Three More Years For Park

Whilst one of his best mates has left the club for local rivals Manchester City, Park Ji-Sung has confirmed his future is with United, after agreeing a three year contract extension.

The deal will keep him at the club until 2012 which will take him past his 31st birthday.

“Park and Manchester United have reached an agreement on a three-year deal,” Park’s agent Kim Jung-Soo said. “The contract will be effective through June 2012.”

    good news
a fantastic role model for the kids and a commited player
you can make better friends than tevez though three lung
how about a pillow with a smiley face on it?

  2. Dan says:

Fantastic – that should shore up about 30-40 million supporters in Korea for a few years.

Park’s a nice lad but seems to have deteriorated in terms of impact (from an already low starting point); being able to run a lot for 90 mins (or more often 60 mins) is not the hallmark of a great player.

Let’s hope he proves my scepticism wrong and bags a few more important goals in CL semis…

The lad must sell a hell of alot of credit cards in the far east? as he doesn’t warrant a 3 year deal with regards to his footballing ability or lack of. He was a CM in Holland with PSV when he caught the United scouts eye and did play quite well there but since we signed him and converted him into a defensive wide man he hasn’t really done much to warrant inclusion in the first XI in front of far more talented players. I like his endeavour and work rate but thats all he has, he doesn’t bring anything else to the table. It says alot when the guy behind you in defence has more attacking ability(Evra) than you.

  4. King Eric says:

Cue numerous posts of “he aint good enough” “he can’t cross” and “he is a marketing tool”. That is until he turns in a great performance a la Arsenal last season on Tuesday night.

    Great news.

Good news. He show us what commitment and loyalty is. He needs to improve his shooting and have a chance to score more. That will be good.

    jamos9,

Park may not be the best midfielders out there, but he’s not the worst. And hey, he does what he was told to do, and he does it with the right attitude. He never complains if he was put on the bench, he never poke around with the media and he is on very good terms with his teammates (esp Evra).

Sounds like a very good teamplayer to me. Far better than some who had left.

I’m a bit worried about the negative Park comments I see written above. If Park was there soley for a marketing tool he may have gone the way of Dong……..who lets face it was useless.

Park brings alot to the table in my opinion and plays regularly in a mid field that hasnt repeated a fielding in years. A midfield of constant rotation picked on the merits of the oposition we are playing that week. His running and defensive work along with his ability to draw and commit players is why he is at our great club. There are plenty of other ok asian players that united could sign and pay less in wages to market the club in asia but a commited deal for a great player has left this irish united fan delighted!

  8. Besher says:

He will earn 7.3 billion a year !!

  9. cantona7 says:

Park gives us options. Does anyone remember a few years a go, there were stories that SAF is interested in Gattuso? I guess Park is Gattuso’s replacement.

To be fair, Park is a lot better than other wingers and midfielders in the league, even in his weakest attribute (passing?). And he has among the longest battery life, if not the longest, in the league. So he is the best duracell in the league. But i dont think i would call him a dog, like i called a certain Argie.

  10. sanj says:

King Eric- spot on as usual. Where is RacistManUtdSlagger? Haven’t seen him in awhile- ah, nevermind. United is in good form. Guess he’s gone back into hiding.

  11. manutdchampions2008 says:

cantona7 park is possibly the worst wide player in europe I have no idea how he gt a new deal he is the most pointless player going. he should have been sold in the summer, the barca game said it all about how awful park is.

  12. jamos9 says:

I understand what some of the pro Park people are saying but for me as a winger he doesn’t do it. Maybe if deployed in the centre to break up play like he did at PSV yes….but on the wing no!! He cant cross…shoot….head…skin a player; all attributes a winger should aspire to have. At United through the years we have been blessed with skilled Wingmen with most of the above criteria and more. I dont like my Wingers to be proficient at defending as there are other players in the team that are assigned to do such a job, I agree they should track back and do some donkey work as it’s first and formost a team game but to be picked to defend when you should IMO be unsettling the opposing Fullback and creating assists and goals is not my view of a Winger!!

  13. sanj says:

there he is! good to see you back spewing your negativity. i’m glad david gill doesn’t sign players based on one poor performance. did you send in your resume yet? i’m sure david gill is getting nervous.

  14. Giles Oakley says:

Well said King Eric, as usual. Park never lets anyone down, reacts admirably to disappointment and just keeps on working for the team, which has paid off handsomely numerous times, not just against Arsenal in the Champs Lge but in other big games. He provides tactical options, including protecting either flank, in ways no-one else at the club can do and gets stuck in in the opposition’s own half, pinning them back. He’s a valuable squad player, well-liked in the dressing room, and United have done the right thing extending his contract. It’s unfair to him and to United to suggest it’s purely to hold on to supporters in the Far east. If it was that, we could have held on to Dong (ooh-er…)

  15. virgopq says:

simply put, Park scores as many goals as Tevev(striker), Nani, Fletcher, Anderson, Scholesy, Carrick . . . . . nid I add further???.

His assists is as gd as any other player in the Utd lineup. He came cheap but yet sells more than alot of the lads.

So, if u ask me what’s Park in Utd for, I’d tell u to head on back to the planet u’d just came fm!. R u bloody blind, stupid & naive to see what Fergie has & is still seein’!, Another lad tt got a bit of slack was Fletch!. . . & look @ how good he has become!.

So, on the pitch, Park is doin’ very well indeed & off the pitch, I’d like to believe tt he’s doin’ equally if not better!.

    Cheers!.

  16. King Eric says:

Sanj – You spoke too soon!! He has actually changed his attitude (surprisingly)!. Maybe not to Park but toward the rest of the team!

  17. sanj says:

King Eric- I have a sneaking suspicion that his attitude will revert to the old ways when United hit a rough patch…

  18. Jake says:

He’s improved markedly but still doesn’t possess any top-flight vision… He’s not good enough to be a United regular but factor in his good attitude, along the marketing potential and it’s a no-brainer, all aspects will certainly have been considered in this decision.

  19. manutdchampions2008 says:

    King Eric
lets get this straight I still say berbatov is not good enough along with many others. and united may do well but lets be real if united win the league its winning a poor premiership. the top 4 are propably at their weakest at the moment and the rest are slightly better. this is propably the weakest premiership I have ever seen because there is not an outstanding team, united will still need rebuilding like a new wide player a striker and still another CM, and there are still so many holes in this team. its not the team it was back in 94 99 00 and 08.

  21. Red1990 says:

He shoots he scores he eats your labrador! Ji Sung Park!

He is a good marketing tool in the far east, good attitude and will pop in with important goals such as Chelsea away last season and CL semi. A good buy, and a good 3 years extension
