STATS: Rooney and Social Media

Whether we like it or not, social media is impacting the world of football on a more regular basis – proven by the Advertising Standards Authority’s (AAS) decision to ban the Nike “#makeitcount” campaign on Twitter after Rooney’s recent “tweetvertisements”.

More and more people are concerned that footballers and celebs alike are cashing in on Twitter. But so what? At the end of the day if we could earn £20,000+ from sending a message with less than 140 characters we would.

There’s been a lot of talk this tournament about Rooney and his unavailability for the first two games. Despite his slightly sub-par performance, Tuesday night saw his return with him justifying his selection and scoring the only goal of the game as England topped group D.

So what with Wazza and his social media activities? Here’s 5 facts about Wayne’s social media influence to impress your mates down the pub…

#1. Rooney has the second largest following on Twitter at Euro 2012 & the third largest in the world behind Kaka & Ronaldo.

#2. At Euro 2012 Wazza has increased his social reach by 311,000 (Twitter followers or Facebook likes) at an average rate of around 1,077 per hour.

#3. Rooney’s current social media following would fill Old Trafford for every Premier LEague game until midway through 2021/22 season.

#4. If every one of Wazza’ Twitter followers tweeted him at the same time, it would take him around 127 days to read them – let alone reply! As for Facebook? Try 264.

Claims United have 659 million+ ‘fans’ around the world is nonsense. However, claiming we have that ‘reach’ to the world based on Wazza and co. with all their affiliates and continued use of social media/general advertising is a different point altogether.

    Social media sucks dick……..Just saying

  2. bbabyj says:

That’s surprising. I don’t really see the point in following him. He is thick and boring.

  3. Mads says:

A post about the commercial use of social media, which is actually the commercial use of social media. is this the definition of irony?

  4. The WitchKing of Angmar says:

Ok so how does this affect the football being played on the pitch please.

  5. Marq says:

The media attention for Rooney is getting out of hand…

First Roy compared him to Pele

Now Saha says he is like Neo from Matrix

    What next? Zeus? Satan?

  6. kanchelskis says:

    @Cedars

So you don’t think commenting under a blog post is social media?

    @ WitchKing

I don’t think anyone’s claiming it does, not in this piece anyway.

But if you wanted to be pedantic … You’d say that Rooney’s social media engagement enhances the power of his brand. A strong personal brand tesselates well with a club with powerful marketing capacity (Utd) and can in turn help to strengthen United’s brand. The strengthening of United’s brand, in part driven by the social media engagement of its most prominent players, helps to increase global commercial revenue. Increase in revenue means potentially more money in the transfer kitty. More money spent on players means more quality on the pitch.

  7. Costas says:

  8. bayoRed says:

Rooney’s brand doesn’t grow on its own, takes the club with him ALL (ok almost) Rooney followers follow him for United.

  9. bayoRed says:

It would be interesting to find out what happens to these stats when players change clubs. Like if Rooney moved to City. Coz I for one would look for the dislike button and unfollow him.

  10. Red Indian says:

    @Cedars –

Blogs are generally considered part of social media. Quite obviously we love blogs! :D

  11. markynorbs says:

Social media is still in its youth and will only get bigger? The world is evolving And so is the beautiful game. For the better, probably not?

  12. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

I don’t have a twitter account and I’ve never even visited the webpage -I’ve only read twitter comments published in the press which has been unfortunately unavoidable. Good luck to Wayne, Rio and Joey fuckling Barton and whoever else published twoddle on twitter but I don’t give a hoot.

  13. TheCANTONA says:

Did U get pay for this kind of article, Scott??

  14. DarkDevil says:

referring to the stats about united’s worldwide following, obviously a number like 650 mill is outrageous but i dont think the actual figure is too far off.

I’m from Zimbabwe and united are huge here. I always see people wearing united shirts here even though many of them are knockoffs. And I know united are pretty huge in other african countries. Also take into consideration that united along with barca and real madrid are huge in asia. While barca and real are popular teams here, they aren’t as closely followed as english teams and of the english teams i would say united and liverfool are the most well supported.

Obviously chelski and arsenil are popular because of how many african players they have but i’d say the united following is quite a bit larger than those teams here. Even players like essien said they were united supporters growing up.

  15. Mikekelly12 says:

Twitter says Kagawa is in town due to have his medical tomorrow. Get on the “I’ve just seen Kagawa in my local off licence’ ship.

