Sneijder: United Is A Beautiful Club

Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart were interviewed on AT5 Studio Ajax today.

“Do I want to go to United? It’s a beautiful club,” he said. “But I’m fine in Milano and I’m not at the point to think about it.”

Van der Vaart was happy to encourage Sneijder to join, despite getting in a dig about the city of Manchester.

“You see all those players from Manchester United and City are coming to London,” said van der Vaart. “So that says a lot about the city, I think. But it would be fun. Wes can also enjoy stopping by in London. Man United is a better club than Inter.”

Sneijder claimed that he would like to return to Holland at some point thought.

“When I return, whenever it happens, it will be for Ajax.”

Sneijder’s wife is a beautiful girl. Bring her over Wesley so we can have a good look…

  2. DeanRED says:

this better work out during the summer, we could rly do with a european midfielder

  3. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Ssshhh, quiet everyone….can you hear that? If you listen carefully you can hear the rumour mill turning.

  4. dmc3113 says:

please give Sir Alex the cash to get him!!!! Him playing right behind chich & roo (sorry Berba, i love ya but u do slow our play down at times) with nani and Valencia on the flanks, oh me likey!

  5. MUFCOK says:

Manchester is fucking wonderful, whats van der vaart on about.

    North over south anyday.

  6. fergie is the boss says:

what is van der vaart on about, what players are coming to london

  7. Cyril Sneer says:

Van De Vaart is talking about Balotelli on his regular trips to Harley Street to see his melon doctor.

  8. manutdisadream says:

    @ fergie is the boss

he probably ment for the FA cup semi

  9. United4eva says:

Love to Sneijder as our midfield general playing the same role he used to at Ajax and in his first season at Madrid under Schuster. He would be brilliant pulling the strings in the middle of the park, driving forward with the ball at his feet, picking out passes and striking the ball from outside the box. It’d be like late 90s Scholesy all over again…

  10. fergie is the boss says:

and In to add, I am completly disgusted by fans behavior towards darron gibson on twatter, gd player or average player he is better than all those low lives who have nothing better to do but talk shit, heck they must be sad that they have twitter accounts and only choose to follow gibson to give him disgraceful abuse. I am completly angry how anyone can call themselves fans, and if they are united fans they are not united fans only glory hunting spoilt cunts

  11. Ryandunny says:

“Do I want to go to United? It’s a beautiful club,

    To me that translates too…

Do I want to go to United?… Yes of course I do…but can’t say it.

Well thats what I’d bloody hope anyway! ha

  12. fergie is the boss says:

manutdisadream – but his comments make no sence, because the FA made sure they got their 10 pieces of silver by having the FA cup staged at wembley. And the shit sandwich of a stadium has to be in the stinking capital of england

  13. I AM NOT A MAN says:

Just keep peddling the lies about London being better than Manchester so that overcrowded shithole of a capital keeps all the twats down there.
Manchester can stand proud as one of the finest and most attractive City`s not just in the UK but Europe.
Manchester is a thousand times better than Milan and everybit as good as Amsterdam or London.
Paris and Rome are certainly better as is Barcelona but you are by no means slumming it in Manchester and to believe otherwise is to believe the London Lies.

    Oh Manchester, Is Wonderful ……

  14. denton davey says:

I don’t get this love-fest for Sneijder – don’t you guys watch UTD play with WayneBoy in that role ?

  15. Dandivine7 says:

Sneijder will be a United player next season. Notice His statement does not say “I am staying at Inter” rather a rhetorical question “do I want to go to United” He already knows! Also today Sir Alex refused to answer on Nuer, Bayern might be favourites but United are in with a big chance, lets see how it all unfolds…

  16. FletchTHEMAN says:

Several sites are liking Sneijder with City. We apparently tried to get him 2 years ago in the Ronaldo trade but it didn’t happen. Don’t know if we will pay over the odds for a 26-27 year old. Nice little player, but a bit old for finding his way into a United side. We will see.

@FITB You tell em son. We we well on this topic in the previous post. Hope Scott can think of some appropriate way to make a topic of this.

  17. 11am says:

I know theres been lots of rumours about him signing, but does anyone think this will never happen? In all honestly i think we’ll splash out on a keeper, most probally de Gea, and cant see us spending much more money. Also if he did come to us then at 27 is his age appropriate for the glazers?

  18. Manced says:

So beautiful in fact that they harass their own players off of twatter

  19. Devil310 says:

Fergie could have bought him from Madrid at a cut price….dont you think there might be a solid reason why he didn’t?

My take is that Sneijder was never interested in coming, or Fergie didn’t want him….and why would he now, whe he’s worth about 20mil+?

    Not gonna happen

  20. fergie is the boss says:

FletchTHEMAN – I only just found out the past 10 mins, scott has got to make a topic on this subject. Can anyone say how many united fans abused gibson because im outraged by this, totaly disgusted by low lives making him shut his account down

  21. fergie is the boss says:

I really feel so bad for the guy its unreal

  22. willierednut says:

Great player, but we don’t need him. Your man Rooney can play in his position.

  23. Ryandunny says:

    FletchTheMan

I think he’s the perfect age for us…. He’s not too young so he won’t be haulting the chances of Pogba, Tunnicliffe and Morrison in the long run

and he’s not too old that he might be past his best.

From what I heard. Just because Sneijder was available two years ago for cheaper and Fergie didn’t sign him doesn’t mean he was interested. He was busy trying to find replacements for Ronaldo and Tevez.

  24. FletchTHEMAN says:

Dandivine. Would love Neuer, but don’t see it. Prove me wrong and I will be happy enough! Think we are going to be surprised whoever it is that comes. This summer we will have some real hard facts to sort out. Until then, smoke and mirrors.

