    crazy stats………

  2. Sujan Devil says:

Next batch coming through very soon.

  3. CedarsDevil says:

Wait, I thought Arsenal were the pioneers in bringing up and developing youth??!!!

  4. keegan4england says:

I wish we wouldve had ten men V Barca in the final last year. Seemed to work for Chelsea and Inter.

  5. Jeet says:

@Cedars: Continuing from the previous thread – if you spend 45 hrs drinking, i dont think there’s going to be a table large enough to hold your belly under it :)

  6. Busby babes says:

Keegan4england never mind m8 take joy in previous to chelsea exploits lastnite we we’re the last english side to put them out over 2 legs;-)

  7. Red Dave says:

Fuck the glazers, support the youth system. I would’nt like it if we just went out and bought stars all the time, much better to have faith in youth.

  8. Marq says:

Better to have youth of course. But we do need good players coming in as well. What we have always done well is integrate our youth players with established players. The balance has mostly been spot on

  9. phildo79 says:

That first stat sounds hugely impressive but how does it compare with other teams in the top division?

  10. Tasty Geezer says:

We don’t buy “Stars” . . . we make them!!!

  11. Busby babes says:

Bit off topic here, but always admired Michael Essien has a player and thought he would have been a perfect fit in United’s engine room, and to think he was here in 2000 did’nt he play in a friendly against Derby County for our youth, but the move did’nt come to fruitation due to problems with a work permit?

  12. Albert Ross says:

    Red Dave

Are the Glazers anti the youth system? That’s news to me!
Any references available for that info?

  13. Ugandan Red says:

Am seeing news of Gaitan being bought for 20 Million and Macheda + Fabio going on loan… Is this official or its just an agreed deal?

  14. Ugandan Red says:

Forgive me for being off topic in the post above

The way that I see it, we need more youth fro the UTD academy to be in the first team, it would be nice to see the first team with atleast 6 starters from the academy.

  15. mikekelly12 says:

Manchester United, built on youth and the unfaltering belief in their ability to play football. Just one of 1,934,236,421 reasons to support Manchester United and why I struggle to comprehend why anyone would choose to support city??

  16. lordrt says:

Utd’s youth system is a very good one, thou however we let go of many young lads to other clubs since fighting for a first place in the senior team is very hard, but yet we have lads like Welbeck, Evans, Amos and many others who have come up and been good for the team, with the likes of Scholes, Neville, and many other old boys.
However we all know as well that we cannot only rely on the youths, a mistake which arsenal often does, and of course some higher quality players need to be bought, like Rooney, Ronaldo among others, to help stabilize the squad and fight for titles.

  17. Jeet says:

Just got a stinker from the boss’s boss for something that was due yesterday – having a good mind to tell him to fuck off, we’re on a Red strike till Monday!!

  18. mancdub says:

If a national airline is paying £400m to put their name on city’s stadium, it must very special.
I can’t wait to see it.
    Is it made of gold???

  19. romeo says:

The hazard saga is well on its way! I found it strange fergie would comment on a transfer target. Unless of course a deal is already in place?

  20. Jeet says:

@mikekelly12 : I asked that question to a kid here who “supports” shitty. He said, “because they can’t be beaten”. I rest my case.

  21. Jeet says:

@romeo: I am pretty certain that Hazard’s not gonna happen. Remember Fergie’s comments about adam’s corners alone being worth 10 mil? All smoke and mirrors.

  22. Atin says:

jeet – on the flip side, remember his talk about De Gea in feb/mar last year?

  23. Redbilly says:

Mikekelly12- I can’t figure out why anyone would want to follow city either. Must be something in it?. Money maybe.

  24. bayoRed says:

We have promoted, Cleverley, Pogba, Danny, Evans and very soon we might have Tunni, Amos, De Laet & Fryers in the squad. We already have the twins and also strengthened with Smalling, Jones and De Gea so its time to strengthen the MIDDLE! Hazard and/or Erikson! Hazard seems to be very talented, is young enough, will have a good resale value if it comes to that and to me thats the type of player we want.
Keep Pogba and sign Eden Hazard!

  25. bayoRed says:

Anyone with news of the pre-season plans?

  26. Jeet says:

    @Atin:

True that, but that was :
    a) much later in the day after months of speculation and the world knew we were going to buy a GK, defo not before the window even opens
    b) SAF not saying “he’s a very good player” (he says that all the time for players we won’t buy, probably so that they don’t feel rejected LOL), but saying “we’ve pretty much got him on board”
    c) clearly in the aftermath of a lot of enjoyable champagne (probably Gaz’s testimonial, wasn’t it?)

