japans Honda- should i be pissed we wont sign him

    Ozil to united , Super we need him Who Needs Nani Valencia Park of the future thats Oberton Etc

  45. arijc says:

    If Sir Alex really means that, I would have to respectfully differ with his opinion. This squad has potential but its not equipped to challenge on multiple fronts next season. Also, if no one steps up to take up Scholes mantle, it means we would have to spend on a new gk and a top quality midfielder in the next transfer window. Finding value then would be something to look forward to.

  46. arijc says:

    @ GHTT
    Just because you weren’t aware of Ozil doesn’t mean no one was. United scouts have been checking his performances for a while now.

  47. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    Im glad to here that Sir Alex won’t be signing anyone else as I also believe we don’t need anyone else. Of course the anti-glazerites will say thats because we have no money but Im more inclined to see that we have a full squad already. How many more strikers do we need? How many more midfielders or defenders are needed? Our squads include:
    VDS, G.Nevile, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Scholes, Valencia, Nani, Rooney, Owen
    Kuzchak, Rafael, Brown, Evans, O’shea, Carrick, Gibson, Giggs, Park, Berbatov, Hernandez

    And I have missed a mass of players that could have made the teams above. Who exactly are we lacking. Our “second team” is stronger than all but one premier league teams. To buy a player just so fans have bragging rights with opposing fans isn’t the way forward for United. The inclusions of >Smalling and Hernandez are excellent investments. They wont play many games this season and will be bled into the system, It assumed that this season will possibly be the last for the Vidic, Ferdinand partnership and Smalling has a year to make at the top, if it fails then Fergie will buy next year. Had he bought an immediate replacement and that had failed then we would have been stuffed and lacking options. The same with Hernandez coming in, this is Owens last year on his contract and i cant see it getting renewed (he is a rental) then Macheda and Hernandez are fighting for his place for next year. Had we brought in yet another striker then Hernandez and Macheda wouldnt be given that oppertunity and had the new striker not gelled then we would have been stuffed as more likely than not Macheda and Hernandez would have gone out on loan.
    Anyone whos not renewing their season ticket, get in touch, I’ll have it.

  48. aig alex is god says:

    One thing about Ozil United had courted him when he was a teenager and before he signed for Bremen but he didnt want to move back then and wanted o do well in germany first. Also Uniteds interest in him didnt start after the World cup this year but after the U-21 world cup last year.

  49. Zelh says:

    German newspapers are saying that ferguson wants so sign Özil for 10 mio euro.
    It’s his last year at Bremen and he don’t want to sign a new contract.

  50. Costas says:

    If Fergie is comfortable with the squad then that means that he has found ways to replace Rooney when he gets injured, maintain a healthy back 4 and make sure that our midfield isn’t overrun when Fletch is missing. Because we know these 3 questions will be asked of our squad again next season.

  51. Costas says:

    @Zelh

    They can talk about Ozil, Ninis, or whoever, but if Fergie says that he is ok with his squad, i don’t think he is bluffing this time.

  52. aig alex is god says:

    Can someone please confirm whether Liverpool have signed Joe cole and not Leo Messi. Some of the comments coming from Liverpool players and Fans are unbelievable. Gerrard says Cole is in the same league as Messi and Ronaldo. Oh dear!!. Not long before the ‘this is our year’ bandwagon starts again

  53. Costas says:

    Joe Cole > Ryan Giggs at his prime….

    I thought the bitters were deluded.

  54. Zelh says:

    Stupid dippers.
    they don’t even have a leftback.

  55. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Good bit of business by liverpool if you ask me, player of his young age wanted by the champions of england at a wage that is in no way the same as Wayne Rooney after he lite up the world cup. . . . . . Wait What????

  56. yooney says:

    Ironically Joe ‘he’s like Kenny Daglish according to Arry Redknapp’ Cole will definately useful with his prem medal last season to somehow motivates Stevie Me and Co for coming season. Then don’t be surprised ‘this is our year’ coming out from each an everyone of them in few weeks time.

  57. Muggaz says:

    Joe Cole has gone down massively in my estimations… he isn’t going to get to play in his favoured position at ‘pool (unless Stevie Me leaves) and he will be fighting it out for Europa cup honours… clearly not a footballing decision… fair play to him though, no other club would be stupid enough to offer £90k a week for 4 years for an injury prone 29 year old. They deserve each other.

  58. bruce thomas says:

    Costas says:
    If Fergie is comfortable with the squad then that means that he has found ways to replace Rooney when he gets injured, maintain a healthy back 4 and make sure that our midfield isn’t overrun when Fletch is missing. Because we know these 3 questions will be asked of our squad again next season.

    Sorry, COSTAS MATE, it doesn’t meant that — it means the Cunt Glazers have left us with no money to strengthen.

  59. King Eric says:

    aig – hello mate. Hope you are well. H aha. Ina Rush and Mcateer last night were saying they could win the league. They also said “this huge signing shows the world we are in business”. They really are fucking deluded.

    Whats with the gloom lads. Well excited about next season. Lets watch the older ones lead our kids to Premier league glory. Well capable of it. I also reckon Berbatov will play a big part this time round.

  60. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

    Hi mate. I am good. Hope you are too

    Yeah. Both Liverppol and Chelsea fans feel they have their perfect signings in Cole and benayoun. Some of the optimism from the Liverpool fans is seriously laughable. They have way too may average players in their squad. Need atleast 3-4 more quality players. Also what Liverpool fans are forgetting is Torres hasnt committed yet and mascherano isnt even bothered to respond to his manager’s calls. I am sure they will improve under Hodgson.Maybe get their lost CL place back but cant see them threatening United or Chelsea. Will be a two way fight for the title again

    As far as our squad goes i think a signing or two would be very good. I believe this squad is good enough to win the league but may come up short in Europe. For that we will need a player or two more. Also there are certain players in the squad like Rooney, Vidic, Fletcher who if God forbid get injured could cost us deary especially with the Hargo news.

  61. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    if liverpool dont win the lague with there new signing that’ll turn there season around United have got to be favourites to win the league

    anderson will be back

    hargreaves isnt dead

    Diouf is on the brink of a step up

    gibson cleverley kiko evans da silvas will be knockin at the door

    and then the world class established players are going to bruce robson and mcclair this new class

  62. Costas says:

    @bruce thomas

    Not counting that out either mate. It’s crossed my mind.

  63. ZVal says:

    ”not big into the arsenal loving london based media trying to unsettle uniteds players”

    errm…arsenal loving media?? On the contrary mate, the media down here are definitely not arsenal lovers..they bumsuck chelsea, and they obviously favour man united to arsenal….i think this is the same throughout all aspects of the media..even sky have taken a huge liking in using goals scored against arsenal in their adverts..

    Who has the worst kit for this coming season? Is it liverpool, with their ridiculous standard chartered sponsor, or chelsea, who have decided to make it red. Nope, its neither of those..
    http://evertondirect.evertonfc.com/stores/everton/products/kit_selector.aspx?pid=72206

    i mean i could see having celebrations in it, but when they are losing 3-0, they will just look like complete clowns..although i have a feeling everton will do well next season and maybe even overtake thier neighbors

  64. bruce thomas says:

    @ costas

    Thanks mate, nothing personal against any of you guys with my anti-Glazer rants. But look at it. 14 million in sales; 19 million spent, this year. You’ve got to strengthen from in front, not from behind. Another summer seson like the last two and we’ll have lost all the momentum we spent 20 years building up.