  25. redyank@work says:

sorry all, this might be off topic but i need to get this out.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3546132/Fans-hound-Manchester-United-midfielder-Darron-Gibson-off-Twitter.html

things like this makes me ashamed to be a United fan. We support Manchester United not City, or Hull, or some other small time club! Supporting Manchester United means getting behind our lads and giving them our full support.

We are the best fans in the world. Lets start acting like it. Embarrassing!

  26. arijc says:

A recent tweet from Oliver Kay of The Times regarding the Gibbo issue…
“For what it’s worth I’m told Darron Gibson quit Twitter because he “couldn’t be done with” his phone going mad. (Yes, turn off notifications, I know. Just passing it on … And those who abused him are still idiots)”

  27. 11am says:

Red yank, doesn’t excuse the scum, but it wasn’t the reason he left, apparently “couldn’t be doing with the alerts”

I’m not keen on gibbo as a utd player but this ist the actions of a fan. Even thinking he isn’t good enough would cause me as a fan to send him abuse. Doesnt sound like a realistic reason to quit anyway. Id be pretty sure players like owen would get far more stick

  28. FletchTHEMAN says:

I actually heard that Sneijder turned us down and chose Inter. Wanted to play for Mourinho. But probably will never never know the truth of that. This is the Hargreaves issue all over again. Don’t get me wrong. Sneijder would do a beautiful job. Just can’t see us spending 25M for a player that will only play 4 years. Would be interesting if the Mourinho – Sneijder love in is behind this though. Just sayin….

  29. Hargo's Curly Hair says:

    @ fergie is the boss
Spot on mate,it seems like there are many so called fans who are typical glory hunters, that kind of behavior is sickening especially criticism that they throw to a Manchester United player. Disgusting bunch of ungrateful bastards them lot are!

I don’t pay attention to any glory hunters,as I don’t take anything that comes out of their mouths seriously they’re full of sh*t thinking and dreaming that we’d turn our club into football manager,I may not comment a lot on ROM but some comments in the past thread have been gut-wrenching to say the least seeing some called United fans that barge in here and slag the players and demanding United to go for players X and Y. That’s what you get nowadays,as soon as United win it’s all good, the next moment if we draw or lose the usual clowns come on here and find a scapegoat, some saying thatwe’re not good enough. I mean some day this other plastic fan was like he doubts we’ll win the league just cos we drew against the Geordies! How fucking daft of a comment.

Anyway glad to see Wesley praising us,as expected though,we’re the greatest team in the world.
VDV must be referring to Bibliotelli the cunt, anyway North over the South anyday and that will never change for me.

Uhm lads another thing bugging me is this wankfest the media are going on,claiming Real and Barca are the two best teams in world football,I mean the clusterfuck only depend on Ronnie and their defence is shite, not to mention the poncy diving tika taka cunts Bartha those cunts make me sick anyway they rely on their midfield and we all know shut their mid fielders down and they don’t have any substance to conjure up something,no fucking PLAN B! What a bunch of wankers!

  30. ManchestHairUnited says:

manchester must be a bit of a boring place…can’t complain though…live in edmonton canada where it’s a little boring but cold as funk half the year…grass is greener I guess!

  31. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

Did anyone know that we spent months scouting Taarabt? I can’t believe no one has brought that up, he knew of our interest as well so did their manager.

I’ve seen him a lot this season an he looks good to be honest, my only worry about that is would he be in over his head at United? Maybe at first but I think he could cut it.

8-10 mil at least wouldn’t be a bad buy in my opinion, along with Sneijder and a GK.

  32. sports24x says:

please come to manchester united sneijder…

  33. Dandivine7 says:

People keep saying Rooney can play Sneijder’s role, I agree …to an extent BUT He’ll not a central midfielder, His basic instinct is goal scoring thus it might be an advantage to opponents to drag Him out of position and expose the other midfielder. Sneijder on the other hand, has played the deep lying role, box to box, and advanced roles, He’s 27 in June, thus can play “box to box” at least for six years, then play like Scholes presently for 2 years then returns to Ajax! Remember Hernandez would love To have Wes and Rooney pulling the strings for Him. I strongly believe the deal will happen…

  34. fergie is the boss says:

it is awesome that there is a twitter channel wanting gibson back. How some united fans can even have that name tagged to them is beyond me, heck I comment that certain united players do not fit, or they are not gd enough but I will never spew abuse at them, if gibson realises his potiental from midfield he is the next lampard a goalscoring machine from midfield

  35. Cyril Sneer says:

@ Dre.FU – We sent scouts to watch Taarabt play after he appeard in the media tlling everyone that a deal had been done. When they watched him play he had a massive hissy-fit on the pitch, demanded to be ubstituted and argued with a bunch of other players. I assume that put an end to our interest in him.

  36. fergie is the boss says:

willierednut – I am sure schneider can play in CM. Ig fergie can turn giggs into a CM from playing in the wide left position for years, then schneider is a piece of cake

  37. Redranz says:

    @Dre.FU= Forever United

Apparently when the United scouts were watching he had a strop on the field and they weren’t too impressed.

Re: The Gibbo issue – Classless ‘fans’! Even if that is your opinion, how is it helping his game to know that his own supporters don’t back him.

  38. Dandivine7 says:

@Fletchtheman, Sneijder did not want to leave Madrid, even after interest from Inter only left cos He was told close to transfer deadline that He’ll only be considered on a bit part basis(due to arrival of Kaka and Alonso), thats Madrid for You. In hindsight, United could have tried harder for Him but All Is Well…

  39. karandravs says:

@fitb totally agree with you mate. It is horrendous. Gibbo might be an average player but i hope he gets his confidence back and starts striking them. Considering how little game time Gibbo gets and no consecutive matches, it is nearly impossible for him to get into a groove. Even Wazza had a rather slow start to this season with getting his touch together game after game. He is still only 23 and can only improve.. Where the fuck where these fans when they were 23. And these are the same guys who get others called glory hunters !!