I would be pretty happy if we get hazard, but like I said, I’d be surprised, also given that Rene is shooting his mouth off.

By the way, I hate to sound like a flavor-of-the-month transfer troll, but last weekend served to strenghten my belief held for 3 years now, that we would do absolutely no harm to ourselves by making a move for pubehead Fellaini. Exactly the sort of player we lack in midfield these days (I agree with Denton’s assessment there), exactly the sort who opposition players hate to see, and closest I am seeing to Fletcherinho in the PL these days. Versatile, steel, bite, can attack as well as defend ferociously, a bit of a cunt but the sort of cunt you want on your side. Wouldn’t mind rotating a bit as well – and don’t think he’s a prima donna, Moyes would have sorted that out all right. No idea if he’ll hack it in Europe, though I am sure he can play a 4-4-2, unlike some of the elegant continental trequartistas we hear of.

  27. Jeet says:

ohh…and just to piss on all football analysis, I just read on some forum that cabaye going to be bigger than scholes…

  28. xol says:

Didn’t realize the Wilf McGuinness era had so much emphasis on Youth (6 players bought and 20 Youth players). He’s a great bloke, met him years ago, not realizing who it was. His Son was telling me about how he wanted to follow in his Dad’s footsteps, he’d got his coaching badges and was working in the U.S on the soccer schools over there, if I remember rightly. Down to earth, modest and typical united. I felt a right plonker as nobody had told me about the UTD connections. Best wishes to Wilf and the family.

  29. Albert Ross says:

    Yoo hoo! Is Jeet here?

We’re from the next thread. We received a transmission. Hello …

  30. xol says:

    What’s the next thread about?

  31. kanchelskis says:

    @Jeet

Interesting idea. At his best, unplayable. And – like Fletch – has that big-game mentality.

Only 24 as well … best years to come.

  32. xol says:

    And do we beat City?

  33. Costas says:

Not as good as City’s though.

  34. Jeet says:

@Costas: Given that we stole Giggsy and Welbz from them, there has to be some truth in that ;)

@Albert Ross: In the previous thread – your lips moved, but I couldn’t hear what you said… :)

  35. Albert Ross says:

Jeet – I can’t explain you would not understand. This is not how I am.

When I was a child I had a fever. My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I’ve got that feeling once again. I can’t explain you would not understand
This is not how I am!

Aaaaaaaaaaah! I have become … comfortably numb.

  36. Albert Ross says:

xol – The next thread is being woven as we speak.

I wish not to embroider with yarns of games unplayed, they are immaterial until spun.
Clothe yourself in Red, secure in the knowledge that Sir Alex spins our thread.

  37. Jeet says:

@kanchelskis: I rate Fellaini way higher than, say, Rodwell. Not so much hype, and defo not pleasing to the eye, but wayy more effective if you ask me.

  38. T4M says:

  39. Sandeep1878 says:

and all that media talks is just about the La Masia and Liverpool academy..

    fuck all…

    Evening reds around the world..

it looks like a light year before kick off…

  40. Albert Ross says:

Michael Owen hopes to play another small role this season.

“I can’t imagine myself getting back and starting in the 11,” Owen told MUTV. “My mindset has got to be get myself ready mentally, physically and everything else because I might be needed for 10 or 20 minutes at a late stage of the season. Who knows? It could be the last game of the season at Sunderland.

“I might have built up enough, whether playing in a reserves game or two, and then that’s fine. But I think the immediate thing is to get myself mentally ready, just in case the manager says, ‘I’ll put you on the bench’ or whatever and I’ll come on for 15 minutes and try to nick a goal if we’re struggling.”

A good lad, is our Michael.

  41. Sandeep1878 says:

    Alberto Rossi,

    what up mate..still feeling numb?

  43. Sandeep1878 says:

Just read Piers Morgan and why he hates Sir Alex..

that cunt is a jealous bastard..he has no respect for Sir Alex, not that we expect from him, but its better if he shut up…

    Cunt

  44. wayne says:

Fellaini certainly tried his hardest to get noticed that’s for sure didn’t realize he’s still only 24,no question he has a nasty side
Good to see those stats on the youth system, why do posters have to bring the Glaziers into everything. If anything over the last 5 yrs Utd have increased the scouting system and have invested money in feeder clubs. Why some thick cunts can’t realize Glaziers stay away from all football matters is beyond me.
    Happy birthday STR

  45. MG says:

    Good Afternoon Manchester United!

