Anthony Martial has struggled to reach the great heights of last season, with the additions of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan meaning there are fewer places available in the forward line. He’s been given a bit of a kicking by the media, which, granted, hasn’t been helped by his manager.

By contrast, Leroy Sane has been raved about this season, by City fans and the press alike. He was also shortlisted for the PFA Young Player of the Year, something that Martial hasn’t enjoyed in either season in the Premier League.

But when comparing the performance of the two players in the league, stats suggest that Martial has contributed much more positively to United’s season than Sane has for City.

Despite over four hours more playing time, Sane has managed just one more goal than Martial and created just three more chances.

Martial has four more assists to his name and is more successful when taking players on.

Sane has a goal or assist every 244 minutes on the pitch whereas Martial has one every 119 minutes.