  40. J. says:

I really wouldnt be surprised if SAF decided to sign no one at all in the summer, provided none of the goalies looked at so far are available for sale. So until I actually see a handshake and a smile in front of OT, I am not holding my breath regarding transfers. The era of signing big names are well and truly over.

  41. denton davey says:

Ryandunny @ 18:02: “Just because Sneijder was available two years ago for cheaper and Fergie didn’t sign him doesn’t mean he was interested. He was busy trying to find replacements for Ronaldo and Tevez.”

I don’t think that this computes in terms of chronology – SAF signed Dimmy to “replace” CR7, the year before Ronaldo realized his dream. Also, I don’t think that SAF and his scouting team just think one step ahead – they have been scouring the world to find players (like Bebe who is the most extreme example but Chicharito and Obertan are also in this category as is KikoTheKid and the other young Italians and Pogba and so on) who have some abilities that they think can be nurtured at OT/Carrington to turn “projects” into players.

Overlooking Sneijder – when he was considered surplus-to-requirements at RM – was surprising. The official explanation has been that he didn’t want to come to M/C – it ain’t everybody’s idea of “heaven”. He’s younger than van der Vaart and less injury-prone than Robben. All three Dutchmen were flogged at the same time (well, to be accurate van der Vaart hung on – unwelcome – for another year) along with Ruud and Royston Drenthe when the RM hierarchy decided against going Dutch. I think that Robben has the most talent – even though he’s almost pathetically-one-footed like van Persie – but Sneijder seems to have the most aggression and seems to be more-or-less bullet-proof in his physical conditioning. He’s also two-footed, fast., and a tough little bugger.

BUT Wesley is not really what UTD “need” – he’s not a box-to-box dynamo. AND what exactly would you do with WayneBoy if you had to figure out how to accommodate Sneijder and Chicharito and Nani and Tony Valencia and DarrenFletcherinho ? Just asking.

  42. jellybean says:

Damn right Wesley, and it will be beautiful with or without you. As much as I’d like him to come, I find it hard to think he actually would. Most of our signings tend to out of left field, and given his age, I do not see Fergie paying that much for him. But who am I to even presume to know what the Gaffer is thinking!

Off topic- HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT! Hope you have a brilliant day mate, and more reason to celebrate tomorrow. And thank you for writing RoM throughout the year including your birthday! Guess you need your fix as well :P

  43. 90+Until We Score says:

What a load of bullshit at Twitter…….this is disgraceful…..ain’t it enuf that we have to take piss from Pier Morgan and now our own brethren goes against one of ours in public….just shameful

  44. willierednut says:

FITB – You’re missing the point though, why would Fergie want to change Sneijder position? He’s one of the best AM in the world. He’s happy playing in that position, so why would the manager change it? It would defeat the purpose IMO. He’s creative and score goals. It wouldn’t make sense to play him in a deeper role, when he’s so good playing in the hole. Also, forget this 25 million nonsense. I’d say double that.

  45. denton davey says:

FletchTHEMAN @ 18:11: “Would be interesting if the Mourinho – Sneijder love in is behind this though. Just sayin….”

SO, d’ya think that if SAF wins the CL/EPL double in the next five weeks that TheOldFootieKnight will call it a day ? Ride into the sunset, like. Just wonderiing….”

  46. scan74 says:

fergie is the boss here here mate no need for that weather you rate Gibbo or not theres no fuckin need for that if hes not good enough so be it

hes still one of ours should always be behind the shirts

  47. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

    @Cyril Sneer & Redranz

    Cheers mates

Yeah I’d heard about that an apparently they were put right off but, seeing how impressive he has been for the whole season I would be naive to think that they weren’t at least considering it. (Wasn’t he championship player of the year as well)

He scores goals creates, creates goals (created the opening goal for routledge today) don’t defend for shit but still as an alternative to sneijder taarabt would be a smart option.

  48. Xyth says:

Let’s hope Blackburn get something out from the match tonight. That would motivate Spurs even more for next Saturday!!

People should leave Gibson alone. Like him or not he is a United player!!!

Wesley Sneijder would definitely improve our squad and team!!!!

  49. dazbomber says:

A midfield of of Nani ,Rooney, Sneijder, and Tony V. What i would give to see those four.

  50. scan74 says:

Wesley Sneijder would be a cracking signing great addition quality player

  51. gaz says:

im not a fan of gibson i dont think he will make it at united but lay off the boy

but these cunt faces who say there united fans please piss off and support a club worthy of your shitness man citeh et all im fucking raging over this shit this lad is born and bred united prefer these lads around then fucking mercenary cunts like kettle neck and adebawhore etc…on the other hand sneijder wud be an amazing buy for us! and please LAY OFF GIBBO YOU CUNTS

  52. King Eric says:

Yeah cyril sneer is bang on. We did go watch taarabt but he did have a tantrum and demand to be subbed. Warnock said he can forget about united now! Fucking spurs reject anyway.

As for sneijder those asking if he could adapt. Of course he fucking could. I know it was a european game but he absolutely ripped the rentboys apart. I like wes but not sure if fergie is after him. He will probably get someone leftfield that nobody expects.

As for gibbo those cunts aint united supporters. They are little fucking mugs who have only been watching united since ronaldo came on scene. An embarrasment to united fans.

As for van der vaart. Fuck off. Thought the only club he would come to in ingerlun was united. Hhmm. Look how that turns out. At least when he knew the world would be watching last week against arsenal he bothered turning up. First time since xmas. North > south.

  53. Ryandunny says:

    King Eric

I remember that game. It was such a performance from Sneijder. He made 5 killers passes in the space of 20 minutes and if Inter were more clinically they would have run riot that night.

My own opinion on what I think Sneijder would bring.

    http://ryandunny.wordpress.com/2011/04/22/wesley-sneijder-a-perfect-fit/

  54. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

There Is NO FUCKING WAY!!! Sneijder would go for over 25mil

People are over rating inter, Apart from the champions league has anyone really watched inter this season? In Serie A I have.

