This blog has ceased being a place where a United fan can seek solace or get some reprieve.A solitary defeat and the garbage that is written on here is incredible.Too much doom and gloom, chastising the manager, abusing our very own players and the lot leaves a lot to be desired of Man Utd fans.In all fairness, the team has glaring deficiencies and some players underperformed yesterday but common toning down with a bit more constructive criticism does’nt hurt.Im not in the mood to dwell too much on that as i just feel sick. The defeat hurt but what was even worse was the content of the blog.
It has to be said that its about time Sir Alex brings back the hairdryer. Not slating players but Wazza,Nani and Evra are clearly resting on their laurels.About time they were made to sweat for a starting position if you ask me.I know its still early and Everton is one hell of a ground for us but it would be understandable being beaten after putting up a fight.A lack of commitment might see us droping crucial points and come the business end of the season they will come home to roost.
Andre Marriner really left me baffled yesterday. Its very true that Fellaini was a handful, but the mere fact that he goes unpunished each time he raised his elbow was hard to stomach.I could clearly see it not even two or three times and the only conclusion i could come up with was that he really needs to go to specsavers.Having said that,i reiterate my desire that i want a ruthlessness in front of goal.I hope Fulham will bear the brunt of our defeat when we play them.No more fluffing the lines, just passing the ball into the net is all i want.
    Gudday all

I guess no one agrees with my analysis of Rooney then. I suppose it is hard to take having a Steven Gerrard in the side but this is what Rooney is becoming. An imoveable object with more power than the reigning manager due to his comercial value and the media furor that surrounds him. I honestly feel that we need a striker that stays up the pitch. We have been fortunate by getting forwards who have the desire to work and Rooney is one of them, cant fault points for effort, but when the defence needs a quick release, the wingers someone to cross the ball into and the playmakers (or should I say those with the ability to pass) have no one to pass too. I even saw Rooney 3 times yesterday take the ball about 5meters outside the area tightly packed with Everton defenders look up and see no one to pass to. Knowing the frequency Rooney looses a ball in these possitions I suppose no one wanted to make a run because if the ball was lost it would be them getting the hair dryer and time on the bench for leaving their post. Rooney looked up and found no one to pass to, exactly the same problem as Cleverley, Kagawa and Nani had yesterday as Rooney was more often than not beckoning for the ball at his feet right beside them only to take it pass it straight back to them and turn and jog away to find space. I commend Rooney truely for his effort but Im starting to think he is a michael owen, a david beckham a steven gerrard. A player who has been told from a very early age in his proffessional career that he is the real deal and anyone brought in to be his mentor has not been listened to. This is an English phenomenon where people grow up too quickly and dont listen to their betters and those with the appropriate experience. Why should Rooney listen to Berbatov, Rooneys the star. Problem is when we sit on their 18 yard box trying to break down their defence as they themselves have learned by watching and playing us that absorbing pressure this way and choking the attack. Not by crunching tackles but by marking every single blade of grass then its almost impossible to break through you really need someone with a real imagination in 3d. Your typical hard man 2 dimensional player fails here. Berbatov was the key, the reason why we had success when Rooney and Berba played together. Yes it looks lethargic but its effective.
I do honestly believe we have come to te point where we have to say goodbye. Hes too big for the club, we are a football team not the galcticos. We have got rid before when players stopped listening and improving (Beckham, Van Nistelrooy) and its time to do it again.

  16. dannysoya LOVES USAIN BOLT says:

Goat i am honestly beginning to agree with you. Rooney is under NO PRESSURE to perform anymore. He’s the kingpin of the squad. He knows that he can’t be dropped by Fergie. God knows Berbatov would have played far better than he did yesterday. It’s only the first game of the season but man he looked a bit overweight. Anderson’s weight was just shocking.

Nice poem I enjoyed that. I thought when I clicked here we go, being a non believer, not such a fan of “modern” poetry keeping myself to Lawence, Yeats and Hardy. I thought here we go flat cap and whippet trying to be a scouser. (liverpool with its 10 million philosophers).
But it was nicely formated. The subject matter (god – creation . genesis) was obviously not my cup of tea as I am a mathematician physicist and dont believe, with my understanding that the bible was a book of “poems” “short stories” to guid people through life in a world where gentlemans magazines and mystic meg was yet to come to our aid, it is still a work of art which I appreciate. Those that appreciate the poem now are either from Manchester, have a tie to manchester or are forward thinkers. I enjoyed it but am also a conservative. No doubt had I been around in the turn of the century (1900) then I wouldnt have been too interested in Hardy, Yeats or Lawence, but I have an invested interest in that time period so I relate. As I said a nice poem, maybe it will help me relate more to Manchester and its people. Gets you thinking.