  16. Balaji Sivaraman says:

DarkDevil, The thing with that number is that it is completely variable. At least 50% of that 650 million follow Manchester United because it is the cool thing to do, not because they actually think the world of us by any means.

Now, I am not saying it is a bad thing. Those people who buy shirts regularly without even knowing our history contribute to a large part of our marketing success in this world. They are the one of the major reasons our marketing brand has grown so large in the past few years. However, they’re not always going to be there. As in, the moment we go through a long period without success, they’re going to look for greener pastures. I am not going to blame them. That is how they’re wired. They follow football because its fun and cool, not because they actually support a club with a fierce passion like we do. But I digress.

Only a relatively minor (when compared to the 650 million number) subset is going to composed of hardcore fanatics of United. People who live and die by the club. People who would watch United at the wee hours of the morning. People who would watch United even if we were relegated. This number is going to be substantially smaller. And if you talk to a certain hardcore section of football fans, they would say that these are the only kind of supporters that matters. They are the ones that actually care about the club.

Obviously, dismissing casual supporters is wrong. They do contribute to the commercial success of the club and that in turn contributes to our continuing on-field success. But also labeling them amongst the number that make up United’s fanbase can also skew the numbers since they’re not always going to be there.

On the other hand, you could say that for every 100,000 we lose to Barcelona and Real Madrid, 200,000 more casual fans from all over the world begin to follow United, so we lose more than we gain.

P.S: I know I had a point in there somewhere but it got lost amongst all the meandering bullshit. Move on!

  17. Jeet says:

    Kagawa!!!!!

  18. kanchelskis says:

Seedorf confirms he’s leaving Milan. Available on a free.

Whatever you do, don’t tell the Glazers!

  19. DarkDevil says:

Balaji, your possibly correct and maybe im interpreting you incorrectly but to me it seems like your saying that most of uniteds supporters are glory mongers. While obviously theres always going to be supporters like that i think its unfair to assume everyone is just there because united are successful.

Many of the people i’ve met who do not support united are fierce ABU’s. But i know just as many people who are fierce united supporters and i would definately categorise myself as a fanatic.

I’m lucky in that I can afford satelite tv so i catch all uniteds games and i watch all uniteds games. And i know of a lot of people who do the same. However obviously not everyone here can afford satelite tv and so those people may not watch every single game but they’ll keep up to date via newspapers etc. Just because they can’t watch every game doesn’t mean they’re support is any less important than yours or mine.

Yes, you and i are fanatics and I agree that there is a large number of ‘supporters’ just on the band wagon but i’d optomistically say that the number of loyal united supporters is larger.

  20. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

I just saw Kagawa boarding the 47 bus into town just as I was coming out of the off-licence.

  21. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Glazers read ROM on a daily basis. Issa’fack!

  22. markynorbs says:

I just saw Kagawa taking a piss up the Etihad stadium just as I was coming out of the off-licence.
    Good lad!

  23. Balaji Sivaraman says:

DarkDevil, That’s sort of what I was trying to say. That 650 million is made up of glory supporters who are going to jump ship the instant the shit hits the fan. However, while they are here, they do contribute to our commercial success. I am not saying that some fans in particular like that, but there are a lot like them who just won’t be considered as supporters of United.

  24. Fibes says:

Just seen Kagawa coming out of Superdrug – was looking through a kaleidoscope not watching where he was going and bumped into the passing lunchtime rush.

  25. Fibes says:

He’s heading towards the Arndale, just bought an ice cream from Ben’s Ices and is putting soy sauce on it

  26. wayne says:

A survey was done saying Utd have 660 mill fans worldwide so its no more nonsense than this thread and twitter
Depends on the definition of fan,imo enough come on here claiming to be Reds who are not

  27. Fibes says:

Has rounded up a group of slightly bewildered pensioners, he’s got them to chant ‘TURTLE POWER’ over and over, I think it’s directed towards the small lad in a city shirt

  28. markynorbs says:

Just seen Kagawa running down deansgate doing one two’s with Mick Hunkmall and Terry fucking Christian wearing United Wafuku clothing sing ooh aah Cantona!

