We’ve all heard the rumours that Nemanja Vidic fancied a move to Barcelona last summer, but in an interview with one of our fanzines, Red News, the defender has given out a very confusing message.
Remember when Cristiano Ronaldo used to get asked if he was staying and he could never really make up his mind? You knew he was off in the summer, but it was always ‘Only God knows the future’ and ‘I am very happy at Manchester United’.
Sadly, we’ve got the same mixed messages from Vidic, with him talking about the uncertainty of his future in one year, to claiming at the least he will see out the two and a half years on his contract.
“You never know what is going to happen,” Vidic said. “I can’t say what is going to happen in one year, two years’ time. At the moment, I’m happy and I’m here. [Let’s] see what the club is going to say, what is going to be. I want to play well here and for the fans and everyone to be happy with me. To see that I give the right effort, give my best, give 100 per cent. That is important to me. What is going to happen in the future, no one knows. I definitely have 2½ years [left on my] contract here and I will stay here.”

Man Utd News 24/7

No player is bigger that the club. If Vida decides to ever move on, we’ll do just fine. We got over Ronaldo, didn’t we. However, I hope Vidic stays here. He’ll be a United legend one day
Saf wont let him go till he is ready to let him go and if he does he will have someone else lined up to replace him. I hope he stays tho coz hes a fucking monster!! and even if we didnt replace him, our defence would still piss on the scousers lol!!
Oh for Gods sake, not another saga
Follow Ronaldo’s footsteps n you’ll soon be forgotten… We’ve got the Johnny who will no doubt be the best defender very soon… So its not us who should think twice… Its Vida who should do that … Otherwise I hope he stays but it aint a must!
if he wants to go let him we can get shawcross we have first refusel on him that will be one more english man in the side
If, and i stress IF the rumours are true, i can only say this to Vida.
Bye.
We never die!
Could also be similar to Ronaldo as his form has dipped from last year.
I don’t think he’ll go this summer but more likely the one after. By then I think we’ll have a replacement already. SAF must be looking for another defender just for cover due to Rio struggling this year and Wes always picking up injuries.
Johnny will become first choice soon, just who stands next to him is the important question. I think stoke will struggle one year and like Seanmc said we’ll probably get Shawcross back.
If you dont want to read scotts post I can write you a much less worring one
Vidic said
“something something something else, want to play well here and for the fans and everyone to be happy with me. To see that I give the right effort, give my best, give 100 per cent. That is important to me.do dod od do blah blah, I definitely have 2½ years [left on my] contract here and I will stay here.”
If he is going to leave Id rather it happen soon
I dont think I could put up with 3 years of this like we all did with Ron
The issue is a little bit problematic. We can’t wait till the contract expires. If he doesn’t sign contract extention i’m afraid Glazers will try to sell him sonner rather than laterin order to make some money. That is the problem.
Anyway
“To see that I give the right effort, give my best, give 100 per cent. That is important to me.”
i am happy with that. He is not primadonna and i hope we won’t have another saga.
fucking hell its not even December
Sigh…it is definately hard to see someone with Vidic’s calibre not wanting to see out the rest of his playing career with Utd. But then again, one must remember that professional footall is what it is…a profession.
And like many professions, professionals do yearn for new challenges, new goals, new dreams. Footballers are no different imo. And just because ppl like Scott and the rest of the fans in this blog love Utd to bits and would give up an arm and a leg (and possibly our children =) ) in support of Utd, doesnt mean we should expect the same from its players =)
Not every one is a Giggs, a Scholes, a Gary and a Neville.
Sigh..I can only wish Vidic the best then if he does choose to leave and think best of him and for his immense contribution to the Utd cause all these years =)
Lets just pray we his possible exit wont be as acrimonious as Ronaldo’s or Ruud’s or Beck’s.
Darn…’a Gary and a Neville’…talk abt redundant remarks =(
Only last May Ronaldo was saying how happy he was at United and that his Real dream was over.