  65. willierednut says:

    King Eric – I don’t think some fans are being negative this time mate, it’s just being realistic, that if your rivals are strengthening there squads and we don’t, then maybe we won’t do as well as we have in previous seasons. SAF has always said that you can’t let a team/squad grow old together, it’d be interesting to hear his thoughts on that issue now, because thats his words, not mine or anyone elses.

  66. ZVal says:

    well, chelscum have included red, not made it red but its bad enough anyway.

  67. cantona7 says:

    I can also feel the negativity here..

    Maybe because a lot of our fans hoped we would sign Joe Cole, but we didnt, and we get frustrated. Joe Cole is a very good player, but if SAF doesnt want him, then we dont need him. Liverpool got him, just let them be. It’s a desperate move to me, both from Joe Cole’s side and from Liverpool’s side. But Joe Cole joining Liverpool reminds me of a certain Harry Kewell.

    All i can say is, IN FERGIE WE TRUST.

  68. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    @bruce thomas

    Why does it matter how much is in sales and how much is in purchases. If the squad is improved on the 12 month period and we still have money in the bank (arguable whether we do or not) then whats the problem. Just because money is there (or isn’t) why do you have to spend it.
    What would be your solution – I mean to convince you if we have money or not for transfers, who would we sign and ultimately where would he fit in to the system.

    Personally our squad is fantastic, we don’t need to buy in big names. Every player from a forreign team looks better than our – the old grass is greener routine – but i bet Barca fans are saying I wish we could have so and so as a replacement for so and so. We missed the league because of a lack lustre draw against Backburn despite all our injury problems. We lost out on the champions league by away goals against finallists Bayern – do you honestly think we wouldn’t have turned over Inter in the final, i think it would have been a drubbing. The so called fringe players that everyone wants to replace with Fernando Diego and Giuseppi Pencildicci are themselves big names. Gibson is fantastic and also realises that he will sit from time to time without complaining, a kaka won’t, a joe cole won’t ………. John O’shea, I mean how do you replace him, the ultimate substitute and fill in. RB, LB, CB, DM …….
    We are fine and if its decided we don’t need anyone, not just now but in the next few years then I hope the Glazers do use the money to cut down the debt. I’d prefer sensible money men at the top rather than being floated again – we didn’t get the players we wanted then either (Batistuta).

  69. aig alex is god says:

    @goat

    dont know whether you were joking but no way we would have turned over inter.they are a top side. I stand by what i said a month back.real,barca and inter are stronger than us and will be favourites if drawn against us.dosent mean we cant beat them though because we can

  70. cantona7 says:

    @GoatinaUnitedShirt a big clap for you. That is exactly what i want to say, but i dont know how to put it in nice words.
    therefore:

    IN FERGIE WE TRUST

  71. willierednut says:

    Give it rest ffs, most fans trust SAF and the ones that don’t, can go FTS. Saying that, i’m not buying there’s no value in the transfer market argument, there’s good deals out there, if we’re eager enough.

  72. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    @aig alex is god.
    Maybe you can tell me why you think Inter are so good and what has changed with the last time we played them. I cant remember us doing too badly

  73. aig alex is god says:

    @goat

    since then.

    Inter signed sneijder,etoo,milito,lucio,pandev.all world class players

    united lost ronaldo.

    Inter won the treble

    the only comforting thing for me is that fat wanker being im charge of them. Not sure he can repeat what mourinho did

  74. ooh ahh bring back Cantona says:

    Basically fergie saying that theres no value is cos he cant come out and say the Glazers are raping united

  75. cantona7 says:

    yup we would. everybody was talking about another MU-Barca or MU-Chelsea or Barca-Chelsea final before the quarter-final. Inter was a surprise finalist.

  76. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Arsenal have started it lets hope all clubs follow suit

    vuvuzelas banned at the emirates

  77. Christoff says:

    I think Hernandez will be a great signing – not seen enough of Smalling to judge.

    If we have an injury-free back 4 I think we will right up there. That was our downfall last year in my opinion.

    We will now have a confident Nani who is chomping at the bit after the World Cup, a more experienced player in Valencia (who is excellent) and Fletcherinho (better than Gerrard/Lamps IMO).

    Rooney will out to prove himself again and this is last chance for Owen/Berba – I honestly think Berba will shine this season!

    COME ON UNITED – can’t wait for the new season!

  78. Linvoy says:

    The biggest problem here is the Media… they link the club to every player… and then when it doesn’t materalise then all of sudden they spin the next story which is that we lost out to “another” club which 99% of the time is totally untrue as we were probably never interested to begin with!! This is further impacted by the fans of the other club who did get the player… lauding it over us!!

    I believe in SAF to build a squad that can compete in all compeitiions… we don’t always have to spend big… but i guess there is a little nervousness from even those totally trusting fans when you take into consideration the financial situation we find ourselves in… do we have a transfer kitty or not? if we haven’t then is it masked by the no value in the market arguement or is it just that SAF thinks he doesn’t need anyone else.

    Im not sure. But i don’t blame them for either apporach as we already have the Media and ABU’s crawling over every move we make. Conceding that our finances are crippling us completely… is a weakness we don’t need to expose explicitly…because i think we can still overcome them and be successful in the long run.

    Personally i think SAF gets the best out of what he has… and thats his real strength…. we sometimes look back over a season and think that we’ve over achieved… but SAF never uses excuses…. 2 Midfielders in our back 4…. doesn’t matter… we still expect to win… cos we’re UTD and we’ll go above and beyond. So my point is if we start with the same squad then so be it… i still think they will achieve because its ingrained in them… and thats priceless. Look at Madrid last season. The money City are spending means they need to win the league to justify it! They wont! The core of our team is there… and maybe next year if there are no changes to the aging players then i will be bit more worried… but i half hope the youngsters turn into those players… and other clubs will be looking at them thinking we want them!

    My biggest frustration is back in 08 when we won Europe… we had what i thought was a squad that could dominate Europe for next few years…. but within a couple of seasons… its not looking as likey now… but hey thats football and the beauty of it. Nothing is ever guarenteed and you need to earn it. Things change and you adapt… and there’s no-one better than the legend we have at the helm…

  79. willierednut says:

    If SAF thinks the squad is good enough, then why did we try to sign David Villa?

  80. bigphil2003 says:

    If we’d played Inter in March we would have humped them – not at the end of May though.

  81. King Eric says:

    Spot on bigphil.

    Even skysports were doing a feature on United’s squad last night saying how we could field 2 great sides. One with an average age of 31 the other just 20 years old. Fergie is rebuilding AGAIN right under our noses and some people just can’t see it. I actually think there will be one more brought in yet.

    Hmm conspiracy theory. Took the kids from the school I work at to the tour of OT again yesterday. The kids went into megastore so I followed. No Vidic shirts at all?

  82. willierednut says:

    Great idea, sell Vidic, bring no one in, we’re sorted.