They are a shadow of the side that mourinho managed, theirs been no change in players but they look less confident with out mourinho I bet people would look at that last sentence and say duhh but inter look like their on their way down seriously limited funds players getting old their basically the italian chelsea or chelsea are the english inter either way you get what I mean.

Inter want sahin its official and he’s rated at 12 mil by dortmund but they don’t want to sell him, but probably will if a big enough offer comes in, so that obviously means squeezing as much money out of utd as possible if we do hopefully buy Sneijder.

I like sneijder an hope we do sign him, but 35 mil allow it 20-22 mil at least for me.

  55. willierednut says:

22 million would buy his right leg. No chance. Andy Carroll went for 35 million ffs!

  56. Ryandunny says:

    A midfield and frontline of

    Hernandez

    Rooney

    Nani Sneijder Fletcher/Carrick Valencia

Would be unbelievable. Barcelona eat your heart out!

  57. Neil says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SCOTT!

  58. shakshamboo says:

i think all this transfer muppetry is just a bit early. we have important few games coming up. we should just leave the transfer talk till the end of season.

  59. Ryandunny says:

    willierednut

Ya but Inter are supposed to want to have an overhaul of the club this summer. They are supposed to be desperate to sign Ganso who plays in Sneijder’s position, Tevez and Bale.

Also Sneijder and Leonardo are supposed to be having problems… so I think Inter might be willing to sell at a relatively ‘cheap’ price for his quality.

    I know its unlikely… I just don’t think it’s impossible.

  60. Costas says:

If Inter choose Leonardo over Sneidjer, they will be dumber than they were when they hired the FSW. What a stroke of genius!

Where is he by the way?

  61. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

    @willierednut

Fuck Carroll he’s just a harrier version of crouch, by 22 mil I mean if you take age into account and how many world class years we would get out of him, 22-25 mil seams about right.

But seriously 35 mil no way, don’t know how much we have to spend this summer but I’m positive we wouldn’t sign him for 35 mil that’s a piss take.

Foget how much trash like torres, ballotelli milner an the rest of the over rated shit cost oh yeah add lescott to that pile, those clubs are buy happy they always will be, were smart when it comes to big transfers.

Rooney- what 26mil mil buy justified
Ferdinand- 29 roughly 30mil buy justified
    Berbatov- 30mil justifying it now
Veron- 28mil or so ok maybe not as good as we hoped

But 3\4 aint bas is it for big buys

25mil for sneijder more than happy, 35mil not so

  62. willierednut says:

Ryan – Not at 20/22 million though. If Inter are in for Tevez, they’ll want as much as possible for Sneijder.

  63. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

    @willierednut

Fuck Carroll he’s just a harrier version of crouch, by 22 mil I mean if you take age into account and how many world class years we would get out of him, 22-25 mil seams about right.

    Berbatov- 30mil justifying it now
Veron- 28mil or so ok maybe not as good as we hoped

But 3\4 aint bad is it for big buys

25mil for sneijder more than happy, 35mil not so

  64. willierednut says:

We won’t get him anyway. Dream on lads lol.

  65. Dimitar Berbatov is King says:

The one player who I wouldn’t mind coming to our club. I believe that he has the bottle. But whether is he a team player? Fergie loves team players after all.

  66. Dazbomber says:

Ramos has put in a transfer request after dropping the spanish cup off the open top bus, he wants to join Arsenal to make sure this type of thing never happens again

  67. TheRadLegion says:

Rooney was great playing in midfield.. the only question or two are:
    1. if he is willing to play in that pos
    2. having a true midfielder is good.. no? rooney can be a backup.. but play him as a striker

  68. StatesideAussie says:

Lots of banter about what players might cost, especially Sneijder. But don’t forget, the FIFA Fair Play Financial Rules start to come into play next season. I expect that will put a dampener on transfer values. Already we seeing reports that Shitty will have to curtail their spending this summer. Remember also that the new rules affect not only transfer fees but salaries too. Personally, I reckon the rules are probably riddled with loopholes, but we’ll see.

There’s no doubt that transfers (both in size and volume) have been artificially inflated by the presence of big spenders like Shitty, the Virus, and Barca in recent years. Even if the rules don’t work properly, or don’t fully kick in yet, it’s hard to see that level of spending continuing. Barca are on the ropes, financially, and even the Virus and Shitty must be thinking enough is enough. If the mega-spenders cut back (for whatever reason), then values will fall.

  69. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

    Accidentally posted something twice.

If anyone has a Blackberry you would know how annoying it its when trying to post something on RoM.

    Sorry about that.

  70. MG says:

I bought Sneijder for my FM manager 2011 game

    Bloody good player :)

  71. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

    @ MG

    Forget Sneijder buy eboue

Got some more “world class player for you”

Diaby, Denilson, Rosicky, Bendtner, Arshavin, Clichy koscielny, Djrouou

Buy these players and you will win a trophy every season

  72. willierednut says:

    Fuck Eboue! Get Kevin Nolan!!!!

  73. Ryandunny says:

Oh I agree not at 20/22… I’m expecting around 30 million!

  74. StatesideAussie says:

MG … I was going to get FM 2011 but I heard it has some serious bugs. One is that once Wayne Rooney is in a team, the software makes sure he always starts, no matter how crap his recent form. Whereas the Berbatov character has a secret “max goals setting” which means he automatically becomes unavailable for selection as soon as he scores 21 goals.

    All in jest, of course..

  75. Dre.FU= Forever United says:

    @willierednut

    LOOOL!!!! Kevin Nolan Joker

  76. kev e says:

I was pretty shocked to hear some news about united from a couple of villa fans today. They are absolutely convinced that Ashley Young is a done deal. You always hear stories from someone who knows someone etc. We’ve heard it all before on united forums about players coming to us so take it with a pinch of salt. But it is apparently all over Bodymoor Heath where the villa train and these blokes all drink in the same pub as some of the guys involved at the villa.