If Vidic wants to fuck off, let him fuck off.
It wouldn’t be a huge loss to be honest. If this had come out this time last year then I would have been devastated, but now? It’s no big deal.
hmmm, that sounds just like ronaldo, its uncanny…
I said this yesterday night, i repeat it again. Letting Pique go was a mistake. He is the best CB at the moment would have been more than capable of replcing vidic. That too we sold him for 5 million. He is worth atleast 20 million. His ability to carry the ball out of defence is amazing.Pique and evans would have been a great pairing for the future.
Barca’s centre backs could be Pique and Vidic next year. I really don’t know what to say about that.
Let him go. Simple as that. If you dont want to play for us, then dont. Simple.
I do like Vida but if he wants a move away in the summer I wouldn’t be too concerned. We have some talent at centre half and it’ll give move playing time to Jonny Evans.
He probably negotiates with United over a new contract at the moment, I think that he just wants more money.
For fuck sake. They are lucky to be playing for this great club. If they want to go, fuck them, let them go. Getting sick to death of this shit. -
Lets not jump the gun here guys…..
I know its annoying after all the transfer saga surrounding Ronaldo but lets just focus on the team as a whole at the moment. Words can be twisted and bent out of shape by the journos nowadays….
Lets give him the benefit of the doubt, we dont want to be turning our back on our players just because of a stupid story in the papers..lets wait until the summer and the world cup and then we’ll have a better idea of who stays and who goes…
Keep faith in the team in the meanwhile
@ King Eric
what’s it all about, mate ? you are matured enough to understand that players like Scholesy, Giggsy are only exceptions. Players have their life to live and not everything is connected with football.
it is very sad but it’s life. Players come and players go. You beleive ones are fully devoted but 90% of them aren’t.
@GHTT hi mate.. remember last time i asked how much you would take for Vidic, and you sort of said it’s unthinkable? Every fan would love it if Vidic stays here for a longer time, but if that doesnt happen, i can take it, maybe with another 80m.
Vidic is no Gary, Giggs, Scholes or even Philip Neville. Whoever comes and goes, Manchester United is Manchester United. the one song yOur Emily :p will always sing is Glory Glory
Let him go, soft twat. Under her thumb.
Let him fuck off to whereever he wants. And do it this summer so we get plenty of money.
as others have said, it is distressing that we sold Piqué for £5mil, especially when he scored last night!
letting Stam go was a shame, but it was my no means a nail in our coffin, if Vida wants to go, it will be a great shame, but he has served the club well over the years, and he is free to do what he likes
Has it occurred to anyone that this might be nothing more than posturing in the run up to New Year when we hand out new contracts/extensions?
I don’t know what all this “sunnier climes” bollocks is about, either. According to Wolfram Alpha, his boyhood town of Titovo Uzice is only a couple of degrees warmer than it is here!
Numquam moribimur. Johnny Evans, De Laet, Dodo etc. are all younger and desperate for a chance to impress. If we have to dip into the market (which we don’t) then we’ll find the right man, don’t you worry.
I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him going off in the summer time if he rejects a new contract offer. Then we’ll get the most amount of cash for him since his current contract doesn’t expire until 2012. I can also see Fergie letting him go that easily since he is very impressed with Jonny Evans.
But I do hope he’ll stay, he’s one of the best defenders in the world and is also lethal in the box when we get corners/free kicks. A player like him can choose to see out his career with us and be remembered as a legend in our history books, or he can move to Spain to satisfy his wife and wallet (lower taxes, stronger currency)
If I had to choose between Vidic and Rio I’d choose Vidic! Come on lad, don’t pull a Ronaldo…
if SAf let him go please not before his contract finish. we got nothing for him. at least a year is ok for evans to mature in his cb role.
To be honest, it sounds like he wants to stay if Sir Alex lets him. He intends to stay until his contract expires at least which is more than 2 years off. A little early to start worrying about that, isn’t it?
