Tony Starks, that’s correct, although Andy Cole’s record is mostly from his Newcastle days. He got 34 goals the season they were promoted. If anything, he lost his rhythm when he first came at Manchester United. It took him 3 seasons to become a goal machine again.
Ruud was a fantastic scorer but he was in a side with Beckham, Keane, Scholes, Giggs and Veron. You can’t find any better service for any striker. But credit to him because he was a lethal finisher.
if i ever try to put together greatest united team from the players i’ve seen play, the one position i constantly struggle with is strikers. I think we’ve been blessed in that department and always struggle to pick just the two! Liverpoo have to crow about ladyboy getting fifty coz that is there only achievement this yr. They have all kinds of fantasy awards at Liverpool that actually mean very little. Torres won the “Most goals by a foreigner in his debut season” award if you remember. In the grand scheme of things it proves nothing, except that Liverpool are over reliant on the Spanish ladyboy.
Last season they won the “Team who lost less games and did the double over United” award. Let them have their false dawns while we keep on picking up the trophies.
Torres might have reached the 50 goal mark a lot sooner if he was playing for Utd. With a team as good as Utd he would have got more chances and more goals – he also would have 2 Premier League medals by now and who knows; maybe 2 European Cup medals as well! We might also have knocked the diving streak out of him by now!

Rudd is the best natural finisher i have ever seen play at united.at times didnt do much in the game but was on the scoresheet.didnt see much of cole but his goalscoring record at united wasnt as impressive as rudd.

Whether or not we bring someone in, I think we have the team to win the League. We haven’t done too badly (in relation to the rest of the high flyers) despite all the injuries. I worry about our keeper for the up and coming seasons, my heart goes out to VDS and his family, and I cant think for the life of me who the replacement will be. I beleive a Keeper with a commanding attitude is vital, Barthez, Bosnich, Howard, PIG and Foster are all good shot stoppers but one thing they dont do is control their defenders – thats why I have to go with a temp stopgap of Peruzzi.
Anyway returning to the topic in hand, how about a stat from someone in the know. How many Liverpool games played (with or without Torres) did it take for Torres to score his 50, and find out the same for Van Nistelroy and Cole (and I bet some others too). If Van Nistelrooy, Drogba etc had a game off every other game I’m sure they’d also be fresh to score quicker, shite I’d guess Tevez isn’t that far of the pace LOL.

He has been awfully injury prone since he came to Anfield – esp. after his first season where he scored 20+ league goals no? – so it takes time to settle in rhythm and get form back again from injury again and again.