I see Rooney as wanting to run the show and be the pivot. The only problem is a team that employs a pivot and a focal point is the team that loses its way. Everyone on here would say what about Messi? Messi is not Barcas focal point, he is a highly skilled forward that works for the team and is the spear head of the attack. Their play focusses around the tackling of Busquets, the playmaking skills of Xavi, the robsonesque running of Iniesta couple with the devistating striking ability of pipo Inzaghi, the selfless ness of David Villa who is willing to give up the central role for the betterment of the TEAM.
At United we have Rooney the presser, Rooney the focus, Rooney the striker (not as much nowadays it seems) Rooney the defender, Rooney the ………………. Some players make others better, Rooney I feel steps on the toes of those around him. I dont doubt what he could be, I dont question his effort, but I do question his attitude, his true ambition, his ability to learn, his intelligence. Thats why I think its come to the end of the road. Fergie would be a fool not to pick up Kaka on the loan maybe even get Khedira and Kaka together for Rooney and free up space for Modric.

Honestly mate I’d lose faith in the club if they signed you. Look, there’s a reason why Rooney came back after the whole ambition gate, nay, there’s a reason why he was ALLOWED back after ambition gate, and that too with a fat paycheck. It’s because he is that good, and SAF sees him as a crucial component to the squad and it’s appeal worldover. Yes, he is an icon and a star, but since when is that a bad thing? Keep his attitude in check, and his mind focused and he’s as lethal as any.

I don’t understand you people and your constant scape-goating rooney, Yes he wasn’t at his best yesterday but so was the rest of the team. Remember it’s about 11 people’s effort not 1′s.

I have had an issue with Rooney and the ambitiongate fiasco and I have had an issue with Rooney and the prostitute even though having an extra marital relationship isnt illegal and all above board BUT my issue with Rooney is solely football. I have, as I have always said, no desire to worship the ground a modern footballer treads as I move in far better circles. I find the modern footballer (mainly the british ones – more so the english ones) a complete moron, void of any academic ability, void of any reasoning in what they say and are as people best suited to the biggest pass time of the unemployable there is. Rooneys play is unintelligent. Its as simple as that. For body strength 100%, top notch, work rate 100% couldnt fault a forward who tackles back and gets involved BUT he likes to come deep. Credit to him for that BUT he cant do short range passing, he doesnt always control the ball well, hes always in two minds – one as a striker the other as provider. He has no real defined role, now is that by design a decission of Sir Alex or is it Rooney I do wot i want. He is a jack of all trades, master of none. Alot come on here saying Ill change my tune later on when hes banging them in. Maybe I will, Im man eough to admit when Im wrong BUT he isnt going to score when pinching the ball off the toe of Cleverley 30 yards out. Hes not going to score when hes run back through midfield and taken the ball off the toe off the left back. Hes not going to score when he thinks hes the new Scholes. Replicating Paul Scholes on the pitch doesnt make you the new Paul Scholes, the player but more importantly the man Paul Scholes has very few betters if any at all.
If Rooney holds his discipline and stays in a possition to recieve the ball rather than coming to get it he is world class. When he comes looking he is Steven Gerrard.

  40. goatinaunitedshirt says:

    utd_fc
On another side of the coin you could say Rooney waited just long enough during ambitiongate to make sure the stock of Rooney shirts and other merchandise with his name on it was ready for the coming seasons sale BEFORE he took the piss. Glazers/Sir Alex were left in the knowledge that if the agreed to a sale as his wage demands were stupid (still are stupid) then the throw away of all that stock would have cost United more than caving into Rooneys requests.

I think we share a similar outlook in Rooney and the squad. His goal tally will mask the poor showing he’s served up for s while now.
It’s the shape of the team-injuries aside that worries the hell our of me.
Costas was bang on about current state of the defensive issues. The lack of it is causing s serious imbalance its shocking. Carrick moving back to CM will the God sent but that’s only half the problem solved.
Truth is he’s our xavi or lampard. Asking him to bear the defensive burden is unfair. In a 4232 formation he’d ideally play alongside a CDM and have a front 3 of kagawa/clevs ,the 2 wingers and one of the strikers up top. Hwll you could have Danny on the left. I thought he did well and read kagawas game much more than any if the other attackers.
Defensive platform is missing. While thats the case the attackers who still have to improve individually will struggle to show how good they can be as a unit.
I always look at it like putting all the tech and engineering of a super car into a ford mondeo and expecting to go just as fast and handle the same way.
Back room staff worries me a helluva lot as well but not sure how to begin with that to be honest

I appreciate your words. I am not homophobic despite the word usage of fag. fag, faggot or faggit is a word used to define homosexuals but is also a term used to label the weak and feeble. Like black is used to donate colour of a person but also that of a colour in no relation to a person or an emotion. Just because a word is used as a derogatory term we cannot simply ban it if it has multiple meanings. Thats just silly. My use of the word is weak and feeble not as a homophobic slur. So you have problems with his academics and his intelligence? What does that have to do with football? His extra marital affairs concern you how? I don’t understand this. Giggs did his whole scandal. It was way worse imo but that’s okay because he’s a red legend while the fat ugly scouser should get it up the arse right? WRONG. Rooney is our most valuable asset when he’s on form. The reason why he drops deep is because that’s what is required from him in his 10 role. We have no centermid who can dominate possession and boss the midfield around. We NEED players like him who work hard for the team and don’t shy away from doing their bit of defending too. By no means is he trying to be the next Scholes. If anything him dropping deeper towards the end of the game was Scholes’ own saving grace because he looked absolutely knackered and was totally out of breath. If it weren’t for Rooney we’d come off looking even worse.

