But King Eric's all important winner v Newcastle in the 96 season all but killed the title race and helped us jump over 'castle for the title - don't forget Hughes was injured and Cole wasn't match fit then! What I'd love to know is quite what the SKY commentators in that clip are on about when they say Man Utd "have been struggling". I seem to remember you still challenging for the title and everything else that season. I've never seen your lot struggle in my 23-year lifetime, which you have completely dominated. Rooney is a special player. You have to admire us trying to sign him. I know it wasn't realistic and he was always going to pick Man Utd, but at least we tried. Only really Tottenham match us in chasing the Top Four in terms of ambition/support/profile in general; and we're the only team that could realistically match them - we just need a something to kick the whole merry thing off and end the big trophy drought. I think you'll be celebrating at least the title and the FA Cup come May, maybe even something else with some luck on your part! Good luck with your season - except for tomorrow. When all's said and done, that goal will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest goals scored by a united prodigy. Brilliant, no matter how many times you watch it. Simply sublime…to hit the ball that cleanly, at pace, with defenders around you.