    …in that case, just a little pin-prick… :)

  48. Sandeep1878 says:

    Alberto Rossi,

Catch you later pal…heading for a power nap..

    Willie

    Ha bloody ha! Brilliant

  55. WillieRedNut says:

Happy birthday StR! I think Kings birthday is today? Maybe KE could confirm it. Happy Bday to both!

    Cedars – Cheers pal! :)

  56. King Eric says:

    Willie – Ha. Superb.

Yes I like Fellaini BUT I have seen him be anonymous FAR too many times for a lad of his size. i loved him in his first season and thought we had missed a trick but not been as good since BUT Sunday he was fucking unplayable. I hasten to add in a more striker role though. No he is food for thought and his control and swivel and pass for the fourth was excellent.

  57. King Eric says:

Is it Kings’ birthday today? Shit . Haven’t wished him happy Birthday. How on earth did you know that Willie?

  58. King Eric says:

    Happy Birthday Scott.

Just texted Kings but don’t usualluy hear back till after 5. Will confirm in due course.

  59. CedarsDevil says:

Speaking of Everton players, do folk here remember Kevin Sheedy? Now he was a class act

    King Eric

Willie knows everything pal, at times its quite freaky!!

  60. WillieRedNut says:

King Eric – Really weird! I was checking threads from this time last year, and seen a post from me wishing Kings a happy birthday lol.

  61. CedarsDevil says:

Happy birthday Scott………….. Just sent Kings a text as well, hope Willie is right!!

  62. Shebangsthedrums says:

    Happy Birthday Scott and Kings!

  63. CedarsDevil says:

Its official, it is indeed Kings birthday………….

    Let the good wishes flow

  64. Albert Ross says:

Did you also find what you were looking for, WillieRedNut?

  65. Jeet says:

@KIng Eric: As was his finish for the other goal (second one, I think?). Curiously, that late run into the box and the finish reminded me of the one Fletch scored for us last year against them at Goodison in another heart-breaking 3-3 draw, which we conceded from 3-1 up.

  66. Albert Ross says:

    Happy Birthday Kings!

  67. Jeet says:

…and may I echo, “Happy Birthday Kings!”

  68. kanchelskis says:

Do I sense a Fellaini clique forming?

  69. Costas says:

    Happy Birthday Kings!

  70. WillieRedNut says:

Had a gander on bluemoon forum. They’re giddy with excitement! Their overconfidence could play into our hands.

Albert Ross – Yes I did!

  71. juan says:

On a very much different subject. What`s Gary Nev doing celebrating a Chelsea goal?

  72. WillieRedNut says:

Also talk of Mancini playing Ya Ya in an advanced role? After Fellaini give United all sorts of problems, it makes sense from their perspective. Really interested in what Fergie comes up with. Hurry hurry Monday!

  73. kanchelskis says:

    @juan

Don’t think he was celebrating it – just got caught up in the drama. Besides which, (correct me if I’m wrong) Gaz was never big on the whole United>England thing, and I think he generally wants English clubs in Europe to do well.

  74. kanchelskis says:

    @WRN

Not sure how fans’ overconfidence could play into our hands? Players maybe, but fans’?

  75. Albert Ross says:

The Football League have voted to introduce Financial Fair Play regulations in all three divisions starting next season. I don’t know the nitty-gritty, but let’s hope they have substance.

  76. AntiScouser says:

    @kanchelskis

Actually, G.Nev. stated in his autobiography (if I remember correctly) that England never did well in major tournaments because they never had a communal spirit. He said that the United players were all dyed-in-the-wool United fans and they never managed to get along with players from Liverpool who were jealous of their success.

But I do believe he wants English clubs to do well in Europe (except Liverpool probably).

  77. WillieRedNut says:

Kanchelskis – City fans overconfidence seeps through to their players. Looking at the way Hart was celebrating last week…

  78. Albert Ross says:

Seeping sewage from the cess-pools of city supporters could spread self-assurance, soon swelling swaggering soldiers of fortune’s fragile fame-filled fantasies forcing fully fledged failure.