  83. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Breaking news – United are interested in bringing Martin Jol to the club

    Breaking news-Martin Jol tells ajax he wants to go to Fulham

  85. bruce thomas says:

    @ goat

    Gibson is fantastic? Have you forgotten your medication again? Or does your keyboard not have the facility to key in “adequate”? :)

  86. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Up To Date Breaking news – United cannot afford to bring in a replacment for Mickey Phelan due to the debt

  87. King Eric says:

    Learnt summat interesting yesterday. I know Scholes had a box but so have Rooney, Solskjaer and Wes Brown.

    Nice one gotta hate.

  88. willierednut says:

    GHTT – Put Jol in goal, nothing will get past him.

  89. Captain Marvel says:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3060567/Alex-Ferguson-after-Mesut-Ozil.html

    If it’s true that Ozil is available for £12m then what the hell are we waiting for? That’s a bargain by anyone’s standards! Remember how we could have had Sneijder for £12m last summer and now he’s worth £35m? The club would be incredibly dumb to let another one slip through the net.

  90. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    bruce thomas

    Can you explain why Gibson isnt fantastic
    is it due to the fact he didnt get many games last year to break into the first team and when he did he turned it on played fantastic and scored some belters, could it be that he was going to play the early stages of the fa cup except for that poxy slip up to the scum could it be that the reserves were going to play the carling cup comp tewhole way like Sir Alex always does but we got the darby game so we needed to straighten the team , Gibson is a fantastic powerful midfielder and could replace Scholes in time

  91. cantona7 says:

    If Fergie is going to sell Vidic that let it be. We’ve got Brownie the Peanut. He is better actually.

    @willie maybe becos SAF thought it was worth a try.Villa for less than 40m is a very good buy with current market in my opinion.

    I am happy enough with the squad we have now. Even if we dont win the title again this season but the youngsters make a very big step and those players with things to prove make it, then i am satisfied. There is one thing i am very confident of; if Berbatov scores more than 20 goals +10 assists this season, we will win the treble.

  92. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Willierednut

    wouldnt be a bad shout for our number 2 but only for this fuckin debt

  93. willierednut says:

    cantona7 – If Berba scores 20 goals and has 10 assists, i’ll be doing cartwheels all the way down my street lol.

  94. United says:

    time will only tell, but heres hoping!

  95. arijc says:

    If press reports are to be believed, Ozil is now available for 8-12 mil. Sounds like value. But wait, we have Gibson, who is apparently fantastic…

  96. willierednut says:

    Did Ozil not say he wantsd to play for Barca? Gibbo will do ok next season, if he gets a chance.

  97. cantona7 says:

    we have gibson and anderson.

  98. aig alex is god says:

    Brown better than vidic.oh lord!!

  99. willierednut says:

    AIG – Don’t diss big bad Wes Brown, he’ll come and get ya lol.

  100. arijc says:

    If saying that “I want to play for Utd and no other club for the rest of my life” is a criteria for signing players, we will definitely have a significantly reduced group of players from which to select. Didn’t Balotelli say that he wants to play for Milan? We would have also missed out on Ronaldo for that matter. And since when has “doing ok” been good enough to play in the team. Not trying to belittle the guy. I like him, but he has miles to go and is nowhere close to someone like Ozil.

  101. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    arijc
    that question wasnt just for Bruce so you dont need to harp in with a smark jap if you wanna tell me how gibson ist fantastic you tell me

  102. Ash says:

    @aig
    Hi mate.Yeah you are right that barcas,inters and even those cunts thats reals squad is stronger than us but if we play anyone of these three we could beat them.Inter were the deserving european champ but their squad wasnt that great compared to our when we won it with likes of ron,rooney tevez and co.Imagine if sneijder was injureed like rooney you think they could have won the europe.I say to win a tournament you need luck which united didnt have and inter did.I am not saying they didnt deserve they did but what i am saying is you cant just say that inter or any other club is stronger than us just because they sign players.

  103. bigphil2003 says:

    King Eric makes a great point about Fergie rebuilding again and people just can’t see it. There’s one thing that we all need to remember – even this time last year (and more so in previous years) – no one would have expected Fletcher to be our first choice, must play every game possible midfield player. Players like that sneak up on you, so who’s to say that Gibson or Anderson (or Obertan or Macheda etc…) can’t do the same this year or next?
    There’s no doubt in my mind that Rafael and Jonny Evans are well on the way to playing in our first XI week in week out. Even Nani and Valencia are building into players that no one saw coming.
    I remember reading a journalist last summer saying “Valencia will be a good signing for United, as long as he is only the second best winger they buy this year”. I don’t hear anyone (well, many) crying out that we need a new winger now.

    I agree that on the surface we don’t have a natural replacement for Scholes – but who’s to say we need one? In my eyes we’ve never got a “natural replacement” for Keane and we’ve done “alright” since.

  104. bigphil2003 says:

    Re: My last post – I didn’t mention Hernandez as one that could surprise people, because the only way he’ll surprise me is if he fails. The guy looks like a machine ready to be unleashed.

  105. Fze123 says:

    @arijc, first of all, it’s unfair to compare two players who play in different positions, different leagues and are not the same age. Even though Balotelli has not played at a big stage (WC finals) he has a lot of appearances for Inter and a very impressive record in Serie A, a league which is arguably better than the german league, playing in stadiums surrounded by abusive fans all the time. He is also very, very good for a 19 year old – an esablished player imo. However I do agree that a playmaker/creative midfielder is more needed than a striker atm – Ozil would be nice, but he will turn out to be another Ron – wanting to more to Barca after becoming successful here. I think we will make another signing, Fergie obviously wouldn’t tell the media who he is interested in, would he.

  106. arijc says:

    @GHTT
    As I said, I wasn’t trying to belittle Gibson. But you have to be kidding if you say Gibson has been fantastic so far in his career. He has just started his career and has a long way to go before he is even considered a regular starter, let alone a fantastic player. So he has a scored a few stunning goals. He played well in a few games at the end of last season. I’m struggling to find anything else to prove your point. Maybe I’m confused about your definition of fantastic.

  107. Ash says:

    Ozeil is fantastic but gibson is a good player and i have a feeling he is the guy to replace the great scholes.I guarentee if he starts more often then he would score 10 goals this season.
    I know many people are saying we dont have a chance of winning the champs league i think we have.Inter werent that extraordinary or great as some people say they are.If rooney can stay fit and repeat the same form of last season and berba does a milito by scoring important goals and nani and valencia does a sneijders role then we have a chance.We should have thrashed bayern in both the legs even with the injured squad so imagine a fit squad and a bit luck we could do a treble.
    BELIEVE GUYS

  108. willierednut says:

    bigphill2003 – Of course fans can see SAF is trying to build another team, but with one hand tied behind his back. We’ve always adopted the twin approach of blooding young players and spending big in the transfer market. These kids better be the real deal, or we could stagnate, which might not be a bad thing, if some of these kids make to into the first team.

  109. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    arijc

    you wrote alot there but you never gave me a reason- what gibson has done he has been fantastic- maybe a slip up here or there but look at the age of him-

  110. NotoriousRedDevil says:

    @ Linvoy “My biggest frustration is back in 08 when we won Europe… we had what i thought was a squad that could dominate Europe for next few years…. but within a couple of seasons… its not looking as likey now” – Spot on. We have imploded slightly in that department but I’m sure we’ll be back in the next 2 years.

    @ Bruce Thomas 13.32 – What a stupid comment. We could spend £7-£20 million on someone who does a lot worse than Darren Gibson.