“I definitely have 2½ years [left on my] contract here and I will stay here.”
Wes Brown has found his form, playing amazing. and Evens oh me, what do i say…MIND BLOWING
Ritchie Da Laet is also thr. Corry Evans and cathcart are both also stars for the future. so leave if you want! but as long as your a red, i respect and love you! xD
i think he’s just taking about getting a new contract.
I am from Serbia and believe me – he’s going nowhere. He had repeated that for Serbian newspapers and TV numerous times.
If I had to speculate I would say that he is waiting for a extension of contract. That’s all.
if he wants to go we cant stop him… man utd never dies.. the only person we wouldnt want to leav the club is FERGIE.. he is man utd… HAIL FERGIE!!!!!!!!
I personally think he’ll stay for 2 or so years.
But if he does go, we got a number of defenders who can replace him. AND we can extort a lot of money from Real Madrid for him and make them look like a sucker again.
I’m also not convinced Real Madrid will want to pay THAT much for a cb. It’s not as good of an investment, if you look at it from the financial side of things, as he doesn’t score lots of goals. Unlike Sergio Ramos who thinks that he can score 30-odds goal every season. But then again, that’s probably why Ramos is still in the first 11.
he wont go
Great, another transfer saga for the media to blow out of all proportion again and discuss the ‘fall of the United empire’, blah blah blah.
we needed to get at least one other central defender in here anyway, what with rio’s age and recent injury problems. now we just need to get two more in here. heard a rumour about fergie’s interest in simon kjær from a recent ghtt post, which is great news:
http://www.imscouting.com/global_news_item.aspx?id=3547
but i also heard he a grew up a dipper supporter, wtf?!
it’s way too early to take this vidic journo bait just yet, i say. naturally we supporters don’t want to hear even a hint of vidic planning his exit, but this type of speculation can easily turn into a feeding frenzy of bitterness and negative comments. vidic has been brilliant for united, and we should wait for some further evidence before we start throwing him under the train, as they say.
i hated seeing jaap staam go as well, but united managed to get over it even though he still had many good years left in his career.
Utd are still in the driver’s seat, whatever Vidic is really thinking.
Either they can sell him at a profit.
Or
They can keep him for the duration of his contract – at which point he will be at the wrong side of 30.
Either way great as Vidic has been – he is not irreplaceable – and his form this season has only reaffirmed that idea in my head.
He just wants a better contract. I don’t see a problem here, Vidic is no Ronaldo, he is definately replacable…
I’m not sure whether he wants another contract or he wants to leave because of his wife wanting to leave. If he wants to leave then i wish him luck. I didn’t see him happy when we score goals. I wonder is he worried about his wife?
It´ll be a great shame if he decides to leave or has decided to leave. What I think was a large mistake was selling Pique. Seeing how the guy is performing.
I am not surprised, and you bring up a good point.
Vidic looks disinterested as did Ronaldo. He is not as committed as he once was. Watch him in the matches – he is easily beaten way too many times. I have mentioned this to one of my friends and they disagree, but look at his movements, facial expressions. All to similar.
I would sell vidic in the summer bring back Ryan Shawcross because we cant rely on ferdinand and evans when there is no phycial power about the side. and then let evans bed in more and then carthcart is ready to take over from ferdinand where we can sell him, but one of ferdinand or vidic should be sold because both are going down hill.
Everyone saying Vidic leaving wouldn’t be a big loss are kidding themselves.. I for one hope he stays. If he leaves it WOULD be a big loss but we are United and with SAF at the helm we’ll be fine. On a side not Shawcross isn’t good enough for Utd. JMHO.
I wouldn’t worry too much, I really think he is just trying to get more money when he does sign a new contract with us. This is the current practice employed by players and agents.
We will thank Vidic for his outstanding services and move on. The club will live forever, most players last only a lifetime and only a few remain in the minds & souls of generations to come. We all agree that even SAF will have to leave one day.