  79. Redbilly says:

Well alll things have their advantages/ disadvantages . Our disadvantage I dropping points but the advantage is, should we win Monday . The feelings of dejection amongst bluemooners will be so so sweet. It’s a gamble but hey , the spice of life.

  80. CedarsDevil says:

    Ugandan Red

Those sure were some hot mamas!!

  81. Redbilly says:

I bet Jose is giving the old fox a few pointers for Monday -:)

  82. Redbilly says:

I love united and can’t understand why anyone would want to support any other team . Is that bias?.

  83. CedarsDevil says:

    Redbilly

That is bias and quite blind mate……..There are many other teams out there you can support, many have nicer kits actually

  84. Redbilly says:

Like the cit ey away strip :-)

  85. CedarsDevil says:

I had a soft spot for Everton’s pink away strip from last season!! ha ha

  86. dean says:

Lookis likely that Michael Owen is going to be involved with the reserves tomorrow night. Looking forward to the game. MUTV4THEWIN

  87. Redbilly says:

Cedars – red is the only one . Mind you , 19 stars atop the emblem would look classy :-)

  88. CedarsDevil says:

Thought about that, 19 stars would be a bit too much….Just the number 19 would do

  89. Albert Ross says:

I think it’s 1 star per 10 National titles that is the norm.

How many do city have, 3? That represents 30+ domestic titles.

  90. CedarsDevil says:

Always thought City had many more, of the moral kind of course

  91. Giles Oakley says:

Wayne @13.07, spot on my friend, spot on! Come on you Reds, in every sense!

  92. King Eric says:

Cedars – Hello mate. Certainly do remember Sheedy. Left winger. Quality player with Trevor Steven on the other flank. Loved that Everton side. Nev, Bailey, Ratcliffe, Mountfield, Stevens, Richardson, Sharp and so on.

  93. Albert Ross says:

city have many stars on the inside of their shirts signifying moral titles.
Near the bowels, so I’m told.

  94. Redbilly says:

    City.. stars.. classy :-)

  95. Giles Oakley says:

…also Happy Birthday to Kings and Scott!

  96. King Eric says:

Kings said he was gonna pop on and thank Willie for remembering at some point today.

  97. King Eric says:

Agreed with Juan I thought Nev was WAY over the top last night with that celebration. Come on Nev lad he is a fucking rentboy. Show them no respect whatsoever.

  98. CedarsDevil says:

    King Eric

They were a joy to watch, Southall was a great keeper….. Bastards did hammer us a few times as well!! I remember a 5 nil thrashing, not sure if it was in the League or the League Cup…Kendall was top notch

  99. WillieRedNut says:

    Cedars King Eric

The dogs of war tag was very apt for that Everton team! Pity they couldn’t play in Europe due to the Liverpool fans….

  100. Albert Ross says:

15:53 minus 16:11 is equal to 18 minutes.

A response time indicative of psychosis.

  101. Albert Ross says:

It took King Eric’s conviction at 15:53 on the Best thread to spark the 16:11 submission here.

  102. jeet says:

Are you sure? Albert Ross is probably the fake smartalex. Or are you the fake albert ross? Or are you somebody else pretending to be somebody else? With all of this, are you sure you aren’t imagining imposters? You know, too much stress and all that?

  103. Albert Ross says:

Some people think that Albert Ross is Smartalex.

What really has me stumped however, is why does Smartalex now think he’s Albert Ross?
    Perhaps he’s not himself.

  104. WillieRedNut says:

I used to be Joan of Ark in a former life…

  105. Albert Ross says:

    Did you take my lighter?

  106. CedarsDevil says:

    Willie

Spot on pal, pity that Everton side could not compete in Europe……They were a complete side

  107. King Eric says:

Oh come on people . Are you REALLY that blind to the fact Albert is smartalex? Its bloody obvious. Exactly the same style, intelligence and wordplay. Plus the fact he mentioned Neil Young to me the other day. It would take an imposter of epic proportions to keep this charade up.

  108. Albert Ross says:

Am I not epic? Oh dear.

Don’t worry, I shall epicure these gnarled talons. I will bring saga into the sagacious.

  109. Albert Ross says:

Young Neil, one day you will be King Eric to all that you survey in the Republik.

  110. FletchTHEMAN says:

Part of the problem in maintaining the 100% record in youth players in the side is just down to rule changes and really bad luck.