    Gibson will make it mark my words, he’s got goals in him that lad and just needs a few more games under his belt to stake a claim. If we don’t sign another midfielder I really expect him to step up especially whilst Anderson is injured.

    We’re in a catch 22 situation, our young players do deserve the opportunity to step up but if they don’t then all the pessimistic miscreants will be out saying we should have signed Player X etc. Having said that I would like us to bring another midfielder in but if we don’t I have faith in the youth but they need playing time.

  111. arijc says:

    @Fze123
    I wasn’t trying to compare players. Just saying that its difficult to judge a player based on what he has said at some point of time. Most change their so called “dream club” very quickly. I would differ in opinion about the Italian and German leagues. I think the German league is on par with the Italian. Agree with you on the rest. The danger that he might want to move on to Barca at some point is always there. But would I be complaining if in the interim he helps us win trophies? I think not. Players will come and go, but the club will always grow stronger by winning more trophies.

  112. denton davey says:

    bigphil2003@ 14:14: “I agree that on the surface we don’t have a natural replacement for Scholes – but who’s to say we need one? In my eyes we’ve never got a “natural replacement” for Keane and we’ve done “alright” since.”

    SPOT ON. This notion that you can “replace” a legendary player with someone else of the same ilk is just crippling to sensible analysis. There was no “replacement” for Keane-o and there will be no “replacement” for the GingerNinja. But that’s not to say the first-team will be weaker – it will be different.

    Similarly, the doom-and-gloom about having someone to be WayneRooney’s “back-up” makes no sense whatsoever. WayneRooney is, quite literally, irreplaceable for UTD. If/when he gets injured, the team’s shape has to change to accommodate a different type of player – that’s where the Owen/Chicharito-and-Dimitar Berbatov partnership would be a viable alternative.

    Equally, can anyone seriously posit a better, cheaper, more-optimistic “replacement” for WayneRooney than Mame Biram Diouf or KikoTheKid ? Perhaps one of them might step up when opportunity beckons but, for sure, no team can afford to have someone like, say, David Villa (David Villa, ffs !) as a back-up.

    There’s no legislating for the replacement/retirment of legendary players – and there’s no way to have the depth to provide “cover” for your best player. The most you can expect is that there is some contingency planning so that retirements and injuries can be coped with – “coped with” is key to this point since these kind of players can’t be “replaced”.

  113. Costas says:

    @King Eric

    Hi mate. The Vidic thing is a bit weird. Is there a possibility that he wants a different number this year and that’s why his shirt hasn’t been put on sale yet?

  114. willierednut says:

    He wants a warmer climate. We’ve got an replacement for Scholesy, he’s called Anderson and he’ll be coming to a stadium near you in the near future.

  115. denton davey says:

    arjic @ 14:35: “The danger that he might want to move on to Barca at some point is always there. But would I be complaining if in the interim he helps us win trophies?”

    Don’t forget, with Ozul you would be “renting” a player whose value would only increase as he’s very young and in, say, five years he’d still be just 26 which is still before his prime.

    Ozul is a player who doesn’t seem to rely on physicality so much as cleverness so I could imagine that if he were lucky enough to have an injury-free career (and maintain an interest in the game) then he could play well into his mid-thirties

    And, although Ozul isn’t the “type” of player that I would choose to make the first priority – that would be Schweinsteiger or De Rossi even though both of them are now 26 – he would be an excellent addition to UTD’s squad and probably a first-teamer. Maybe, since he seems to be left-footed, he could be used to free Nani to revert to the right side and shift Tony Valencia to some sort of central, attacking-midfield role. There’s no question that Ozul would be a serious upgrade on, say, Gibson or Cleverley – and he’s about the same age, too.

  116. Costas says:

    The funny thing is that despite Fergie’s comments yesterday, the papers keep on making transfer stories.

  117. arijc says:

    @GHTT
    I’ll rephrase what I said about Gibson. I think he is good player with potential. I wouldn’t say he is fantastic yet. Also in my opinion, Eikrem is better. You must have seen a lot more of Eikrem. What do you think about him?

  118. Costas says:

    Stevie Me has said that he will stay at Liverpool. Probably because no one else wants him.

  119. willierednut says:

    arjic – I would say Ozil is a good player with a lot of potential, wouldn’t you agree?

  120. denton davey says:

    willierednut @ 14:51: “We’ve got an replacement for Scholesy, he’s called Anderson and he’ll be coming to a stadium near you in the near future.”

    I’d like to believe that, too. However, Anderson has to add consistency to his game. At his best, he would be a wonderful member of the almost-automatic first-team. Playing him alongside Darren Fletcherinho (football genius) has been my wish for a while – I’m hoping that as this coming season progresses, Anderson will blossom into that role – but he won’t be a “replacement” for the GingerNinja.

    From what I saw on the telly the other night, the only player who could “replace” Paul Scholes is a guy with a GPS in his boots. For sure, no one – no one ! – at the World Cup can do what he showed in just forty-five minutes in UTD’s match against Celtic.

  121. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Eikrem is a wonderful prospect , shame about his injury start but skill is excellent he just needs to learn whats the right decision but that comes with age again-

  122. willierednut says:

    Costas – He’s staying because they signed Cole, thats nice of him.

  123. arijc says:

    @ willierednut
    He’s a fantastic young player with a lot more potential on the up side… :)

  124. bigphil2003 says:

    So that’s twice now that Stevie GBH has flirted with leaving his “dream club”. Yet somehow it makes him more of a hero to dippers…

    Re: Vidic – there’s plenty of Vidic shirts on sale at manutd.com… along with some C. Evans ones…

  125. Costas says:

    @willierednut

    That’s a good reason. He has a fellow Englishman to communicate with. That way he won’t get lost and conveniently misplace his passes to Drogba’s feet.

    I am happy he is staying. Can’t wait to pay back the jerk.

  126. man united says:

    i here fergie is playing mind ganmes. he wants the ozil done with no of the big boys coming in. and i saw that geranm newspaper this moring 10 euros we will sign him for not bad. the sun said this moring bermen had to dropped the prce down to 12. but fergie is trying to get it 10 euro. but a the end he wii have to pay 12.

  127. Ash says:

    Guys i have a question for u all guys here.Which young player you think will be the star performer for us and will become a regular.
    For me i have two
    Rafael for sure.
    Hernandez the other
    But i hope all of them become a star players for us.

  128. denton davey says:

    I have been reading that Ozil (not Ozul, as I previously wrote – doh !) is Fergy’s #1 target. Could this be so ? If so, then SAF has a real ace-card to play – Dimitar Berbatov could be used to sweeten the deal. You heard it here first – but, of course, that means nothing (as in “ain’t no thing”, as they say in Ba’more on THE WIRE).

  129. theboogeyman says:

    King Eric- Hi mate. When I came to OT, there were no O’Shea shirts. Maybe they’ve just not been printed or something. Although I did come end of May, so that may have been the last stock of shirts….

  130. man united says:

    @ denton. berbatov will not be leaving otherwise fergie would not have bring him to america. but i do think theres a every good chance we will sign ozil for 10 million- 12 euros. despite fergie saying no more summer buying.