I’m not sure whether this is good news? But if in doubt add another winger to the collection!!! Lol!

I reckon all true united fans should get behind Gibson. If there’s a twitter link to support him it should be posted up and we should all tweet our support.

  77. Cyril Sneer says:

Forget Nolan and Eboue, buy Boa Morte.

  78. redevil_83 says:

we’re gonna get a new keeper. sneijder would be a great buy but too expensive for his age. doesn’t mask the fact we need a CM though to replace scholesyy

and oh yes, not a big fan ashely young at all but he’s coming to united

gibson remains a sh-t player but i won’t publicly abuse my club’s players like this we’re united for christs sake

  79. rooneyworldsbest says:

The only other way he could have answered that question is by saying ‘only god knows’. Him and ando in the middle would be sweet, as long as ando plays like he did on Saturday.

I fucking detest London with a passion. Speak to a stranger there in the street or on public transport and they presume you’re either a vagrant, beggar or weirdo. Maybe it’s the way I dress lol.

I like the way things are up north; old people always willing to discuss timetables at the bus stop, people getting deservedly smacked for saying things they’d get away with in London, 20 minutes from the countryside in every direction, in the TOP 50 BEST PLACES TO LIVE, more accurate pronunciation of vowels, down to earth, self-effacing humour, etc. Oh yes, the quality of footballing life.

  81. denton davey says:

re_devil @ 20: 45: “not a big fan ashely young at all but he’s coming to united”

Why ? Who would he displace – Valencia ? Park ? Nani ? This “rumour” makes no sense to me unless there are other irons in the fire – Nani leaving ? Nah ! That’s just my invention. Dimmy leaving ” But would Ashley Young “replace” him ? Nah !

This story just seems like smoke (without any mirrors).

  82. mattbw7 says:

Another player who wants to leave but cant admit and doesn’t want to over commit to one suitor or another, get ready for a summer of this.

  83. fergie is the boss says:

denton davey – I also feel we do not have a naturel left sided midfielder. Has gd has nani is, I do not think he works well on the left. valencia is right sided all the way, and he gives us speed which we have lacked all season. Nani will do a gd job on the left but we lose atleast 30% of his game. That is why I said young just for versitility, if sanchez comes at the right price united should sign sanchez, for versitility on both right and left. For me we have only three establised wide players, valencia nani and park, that for me is not enough for next season. I am still not convinced cleverly could do an effective job out wide, has he seems a more central player, maybe welbeck can play on the wide positions which I am still hoping for

  84. denton davey says:

fitb @ 21:36: ” Nani will do a gd job on the left but we lose atleast 30% of his game.”

I’m not sure about that – if he plays on the left then he can cut inside to shoot with his right foot. He did brilliantly on the left a few games ago when he had two assists. Also, his recent (relative) of form also coincides with his injury against Carragher. You have to wonder if there’s a connection or if he’s just going through a trough.

The point about “left-sidedness” is a good one but isn’t Ashley Young a right-footer ?

Welbeck has played wide for Sunderland, when they had Darren Bent, but he’s not really a natural winger; I know little about Cleverley but I don’t think he’s a winger. Isn’t Ravel Morrison a winger ? Is he left-footed ? Morrison is sure fast and very tricky.

Alexis Sanchez would be a big, big transfer fee and there’s no guarantee that he’d give UTD the same quality on the left side since he plays as a “withdrawn striker” for Udinese. He’s a damned good little player – fast as a wet fart, as the old saying goes – but I’m not sure he’s the right guy.

  85. torontored says:

Sorry folks just do not see him coming to OT. Watch a fair bit of Italian football here and from what I’ve seen he just is not a United player. Gets loads of space and time in Serie A – Darren Gibson would look great in that league.
Just look inward to what we have before dropping $40M on this guy. Cleverley/Ando etc – also seems to me that Rooney will be dropped deeper as he thrives on seeing the ball in the middle of the field and plays like a spare toe when he’s sent up front on his lonesome.
Spend the cash on a centre back and a keeper.

    UNITED 194 – 2011

  86. 11am says:

Rooney isn’t good enough to play central midfield – he is a striker. He can do a job in midfield but his passing and vision needed in midfield jus isn’t good enough to be a successor to scholes as many people say. Far far better as a striker

  87. Dakota says:

I like Rooney!! He is a great player..has been and will continue to be. I say keep him and let him shine. And I think they should really be concentrating on the next few games before all the talk of transfers comes up.

  88. T4M says:

Here’s hoping we sign the man.

  89. gazzer says:

Hey, I don’t mean to sabotage a good thread, but I was pretty disgusted to see Darren Gibson take down his twitter today after getting two hours of unrelenting criticism. It’s one thing to criticise him here where we talk about anything, but it’s another thing to abuse a player when he’s on the pitch or trying to reach out to us.
Let’s remember that, although he’s no Scholes, he’s still a pretty good footballer and he’s doing his best. The manger thinks so, and we should stick with him as long as he is part of the set up.

He didn’t disparage his opponent (Balotelli), he’s not vainglorious (Robben), he is not selfish on the ball (Cristiano!!!), he didn’t cheat (Maradona / Grobelaar), he isn’t dirty (De Jong), he doesn’t spit on opponents (Diouf), he doesn’t try to intimidate the referee (Drogba and the rest of Chelsea), and he doesn’t try to sleep with his teammate’s wife (fill that name in yourselves).

We owe him better than this

  90. wakey says:

    @Devil310

He couldn’t buy him from Real at a cut price. Real were asking more than £20mill at the time that we were rumoured to be sniffing around. £20mill+ then was ott as he hadn’t really set the world alight.