Rule changes: FA have imposed a rule that says academy lads must be from your area, and it is a small area as well. This means that we will see fewer Giggs and Rafaels. We will have to bring these lads in at Reserves level. Heard the rule has been amended, but the impact will be felt for many years. Just another rule that the FA impose here that Barca/Ajax/Bayern don’t have to deal with.

Bad luck. Fletcher would have been in that side at Arsenal and of course Scholes if he wasn’t semi retired. Then also we had just sold Gibbo, O’Shea and Wes Brown.

BTW: How many of you lads know that Darren Fletcher “Could” have been our youngest senior player ever, but the FA refused our request to allow him to play when he was 15. There is a rule that we can’t play lads who have not signed professional contracts and those only at 16. But Darren was good enough that United actually asked for an allowance. What we are missing in that lad. :(

  111. Albert Ross says:

Fan fare, and ugly, shall greet you fresh each day, as the paths of your epic journey are United.

  112. Costas says:

It doesn’t happen a lot nowdays, but one thing I loved about our academy is the fact that it allowed us to have players from England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in our team. At times we had a line up with a players from all 5 countries. How many teams could claim the same? Certainly no one from the top 6. Not saying that we can’t find top young players from other countries obviously. It’s just that lads from Britain and Ireland know what the club is about right from the start.

    @Fletch

Hi mate. I remember hearing about the Fletcher story. I believe Fergie wanted to give him a run out at VIlla Park on the finalk day of the 99-00 season. Such a pity they didn’t allow us to go through with it. He deserved to have that distinction. By the time he got through his injuries, it took him 3 years to make his full debut. Too many challenges has been thrown this guy’s way. And he’s not even 28 yet..

  113. WillieRedNut says:

Last night further enforced my opinion that Milan 89 to 94 is the best club side I’ve certainly seen. Man for man, you wouldn’t get much better. This Barcelona team are poor at the back. Conceding 2 goals against 10 men? They look uneasy when you run at them. The keeper is suspect too. Still a great team mind. Probably be the team to beat next season. Maybe now though, teams won’t be as fearful playing them. Fergie talked about the fear factor last year.

  114. Costas says:

    @willie

They were a top side, no doubt. It was a different time too. English sides weren’t in the thick of things like they are now. Not Real’s best years either. The European Cup has become very difficult to retain nowdays. United’s feat of reaching 2 consecutive finals is incredible in itself. As was Juve’s back in the 90s when they reached 3 finals in a row.

  115. FletchTHEMAN says:

Anyone loving the story lines from the Barca v Chaves match
    1. Barca Beaten by 5th place English side with only 10men.
    2. Beaten by Championship manager using Championship tactics.
    3. About as bad an “advertisement” for english game as could be imagined.
    4. Terry proving yet again why he should never captain england let alone my pub team.

    And the drum role please!
    5. Most enduring sound bite has Gary Neville mucking all over it. (claims he had a sore
    throat…..ahem

  116. Kings says:

Thank you very much to everyone for the birthday wishes and a special thank you to Willie for remembering xxx

Still waiting for a message from Johan Cruyff as he has the priviledge of sharing his birthday with me. Ha!

  117. juan says:

    @AntiScouser
    &kanchelskis

I should think that when you are a pundit on national telly, you have to show loyalty to the Englisgh clubs.

  118. FletchTHEMAN says:

    Kings, Cheers mate, Happy birthday.

  119. berbatunday says:

Happy birthday Kings! STR and Johan Cruyff haha

  120. carl@carlpritchard.orangehome.co.uk says:

Nobody on here has said anything about our 1994 side . What a team that was but for U.E,F.A. that team would have won champs lge loads of times compare that side to the shite we have now.

  121. Albert Ross says:

    carl@carlpritchard.orangehome.co.uk says:

You say our side is now shite, and haven’t won enough trophies.

What is the meaning of glory-hunter? Or is that not the same thing?
I doubt you are a glory hunter, but just thought I’d check.
Did you support United before Fergie’s time, or are you perhaps only used to our success?
    The ’94 side was special!

  122. Kings says:

    FletchTHEMAN/berbatunday – Thanks guys.

  123. Ian says:

Back on topic…. I read a couple of years ago that Utd’s youth team had produced more premiership players than any other club. At the time there were about 30 premiership players who’d come through the youth ranks. Villa was second with about 15. They may include players like Richardson who joined the youth team from other clubs but it just shows that the scouts can spot a good player even if he turns out to be not quite good enough to get right to the top, like Gibson, Frazer Campbell etc.