  131. bigphil2003 says:

    @man united – That doesn’t mean much mate, Veron was sold while he was in America on tour. Having said that I agree with you that he’s going nowhere, especially not as a “makeweight” in a deal for a player rated at 10-15m

  132. unitedforever says:

    I heard that SAF said that we don’t need anymore players. Well, good luck to you SAF. I’m happy that you and the Glazers see eye to eye when it comes to spending. Looking forward to a trophiless season :(

  133. King Eric says:

    Hi boogeyman – You ok mate? Yeah there were a couple of other players who weren’t there so probably means fuck all.

    Re: Gibson. How good was fucking fat frank at 21-22? Gibson WILL do the business at United hence Fergie giving him an extended contract. But then he is shite as he only scores goals!! People put too little into the fact he has learned the United way. These are the kind of players we should be developing and keeping not getting rid for some fancy dans who had a good 3 weeks in Africa.

  134. King Eric says:

    bigphil – Spot on mate again. These players do indeed “creep up” on you. I would say Gibson and Nani certainly did as did Rafa. This season it may well be Obertan and Macheda . Or Cleverley.

  135. King Eric says:

    Pople need to realise Berbatov will NOT be sold. Why the hell should he? Did you see the man the other night? Only player that can unlock tight defences.

  136. shmoo says:

    sry guys, looks like no new singings… another season of doom and gloom? http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,26691,12602_6271132,00.html

  137. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    King Eric

    Usually agree with your comments but come on how can you say gibson and Frank Lampards name in the same breath- when gibson strikes the ball it goes straight on target- never have i seen darron use Lamps pattened ” curve the ball around the keeper by kicking it off a defender” trick

    Shot on goal -goes in- how fuckin boring

  138. bigphil2003 says:

    @King eric – Agree completely mate on the three you mentioned. If last November you told people that the three of them would play a huge role in a CL quarter final they’d have laughed in your face (Can’t forget that Rafa got sent off of course, but he played a blinder before that).

    @shmoo – another season of doom and gloom? You sure you didn’t mean to go to a liverpool blog?

  139. Ash says:

    I would want fergie to give pogba some games.I know he is very young but even gigs was only 17 odd when he was given the debut and he was a regular next season.Its no point if still the likes of giigs and scholes are playing almost every game like last season.If fergie doesnt buy anyone he should make the youngsters play.They may make mistakes but they would learn from that.I think gibbo should have been given more chances ,he is already 22 and he is sill treated as a bench player.Frankly i would give gibson and anderson more playing time than scholes and carrick.

  140. Gee says:

    I dont think Gibbo will make it to be a consistent starter for us to be honest, hopefully im proven wrong tho but just cant see it. The boy Cleverly on the other hand, I can see big things for the lad, seems to be more of a consistant performer than Gibson and has an eye for goal. Anyway if we arent buying then I want too see more of the young lads getting their chance. At least then we will have some fresh faces to cheer about!!

  141. aig alex is god says:

    @ash

    hi mate. I did say we can beat them but i wont raise my hopes too high if we were drawn against real or barca

    on gibson i thought he wasnt good enough but his performances against munich and city showed he can do it with a run of games.saying that i look at him as a fletcher type combative player.ozil would be the ideal foil for wayne playing in the ‘hole’ behind him. It hasnt been ’3-4′ weeks but he has been consistently excellent for the last 2 years.him and wazza would get along like a house on fire

  142. Ash says:

    @aig
    Yeah ozil would be na great signing but i seriously doubt whether that will happen.

  143. arijc says:

    @aig
    No point repeating that he has been excellent for a while now, at least since the last Euro u 21 championships. He will still be regarded as a 3 week wonder by some. I’ve given up.

  144. aig alex is god says:

    @ash & arjic

    yeah i too feel its unlikely.just hoping against hope.just fear we are letting a world class player in the making who is available for almost nothing slip by

  145. willierednut says:

    Never mind Ozil, my dream was getting Modric, but thats not gonna happen.

  146. aig alex is god says:

    @willie

    ozils better and younger than modric.

  147. willierednut says:

    He’s younger, i disagree he’s better.

  148. Ash says:

    @aig
    You know thats what is frustrating .If wender were asking 30 odd millions then it wouldnt have been frustrating as we all know we wont bid that much amount but 12 odd million is a bargain which i feel fergie should not miss out.Same goes for khedira he is also available for cheap.

  149. aig alex is god says:

    The comparisions cant be made unless they play in the same league.ozil has much more up his sleeve apart from picking out inch perfect passes. Quicker than modric imo and has a better shot from distance.

    Plus modric is in his peak.ozil is 2-3 yearr from it

  150. willierednut says:

    Do we know that Werder are looking only 12 million? I’ve only read it in the papers.

  151. aig alex is god says:

    @ash

    yeah.khediras available for 20million euros.not needed though but another example that there is value in the market

  152. willierednut says:

    AIG – I don’t think he’s reached his peak yet, is he not only 24/25? The main advantage Modric has over Ozil is he has premiership experience, the other points you made are debatable.

  153. aig alex is god says:

    @willie

    modric 26 in 2 months. Ozil is available for 10 million.spurs will ask for 25 million atleast. With time he will gain more experience. He has time on his side though.

    Ozils contract expires in 2011 and he dosent want to renew it so werder cant ask for 30 million

  154. Ash says:

    @aig
    Yeah khedira is not needed but i wont mind if we sell carrick off and buy kedhira or even modric but i doubt about modric but i would love to see khedira and ozil both playing together for us.And you know it wont be too expensive also in bringing the german duo.I seriously fear if any one of them goes to chelsea then chelsea would be back on track .I just hope either they join us or they compete in other league.

  155. aig alex is god says:

    Franck ribery has been charged for soliciting an underage prostitute.hahahahaha.

  156. willierednut says:

    At least with Modric, he’d probably finish his career with us. Ozil would be another Ronaldo, wanting to leave after a few years.

  157. Costas says:

    Does anyone know which prison Ribery will go too? Want to make sure he has some soap with him. ;)

  158. aig alex is god says:

    Why? Ozil has never said he wants to play for barca.all those are media made stories.also if we get him for 10 million,get 4-5 top seasons like ronnie and sell him for 50odd million i wont complain too much

  159. willierednut says:

    Sing Sing.

  160. willierednut says:

    50 million? The glazers wouldn’t mind you mean.

  161. Ash says:

    @willie
    I agree with aig i wont mind if we win trophies with him for 4-5 season and then sell him for big money.We are making a squad for future and ozil would fit the bill nicely.As far as modric goes he would be a replacement for carrick and dont forgot spurs refuse to sell him so we cant do anything.I seriously hope we buy ozil just because he is avilable for a less amount of money.

  162. aig alex is god says:

    @willie

    yeah.he will have a good resale value too

  163. willierednut says:

    Thats where we’re at now, buying young players, so we can sell them on for a huge profit.

  164. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    If united sign someone ill write a chant for that player teach it to my daughter and upload it on to youtube

    if united sign noone I could give a fuck

    we have the new bricks we have some of the best bricklayers in the business so its time to build a team

  165. aig alex is god says:

    @willie

    sad but true.however if the glazers use this money to pay the debt i dont mind it

  166. Ash says:

    @willi
    So you think it was a mistake by us by signing ronaldo. We signed ronaldo for 12 million and he became a superstar here by making us win ample trophies and giving some great moment.So if ozil also does that whats the problem.With ozil also our squad will be building only.He wont block any of the youngsters development.Frankly i wont mind if we sign him and who knows he may finish his career with us(but i doubt that).