Early in the transfer window Inter bid £16mill which Real turned down on the spot. They no doubt expected Inter to come back with a better offer and for others to bid so they could get their £20mill but it didnt happen and a couple of weeks before the window closed Real went to Inter with a deal at £13mill.

Real did the same with VdV, over valued him scared everyone off and at the last minute had to offer a club a deal they couldnt turn down to get rid of him.

  91. gazzer says:

Just read the other comments on Gibson – sorry, but it was bugging me all day

  92. wakey says:

    RE: Gibson on twitter

You do realise that I could sign up and pretend to be a Gooner and abuse Wilshere all day long. Its a better story for the papers to say that

    1) He was being abused by United fans
    2) It hounded him off twitter

but we know he wasn’t hounded off twitter by the comments and the comments he did get that were negative we have no proof they were from genuine united fans

  93. gazzer says:

Good point. However, he does get a lot of crap from United fans and so it is more plausible than if it were directed at Wilshere

  94. Devil310 says:

    @wakey

Saying that Madrid turned down a bid for £16mil is just speculation….unless you were actually sitting at the negotiation table, which I can bet you weren’t

All we know is that Madrid wanted to get rid of that pack, including the dutch players, when Florentino took over again. Madrid had a garage sale, and Sneijder was first on the list. They were outspoken about it also, which made the price dropped on a lot of these players. Even Lass was wearing Sneijder’s number in preseason 1 month before the window was closed. Anyways, we could have walked in and made an offer then, but we didn’t….so why would we want the same player, 2 years older, for double the price?

I love Sneijder, and I think he would be a great addition to our team, but I don’t honestly see this happening.

  95. Zibbie says:

    Wow missed this party.
The coming and going of players is always a topic of conversation of fans of any club. The hate for people to blame one or two players for a bad result that sucks and the negative spew that flows during the game sucks donkey cunt. There is a huge difference from disrespecting the site and the club to sharing thought’s of who SAF was thinking about when he said he would add 2-3 players this summer. Some get pissed that anyone even bring up the transfer subject, to those get over it and chill. That is what these sites are for bullshiting and sharing good and bad ideas and thoughts.

  96. indiandevil says:

think we can leave the Sneijder and other transfer speculations for the summer, we are not Arsenal our season aint over, infact its just reached the most crucial stage. Lets get a result at Shalke tonight and then look ahead to the Emirates.

Enough of this fantasy football talk of Sneijder, Young , sanchez, taarabt Bull sheet.

How have you guys failed to notice, We Are Broke, We Cant Afford 20+ mill players with
    - glazer debts
    - football recession
-inflation of wages, transfer fees and agent fees
    - our squad is big and trusted by SAF
    - We have youth players coming through each year ( welbeck, cleverley, rafael/fabio, macheda)
    - more chances to blood youth.

    I’ll be honest with you guys as a Fifa Manager player with a low budget team o_O, we can expect these signings as a extraordinary moment of madness by fergie to bolster the team;

De Gea _ £19-22 mil or Rui Patricio for really cheap :O
    Alex Oxlade Chamberlain_ £12 mil
    or
    Ashley Young_£17 mil

If by a miracles we haves Pees to spend this summer, we will spend £40-50 mil on 2-3 players like Fergie said, We Don’t Buy Stars, We Make Them

  100. mara says:

  102. King Eric says:

willierednut – Spot on pal. It annoys me. Its just lazines brought on by reading everything the tabolids say. As I have said countless time sdo some folk really think Fergie is lying to appease the Glazers? Would never happen.

  103. dickens lumbasi vidic says:

    We need U at OT

  104. StatesideAussie says:

willie and king eric … you nailed it, mates. It is impossible to imagine SAF saying something just because the Glazers expect it. Those who think that are insulting his integrity and his intelligence. They are also assuming that if it wasn’t for the Glazers, SAF would be out in the market writing huge checks and competing with Shitty and the Virus all the way. I don’t believe that’s true. And to be honest, I wouldn’t want it to be true. Let’s bring the youngsters through, supported by the occasional imported player, as Sir Alex sees fit. It may be a bumpier road, but it’ll be more rewarding in the end.

I don’t think our squad needs much. Replacing VDS is the obvious priority. Beyond that, Sir Alex needs to manage the transition of Scholes and Giggs easing out and the young lads easing in. He can’t do much about the timing of that, so the question is, how will he deal with the consequences of that timing? He is closer to that, and understands it far better than any of us will.

There are only two things that I’m absolutely certain about:

    1. Sir Alex won’t buy anyone unless he thinks it is the right person for whatever purpose he has identified.
    2. Even then, Sir Alex won’t buy anyone unless he thinks the price is fair.

  105. denton davey says:

StateSideAussie @ 13:44: “Sir Alex won’t buy anyone unless he thinks the price is fair.”

Disagree. His purchases of Keane, Ruud, Veron, WayneBoy, OwenHargreaves, and Dimmy all contradict this claim. SAF will splash-the-cash when – and if – he thinks the guy-in-questions is the proverbial “last piece of the puzzle”. What he has rarely done is to work the market in a scatter-gun approach that ManShitty and TheVirus have employed – the closest he has come to that was when he stunned everyone at the opening of the transfer window four years ago and announced that Owen Hargeaves, Nani, and Anderson were all UTD players.

The man has a plan – and he only deviates from his long/medium term approach when he has identified someone who is not only special but also a good fit for his current team – the kind of purchase that will raise the whole team’s level of play.

So, while I would love to see Daniele De Rossi or Wesley Sneijder brought in to complement the current squad, that’s just my opinion (and we all know what that’s worth !). Besides, it-takes-two-to-tango and we’ve seen players and players’ agents make goo-goo eyes at UTD, only because they are bargaining and see UTD as a bargaining chip.