  29. Atin says:

the 659 mill no. was based on 54000 people responding to an online survey on the united website. I took it. But I still dont understand how we came at that no. Not questioning the nos or anything, just saying that the methodology employed would be pretty robust to come up with a no. like that. Possibly also includes the TV viewership, Website hits from distinct IPs, etc, etc…!

  30. Atin says:

    http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Club-News/2012/Jun/sir-bobby-charlton-to-carry-olympic-torch.aspx

All Mancs can head to the torch relay to support the Big Man of United!!

  31. jigpig says:

“At the end of the day if we could earn £20,000+ from sending a message with less than 140 characters we would.”

Isn’t this morally wrong when half the world is starving?

  32. 16Legend says:

    RVP spotted in Manchester!!!

  33. AlphaRS says:

Who the feck cares if he’s advertising through his Twitter account? It’s his account and he can do what he wants. What’s the world coming to?

  34. wayne says:

Jigpig don’t think its morally wrong mate, its playing Twitter followers as mugs but all the stars are doing it, advertisers will always find a way to cash in on sheep
KE that’s a good thing mate
If RVP has been spotted in Manchester it’ll have nothing to do with Utd

  35. Red Indian says:

Balaji – I agree with your sentiment that those fans will jump ship when shit hits the fan. I know some people who first jumped from United to chelsea to City to Chelsea again after they won the League.

Having said that, I know a lot more people who stay up at 1 am on workdays to watch us get killed by Newcastle 3-0. Maybe that’s because I only hang around people who follow football closely.

So what I’m trying to say is – while our marketing success does attract a lot of glory hunters – it also converts a large number of these glory hunters into fans. Most people who live outside the UK (including myself) and support a team from there were at some point, glory hunters – but changed by actually learning about the club.

And also, if our commercial team can make a fuck load of money by convincing stupid corporates to part with their money by telling them we have 659 million fans worldwide – I’d say do it!

I’m 100% sure that these companies benefit and that’s why they do sponsor us. Bharti Airtel took their sponsorship deal for United to Africa as well. There must be a reason they’ll spend money on United again, don’t you think?

  36. CedarsDevil says:

    King Eric

That is quite comforting news mate!!

  37. Red Indian says:

I of course meant City won the League and Chelsea won the CL, ughhh.. nevermind, let’s not talk about it!

  38. CedarsDevil says:

Jumping ship? Ya I know all about that, our very own Mike has a soft spot for City

  39. wayne says:

Talking about twitter and dumbing down of society, watching the weather channel and they have a Cop on telling people not to leave Pets,Kids or Granny in the car on hot days and drink lots of water
    Couldn’t make this shit up

  40. CedarsDevil says:

    wayne

Ha ha ha……..Cannot really blame them mate, society by enlarge is getting dumber by the minute!!

  41. Balaji Sivaraman says:

Indian Devil, Of course, I was by no means generalizing. Just pointing out that such numbers are going to be skewed because of the amount of glory hunters around these days.

  42. Cyril Sneer says:

If we’re going to have threads about Twitter followers, how about showing us how many followers someone like Michael Owen has lost since his time at United ended? That way we can see how much of his fanbase came from him as a person/player and how much was just from him being associated with United.

    *Begin self-promotion*

I do know that during the Euro tournament, my own Twitter followers have gone up by 3 (stil waiting on you Willie). Obviously this is down to my shameless pleas though you should all definitely be reading Agent of Fergie by now. It’s good for your soul/ego/sex life (delete as applicable).

Me? I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly… stupid.

  58. mikekelly12 says:

  67. Redbilly says:

  68. FletchTHEMAN says:

  69. WillieRedNut says:

    Kagawa-san! :D

  70. Cube says:

Love Wayne as a footballer, but why anyone would be interested in what comes from his mouth or keyboard is beyond me. I only follow people who I can gain some information and where I can learn something useful. But each to their own.

  71. CedarsDevil says:

Do not know him personally but for some reason I am in love with Kagawa!!

  72. CedarsDevil says:

Do we have a song for him yet?

  73. Brendan says:

The been down to the local bookie and done portugal to win the euros and city to win the league again, dead cert…

  74. CedarsDevil says:

    Brendan

What is a ‘dead cert’ is that you are a dick of the highest order, do one and piss off mate, you are just a bitter cunt

  75. Cyril Sneer says:

I’ve been down to the local bookie and bet on Greece to win the euros and United to win the league again for the twentieth time, dead cert… ;)

    I thought it was good.