  167. Costas says:

    I don’t think anything will ever wipe out that debt.

  168. Peter says:

    Joe Cole was signed to hold hands with Torres at liverpools medical.

  169. aig alex is god says:

    @costas

    yeah.but atleast efforts can be made to reduce it step by step

  170. Costas says:

    @AIG

    I know that’s the idea, but I don’t see it happening. My problem is that profits that should have been reinvested into the club and the team go out for that cause.

  171. willierednut says:

    Ash – We never used to buy players, to then sell them on, but thats our reality now. Ronaldo was a different case, the Glazers didn’t own us then, so we didn’t need the money.

  174. Costas says:

    My condolences to Gibbo.

    @AIG

    I know mate. It’s just hard to stomach. Plus it’s not guaranteed that United will always be succesful on the pitch.

  175. willierednut says:

    The Balotelli rumour is shite, according to Lou Macarri, who’s with the team in America.

  176. King Eric says:

    Sick of fucking hearing about this “bidding war” for Balotelli. As if. 30 fucking million for a cunt who has done NOWT!

    Anyone hear Mick ysb Quinn tonight? Cunt. Reckons United will finish about 4th as Citeh will piss it and finish “easily” above us. His reasoning? Well Citeh can just “pluck any world class foreigner whereas Fergie is skint and the kids ain’t good enough” Are these fuckers actually paid? Him and rentboy Cundy were talking like Fergie is gonna play 11 kids and not 2 or 3 along with proper old heads like Ryan and Scholes and WINNERS like Fletcher, Wayne, Nani, Valencia, Berba, Carrick etc. Even that fat cunt Cundy said “Citeh will be the biggest threat to Chelsea’s crown” Sorry fatboy, Chelsea’s crown? Its fucking ours son and you know it. They only won it by default. What a pair of wankers. To be fair though Cundy did say “you NEVER write of Fergie and United”. Quinn reckons we punched above our weight last season? Fuck me, you could not make it up. Bar the injuries we would have won the league ya fat bastard.

    Makes my blood boil and sadly there will be alot of this abu shite. What the fuck do Quinn and the like know about United, its youth and youth system? Fuck all.

  177. aig alex is god says:

    @Costas

    i know mate. As long as Fergie is there i am not too worried but after that it may go downhill.

    Also read papasthopolous has joined AC Milan. Good deal for the young lad

  178. RedevilzAdvocate says:

    Lol relax, you’ll burst a blood vessel or two listening to that tripe.
    On another note, dont know if this has been said already but Huntelaar spotted at Manchester Airport, I wonder….http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2010/07/20/2034432/breaking-news-ac-milan-striker-klaas-jan-huntelaar-arrives

  180. King Eric says:

    Hunterlaar? I sincerely hope not.

  181. aig alex is god says:

    Huntelaar to United or City ??. cant see that happening. We have got plenty of strikers and shitty have too although by their recent transfer strategy i wont be surprised if they are interested in him

  182. Moscow is my heaven says:

    Huntelaar is fucking shit.

  183. willierednut says:

    King Eric – I heard it mate, same old shite from Quinn, take no notice. A United fan phoned in and had a go at Gibson as well and some of the other kids.

  184. Gee says:

    @ King Eric

    You really need to stop listening to that fucking shit mate, it’s gunna put you in an early grave mate!! Let’s be honest here, outside of England who has heard of fucking CUNTdy and Quinn, even the BBC got Adebeyor to comment on world cup games and no fucker could understand him!! (no offence intended to anyone) that’s how valued their opinion is LOL.

    As for huntelaar, I doubt it’s us buying him, it’s probs Bolton lol but it would be just like SAF to get him on the cheap turn him into a goal machine win us a shitload of trophies and sell him back to the virus for £100 mill lol!!

  185. Giles Oakley says:

    I’m a big fan of Gibson and hope he gets more 1st team opportunities. It’s usually a mistake to see young players coming through the ranks as replacements for big names, whether it’s a Keane, a Scholes or a Giggsy, they’re all different, and make their own way. What I like about Gibson is his physical power in the middle, which we don’t have in abundance, especially without Hargreaves. His shooting at distance is phenomenal, not just for power but for technical quality, as shown by his body-shape. There’s no-one else in the team consistently whistling them in from 30 yards like him, especially now Rooney’s playing more up front. Where Gibson needs to improve is in his awareness of players around him, both team-mates and, more crucially, opponents. There are too many times when he’s caught in possession, often from behind. At such moments he looks a bit slow and ponderous. He needs to develop a Scholsey-type radar. He’s shown in big games such as Bayern that he’s got big-match temperament, but he’s still just as motivated against lesser teams, such as citeh.

  186. wayne says:

    read yesterday were ozil is close to signing for real along with khedira,mourinho wants to unload kaka and a few other guys

  187. Costas says:

    Hodgson said that Joe Cole didn’t choose Liverpool for the money. No he chose them because he will win a lot of trophies there…

  188. johnnyAvi says:

    is it me, going off the subject like…could berba play as creative midfield between say fletch&(insertname) and rooney? i think he could

  189. mikekelly12 says:

    Talk shit just promote the team of whoever is presenting at the time, I wouldn’t get too worked up about it. I think a lot of people are losing sight of what supporting United is all about. I’d sooner build a team in the Busby philosophy then do a Chelsea/City and sell ourselves out and attempt to buy history! Of course this will never happen. Yes, they may win a few trophies along the way but as clubs they will be undervalued classless vessells where mercinaries will come and go! They wont create legends like Edwards, Robson, Giggs, Cantona, they’ll buy commodoties!! Give me a club of real value with a real history and a youth policy to be proud of ahead of cash on delivery trophies any day. Don’t get me wrong, I love winning trophies, but I will take a few barron years if that means we win trophies the right way! And I trust that Sir Alex will do this, after all, if we can’t trust Sir Alex after what he has done for our club, we have serious issues.

  190. johnnyAvi says:

    i have stopped reading tabloids…..stopped watching sky sports news and ive stopped listening to fat virgin bastards talking about united….every year my little bro gets a footie mag saying “predicted” table finish….4 years running..united 3rd, 4th and you know what…………we fuckin won it!!!!…………city will be fucked when it turns out their owners been funding terrorism….liverpool arnt a threat…chelsea….fair play….theyre strong..cant argue……..but..chelski aint signed no fucker apart from that belsom fucker benayoun……..are they skint?…nah…..ahh i swear these bastards will turn me into derick bird moat in a united shirt!!!

  191. wayne says:

    @mikekelly i agree with you 100% theres a reason i’ve been a utd fan for 42 yrs and it has nothing to do with signing rentboys its all about the loyalty and love for the club that runs through everyone from management,players and fans thats what sperates us from everyone else and that is the reason utd is magical

  192. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Start off by expressing my condolences to Gibson

    Now for Quility comment of the day

    intheTea04 1 hour ago
    Nani had his little sulk around December last year, then he comes back in the New Year and he’s a player transformed! He’s got a lot of potential if he gets his head down. I only hope he doesn’t scarper when Real or Barca come calling in the future – and I’m not even a Man Utd fan. I just hate to see amazingly talented foreigners leave top-class English sides when the big Spanish or Italian sides come calling. Its sad.

