Time To Stop The Music

As the players walk out on to the pitch at Old Trafford, music is blasted out of the tannoy which is reminiscent of something out of Gladiator. You almost expect lions to come racing out of the tunnel after the players!

There have been mutters of complaint about this for sometime, as it prevents the chanting from starting, as any sound from the crowd is totally drowned out by the deafening music.

SEF have got on to the club about this and have been told it will be discussed at the fans forum. If you would like to add weight to our bid to stop the insanely loud music to allow the fans to start chanting, then drop them an e-mail: executive.forum@manutd.co.uk, seasonticket.forum@manutd.co.uk, oneunited.forum.manutd.co.uk or branch.forum@manutd.co.uk.

Excellent example on that clip, you cant hear one fan chant or even yourself think for that matter and thats in a game against Arsenal.
If it wasnt for the fact that supporters paid money, they would have us replaced with a Highbury style painted mural and even more music.

Then to make matters worse, they blast that Premier League anthem as the teams shake hands.

  2. North Stand Tier 2 says:

Finally someone has brought this up – the music is so irritating, and is always far too loud!!

Let’s try and get it stopped as soon as possible. Or at least go back to playing The Stone Roses or other Manchester band.

  3. Duncan says:

    I like it.

  4. Macheda IS GOD says:

I get so frustrated at that, people near me (including myself) chant UNITED but that irritating musi…God ffs

  5. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

I think they should pick a queen song for the start and the end of the match
    start-we are the champions
    end-another one bites the dust

  6. Ulster Red says:

    lol ghtt

  7. mags the red says:

It is nothing to do with the choice of entrance music, there is no atmosphere as no one sings. We have so many songs that we could belt out in full voice as we do in The Blaise. I think the entry music is spot on: Fanfare For Rocky…let the battle commence…how fitting is that???

  8. Androo (United fan from MALTA) says:

And if United play like they did against Leeds it should be the Hello Kitty theme song coming out not that.

  9. united.george says:

“Play some Hawkwind or Marillion” – Neil from the Young Ones.

  10. Bebeto says:

The atmosphere from both fans on Sunday was quite good before kick-off. It’s ridiculous how it had to be put on hold whilst that silly anthem was blasted out. It sounds like it was created with the Sky generation in mind. At least the Champions League anthem has a sense of occasion about it.

Whilst the atmosphere is usually good before kick-off, it’s the rest of the game that we should be more concerned about. It’s only ever good when a) we’re playing a rival, or b) we’re coming from behind.

Even with having lost a lot of those who care about the club, there are still things that could be done to stop the place seeming like a morgue sometimes. Unfortunately, it won’t happen with the current owners of the club, and the suits who preside over the league.

  11. Paedar says:

Totally agree – stop the music and LET THE PEOPLE SING

  12. King Eric says:

Nowt against the Roses “This is the one” belting out but I cringe to be honest when that fanfare plays.

  13. bchilds says:

I don’t like it one bit but it’s not as bad as music being played after a goal, a massive pet hate of mine!

  14. King Eric says:

bchilds – Yeah I hate that too pal.

  15. manchester is red says:

Its terrible….get rid of it !!!!!

  16. Johnny says:

Get rid of the “Take me home, united road..”
    Good God it’s embarrassing

  17. Rhystiano says:

I’m a fan of ‘Take me Home’ but that gladiator shit has gotta go…..

  18. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

I found the music much too loud and annoying, but then again i come from an older generation when all you got before the game was banter between the two sets of supporters. Can’t happen now though. On a slightly different note, I am currently back in the Mother country from Adelaide in South Australia for the christmas Hols and have been lucky to get to the Wolves, Wigan and Leeds game and it was great to be back at Old Trafford for the 1st time since 1987. Things have certainly got very quite in the singing/chanting area since my days of being there in those far off days. I was sitting next to the away support section so was a bit concerned when Leeds came out of the draw but have to say that even though in the 70′s and 80′s thet had a reputation for being thugs that they were well behaved and even though the munich song raised its fair head it was only bye a small minority and didn’t get too far. I fly back to Oz next friday and look forward to watching all the United games on TV, but more so would love to hear singing and chanting from the home crowd, the away supporters always do us proud!

  20. Rob says:

I agree, get rid of it.

Also, whats the crack with playing music from Rocky? ie an underdog coming out on top of the favourite?

  21. RedMist says:

Keep the Roses, but bin the rest of the pomp that gets blasted out.

  22. aig alex is god says:

    Ghtt

Nice Video. Thats a great idea. She knows so many chants already

  23. shebangsthedrums says:

I’d agree about the music if more fans in the ground sang. I used to love going in the Bishop’s Blaize, but the match atmosphere afterwards often dissapointed. It’s upto the club to encourage the fans to sing more rather than pandering to the “sit quietly and wait for a win mob”. As you can tell by the name, I do love the Stone Roses being played though.

  24. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

why do the play she bangs the drums in the dressing room to psych te players and then let them go out to a gladiator type music from rocky
    just play the roses
    or emily

  25. Coogie says:

Listen to the Music and imagine Rocky KO’ing Clubber Lang!! The Music is the Shit

  26. King Eric says:

How can you not like “Take me home United road”?

gotta hate – Evening. Do they play “She bangs the Drums” in the dressing room? I did not know that.