So: If we get good replacements why should we make a fuss of imminent departures?
ćao nemanja!
No player is bigger than the club, so if these vibes are correct we should be thinking about cashing in now. I am sure SAF is aware of the situation but unlike the Ronaldo saga we must replace Vidic with a quality player. We should also insure that:
1. we have that replacement lined up
2. we are willing to spend to get the right player
I’m not worried, and no one else seems to be either – it won’t be a saga simply because Vidic is no Ronaldo – he is a great defender for sure, but he is not the kind of player who is almost irreplaceable. Its much easier to find/produce a new vidic than it is to find/produce a new Ronaldo. This also means that clubs interested in him will not push for him as much as Real did for Ronaldo. So in this case, if they club makes it clear they don’t want to sell, the interested party is likely to back off and look for alternatives. So any way you look at it, in the case of Vida the club has way more room to maneuver than in Ronaldo’s case. Which means if we think we can replace him pretty well we might just cash in, if we think we can’t we just say no and make him at least see out his contract. In any case, like I said if things come to pass that he has to be sold because his contract’s running out and he won’t sign I don’t think anyone will be overly bothered. It won’t be ideal but it won’t a change as massive as that of Ronaldo leaving.
Vida will probably play today. Give the guy some respect.
Brilliant defender, but if he does harbour ideas of a move, fuck it. We don’t keep players against their will.
Fergie doesn’t waste time appeasing personalities. It isn’t anything personal against Nemanja. It applies to anybody in the side.
King Eric Said,November 25th, 2009 @12:28 For fuck sake. They are lucky to be playing for this great club. If they want to go, fuck them, let them go. Getting sick to death of this shit.
Couldn’t agree more. Spot on.
Vidic has 2 years left on his contract at the end of this season. At the end of the following season he could be looking to leave on a Bosman. Fergie won’t allow that. If Fergie can find another solid CB, either in the PL or else in Europe, then Vidic will go after July 2010. The speculated fee of £30m seems excessive but if Barca and RM can be involved in bidding then that figure might be achieved. But frankly I can’t see Fergie being messed around as he was with CR. He’ll sign another top class prospect and Vidic will be on his way.
I just dont understand those players. Why go to big club when you are at the biggest club in the world???
Players just dont appreciate the chance to be in our club, or any other big club…
I also think that letting Pique was mistake. But on the other side, Vidic was also young and in the pair with Rio was great last season. Pique WANTED to get back to Barcelona, so he wouldnt stay that long like Vidic. The only thing is that we could sell him for much more. In that time, Vidic-Rio played already good, so SAF should sell someone, and that was Piq…
Deja Vu. But let’s remember, Vidic is no Ronaldo. It’d be a shame if there was double meaning behind these comments, he’s a vital player of our team, the rock of our defence when in top form. There’s been constant rumours linking him to spain, but I hope he’ll stay for another 3 years till we get the best out of him, even if he stays against his will. I have always thought he’ll see out his career with us. I guess we shouldn’t forget that the Giggs Nevilles and Scholes are a not a dying breed, but rather an extinct breed.
I dont mind if he wants to go, but on the other side, SAY IT HONESTLY! DONT SELL ME THAT CRAP! SAY WHY YOU WANNA GO, WHY YOU LIEING US?
“lets see what the club is going to say” I think he would be happy to stay as long as he signs the right deal. If he leaves then we move on like we always have.
Let him go to a ‘bigger’ club. We still have O’Shea
I am so glad that none of you people have anything to do with the day to day running of this club. One day he is the greatest defender on earth and the next you want him out the door. Personally I could care less what he says in public (usually you only get 1/4 of the story) as long as he gives 100% on the pitch. I don’t think you could find a bigger group of fickle fair-weather fans then you lot and that includes you Scott because there was only one reaction you were looking for with this “news story”.