  193. Jaansdad says:

    talk shite radio is the biggest joke on the airwaves.
    Quinn and cunty are absolute clowns.
    I love it, that every year Man Utd are written off by so called experts, just to have their noses rubbed in it when their ignorant predictions fall flat.

  194. Passe_Mouraille says:

    It should be mandatory to read posts like that of mikekelly12′s before whining about stupid marquee signings. I’m so full of it now and it’s even worse than last season.

  195. RedScot says:

    Brilliant comments on here today, just love reading and trying to understand peoples points of view.
    I know it has become a bit of a joke on here that I am bit of a nutter and offer nothing to the blog.

    I will do a Scott firstly, apoligies moderator lol.
    On Joe Cole my friend on here raised him a while back and he knows who i mean.
    I thought at the time, ermmm ok he is more knowledgable than me, i will go with it, although i had my doubts. On Scots normal view to base an arguement on facts.
    At Wet Spam Cole 1 goal on average every 12 games.
    At Chelsay Cole 1 goal every 7 games.
    His highest tally I believe was 10, cant recall the season.
    Injured 2007 foot.
    Injured 2009 knee.
    Just agree they are welcome to him.
    Brilliant post bye AIG @7.52 loved the positive nature mate.
    The Goat is a bit like me he couches his words carefully and thinks.Cracking post’s at both 8.59 and 12.08. Although if my memory serves me right, you are lost in Sweden, so a season ticket is worth how much to you.Ohhh I know he is an Ex member of AbbA , with his private Jet. Joking.

    .
    BELIEVE.

  196. willierednut says:

    I think it’s gonna be another roller coaster season, with ups and downs, i just hope that some of the positive comments we’ve had today, stay the same, especially if we don’t start the season too well. I still think we need at least another signing, preferable a midfielder, but if we don’t, then i’ll still get behind the lads and hope SAF can pull another rabbit out of the hat.

  197. RedScot says:

    Its gonna be tight Willie, like a young virgin, no that you will recall that> lol
    We must watch Citeh, they wether we like it or not are gonna be a threat, although there manager Mancini might be the loose bolt in that machine.
    Its keeping all those mercinaries happy, and also the Sheik Monsour, probably if all the oil leaks out of the Gulf of Mexico we will be saved.
    Fucking Rabbits out of hats, who are you meaning mate? yer no Tommy Cooper are you!
    I think that Rabbit as you suggest is one Javier Hernandez mind buddie he is as fast as fuck.

  198. MG says:

    What did I miss?

  199. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Is Cole really gettin 10 grand less that torres

  200. willierednut says:

    RedScot – I’m not that old, i do remember those days lol. Tommy Cooper? More like Paul Daniels.

  201. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    What do you lot reckon about Lassana Diarra, would he be a decent inclusion to the squad. What I mean by that is an addition to the squad to cover for the ever crocked Hargreaves. Hes young and has gained a good deal of experience over the years BUT finds himself back with Mourinho as his boss. The man who sold him to Arsenal.

  202. RedScot says:

    @Willie I dont remember those days , just some Celtic lads with me telling me what to type.
    Pure piss takers.
    G/nite Willie you mad and as funny as fuck Niron Ger/True Red.
    blows you a kiss. lmao.
    aff to the pub for a wee dance and highland fling

  203. willierednut says:

    RedScot – Highland fling? make sure you land on ya feet, and not your heed lol,

  204. willierednut says:

    Torrential rain on mersyside, lucas has said he’s staying.

  205. GoatinaUnitedShirt says:

    God the signing of Joe Cole is keeping everyone at the club, Gerrard now Lucas. Maybe Babel will stay or that greek phlopadopolis. I can’t see anyone catching Liverpool at the top next year, they’re gunna do it clear, 10 points like.
    ^said with tongue in cheek.

  206. Wakey says:

    Ozil for £12mill is either just paper talk or the club are trying to get a bidding war going. Its less than he was being touted around for before the world cup and certain less than his value after even with the issue of the expiring contract. I just don’t see it imho as being realistic.

    Unless ofc SAF pulled a master stroke when he said he thinks we are done for the summer and that truly has got owners of any player we have expressed an interest in to reconisder. There are after all a few players we have been rumoured to have made enquires about but have been given inflated prices for or told not for sale both of which can be tactics to get the club to overpay but we are still early in the window really with many clubs yet to do their spending so that seems to be a little early to have worked.

    On the Huntelaar story, I don’t see him joining either City or us. He has proven repeatedly that the dutch league can make players look better than they are and imho his reluctance to leave sooner when he had the chance prevented him ever developing the skill level needed for the top level. If he is in the country then the biggest club I can see him joining is Liverpool as while Gerrard has no options on the table so is basically forced to stay I think torres will almost certainly be off so he could be a cheap replacement. More likely to end up at Wigan, Bolton, Everton or the likes imho

    Finally I see season ticket sales have passed the 50k mark which is in line with the sales at this stage last year

  207. CROoney says:

    GHTT – i believe that it is you that don’t get my nickname(username) so i epxlained it to you on the other thread….you implied something that i was a CR fan and that he left like more than a year ago…i dunno if you saw my reply but i will post it again

    -my nick is not CRooney, it is CROoney which implies that am a rooney( united) fan from croatia, not that am a fan of ronaldo and rooney…

    cheers

    p.s. – apologies if you ‘re not the one that implied that, this goes to whoever sent me that post

  208. bigphil2003 says:

    @indiandevil – Great read but I have to be honest and say I’ve never heard anyone use either of the phrases “Neviller” or “PS18″ before.

  209. aig alex is god says:

    @King Eric

    clearly you are deluded if you feel United are going to win the league. Whatever they said on Talksport was spot on. United could do well with a Europa League finish. The team is aging. Rooney clearly had a one off fluke season last year. Chelsea will be unstoppable this year.They have such a young team. Also i agree with Cunty oops cundy that our illustrious neighbours will be their main rivals. They have strengthened so much. Yaya Toure deserves to be the richest player in the league. He is miles better than Rooney or anyone else for that matter. Oh and dont forget Liverpool. They have signed Cole who as Steven Gerrard says is as good as Messi and Ronaldo(cant doubt that). This could be their year too. Also you should know by now Fergie has lost it. he has been lucky for 20 odd years to win so much. he is running out of luck

  210. arijc says:

    Yeah, hadn’t heard of “Neviller” or “PS18″ either. But its a good read.

    Impostor alert. Can’t believe that the earlier comments are aig’s comments.

  211. Costas says:

    I think AIG is kidding.

    Either way, we need a new topic, lol.

  212. bigphil2003 says:

    @aig – shades of the old aig lol. Luckily he seems to be long gone!

  213. trevor says:

    Lads,

    First on this topic, Looking at Smalling he certainly has potential! He looks tall, Quick and looks likehe could turn into our next rio!

    Little early to tell! He is young, He is going to get caught out of poisition, He is going to make mistakes and over play when he should knock it into touch, Miss Place Passes! Within time he will turn into a good player, Time will tell if he will be great!

    Id like to see a few games with Smalling and Evans together cause they would be the spine of our team in a few years! Prospects look good!