My guess is that it was last summer when SAF and his team of assistants identified their possible and probable targets for this transfer window and have been doing due diligence checking and cross-checking on these guys during this year’s matches. I also believe that, if the recent history of UTD-transfers is anything to go by, we will get a sensational announcement of incoming players at the opening of the transfer window/end of May. The only fly-in-that-ointment would be if a player (e.g., Dimmy) has been identified as the proverbial last-piece-in-the-puzzle and there are protracted negotiations with a difficult seller who is willing to wait ’til the midnight hour to extract the last quid from the bargain. Otherwise, I am reasonably certain that UTD will set a price on a player and if the other side tries to gazzump the deal then UTD will just walk away – that’s apparently what happened iwth Douglas Costa last summer.

Finally, I think that because the risks in bringing in untested youngsters is so great that UTD would probably be willing to be an accomplice in third-party transfers whereby TheKid moves from his Brazilian or Argentine club to, say, Benfica or Sporting Lisbon for a couple of years for X because a deal is in place (an option to buy) for TheKid to be sold on to UTD for 2X. I have a suspicion that something like this has happened with the Bebe transfer – it’s a stalking-horse for something else since Mendes (the Portuguese super-agent) has a stable of promising youngsters who are being tested in the Portuguese league. Just supposing, like…..

  106. Clint-IamYourPapii says:

ok we are not broke :D

what i meant was that we cannot risk splashing £20 mil plus on players that might be flops like veron especially when the football world is supposedly in recession.

Our debt is reduced yes, but our income ( commercial and matchday rev etc) has to fund the wages, marketing & advertising Plus those jew Debt !

Our debt is now around 400 or 500 and as a manager fergie has to manage the resources he has available and can only spend amounts on what he thinks to be exceptional players.

This is why i say we rule out fantasy buys Completely Because its looks very unlikely we could even compete with the wages stars are now offered.

we are not broke lol but we might aswell announce it because with flop buys like bebe and obertan, anderson. SAF is probably pissed why money was wasted on them and how scout judgements flopped. The glazers are unlikely to fund BIG moves looking at these garbage players above.

10/30 mill spent on berba was wasted ( we was ripped off on berba deal, he was worth 20 tops fergies orignal offer and we should not have re-negotiated when they said no)

Lol Berba 30 mill = rooney 28 mill ……..crazy world we live in also
    torres 50 mill = 1 goal vs chico £6 mill = 19 goals

  107. denton davey says:

    Me, again.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2011/apr/26/the-question-man-utd-goals-rooney

The comments – I’m only on the first page ! – are interesting, too. But ignore the trolls.

  108. godpye says:

Since this has morphed into an occasional Gibson/Twatting thread – did anyone see that the United-hating, smug, smart-fart Arsehole Piers Morgan is amazed about Rooney…

Morgan Twatted: “Amazed @Wazzaroon08 hasn’t been suspended from Twitter yet – for repeated fouling of basic grammar & spelling.”

The cocky cunt even offered to help Roo with his English, Twatting: “My pleasure Wayne. Look upon me as your new literary coach.”

Wayne sarcastically replied: “Yes sir thank YOU for correcting me.”

The Arsehole replied: “No need to call me ‘sir’ – ‘Mr Morgan’ is fine.”

Then: “Going well, already got Rooney grovelling at my corrections and calling me ‘sir’.”

He is obviously still bitter because his Arshole friends keep losing and losing and losing and losi..

  109. redbob says:

He is not what we need.
I dont think he is much better than Anderson drifting the ball forward and
    Carrick spreading easy passes around.

To be honest, I cant see us spending more this summer than the last 2.
One GK should be bought, and am I the only one who want more backup
on the wings. I dont know if Obertan and Bebe have got what it takes and
when Nani and/or Valencia are injured/out of form
we are often lacking creativity / spark..
Thankfully Nani stepped up and kept steady when Valencia was injured

  110. King Eric says:

godpye – Some one needs to hammer that cunt Morgan in the face. Smash his fucking face in. I hate the smug, eton toff, public schoolboy , take it up the shitter bastard with a passion. Fucking mug.

  111. willierednut says:

I wouldn’t include Keane in your list denton.

  112. godpye says:

God bless you King Eric – my thoughts exactly, he is a smug bastard!

  113. denton davey says:

WillieRedNut @ 15:05: “I wouldn’t include Keane in your list denton.”

Why not ? wasn’t Roy the most expensive player in the EPL back in the day ?

  114. willierednut says:

He was a bargain Denton! He didn’t overpay for him. He probably did, with the other players you mentioned.

  115. Zibbie says:

    @Denton Davey thanks great read!!!
“Rooney has proportionally been directly involved in as many goals this season as he was last: last season he played 2,723 minutes in the Premier League, scoring 26 goals and claiming three assists. This season, in 1,950 minutes, he has scored 10 and made 11 assists. To put it another way, he scored or assisted a goal every 93 minutes and 54 seconds last season and every 92 minutes and 52 seconds this.”

  116. StatesideAussie says:

Denton … I didn’t say SAF that doesn’t splash the cash. What I said was that he won’t pay more than what he considers a fair price for the player in question. Keane, Ruud, Veron, Rooney, Hargreaves and Dimmy were all expensive, but I’ve heard nothing to suggest that SAF thinks he paid more than they were worth. You might think he did, and I might think he did, and in retrospect he might even agree in a couple of cases. But I’ve heard nothing to suggest that at the time he bought each one, he felt he was paying more than that player was worth. And I think that’s what he means when he talks about “value in the market” — it’s not about prices in an absolute sense, and it doesn’t necessarily mean “buying cheap”. It just means that they decide what they think a player is worth (which might be a lot) and won’t pay above that.

In fact, the example you provided about Douglas Costa basically supports what I’m saying: United made up their minds on what they thought was a fair price (which was probably a range) and when it went above that (for whatever reason), they walked away.

