Read a few comments about where the money has come from, and I have to say that in the past it was irrelevant. Man Utd might have spent all their own money to acheive success, but if everyone did the same then it would lead to the same team winning every time. Winning = prize money, glory supporters, TV time etc. The more you win, the more you get paid, the more you have to spend. To break this cycle needs money. Depending on how far down the order you are the more money you need. Before Roman with Chelsea, we were Champs League level, but only just. To get up to a regular CL level and prem winners took huge investment over a 3 year plan, topped up a few years later with a single year of high investment. City are trying to do the same thig but from a lower base. They weren't CL level, and so have to spend more to acheive the same results. This is what we're seeing. The spending patterns of United actually mirror that of Chelsea when related to success levels. A season of heavy spending followed by 1-3 years of success. Then somone sneaks a title for a season or two, United spend big again and get hold of another 1-3 seasons. Blackburn did it, Chelsea did it, Man United did it. Will Man City do it too? I think we just have to know that it cannot continue like this. Next year will be Man City's last big spending year before the new Financial Fair Play Rules hit. Then the game changes. Everthing has to move in cycles and Man City will have to contend with both United and Chelsea (plus a resurgeant Blackburn maybe?), along with the usual suspects of Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool. Good luck to everyone and may the competitions begin!

Its amazing how Shitty are up there with the spending. It just goes to show how Desperate they are. Interesting seeing Blackburn only spending 8mil seams an age now when Jack Walker took over.
At least though Jack Walker was a true and Lifelong Blackburn fan I'm not sure what Sheik Monsour wants with Shitty. Can't be much though with that total Idiot Comical Cook in Charge. ( Think it has something to do with Developing the area around Wastelands and that Super casino.) Theres talk of them upping the Capacity to 60 odd thousand yet they can't eaven fill the council house as it is. They'll keep making loss after loss season after season. Poor deluded souls. :D
Manchester is Red and Always will be.

Whist it's interesting to analyse club spending, and it's clear that big spending clubs can expect more success than those that cannot afford to spend, it's an extremely unreliable way to compare club spending successes or indeed the savvy of individual managers. There are simply too many factors which can affect a players' valuation, and what a club is expected to pay to secure thier services. Notwithstanding the huge increases in prices since the start of the Premier League which have far out paced general price inflation and which make year on year comparisons unreliable, the revenues generated by clubs in the top flight has increased markedly, thus increasing thier buying power with respect to say other European clubs. Given the vast amounts being spent by City and the huge transformation taking place there at a time when our club appears to be suffering financially, it is understandable why fans might be pre-occupied with spending. I think that United fans need to focus on the positives at our club which most other clubs can only dream about. In addition to our bulging trophy cabinet, we have a fantastic internationally renowed and recognised stadium, a fantastic fan base, a wonderful history including some of the best players ever to have played the game. We have argubly the best manager ever who remains as enthusiastic about the club and his players as ever and who is buidling another very exciting young team which could be successful for years to come. It's not all bad. I try not to be distracted by what happens at other clubs, even the noisy ones, and instead focus on United. I'd hate to support City or Chelsea - even now with the money it would be impossible to see past United.

This also shows that Arsenal are the only team to win the title without ever being the highest spenders. Proving it's got nothing to do with how much you spend its who you buy. The value of Man Uniteds youngsters if bought at their peak would be well in excess of £100m and so the reason why so many titles were won early on. Unfortunately after Chelsea (who for all intents and purpose are cheating) won the title everyone else is thinking that they must spend vast amounts to keep up. Again, Arsenal if not for the unfortunate injuries were very close to the top last season and only spent £10m. Now that the new rules are coming in it will be very interesting to see who actually can produce the best results with the players they have.

Danny - Yes, if we had of bought those players it would've cost big money, but they didn't cost anything, so what your point?