By the way I just saw him coming out of ladbrokes after putting a fiver each way on the Czechs.

  77. Utd4life says:

Nani and Ronaldo to tear those Czech’s apart. Come on Portugal!!!

  78. CedarsDevil says:

    Bobby Charlton’s combover

Sounds like a decent song………Radio Kagawa! Love it

  79. mikekelly12 says:

    Brendan Rogers
Wouldn’t you be better off sorting out that shit murdering cunt hole of a football team that you’ve just been duped into taking over rather than surfing the beautiful republik of mancunia…..you ugly cunt!

  80. CedarsDevil says:

Oh and I am all for the Czechs tonight

  81. Bobby Charlton's combover says:

Not my idea Cedars – I read it here a few days ago – was having a look but can’t find it.
    Whoever posted it own up.

  82. Henke17 says:

just seen Kagawa at Mulligans smashed off his rocker with Anderson. says he cant wait to dance to the stone roses in Mojos later on after Anderson’s treated him to non stop food at Bem Brasil. Settling in well.

Brilliant suggestion for Kagawa’s chant. To the melody of Queen’s Radio Ga Ga: “All we need is Shinji Kagawa” *clap clap* “Shinji Kagawa” *clap clap* and so on.

  84. mikekelly12 says:

Love the Kagawa chant. Let’s hope the boy listens to Queen.

  93. Cyril Sneer says:

I want to play the song game too!

    If I were Kagawa,
I’d score goals in the morning
I’d score goals in the evening
    all over this land

    I’d score against the Toon
    I’d score against the Rentboys
I’d score against the Arse and Spuds
    the Bitters and the Dippers
    all over this land

  94. Mikekelly12 says:

    Cyril
    Genius!

  95. CedarsDevil says:

    Mike

    That sounds epic mate

  96. Cyril Sneer says:

Mike – thank you, just my little suggestion cos I’m not really a Queen fan…

It works with any 3 syllables (If I were Valencia, If I were Hernandez, If I were a Wazza) and you can substitute ‘score goals’ with ‘make goals’ or ‘create goals’ as you please.

Now you’re in the singing section I’ll expect to hear a few choruses next season. ;)

  97. WillieRedNut says:

    Nani, Ronado goal! 8)

  98. Mikekelly12 says:

    Cedars
Is anklebiter contactable on his phone mate. He doesn’t know he’s moved yet! Haha!!

I had a Kagawa song a few threads back. Can’t remember it all. Was to the tune of ‘should I stay or should I go’ went something like..
Shinji play or Shinji go know,
Shinji play there will be trouble,
Shinji play then he’ll score double!
So come on and let me know,
Shinji play and run the show.

  99. Fred says:

    Riveting stats, Chris, just riveting.

Ronnie and Nani back in action tonight. 8) Call me crazy but I think Portugal could win this thing.

  100. CedarsDevil says:

    Mike

Not sure mate, have not been in touch with the bugger since his flight

  101. Fred says:

Radio Kagawa chant is class – best United chant for many a year. Kudos to whoever came up with it. :)

  102. FletchTHEMAN says:

Some lads are posting pics on twitter of Kagawa on his way to medical.
Can’t tell if they are real or fabricated. But seems to be a buz on. Guess we can all stay tuned.

  106. Fred says:

Fletch – don’t be shy, re-post the pics here!

  107. Fred says:

Mike – I’m not expecting a thrashing my any means. 2-0 or 2-1 imo.

  108. Fred says:

    (BY any means)

  109. CedarsDevil says:

Fucking cunting mosquitoes, little fuckers are so intelligent its unreal……….Blood sucking vermin cunting bollocks……..

  110. Fred says:

LOL that picture of Neville

  111. CedarsDevil says:

I will be against the tide it seems, I am all for the Czechs tonight

  112. Fred says:

Willie – maybe Twitter’s servers couldn’t handle the excitement generated by the Kagawa pics and have gone into meltdown.

  113. JC says:

CR7 vs Cech, I think I’ve seen this one before… Lol any go Portugal hope Nani scores a brace and Ronnie doesn’t miss any pens…

  114. Mikekelly12 says:

    Fletch
He arrives tomorrow morning apparently so reckon they’re having a buzz. Good pic of nev! Quality!

  115. United Till I Die says:

    Easy Rom.