The example of Dimmy might also have gone that way — I still haven’t figured out exactly what happened in that case, but as I understand it, Levy was prepared to sell The Berb to Shitty for 25 or 30m, but would have tried to extract more from United (whom he hates), but then got caught at the last minute, when the only offer on the table was from us and there was no time left to shaft us using Shitty. But in any event, I can’t see that the 30 million would have been wildly outside the range that United had set for themselves, based on what they could afford and what they thought he was worth.

  117. willierednut says:

City offered 32 million for Berbatov. We were only prepared to pay 25 million, but of course City got involved and the manager didn’t want to lose face to the bitters. The manager even picked him up at the airport!

  118. denton davey says:

StateSideAussie @ 16:36 – I don’t dispute the point you make in the first paragraph about “absolute” and “relative” player-prices but you have to admit that a “fair price” is in the eye of the beholder and SAF has often set his eyes on the prize and has been fortunate that he has not had to back out of many transfers because he’s been out-muscled by someone with a bottomless pot of money. OK maybe, he was out-muscled by the RentBoyz for Essien, Robben and Obi Mikel but not many others – even the David Villa non-transfer was more about the player’s wish to stay in Spain than the fact that Barca offered more than UTD. So, a “fair price” is very much in the eye of the seller and buyer – if there’s no agreement about “fairness” then no deal will get done. I’d agree with that. After all, there are other fish in the sea.

  119. pgkhairule says:

sneijder is a great player but to me,wazza can play in that position too.his passes were superbly done.my opinion is we can just put chica and owen (berba) up front,in the middle rooney, carrick.on the flank nani, valencia.congrats to our team by the way.scholesy was great either.love u scholes!!! ;)

  120. wakey says:

    @Devil310

Its not speculation. Marca (aka the Real mouth piece) confirmed it and Inter confirmed they had a bid turned down

    @willierednut & King Eric

The most important thing that those pulling the “We are broke” argument need to remember is that cash balance the club has. If we were broke there is no way they would be sitting with all that cash in the bank as bank interest rates are poor

    Either it would

    a) Be taken out as dividends for the Glazers to invest elsewhere where it could make a good return

    OR

    b) They would have bought more of the Bonds back. They used some of the spare cash to buy a significant number of the bonds back so it would save the interest payments

There is ONE reason for keeping the money in the bank, this being its there to be spent on Players

    @denton davey

The thing is he felt those players were fair prices, just as he seemed to think when he bid 30mill + for Villa (We actually matched Barca’s bid apparently, it was Villa choice to turn us down) and Benzema and the 24mill he bid for Silva were value.

People all too often think that a fair price is a simple thing to determine but there are factors that we can never really understand as fans. You have the obvious current form factor but you also have potential, style (ie will it fit with United and the English league) and personality (will he fit in with the club/players). Only the team of SAF & Gill have all the information to really decide what is ‘fair’

  121. wakey says:

    @Clint-IamYourPapii

We have never been a club thats paid ‘high’ wages. The clubs always had a strict wage structure and stuck to it. The Glazers haven’t changed that one bit and they shouldn’t do. When you break wage structure the current squad will all want increases (COntracts can even include clauses which require their wages to be within a certain %) BUT you are then prone to mercinaries which you dont really want.

On your player list of hopeless players, you are a little harsh. Bebe last season was playing 2nd Division Portugese football, we snapped him up simply because others were sniffing around rather than give him a season to develop in the portugese 1st division. He has alot of raw talent and apart from the Crawley FA Cup tie (where pretty much all the players didnt turn up) his first team apperances have been fairly promising. He has also done fairly well in the reserves. On Anderson he has shown enough promise to deserve a bit more respect from you, injuries have hindered hsi progress but he has plenty of games under his belt where he has been amazing. Obertan is a little harder to justify as he was playing at a decent level of football but seems to be unable to make the step up from the reserves to the 1st team although last seasons pre season showed some signs so perhaps worth witholding judgement for one more season.

On Berba the deal was agreed at 24mill but we have Liverpool, The Sun and a Norweign United Fan Site to blame for the increase. If the fan site hadn’t posted the deal was done and then The Sun hadn’t reported it as an Official United site had reported it and if Liverpool hadn’t got Levys back up by using the media to tap up Robbie Keane thats what we would have paid as the deal was pretty much done. Too much time and effort however had been invested by United so there was no choice but to pay what Spurs wanted at that point

    @godpye

Piers is Twitters Grammar and Spelling Police. Its not just Rooney he spends time correcting but Rio, Alan Sugar, Lily Allen and many others. I could understand him doing so if it was a full blown article that these people were writting but its 140 charachters so grammer goes out of the window somewhat and its being typed in most cases on a mobile phone which isn’t the best for ensuring spellings are correct.

  122. wakey says:

    @StatesideAussie

What happened with Dimi was as follows

    1) FSW spent the end of the season mentioning he was after signing Robbie Keane in every interview

    2) Unsettled Keane and he asked to leave. Levy got pissed but was forced to let him go at a fairly cut price

    3) United approached Spurs and started negotioates to sign him

    4) Lots of press speculation but United officially denied any discussion were on going

    5) Levy was happy to negeotiate as we approached them and did it correctly

    6) Deal was agreed and just needed the final details worked out. Deal was in the region of 24mill

    7) A Unofficial Fan Site in Norway took a newspaper story saying the deal was done and wrote an article on it. The site had a simerlar look to the official United site

    8) The Sun the next day reported that Berba signing had been Officially announced by United via their Norweignen site (Which we didn’t have one and I don’t believe we even have one now)

    9) Levy saw the story and got pissed as he felt we were being no better than Liverpool. Demanded more

    10) Boths sides were playing chicken. No doubt the deal would have been done on deadline day at the 25-28mill mark. Too muchh time had been spent on the deal and other options were off the table so United were always going to do a deal

    11) City got all that money and bid over £30mill. Was no real choice but to match it