    In my opinion 10 to 20 million on a young highly promising British Player is a gamble / or money well spent! British players who come to united general want to finish their career at united! Proving a good initial investment!

    No offence, but Nani, Anderson, Macheda i can see Nani and Anderson want at some point to play in Spain, and Macheda I think will want a return to Italy. I may be wrong but just an inclination!

    British players also appreciate the history and what playing for united means! They are more willing to sit on the bench and be a team! There also is less a gamble that they will not adapt to the English game or not settle in the country!

  214. aig alex is god says:

    @arjic, Costas,bigphil

    Good Morning

    ;-)

  215. trevor says:

    Lads,

    Reading a few posts there is a bit of a doubt about our credentials for next year! We won the leage 3 times ont he trott, History and Statistics where against us last year and i think we did extremly well and pushed chelsea to the end! With a change of luck in certain games we would have won the league!

    Lets not forget Missing out Next year, & Rooneys Poor World Cup. I can see rooney continue last years form! He is going to have extra drive!

    Some people Forgetting the tallent we have in our squad.

    Ok.

    Anderson Will return this year. A year older, a year more mature and with something to prove!
    Macheda – Could be his year to shine
    Nani – Will be better than last year – We have a match winner and a world class player here!
    Rooney – Scary to think what he is capable of
    Fletcher – WE know what we are going to get! Every Year he gets better and better
    Evans – No need to explain
    Rafael – Enough Said

    Lads The future is looking bright!

    Also mention

    John Oshea back

  216. Eight08 says:

    Agreed with Trevor

  217. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    Trevor super post

    Whats with the Nani turned it around now its Andersons turn stuff that i read alot of

    stop me(and inform me why) if im wrong, but didnt anderson suck it up last season and regain and improve on his form from his first season , wasnt he the power of midfield while opening up defences with 1 pass, I read on here he reminded someone of keane, and the talk was its nanis turn to follow andersons lead. Anderson got injuried and it was a huge blow of the time because of his form. He’ll be back to stamp his name on the team sheet – beside fletch as the starting 11 as a replacement for when ever scholes feels its time to move on

  218. bigphil2003 says:

  220. davide says:

    shak are u on drugs?

  221. King Eric says:

    aig – ha ha great post and spot on. They were at it again last night. This time “saggers”. He said if United don’t make a good start they could be the ones dropping out the top four!! Can you actually believe this? They think we are some 2 bit club, its laughable. They then went onto say our kids aren’t that good then ten minutes later raved on about Arsenals. Our kids aren’t that good yet they have won trophies? Fucking idiots.

  222. Costas says:

    How about some pics of the lads at Philadelphia on top of the famous Rocky steps? Very inspirational I would say!

  223. kel says:

    Nani is so funny. LOL

  224. trevor says:

    @ GHTT

    I got called away from work urgently.

    You Questioned Anderson Last year?

    I may be wrong but Anderson i think Struggled with his HEad and off Field problems. The lad was close to Ronaldo. Ronaldo Left. He maybe felt a little bit homesick, or not as comfortable in his personal life. I know he is paid x which is more than us mortals receive in a year but the lad is young and human!… Our personal Lifes affect performances at work!

    Also Anderson wants to be playing every week, He is young and naive! He does need to grow up and also needs to mature into the player he is going to be! He just is not as patient as other players which i am sure Rubs Fergie up!

    Anderson could have a fantastic year this year, or he could have one as simular as last! With him being out injured for so long, I can forsee him having extra drive and having a cracking season!

    Cant wait for the season to get started!

  225. trevor says:

    @ Ghtt,

    Questioned ANderson was the wrong term! think you know what i meant!

  226. King Eric says:

    trevor – hello mate. Don’t forget Valencia too. He was great for his first season.

  227. King Eric says:

    Mike Kelly12 – Great post last night fella.

  228. King Eric says:

    Hi Costas , are you well mate? Yeah I saw that footage last night. Wonder if they ran out of Nike shirts for Berba? Perhaps they aren’t cool enough!

    Cannot wait for tonight to see the lads again.

  229. trevor says:

    @ King Eric!

    Totally correct! I did forget Valencia! He was superb last season. An old fashioned winger who just does what he is supposed to do!

    I reminded me a little of Kanchelskis! ( i know its not spelt right!) just wants to get the ball and power past Defenders to whip the ball into the box!

    Personally i am looking an hoping to see a Rooney & Owen partnership. Owen for me out of all our strikers makes the best and most runs behind defenders! He provides that extra directness we need in some matches. I know owen has his doubters & also has his problems

    Just looking forward to the start of the season!

  230. willierednut says:

    AIG – You shouldn’t have to change your opinion, because some don’t like what you’re saying.

  231. aig alex is god says:

    @willie

    meaning??????????

  232. willierednut says:

    AIG – You seemed to have changed your tune lately, you’ve went from being negative to positive, just wondering why. ps I do know you were joking with your post at 8.45.

  233. aig alex is god says:

    @willie

    maybe when things dont go well during the season i wont be so positive.currently though with the new season about to start i am full of positive energy and excited and nothing can dampen that.

  234. Costas says:

    @King Eric

    Hi mate. All is well thanks. I hope you are good. Didn’t notice that Berba wasn’t wearing Nike. Lol.

  235. willierednut says:

    I see Robbo says United need a striker, what does he know eh.

  236. King Eric says:

    willierednut – hello mate. So because Robson says we need a striker he is right? A fantastic player and my boyhood idol but hardly a top manager mate.

  237. willierednut says:

    King Eric – Actually, he says we need two players, a midfielder and a striker. Not a top manager? thats an understatement, great player though.

  238. Costas says:

    The problem with Robbo’s statement, is that the way the squad is structured, in order to get a striker now, we have to offload 3 or 4. Whether it’s sales or loans. I agree with him about the midfield. Especially if Hargo doesn’t make a comeback.

  239. willierednut says:

    Robbo and super Lou, still think we’ll make at least one signing, i’d settle for a midfielder. Sorry to say, i’ve almost given up on Hargo, but you never know.

  240. Costas says:

    Not too optimistic about him either willie. If we don’t get another midfielder, then we have 2 sure bets(Fletch and Scholesy) and 3 question marks(Carrick, Ando and Gibson). Ando and Gibson are young and I can see them improving even this season. With Carrick I do wonder if he can bounce back.

  241. trevor says:

    Have to join you with regards to Hargreaves!

    With a full bill of health and the length of recovery he has had maybe the best thing for the club would be for him to announce his retirement and the club claim off the players insurance if the club were able to do so!

    I dont know what they can claim for in these circumstances!

    However the above is not what i really want, I would like Him back playing tomorrow and for us to get 3 good injury free years out of him!

    I am convinced he would have made a difference last year! A lovely lad and a very very very good footballer! I feel sorry for him and feel it a bit harsh some of the lack of respect he has been shown by some of our fans has been disappointing!

  242. trevor says:

    @ Costas,

    Im fully with you on Ando, Gibson & Carrick

    Scholes was nothing short of sensational at the end of last season! Fletcher just keeps improving and getting more consistent every season!

    Im not one of carricks fans, after the Night in Rome and some of his performances last season just made me angry! He has certain qualities but is still in scholes’s shadow. If i had to count on one i would have had scholes any day of the week! How long he will continue is beyond me!