Nice chant, but isn’t it one syllable too many? “Radio Gawa” “Who-is-Ka Gawa” etc. Depending on his ability to adapt he could shut everybody up before Christmas, wouldn’t be surprised.

Will Ronaldo prove he’s the best player in the world this year? Nani’s growing into the tournament, so hopefully he’ll reach the semi’s and put in a performance to finally beat Spain. Germany v Portugal would be a fair final and Nani’s got a bit of form…

  116. WillieRedNut says:

    Fred – Haha!

  117. CedarsDevil says:

Apologies for our Portuguesepricess but I really want them out tonight………Come ON you Czech beauties!! Bearing in mind that every team (apart from Greece) that I have supported so far have gone out!!

  118. Fred says:

Cedars still hating on Portugal!

  119. United Till I Die says:

@Bobby Charlton’s Comb Over, thats the one! “Shinji Kagawa”. Straight to the point.

  120. Fred says:

Hahaha Cedars! May your hatred of Portugal continue. ;)

  121. WillieRedNut says:

Now Ronaldo’s turned up in this Euros, Portugal can win it. My pennies still on Germany, but it’s wide open for me. Little luck here, or there is helpful too.

  122. CedarsDevil says:

    Freddy Fred the Red

Bring it on mate, nothing better than a bit of rivalry!! Milan Baros to bang a brace!! Come ON

  123. CedarsDevil says:

I feel for Nani after being knocked out tonight

  124. Fred says:

Willie – I agree that it’s wide open. I think Portugal will pick Spain off in the next round (that’s if France don’t do it first) YHIHF!

Cedars – LOL I love it. It’s going to be just like the Portugal-Holland match. ;)

  125. CedarsDevil says:

Like the Holland match? Bollocks I tell ya………..Me Czech lads will do the business tonight

  126. Fred says:

Czechs will be bounced tonight I’m afraid.

  127. CedarsDevil says:

To the tune of ‘house of the rising sun’ by the Animals.
There is a boy in Old Trafford,
From the land of the rising sun,
He’s been the ruin of many a team,
And they call him the Kagawa-san

  130. Fred says:

    @Chris Jones

“Whether we like it or not, social media is impacting the world of football on a more regular basis…”

We don’t like it mate, nor do we like reading articles about it on this blog.

  131. Fred says:

Nice one Mike! The last line would fit better without the “the”, wouldn’t it? (And they call him Kagawa-san)

  132. Fred says:

Well by now I’m sure everyone knows that I’ve tipped Shinji for the PFA Player of the Year award in his debut season. I think he’ll surprise quite a few people – especially those numpties who believe the “shirt seller” crap.

Here’s that great video of all his Bundesliga goals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XWWVOV7LV0 The guy is unreal. 8)

  133. Fred says:

Willie – ahhh, thanks for the pic! Shinji’s coming home. 8)

  134. CedarsDevil says:

    Mike

You are on fire mate, that was a great tune…………Get IN Kagawa san……..Cannot wait to see him don the shirt

  135. CedarsDevil says:

Not to mention that Kagawa is gorgeous as fuck!

  136. FletchTHEMAN says:

Willie, that’s the one, cheers. He has a Japanesse passport in his hand but otherwise hard to tell the veracity of the story.

  137. Mikekelly12 says:

    Fred
Yeah mate it does. How about
Keep Kagawa in my heart, keep him scoring
Keep Kagawa in my heart, I pray
Keep Kagawa in my heart, keep him scoring,
Keep him scoring until Derby day
    Shinj Kagawa, Shinj Kagawa,
    Shinj Kagawa winning derby day!

  138. Mikekelly12 says:

Right you gorgeous people, time for football. Come on 2-1, need the cash!

Central Serous Retinopathy is a disease where fluid accumulates in the retina leaving a blister in my case which has caused the flash in my right eye

I went to Hospital today and the Dr was too eager to get me to have laser treatment

However Im stuck in two minds after talking to the wife and so obviously will have to seek a second opinion and a lot more information to gather since laser treatment can lead to a blind spot – have no idea what to do at the moment just confused for a change.

I am a little upset but its common in get this Asian men (me) Short sighted (me) and last of all Type A men who are stressed out (me)

Lucky me then – Obviously as everyone knows I’m not on the computer or tv at the moment and trying to change my lifestyle as much as possible, but the constant remains

I can’t live without any of you who have been more than friends to me – more like brothers and of course I can’t live without United equally

I hope it sorts itself out and then so under happy circumstances – as mentioned just a little bit out of sync today.