You say that Rooney isn’t banging in the goals but once he does you’d be willing to change your tone about him? That sounds more than a tad bit hyprocitical mate. You don’t just decide to get behind the team or the players only when they’re winning, you stck w em through.

  54. goatinaunitedshirt says:

    utd_fc
    1. Rooney was dropping deep the netire 90 mins not just to save Scholes as you say.
    2. Is not hypocritical of me to say that as soon as hes banging in the goals Ill change my tune BECAUSE in order to bang in the goals he has to be in front of the f-ing net NOT playing deep. He played the lone striker with Wellbeck on the left, His job then is to stay up and be in a possition to recieve. Hes so unintelligent he cant change the way he plays even if the formation is changed.
    3. It is regarded as uncool to be eductaed in England amongst the elite of sportsmen because they have to be cool and street smart but by no means does education dampen your ability as a sportsman – far from it, it engages the brain and allows new ideas to flow, new neurons to be produced. The better footballers of the day are also eductating themselves. Look at north american sports ALL go through college, look at athletics most train in the US and go through college. Even spanish and Italian footballers are known to have some education. In england its better to be an asbo than an academic.
    3. His extra marital affairs do concern me because it reflects on the club, it reflects on the person and it reflects on his performances as his outside life isnt peacefull due to his doing. For example, a man going through an acrimoneous divorce has his head in another place, his work suffers, he gets the sack. Its all an effect on Manchester United and I am a United fan who cares about such things.
    4. I do have issues with any other player that does the same or similar things that then go on and effect the team. The Giggs issue Im not so clued up on. It happened when I was abroad and before I discovered RoM so I never got any depth of the story. So I cant judge.
    5. You say we dont have a dominant midfielder but how will any of our boys get to be that man if he is “bullied” in his possition by a man out of his own. How do we know if Cleverley or Kagawa isnt that man – we need a certain player to give them their chance.
Play the football you were told to play if others around you fail in their task the manager will deal with it either by buying in new or promoting another DONT do his job at the expense of your own.

This is a new attacking look for United and Rooney is still figuring his role out. He is not an immovable object but Ferguson knows that he needs game time to gel with his mates and achieve match fitness. His first touch needs work, yes. But you are way, way off in your jumps in logic. We have depended on Rooney because who else could we look to in years past? Who else had the passion? Who else wanted to be the talisman? If you think Rooney is content with a poor performance you are sadly mistaken. RvP and Kagawa will force Rooney out at times this season and it will do him a world of good. Jumping to hasty conclusions like “sell him” are why this blog annoys the hell out of me at times.

RvP will change things. It will take time. SAF, after the game, credited his players on playing well in attack and connecting fluidly. Sure, they have a ways to go — but your assessment continues to be completely off the mark.

Agree, especially on Kagawa. His movement was excellent in an attempt to receive a through ball that would break down the defence, or looking to make a similar pass only to be disappointed by either a back pass, or no one to pass to.

The 4-3-3 formation is a very versatile one. Last time we used it we had players like ronaldo rooney tevez all interchanging and switching positions as all were pretty versatile and quick. Very fun to watch. Except we don’t have the same midfield supporting us right now, especially an injury hit one. Anyways it been a while since we’ve done 4-3-3 and that too with pretty much a new team so it’ll take some time for them to figure it out right.

Rooney might not be the brightest bulb in the bin but he has a natural instinct about his play. He has a footballer’s brain.

Fine, as a concerned United fan you’re worried about our reputation, seeing as idiots like Cashley and Terry the cunt have had worse allegation hit on them, and successfully proven. But then as such a concerned United fan you should look up into the Giggs case too. I’d say he’s more an ambassador to United then Rooney. The guy’s been here for much longer than Rooney, he’s come up through our academy, and is one of our most decorated players. It’s not even that hard, just a quick google search, or any tabloid rag would have it covered i’m sure.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not lambasting Giggs or Rooney. What they did was their own problem and as long as it can be sorted out and not come onto the pitch then frankly I don’t give a rats ass. But that’s just me and everyone is different in their approach to their club and it’s representatives. I’m just saying be consistent in what you believe then. Don’t excuse Giggsy just because you were not that into ROM, infact ROM was quietest about it seeing as it is one of our own we’re talking about and we’re not gonna have a Giggsy bash-fest here now are we?

Kagawa and Cleverly are our midfield enforcers? AHahhaha mate you gotta be kidding me. Have you seen the size of those two? I’m sure the likes of tiote and toure shudder at our two big huge enforcers in the middle of the park.

And just for this reason did you ever think maybe the gaffer himself told Rooney to help out in midfield? Because that’s what happens in most games and if the gaffer had a problem with it I’m sure he’d have made him cut it out by now.
