Smalling: United Drills Winning Mentality In To Players

Chris Smalling has hailed Manchester United’s winning mentality, claiming that having experienced players like Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand ensures that the younger players know exactly what is expected from them.

“At this club it’s always drilled in to me: ‘Make sure you’re a winner, go about off the pitch like you’re a winner.’ It helps when you have players like Giggsy and Rio who’ve won a lot. You see them side-by-side with you and that really drives you on,” said Smalling. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s the 93rd minute, Giggsy is making his jinky, mazy little runs. You could forgive him for maybe not coming out training every day, because he’s done so much in the game, but every day he’s out there. He doesn’t seem to need a rest. He’s not one of the noisiest ones in the dressing room but as we come in from the warm-up, he goes round, talks to everybody, gives them little information or says ‘good luck’. He’s very mellow. If one of the young lads might be nervous, it’s nice to see someone not getting too pumped up. When you see Ryan like that it chills you out.”

Interesting interview. Smalling does not particularly come across as a leader of men type. Very interesting though to read about the influence of the dressing room on molding a champion mentality.

Given the last post, on Rio’s maybe resigning, I would NOT be all that confident that we don’t need Rio and Vidic to stay a year or two more at least. Work definitely still need to be done.

Smalling has to rate as one of our very tidy pieces of recent business.

But ya might not go off to find the full text of the interview. The lad is a Gunner born.

Still, I like him and rate him to form a partnership with Evans. They have had a couple of very very top games together, but clearly are still a couple years shy of developing into the finished product. Back him though and rate him as well.

Right, did anyone else catch the revelations about QPR’s debacle in Dubai? All the elements of Rios infamous New Years party a which won a benching for Wayne Rooney

But this was for a week with the entire team! Boys 8O

Harry didn’t have a clue!

These comments shoudl shut that pair of fucking clowns up on Talksport last night saying how is Giggs a role model to young players. Snide remarks like “What does he do, show them round Manchester” Err its fucking obvious you ignorant cunts.

Hmm, that’s why SAF has made this decision to keep players like Scholes and Giggs for this purpose…..and I remember not too long ago so many idiots on here were calling for them to be axed.