I will keep on posting but at the moment I intend to find answers to this and hopefully a happy resolution fully aware that it can go away and come back and also spread – so I hope that I can figure it out.

Never ever give up – it’s the nature of being United

  150. Fred says:

Martin Keown on commentary just referred to Ronaldo as Nani’s older brother. :?

Then says “Nani knows a thing or two about diving”

  151. WillieRedNut says:

MG – My problems don’t measure up to yours, but you have the RedNut’s best wishes. It really is tough carrying 9 inches in your pants. Nice problem though. ;)

  153. CedarsDevil says:

Martin Keown must be the ugliest football player I have ever seen

  154. CedarsDevil says:

  155. Dave Malaysia says:

@MG: Yo dude! Sorry to hear about yr eye.Hope u figure it out . Get well soon.

Stop looking at Hayley might help

All I can suggest is yoga eye exercises and there was someone from usa or euro who wrote a book about the eye exercises he used to beat his seriuos eye problem.

I heard of it many years ago, dun have any details, maybe someone here might know of it.

    Good Luck.

@Balaji: Thambi, good to see ur not using hate anymore . Sparrow and Barbosa and PenelopeCruz

will be back for the next movie installment.

  156. Mikekelly12 says:

    Cedars
I know you don’t mean that, Robbo wouldn’t allow it!
My mrs brother detests Keown! Always said if he ever met him he’d lay into him verbally both barrels. He worked on A Question of Sport for a while and the other night he admitted that after the show one afternoon they ended up in a lift together and he bottled it, didnt say a word! Went down in my estimations right there and then!

  157. WillieRedNut says:

Major disturbance’s on Twitter tonight? Unconfirmed reports are saying, a man form the Lebanon area is being sought in connection with the incident. He goes by the streetname of CedarsDevil. He was last seen running from Twitter HQ with a spanner and scewdriver in his hands.

  158. CedarsDevil says:

  166. Clint-Iamyourpapii says:

  167. Mikekelly12 says:

    2-1 I tell ya!!

  168. Fred says:

Come on Ronnie, getting closer son. 8)

  169. CedarsDevil says:

    2 – 1 to the Checks??

  170. CedarsDevil says:

    Checks??? Ha ha ha

  171. Fred says:

iced earth – Gannon sounds like a real scumbag. Respect to the other Liverpool fan who testified against him.

  172. Mikekelly12 says:

    Cedars
    The ginghams. No, 2-1 Portugal.

  173. Fred says:

The Checks? That’s us next season in that rank gingham shirt, isn’t it?

  174. ididnotzeeit says:

Can’t help but notice Mierelles (sp?) has opted for a similar “lost to the lawn mower” hairstyle that Lescott involuntarily rocks

  175. Fred says:

Flamini has been released by Milan. Rumours on Red Issue forum that we’re in for him. YHIHF!

  176. Vilhelm28 says:

    I sorta like Veloso.

  177. Fred says:

Vilhelm – He’s very handsome, I agree. Don’t like his new hairstyle though. I think he must go to the same barber as Meireles.

  178. Mikekelly12 says:

    Fred
Nor seen anything of him since he left arsenal. What’s he been upto?

  179. Mikekelly12 says:

Keown continues to get it wrong!

  180. Fred says:

Mike – from what I can gather he’s been a bit part player at Milan and missed the whole of last season due to a serious knee injury.

  181. Fred says:

    Ronnie bags! :D

  182. Fred says:

What a player he is. 8)

  183. WillieRedNut says:

Guess who turned up again?

  184. Mikekelly12 says:

Typical Ronnie goal there. Need the ‘checks’ to get one now and Nani to grab the winner!

  185. ididnotzeeit says:

Always rated Flamini at Arsenal tbh. Surely, anything’s better than Alex Song

  186. CedarsDevil says:

    Shit!!

  187. Fred says:

I can really see Portugal stifling the Spaniards and Ronnie nicking another header in the next game.

  188. Fred says:

Time for another goal here yet. 8)

  189. Fred says:

“The WitchKing of Angmar” Respect.

  190. Fred says:

    The Cedars curse continues!

  191. WillieRedNut says:

Me had Portugal to win 2 1…. ;) Should have just done Ron to score anytime and Portugal to win!