  27. King Eric says:

billabong – Did the Munich songs raise their head? I never heard them. Was pleasantly surprised by the Leeds scum behaviour to be fair.

  28. 20Legend says:

I always preferred it when they came out to simply the best!!

  29. Gotta hate tiny tears says:

    king eric
when rooney is incharge of the ipod

  30. ManUtdPeople says:

    I disgree with this…

The music at the start get your heart thumping.
The fans then get a chance to start singing when its over.

I think it is a good thing and I love how loud it is.

  31. RedMegleeker says:

Its shit, of the highest order.

    yip.

  32. Manchuchu says:

Stop yer bellyaching sheeple. You have the entire game to yell yourself hoarse. A fanfare when the team enters is good for the spirit. It’s hardly a bad tune and personally I get keyed up ready to fight hearing it.

Stopping the music just so others can hear you yakking some slogan is just about as bad as calling in the fun police for people who actually want to hear the fanfare when the team comes in.

Why? Not happy till you get to sing 12 Cantonas 60 times per match?

  33. united.george says:

I would at least play How Soon is Now? by The Smiths….no singing though, just the tune. Anything but gladiator music.

  34. stretford972 says:

the sorry truth is that if the music ain’t there then it’ll just be quiet. What’s the excuse durin the game? There are lots of shit fans at old trafford, the couple who i sit next to every week barely even aides when we score and never heard a song out of em in 4 seasons. The amount of times i get that ‘shit, i’m on my own’ is startin to get me down (tho my mate still finds it funny as fuck). And i’m even ment to be in one of the better stands for atmosphere. The best thing i can think of is that next time u apply/renew tickets is that u state whether u intend to contribute to the atmosphere or not, get them sittin next to each other and near the pitch. This means those who sing won’t get diluted and will be more like away days which are a much better experience for that reason.

  35. north west quad says:

i am torn on this. i get a hard on on champions league evenings when they play that music, but rocky does seem a bit of a shit choice for league games.
Atmospheres at utd are always hit and miss, i think only leeds and city have been buzzing this season. The arsenal game was a bit of a damp squid. But, after xmas things will get rocking as the big games roll in.

if i was in charge of the juke box i’d go for how soon is now. That riff would sound fantastic bouncing from one side of the ground to the other.

  36. Its in my blood says:

    Hmm…some interesting points/views.
Personally, i much prefer the chance to scream/shout than the crappy music drowning the fans out.
The game is becoming ridiculously Americanised. I thank God we haven’t got to the music after a goal is scored yet!
The atmosphere would increase significantly if greater thought was given to the seating arrangements as mentioned by others.
Our beloved Stretford end is being bastardised by the corporate and day tripper “fans”. A large area directly behind the goal is handed over to this prawn sandwich brigade EVERY game.
Virtually NONE of them sing. In fact, they tut-tut you for even mild swearing, let alone some of our traditional chants.
Perhaps those of us that are going to get in touch with the club could also let them know they should re-allocate those corporate seats to fans who want to sing, making the Stretford End our feared 12th man again.

  37. Ashish says:

How can the fans sing and make an atmosphere when there’s always this loud music playing in the background?
    I fucking hate Glazer.

  38. SEF says:

As the teams are in the tunnel, they would play “This is the one” (Its actually a request of Gary Neville to play that when they come into the tunnel area).
Then, as the teams actually come into sight, the music would go off and the fans then create the noise.
You would then have the Chmpions league/Prem league anthems as the teams line up on the half way line.
That would give enough time to create noise, let the players hear the roar of the crowd.
SEF have received a reply from Alan Keegan, who is the voice on the tannoy and he is in favour of this. He has no control over the music, so will pass on the thoughts to them.
SEF have also contacted Utd, who said they will discuss at the next fans forum.

We have City in the semis, Milan in Europe and both Chelsea and Liverpool in the league which are the bigger home games left to play, it definately needs doing for these games.

One thing also needed, is for fans to get in the ground that bit earlier, especially on the European nights.
SEF have large surfer flags to be used, but given that there are not enough fans in the stadium 10 mins before kick off, SEF cannot put these out, which is a shame.

SEF will continue to promote all European Cup home games as Euro Flag nights, encouraging fans to bring their own flags along and create more noise and colour than they normally do.

  39. tunnelboy says:

Would love to go back to the old days when the opposition came out first and we could boo them and then chant “Bring on the champions”!! Aaah, memories!

  40. Joe_mufc says:

i have supported united for years and years and everytime at home i can bearly hear fans sing except the odd game or two we need singing from the fans every game,if you watch united away the fans are brilliant you can hear them sing all night or day,the only reason i can come up with for are disapointing home support is that tourists or familys i dont no fans from outside england come over to see the greatest team play and dont get involved in the atmosphere

  41. mambo jambo says:

I really like it. It gives me the bloody chills every time, and I mean that in an good way!

  42. Rooney22United says:

If we had won in Rome, i would be fine with the Gladiator song, but geez.. reminds me of bad memories…

  43. sumzredarmy says:

we never die should be plaid

  44. Belfast22Red says:

Just wanted to ask the north west quadrant lad wat the atmosphere in that section was like. im siting up dur with a few mates for the villa game but we normally sit in the east lower. Needa really get da atmosphere goin proper again!!