  192. JC says:

Oh me oh my, RONALDO!!!! What a header….

  193. iced earth says:

    veloso impressed me again
    i think nani did fine

  194. Fred says:

Willie – yep, the latter was a much better bet. Where’s Admin when you need him?

  195. Fred says:

Portugal winger Nani: “It was difficult game. Everyone was fantastic on the pitch and a great performance by the players. All the team is confident about the next game. Ronaldo scored the goal, we won the game and that is the most important thing.”

  196. portugueseprincess says:

    Portugalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll! lololol
    Now,come on Greece!!!!!!!!

  197. Fred says:

Let me just state unequivocally that the ONLY person I trust 100% for transfer news is The Fly.

  198. NotoriousRedDevil says:

Anyone watching it on BBC. You could tell the commentary team is still bitter at the Portuguese especially Ronaldo and Nani. Glad Portugal went through Czech Republik were poor and lucky to get through in the first place. Have a feeling France will do Spain, either way that semi final will be a cracking game.

  199. Fred says:

    Win it for Karagounis! 8)

  200. FletchTHEMAN says:

    PortuguesePrincess;
Congrats lass! Well played by Portugal and what a super strike from Ronie to seal the win.
But one question, Isn’t Ronie looking the lad, postmatch on BBC he was looking like he just got out of the showers with every hair in place not a blade of grass on his kit. Very sharp.
Actually think his English has improved as well.

Well done Ronie! CR7 IS THE MAN !!

  201. Fred says:

Fletch – I missed his interview but he spoke excellent English back in 2009. Here’s what he told the BBC tonight:

“We played well and create lot of chances, hitting the post but the priority was to go into the semi-final and we did that. The team is mature and we are ready for the next game. The last game I hit the post twice, again today but it was important that I scored and the team played very good and everyone is happy. Big smiles all round.”

  202. Fred says:

Congrats to Portuguese Princess and all Portuguese Reds! ;)

  203. denton davey says:

iced earth @ 21:50: “veloso impressed me again i think nani did fine”

Veloso (and Moutinho) seem to be late-bloomers. these two guys were “the next great thing” about four/five years ago but seem to have only come into their own now.

If Portugal had a proper centre forward then I’d think that they’d have a huge chance to win it all. Almeida had three great chances and fucked up each and every one. What a waste of space. And I won’t talk about Postiga.

  204. portugueseprincess says:

Thank you!!!!!!! So many people in England hating on Portugal its unbelievable….lolololololollolololol
But hey,we are in the semis :)

  205. iced earth says:

    denton dave
agree with you about Almeida&Postiga.but they have a great chance of wining euro even without a good cf,nani&cr7 will do the job
hope one of our players will be lifting the trophy i will support portugal and england for that, france will be cruched by spain, evra is not a starter anyway

  206. portugueseprincess says:

@Denton Davey, yes mate, lets not even talk about Postiga hahahhahahahhahah I was so happy when he got injured (sorry, but I did).

  207. iced earth says:

    fred
According to reports Manchester United are interested in two of the Greek side Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Vasilis Torosidis

  208. Fred says:

Are you sure one of the names wasn’t Karagounis?? :(

  209. Fred says:

Oh God, I just Googled them. Papadopoulos is that guy with the fat head!

  210. iced earth says:

    fred
Papadopoulos of shalke, fat head but interesting player
Vasilis Torosidis is a full back

  211. Fred says:

iced earth – most interesting thing to me is his fat head!

  212. WillieRedNut says:

    Fat head! :P

  213. Fred says:

If these fellas can keep Germany at bay tomorrow, Fergie might have no choice but to delve into the transfer war chest…

  214. Fred says:

I hope these rumours have come from a reputable source, like Twitter.

  215. Fred says:

Seaman, Keown, Le Saux, Parlour, Caniggia and McBride to turn out for non-league Wembley FC in their FA Cup games next season. :|

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18534739

The publicity stunt will be filmed for a TV documentary. Sounds like a recipe for a first round exit imo.

  216. Fred says:

LOL I just saw Ronnie’s interview. The interviewer says “Big smiles all round?” and he says “Of course. Big smiles and good musics!”

  217. FletchTHEMAN says:

MEN has an interesting interview with former Red Andy Ritchie. Looking back at his playing days and also looking at Danny Welbecks chances to kick on from his EUROs and make an impact next year. Comments are waste of space mostly.

That bitter prick martin keown couldn’t help himself. continuously rambling on and criticising nani with every opportunity he got. For example, a czech player slipped, nani took the ball fairly and whacked it at yet that cunt claimed it was “Controversial”. Unbelievable. Seems to have an issue with Ronaldo as wel.

  222. Harish says:

    Morning reds.

I am starting to like veloso . We could persuade genoa to sell him for 15 odd millions. He can be more useful while playing for club like Man united. He is a defensive Midfielder and he is the kind of player we need.

  223. JC says:

Nice info Sandeep, Tortas Ahogada looks absolutely delicious!

Btw I have an employee that is originally from Chennai who got me started watching IPL matches (CSK and Dhoni of course) earlier this year… Im pretty sure I dont understand cricket yet but it sure beats baseball lol.

  224. Jeet says:

    Morning, RoM.
Didn’t watch the match yesterday, but seems like Ronnie got back his mojo?

    For MG:

Take care, pal. I am sure you will battle through this in true United fashion. Good luck and godbless.

  225. Jeet says:

@Sandeep: Our Chicharito is fucking class….such a lovely lad, and sort of reinforces our faith in goodness in this age of mercenary cunts, doesn’t he?

  226. Sandeep1878 says:

    JC,

Enjoy the IPL mate, the games are pretty close and they are fixed as well ;)

    ##

    Jeet,

Best I go for Germany tonight then!!

  230. Jeet says:

But Cedars, does he have technique? ;)

  231. CedarsDevil says:

Not sure Jeet but he has panache !!

  232. Jeet says:

    Sell Hernandez, buy Nigella!

    Ganache for Panache!

  233. CedarsDevil says:

    RedHound

That is some seriously funny shit!

    Jeet

Kagawa with a great through ball to Hernandez and the Little Pea has won it!!

Eat shit you bitter fucks, we are getting out title back you fluky bastards

  237. RedHound says:

Dont know how true this is but apparently, “Kagawa said his new boss Sir Alex Ferguson had promised to use him behind a central striker in a 4-4-1-1 formation”, the major daily Asahi Shimbun reported.

Just thought i’d post it since we’ve been speculating on the much hyped formation change.

  238. xol says:

Dave Malaysia – Was the book you mentioned called “The Art Of Seeing”? I was going to recommend that to MG.

MG – ‘The Art of Seeing’ by Aldous Huxley http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Art_of_Seeing
The theory that eyes should be able to heal like other parts of the body do. It worked for him, Scientists were skeptical, he told them, “It’s not Science – it’s Art”. Not a bad writer either! Especially if you like Acid and Rollercoasters.

  239. CedarsDevil says:

Do not usually get over excited with new signings but for some reason this Kagawa lad has gone straight into my heart

  240. Jeet says:

A tourist hires a prostitute in Thailand and takes her to his hotel room.

“Ok, how much for a handjob?”

    “100 dollars”

    “That’s too expensive…come on!”

The prostitute grabs his hand takes him to the window and says “See that Porsche? That’s what I earned by giving handjobs”

    “That’s impressive…you know what, let’s have it!”

    Action. Heavenly.

“All right, that was great! Now how much for a blowjob?”

    “500 dollars”

    “Are you nuts?!! No way!”

Once again, the prostitute takes him near the window, shows him a gleaming restaurant and says, “That’s the restaurant I bought by giving blowjobs.’

    “Wow, ok, I’ll pay!”

Once again the prostitute lives up to her reputation.

The man says, “Ok, now how about the real thing?”

The prostitute takes him by the hand near the window, and points at the tallest skyscraper on the horizon. “That’s the skyscraper I could have bought if only I had a pussy…”

PS: Are we going off topic?

  241. RedHound says:

Hehe Neville, hide that badge boy!!

Seriously though the number of ABU’s who hate Neville has drastically(worryingly?) dropped since he became an unbiased pundit and england coach

  242. CedarsDevil says:

    Jeet

Ha ha ha……….The guy has been lady boyed!!!!

  243. Jeet says:

@xol: The mysticism that Huxley used to support the Bates method maybe crap, but those exercises are good…I know several doctors who prescribe those to patients with shortsightedness (without the mumbo jumbo of course). Essentially meant to strengthen the optic muscles.
